Groveregg · 20/04/2007 16:40

Thanks Abgirl as always! Hope all is well with everyone and aches and pains subside for the weekend.

Well, builders have now gone and I didn't do the tears thing - but I think my face over the last 2 days has said it all and speed has definitely picked up! In case anyone is thinking of it, I can however report that in my last pg I did burst into tears in front of people a couple of times (not intentionally!) and it was VERY VERY effective indeed!!!

agnesnitt · 20/04/2007 16:51

Groveregg, I had a full on breakdown in a branch of Game while in labour with my daughter and they couldn't have cared less and refused to let me use their loo. Some people are just twunts

Officially now only thirteen weeks to go. Still bored though, and am not impressed that the cleaning bug has bitten. I'm on my fourth load of laundry, the pots have been done twice already today and the airer and I had serious words (no score draw on that score). I fear for the rest of the house

Agnes

lynnec · 20/04/2007 19:28

Groveregg...thats a good one about the tears, we've already played the pg card with our plumber who was trying to do the bathroom in dribs and drabs around his full time job so now hes going to do it all in two weekends well so he says!!He starts tomorrow morning at 8...so we'll see how it goes... Never too late to start the tears rolling

Hope everyone else is well and hope you all get your finishing dates with work sorted.Ive planned to take 4 years out as i did this with ds, had a disagreement with lady in bank today who asked if i'd be returning back to my work when lo is born, i replied no, im taking 4-5 years out to spend with the lo, she replied "oh beleive me you wont last that long, you'll soon get fed up with it" I replied "no, i done the same with my son i wouldnt have any other way"

I hope you all have a lovely weekend x

justbeme · 20/04/2007 19:53

How weird, Im having my bathroom done as well! Its been dragging on for weeks and weeks and now my DP wants to redo the upstairs one!! Ive told him , it will have to be quick as I dont want to be without an upstairs loo near to or after giving birth!

berrysmum · 20/04/2007 21:30

Can I have a moan to all you sympathetic ears about my decorating trauma's? My house is, basically, upside down. Jobs to be done in the next 11 weeks include:
-Decorate our bedroom (wouldn't have bothered but dh took the wallpaper off last year. Don't want new baby's first sleeping place to have bare walls...)
-Decorate the baby's bedroom. Used to be office so needs doing desperately.

  • Repaint dd's room (she is gutted that the new baby is getting a pink room and hers is lemon and lime so have promised....)
  • Arrange a date for new fireplace to be fitted (should be an easy one - just sit and watch)
  • Get shower refitted, as ours just leaked and ruined one wall of tiles and kitchen ceiling - thank god for insurance!
  • Get kitchen ceiling replastered due to the above leak.
I have 11 weeks to go, and am working up to 35 weeks. We both have full time jobs and, to top it all, dh is working in the US for two weeks in May. AAAAGHHHH!!!! Plaesed to get that off my chest. Thanks for listening!
typhoonsmum · 21/04/2007 09:23

DP started decorating our living room in Jan 2006. He got to a difficult bit and left it. He started the bathroom January this year. Got to the bit behind the sink and left it. (Are you beginning to see a pattern)
I am still waiting for him to decorate the Nursery from when I was Pg with DD (5 years ago)He'll have to do it soon. When DD was lttle she liked to pull the wallpaper off the wall. I just covered up the patches with Disney Princess posters. DD has since moved to a bigger room (which DP HAS decorated and spoldge is going into DD old room) As this baby is a boy I don't think he'll appreciate the choice of poster as he gets bigger. I have the wallpaper for the room and it is tiny so it won't take long it is just getting him to do it (and finish it)

typhoonsmum · 21/04/2007 09:26

Sorry living room was started in Jan 2005, DD new bedroom Jan 2006 and bathroom Jan 2007. I will probably have to wait till Jan 2008 b4 he does the nursery. He must start with New Years Resolutions and then get bored!

emmyb · 21/04/2007 16:47

reading all your decorating stories I feel a little better that everyone else is in a mess too. We had a major shower leak in Jan where the ceiling of the living room (newly decorated by professionals) caved in and it wrecked the new laminate floor. Just had works finished by insurance this week. The work is abismal, ceiling is a joke my new beautiful floor they have laid is scratched where they moved furniture on it, they have bashed a great big dent in my hall waal. ITS A JOKE. It was a nightmare to start with because its all down to us having an on suite fitted in Aug that has been done by a cowboy. So weve been let down twice IYKWIM.

