No specific post-natal category so I've added it to the normal ante-natal category ...

@DuRezidal I try over the shoulder first, sometimes she's fine with that, other times it makes her scream, then I try the sat up on the knee, but neither seem to work very often, & I try for a good half an hour, I'm assuming that's long enough but maybe not ? Confused

lydiangel83 · 31/12/2017 01:04

Thanks ladies interesting to hear your routines and that others struggle to settle during the day. I agree baby groups in Jan will help to make routine in our days, I struggle to get Liliana to sleep during the day unless in pram/ sling/ car and even they often don't work for long. I am worried she is not sleeping enough, max 8 hrs spread over several chunks during the night cannot be enough for a 8 wk old! She has massive bags under her eyes (as do her parents!) but I'm not sure what I can do to help!!

Topsyloulou · 31/12/2017 05:31

@lydiangel83 Iris doesn't really sleep in the day. Yesterday she had around 2 hours sleep all day. She'll fall asleep on me, I wait until she's in a deep sleep, 10-20 minutes ish, then transfer her to her pillow thing. I think it's safe to make a drink or go to the toilet & 10 minutes later she's wide awake again. The only way she stays asleep any length of time in the day is on me, in the car or in the pram / sling. Not ideal with DS to look after too & the house to manage. She sleeps brilliantly at night & falls asleep by herself in her crib. She's going from 8.30 through to 4.30 / 5 now which is amazing for 8 weeks. I'm hoping getting a day time routine in place will help with day time naps. If we're at home I might try putting her in her crib for a nap as she's quite happy in there at night. DS loved to nap in the day so Iris not napping has come as a shock.

theotherendofthesockportal · 31/12/2017 08:43

@Topsyloulou you have just described word for word my days with Bea. I end up holding her until she falls asleep, transfer her, think ohhh I will make a brew/ have a wee and come back to her being wide awake. I keep telling myself that on January our groups will give us structure and allocated proper sleep time.

Motherhippy16 · 31/12/2017 11:54

Were all you're babies like this from birth? E fell asleep great last night and only woke at 1 for a feed and then at 5.30. Can get him off to sleep at night but today has been a nightmare. He s slept for an hour since 8am and when he is awake he has night pitched screams. I think he is over tired but nothing I can do will settle him. Have just fed him and he is now asleep on me. Don't really want to call 111 on new years eve but I don't know what to do. He curls up in pain when he's asleep even though he's on infacol and it wakes him up. When he feeds he wriggles as though he's in pain! X

theotherendofthesockportal · 31/12/2017 12:36

@Motherhippy16 have a look this website: www.thesleeplady.co.uk/silent-reflux-tips/ it explains the symptoms of silent reflux, Bea had a very similar symptoms to Ellis. Ours started with screaming in the evenings until it reached a head and she was awake one Saturday for 13 hours screaming. I would say that was the lowest I had ever felt. I got a doctors appointment on the following Monday and we prescribed baby gaviscon, which initially saved us. Has your doctors got an out of hours number? You probably will be able to get an out of hours appointment today with such a tiny baby.

And I'm sending you a big hug, I've been where you are and it's blooming horrible 💐

butterybollocks · 31/12/2017 12:49

Hope you're OK motherhippy Flowers

I do think it's really rare to be able to put newborns down to sleep or successfully transfer them for naps. Some days I try it but end up getting myself stressed and giving up. Had a really rubbish evening yesterday because I'd decided we should be able to put Freddie in a Moses basket to sleep rather than him sleeping on us. Total fail. We just ended up with an overtired screaming baby.

I walked 6 miles yesterday to make sure he slept for a good period of time in the sling.

lydiangel83 · 31/12/2017 14:19

@Topsyloulou what weight is Iris now? I can't imagine Liliana sleeping for that long, would be a dream! Our daytimes sound similar tho!

@butterybollocks you must be mega fit! I need to walk more!

@Motherhippy16 hugs to you it sounds so hard :-/

Topsyloulou · 31/12/2017 20:40

@lydiangel83 she weighed 10lb 9oz at her 6 week check, 2lb 7oz gain from her birth weight. It's only really the last 10 days she's been going longer & longer at night. I haven't done anything differently. Last night it was 5.15 before she woke up for a feed! She'd stirred at 3.45 so I got up & got her milk ready & she stayed asleep whilst I lay awake waiting for her to wake up!

She's had a good sleep today as we went out. 40 minutes each way in the car & then 2 hours in the sling before a feed & another 90 minutes after that. All out in the fresh air so I think that helped. Predictably she then didn't settle when we got home for more than 10 minutes. She finally gave in at 7.30. She's due another feed really before she goes to bed but I'm loathe to wake her.

What's everyone doing tonight? I've got a bit of a cold & with night feeds for I & DS waking up several times a night with his cough at the moment I'm unlikely to be up past 9! I still haven't had an alcoholic drink, haven't really fancied it. The thought of having to get up to do a feed after a few glasses of wine or any form of hangover is putting me off.

lydiangel83 · 31/12/2017 21:41

@Topsyloulou I've had a few drinks over the last few weeks, am a lightweight and only need one glass to feel relaxed/ tipsy! Been to friends and earlier - in bed now with baby just been sick, so hoping to feed her again and go to sleep!!

