Thanks Nutty!

GOOD LUCK EDDAS!! Sending you loads of ´short and easy´ labour vibes

Weeonion - that sounds like plenty!! Certainly more than I´ve got, I think I have 15 various shaped nappies and hoping to use muslins and terries when needed until I decide which nappies I like and want to buy more of. Also to see what size he is as if I can struggle through the first few weeks with that lot AND I like the wambamboos.. I think I´ll just go straight in the size 2s of those asap. Feels like bloody ages since I was looking into nappies now!

maveta · 11/04/2007 18:06

Emmymummy - I don´t know, I really don´t get the impression that she´s very experienced. She had a bit of a prod but didn´t really seem to know what she was doing. And she´s never touched my belly before except to measure it or put the doppler on, she only did today because I asked her oh well, only one more appt with her, in 2 weeks, and then I get chucked over to the hospital for them to keep an eye on me.

I read the other day that the ice craving was related to needing more iron.. what do you reckon? Are you on iron tablets.. Ellie what about you? Just being nosey, thought it was interesting..

Emmymummy · 11/04/2007 18:20

Maveta - does she feel your tummy to ascertain which way up the baby is & how he's laying? That's the bit I always find fascinating..
Have had 2 blood tests over the last couple of months and my iron levels have been fine, in fact pretty high, so unless they've gone downhill I don't imagine that's the reason for all the ice. I just love the stuff! I love it when it's straight out of the freezer and your tongue sticks to it, I love sucking a cube until it disolves, and I love crunching it! Sounds perverse doesn't it?

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 11/04/2007 18:27

WO, pmsl at "have we been on mn so long that we haven't noticed we are in labour!"

Could be!

maveta · 11/04/2007 18:30

Emmymummy - um.. yes it does slightly!! I did give the old ice thing a go a wee while ago when I´d run out of ice lollies but it was a very lacklustre experience for me, couldn´t find the enthusiasm I´m afraid..

Well she kind of put her hands in a V shape at the bottom of my tummy with the point of the V being just above my knicker line, pushed down a bit and then said ´hmm yes he seems to be in the right position´

Eddas · 11/04/2007 18:32

Just started this thread.

Any thoughts gratefully recived, sure i'm worried for nothing but you never know

Emmymummy · 11/04/2007 18:33

LOL Maveta, I just hope my strange perversion disappears once this baby is born. Along with my swollen feet & ankles!

Your MW sounds greeaaaat! Very convincing!

must go and throw Em in the bath...catch up later.

weeonion · 11/04/2007 18:34

ok gmm. i have tried the pavlova thing. what the hell went wrong - it looked so promising for a while. then my peaking egg whites went floppy and no matter how hard i beat them - they didnt come back to former glory. i have consequently poured a sloppy sugary mess into a baking tray and shoved it in the oven. i dont see me being able to have strawberries and cream on the top of this thing.

will they let me bring the baby home from hospital if i have failed this domestic goddess test?? am i now officially unfit??

claricebean · 11/04/2007 18:47

congrats to twinkle and whywhywhy. still nothing doing here. am a week over. i had a scan this morning and all looks fine. now i'll have monitoring every other day until they induce in a weeks' time. unless i start myself of course. have been getting lots of contraction type pain, for days, but constant rather than in waves. perhaps something is happening (slowly).

geordiemacminx · 11/04/2007 18:48

It might be ok... have some faith - oh and dont look at it... these pavlova things are very nervy and shy - they dont like being watched...

If it has gone tits up then possibly grease in the bowl or something.... it is a bit hit and miss sometimes but you'll get there... oh and the egg yolks... poach them - they are fantastic on toast!!!!

maveta · 11/04/2007 18:57

weeonion - quick question regarding your fitness as a mother...

´do you plan to use your pavlova technique as a template for how to raise a child? i.e will you be planning to put them into the oven whether peaky or floppy at any stage?´

If the answer to the above is yes, I feel you may be an unfit mother. If no, you´ll be just dandy

maveta · 11/04/2007 19:00

Opinions please girls (very VERY important) link

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 11/04/2007 19:29

Hi chaps.

Lots of posts today and lots of lovely baby news.

Have been reading as much as I can but have had no time to post properly and now can't remember much.

So, wishing Birdie and Eddas good luck for tomorrow.

MIAMT, hope your dodgy tum clears up soon.

CB, hope things get going for you soon, likewise Lesley - sounds like things may be kicking off for you too.

And lots of hugs to the rest of you mad bunch!