Anyway, given the boss my date for leaving 8th June which is 4 weeks before due date. But Im wondering if I will manage that long. I thought it would be easier when the year 11 went on study leave, now being told not going on study leave AARRHHH. My head of dept. is off ill so I am next in line mega amounts of work AARRGGHH.

lo has had hiccupps every day this week and is constantly moving/break dancing. After telling my mum last week that my piles were ok so far they have proved me wrong and I can hardly sit down!! Time for rubber ring and frozen peas!!

Hope everyone is ok not long to go till we see our beautiful bundles!! I cant wait to see his face

auntymandy · 21/04/2007 16:52

hi! 9 weeks to go!!! my dates changed to 23rd june, thought I had said!!
Cant believe it!! 9 weeks. Got nothing!
Just went on line to buy pushcahir as 10% off everything onmothercare..sold out!!!! bum

bilblio · 21/04/2007 17:52

I hate summer!
Anyone else getting hayfever? I'm having a miserable day, sniffling, eyes itching. I've a cupboard full of antihistamines from last year and I can't take them. A trip to the doctors is in order on Monday.
I've also been having the odd dizzy/lightheaded spell and hot flushes the past few days. I'm hoping it's just the heat and tiredness, but think I'd better get it checked anyway.

Feel so sorry for all the people with these decorating/workmen nightmares. So grateful my parents are retired, and a dab hand at DIY, especially as blokey and I aren't. We decorated our bedroom last year, but it's going to be blips room. The room we're moving into is much bigger, and currently has everything piled up against one wall. The bed has been Freecycled, the wardrobe is waiting to be collected, and my Dad is in the progress of building us new wardrobes in his garage.
I've 9 days of at the start of May when we're going to put the wardrobes in, put up shelves, make me a crafty work area, decorate, and arrange the bedroom/nursery.
Then hopefully I can relax knowing we're ready for baby... That's the plan anyway

berrysmum · 21/04/2007 21:19

typhoonsmum and emmyb - so pleased am not on my own on the decor front. Feel a little more chilled out about it today as dh had made a start on some of it when I got home from work.
bilblio - could i please borrow your mum and dad for a couple of months........?!!!

lynnec · 21/04/2007 21:23

So glad its not just my house that looks as if a bomb has hut it, plumber arrived today, fitted new gyproc wall, heated towel rail,shower...now our bloody heating and hot water isnt working had to call a heating engineer, whos coming out tomorrow at 4, god knows what the plumbers done!!! Today i am dieing with a really bad cold, been up all night with sore head and throat and lo done another all nighter, dancing about and kicking etc cant believe this cold has floored me, struggled all day, went to chemist said theres nothing i can take except for paracetmol, takng that 3 times a day along with my face constantly stuck in the facial sauna with half a tub of vic in it.
Anyway...thats my moan over for the weekend (hopefully) see what happens tomorrow, the electrician starts work then. Hope everyone else is having better luck with the home improvements than me.

JennySpringster · 21/04/2007 23:26

Eeek Getting our bathroom started on Monday... They are fitting an en suite in the attic first though so at least we won't be without a bathroom (fingers crossed) completely.

Typhoonsmum Daniel?

Went to an NCT nearly new sale today, and picked up a hippychick hipseat for dd for £9, a cotbed for £12, 6 washable breastpads for £1, and a dress for dd for 50p. Bargain!

abgirl · 22/04/2007 10:25

Hi everyone and hope the weekend decorating is going well. Other than changing the office into a nursery we're not planning any more decorating before baby comes along, and even then it's more a case of furniture removal rather than repainting or anything.

However had an extremely busy/stressful day yesterday as we had a bbq for DS's 2nd birthday - all went very well, food and weather were perfect but getting everything ready was a nightmare and think I would have cancelled it in the morning if my parents hadn't already been in their car on the way up from Somerset! Was really great to see some of our friends and family though and DS had a great time.