Zampa · 31/12/2017 21:50

Happy New Year! Hoping to go to bed soon so don't intend to be awake at midnight (although DD2 will no doubt have other ideas!).

Thanks for all your support in 2017.

I think she's going through her 5 week leap at the moment. More tears and a bit more awake time. Hoping for some proper smiles soon.

We're staying up to see in the new year, DD has generally been refusing to go down to sleep until after midnight anyway so might as well. I have crisps and am risking a glass of prosecco. HNY everyone Smile

ValentineFizz · 31/12/2017 23:08

Hi ladies, just wanted to check in and wish you all a Happy New Year when it comes, and here's to watching these November babies grow & thrive next year 😀

In terms of routine, I try to feed, bath & then feed again from 8pm so that DS is down in his moses basket in my room with his monitor by 9pm, he is then sleeping to 2am or 3am - this is also giving DH and l some time together in the evening.... He does nap through the day but erratically, thankfully he can be left awake and babbling to himself for 10 or 20 minutes to let me pee/eat Tec.

Motherhippy - gripe water has been working better for us than infacol, and we did use both together one particularly bad night!

I'm sipping a wine spritzer this evening, figured I have earned it - cheers! 🥂

ValentineFizz · 31/12/2017 23:09

Tec = etc! Bloody autocorrect

Zampa · 01/01/2018 02:47

My 2018 started with someone vomiting down my cleavage! It can only get better, right?!

OP posts:
AccrualIntentions · 01/01/2018 07:27

@Zampa I had that a couple of days ago. Worse is that I wiped the worst of it off then completely forgot, and later on was like "what's that smell and what's this crusty white stuff on my bra...?"

butterybollocks · 01/01/2018 17:24

I also had a recent vom down cleavage, he vommed then fell straight to sleep. Didn't want to risk waking him by finding a clean bra and getting changed so I just went to sleep Blush sleep is my number one priority!

I've managed to put a sleeping baby down for naps twice today. Could just be a fluke but both times I've put him down onto his giant cuddly elephant that we got from ikea yesterday! Not within safe sleep guidelines at all but he's next to me on the sofa so I'm watching over him. He looks very cute.

Happy new year everyone. Hoping for a happy, healthy 2018 for you all Smile

theotherendofthesockportal · 01/01/2018 18:25

I also have been vomited over, just as I left Bea with my mother to attend a NYE party for a few hours, she vomited down my arm. I had to find another last minute outfit, difficult as none of my clothes fit properly anymore.

We bought Bea a second hand swing yesterday, it has magic powers, it makes her sleep! I don't care if I have to spend a fortune on batteries forevermore, I have an actual happy baby.

Topsyloulou · 01/01/2018 20:06

@theotherendofthesockportal I'm considering a swing chair. Iris only really settles in her bouncer if she's constantly bounced until she's in a deep sleep. Would love something that can do it automatically.

Iris managed to vom down the inside of my dress when we were at a party the other day. Luckily most of it went down the inside of my vest. Had to go to the bathroom with the wipes & clean as much off as I could, vest was unsalvagable, bra was soaking but had to leave that on & amazingly dress was ok. It was delightful sitting in crusty smelly clothes all night!

Zampa · 01/01/2018 21:57

Glad that it's not just me in Club Baby Sick!

I'm making a rod for my own back. Sat watching the darts with baby asleep on me. I should be putting her down to sleep but just love cuddling her so much! Must start a routine in 2018.

Happy new year lovely ladies and to all your families and little ones I hope 2018 brings health and happiness 😊
We had a night in eating up leftover Christmas food like cheese, crackers, ham etc and our friends (don’t have kids) who live next door came over. We usually have quite late evenings with them and they were still here at 2am and me and DH kept looking at each other thinking “we need to go to bed now!” Because Matilda usually wakes up at 4-4.30, but miraculously she slept until 6am!!
I am so dreading DH going back to work tomorrow :( it’s so nice having him home and us both looking after Tildy together and just doing bits around the house, going out for walks and food. Anyone else’s partners going back to work tomorrow? It’s rubbish.

Hazandduck · 01/01/2018 22:08

@Zampa ditto! I bloody love the feeling of her head tucked under my chin and just kissing her sweet little head all over! Doing it right now lol x

Hazandduck · 01/01/2018 22:12

Oh and ladies another question - is anyone else insanely broody?? I already keep thinking about when we will have another baby!

Zampa · 02/01/2018 08:52

@hazanduck I'm very keen to have another baby but know that it wouldn't be a sensible decision. Having to deal with that reality right now and it's horrible!

My coccyx is broken so no more babies until I can sit down and not be in pain! Not got a sick baby but Liliana can't sleep because her wind is so bad, was so sad yesterday and couldn't sleep all night - I think last 2 nights have been our worst to date: I'm so tired I can barely see properly!