Had a good day with B today but am exhausted to the point of feeling quite awful. V pissed off with dh. I called him at 5.15 to see what time he would be home. Said he was just leaving. Got home at 6.30. I told him how awful I felt - headache, lightheaded, loads of knuf pain, back ache blah blah. He then buggers off out to B&Q. I am left trying to sort dinner for tonight, whilst trying to placate a tired child and left to run the bath. He strolls back in at 7.15. FFS!
He then says, maybe you have been overdoing things- go and sit down!

I am so utterly disappointed by the lack of care/thought he has shown me during this pregnancy.

I am really sorry for the rant, but I am so angry, I could burst.

geordiemacminx · 11/04/2007 19:30

personally I would go for about a boy, love actually or some other trashy brit flick... but hey I am completely uncultured.... WO would be able to suggest!!!

maveta · 11/04/2007 19:31

oh sospl..sendng you a big hug! have you told him how you feel? Hope he makes it up to you with some cuddles, care and attention x x x

maveta · 11/04/2007 19:32

GMM - yeah but these are all I have available to me! (don´t live near a video shop, no car to get me near to one and nothing on tv, these are borrowed from Mum)

geordiemacminx · 11/04/2007 19:40

in that case I would stay and play on mumsnet, do a bit of online shopping and eat nice things... Im just off to get chinese!!!

maveta · 11/04/2007 19:42

LOL GMM - only if things pick up.. it´s so QUIET on here tonight!! mmmm..chinese sounds lovely. I had rice salad for dinner. Leftovers from lunch. Was nice but the same meal twice in the same day...siiiigh

geordiemacminx · 11/04/2007 19:43

well I'm going for food but I'll be back as liverpool match is on tv so I've got to be quiet.....

zazas · 11/04/2007 19:46

Wow congratulations WWW - that was after a sweep wasn't it? They won't do mine until next Tuesday when I am 7 days overdue - I want one now!

Maveta and weeonion - I have a selection of real nappies but are incline to wait until I know what works best before I buy the remainder that I need - going only on what looks cute is probably not the best way to make my decision!

Thinking of you Claricebean - it is hard going overdue when your previous haven't been isn't it? I think you said you expected it out by now as DH as to go back to England? I know what you mean, we had made arrangements for the expected arrival last week - all gone to pot now

Finally made it to the supermarket this afternoon - only saw 4 Mothers who asked 'oh you haven't had it?' Trying to keep a low profile in our small town!

weeonion · 11/04/2007 20:01

gmm - me cultured - pmsl.......

sopl - hugs to you as well. get b off to bed and then you go and pamper yourself. leave him to it but make sure he doe the dishes, cleans up, empties washing machine, sorts the ironing and gets stuff ready for you 2morro... i could on with his list of chores.

i loved the idea someone posted earlier of a hoarde of us pissed off preg women travelling en masse as a hit squad to wreck havoc on inconsiderate dp/dh. that would teach them!

zazas - i know what you mean abotu waiting and seeing what nappies suit but i think i hit paranoid buttons that this baby would be pooing for ireland straight off and i wouldnt have enough to see us through. Plus i am a sucker for soem of them.

i was gonna do an average of how long labours have been on this thread and see what we are coming in with. decided to check on teh pavlova instead. i think i did indeed frighten it - it is now a flattened out white blob on the bottom of the tray. ah well - will make dp eat it anyhow. we ahve had spicey food for the 5th night in the row. dp asked if we coudl have something blander 2morro as his stomach is a bit tender. bland budges no babies matey so - hot hot hot chilli again 2morro.........

WestCountryLass · 11/04/2007 20:17

Congratulations to all the new Mummys, we seem to be blessed with speedy labours in this forum

I am sorry I am not keeping up to speed now my baby has arrived. My feet do not touch the ground once my other two get up and by the time they are in bed I am knackered to be quite frank and end up falling asleep in bed most nights.

Little Leo is a little gem, he is really sweet and quite a quiet cuddly little chap, he is lush! In 2.5 weeks he has gone from 7.4 to 8.7 so breastfeeding is going well. The kids are really good with him, I can leave him on the bed with my DS and have a shower and the like whilst DS sings him songs. DD is protective of him, a bit rough in a nearly 3 year old kind of way but very loving and not at all jealous.

Oh happy days!

Emmymummy · 11/04/2007 20:19

WCL - little Leo sounds like a gorgeous little dream! So glad it's all going so well for you X

Katy44 · 11/04/2007 20:21

weeonion - loved the idea of MN being used as a form of pain relief for initial labour!
Good luck to Eddas and Birdiebump for tomorrow xx