Having a bit of peace myself this morning as DH has taken DS to grandad's allotment so catching up on a few jobs with my feet up - bliss - and DS slept through the night for the first time since the clocks went forwards last night so overall feeling v relaxed and chilled today. I think it helps knowing there are only 2 days left for me at work and on Wednesday I start my annual leave followed straight after by maternity leave - can't wait!!

Jenny, Have thought hard about Daniel. It is my surname and as my brother is in no hurry to pro create I can see our surname disappearing with our generation. The only two major problems with Daniel are

  1. Brother in Law's second wife has a son called Daniel to her first marriage (bit long winded I know but DP seems to think it is a genuine argument
  1. For security reasons in hospital the baby will have my surname on the hosital computer. This means he would be Daniel Daniel till he gets admitted to hospital later in his life. DD is still Alexandra Daniel on the computer as she hasn't had to go to hospital since she was born! Though by law she has DP's surname.
Jamantha · 22/04/2007 12:49

Well another week passed, we're all a bit closer to the end - well done all.

On the decorating front, we've got 3 rooms we're hoping to have decorated defore due date: nursery, dining room and "cinema room" (I know, the luxury! Could argue that it's not that important, but DH has been waiting 2 years now for this and we both feel it'll be important to have some "grown up" space to retreat to at times, and obviously going to the cinema won't be so easy in the future). But you'll note I've said "have done" - I normally lead our decorating efforts, but don't feel this is the best time to be facing my fear of heights and trying to climb stepladders, plus want to avoid paint fumes etc. So getting a combination of professional decorators and my Dad in to help - hopefully (fingers crossed, touch wood etc) will all get done in time (though probably only just).

typhoonsmum · 22/04/2007 17:36

Got my paranoid head on.

As I'm due at the end of July and was two weeks late with DD I fear i'll be the last to deliver on this thread.

WILL YOU ALL COME AND CHECK IN ON ME SO I'M NOT LEFT TALKING TO MYSELF!

Can we try to make a pact to continue to check the thread till EVERYONE has had their babies.

pulapula · 22/04/2007 20:21

Wow, abgirl, only 2 more days in work. I thought i was doing well finishing in 5-6 weeks time. I'm jealous!

Typhoonsmum- could you keep Daniel as a middle name? I know you have William already but could you have two? I am thinking of DS having 2 middle names including my maiden name, but not sure i like doing things differently for my DS and DD.

And I am sure people will hang around til all babies are born. I don't expect to have as much free time to post- i remember evenings being a nightmare with DD - not getting her to sleep til nearly midnight. However we hope to get into a good routine early this time! We'll see!...

huskygirl · 22/04/2007 21:52

hi everyone, just thought i'd drop by to say hi. everyone seems busy decorating etc and i havent started anything yet! This pregnancy seems to be flying by.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing swollen ankles etc? My ankles swell towards the end of the day and my calves and ankles tingle. But yesterday i noticed that if i pushed my finger into my calf my fingerprint stayed indented. I had severe and fast onset pre-eclampsia with my last preg so am high risk due to this and several other probs so i'll phone the midwife tomorrow for piece of mind, but i was just wondering if anyone else is having this?

justbeme · 22/04/2007 22:11

Hi - no sorry huskygirl, cant help you on that one.
Where was your NCT sale JennySpringster? I nearly went to one yesterdy in Welwyn Garden City but couldnt get motivated enough. I enjoy a good old boot sale.
My bargains so far have been: a Top and Tail bowl for 10p (you hardly use them anyway)
A Tomy sling for £4, a Baby bath for £1 and a whole set of bumper/cover/nappyholder/lampshade/towel for £1.30!!

JennsterSlugSlayer · 22/04/2007 22:29

Nearly new was in Preston and there is another in Chorley next month.

agnesnitt · 23/04/2007 00:04

Typhoonsmum, I was twelve days over with my daughter and I'm due the 20th of July, I'll hang around with you

Agnes

JennsterSlugSlayer · 23/04/2007 09:46

Typhoonsmum. The ONLY boys name we had agreed on was snifled by sil. Her reasoning was we were unlikely to procreate soon, and when we did we were going to have girls and she DESPERATELY wanted a girl and got 2 boys. Well no. one was a girl so she was lucky. To be honest, if no 2 is a boy I'm going to call him the name anyway. 6 years difference and different surnames anyway. The other name I liked would be an infamous child murderer so that one's out of the question.
