Forgot to ask... is anyone been taking paracetamol? I'm reading conflicting thi t's so not sure if it's safe to take?

@Maybebaby2 I've got a really bad cold and no I haven't. I know they say it's safe but I've chosen against it. Doctor gave me some antibiotics but asked me to wait a few days before starting them incase I feel better and don't need to take them

@Maybebaby2 I had that horrible cold a couple of weeks ago, sounds exactly the same! My midwife has said it's fine to take paracetamol, I took it when I got a bit shivery with fever but it doesn't do much for pain relief for me so only took it when I really needed to. Only cure is lots of rest and fluids and try to keep eating a bit even if you don't feel like it. Hope you feel better soon!

@Maybebaby2 also ginger tea with lemon and honey should help soothe your throat a bit if you're not having it already. Try not worry too much about the pains when you cough or sneeze either - I've had hayfever for a while on and off and every time I sneeze I get a shooting pain, have spoken to friends and they've said they had the same thing

Thanks Victoria and klaw87 I'm trying to rest as much as possible and I think I'll take one paracetamol just to help bring my temp down a bit. I think the shooting pain is definitely a pulled muscle or ligaments so I'm not too worried, its just painful, and I'm sneezing and coughing a lot. It's worse if I lay back so I'm having to sit upright! Glad you're feeling better klaw and hope you feel better soon too Victoria x

@Maybebaby2 you could try Manuka honey in hot water - that might work?

12 week scan finally tomorrow! Will be 12+3, so excited but nervous aswell!!

@Maybebaby2 is has antibacterial properties so might help! I sort of tastes slightly medicinal too!

@Maybebaby2 I had a terrible cold at about 7-8 weeks. Obviously didn't take cold remedy, but found that hot honey and lemon helped my throat, and steaming my head by putting some Vicks Vapour Rub in hot boiling water helped my nose. I sat under a towel for hours.

I did take paracetamol in the end, and I have since as I've had a couple of bad headaches. MW and pharmacist both said it was fine.

Drinks lots of water and get plenty of rest. It was my far the worst experience of a cold I've ever had, but it will be better soon! Sending hugs xx

Is anyone getting judged already! I have a difficult relationship with my brother. Went to see my brother and immediately had the will you be staying at home or working part time when you have the baby? I didn't mention that I may have to go back full time as a) I've only just started this role so no SMP or company sick pay, b) I'm the main earner c) I would need to go back FT as we want to buy a bigger house (we live in the tiniest two bed box house where the main bedroom is so small we will just about be able to squeeze a Moses basket next to the bed) and d) if I went PT (if they could fill the vacancy) I know that I would end up working the same hours but squashed into 3 days (and I don't get paid overtime) but would get 3/5ths of the salary!

My brother has never worked (and his partner does not work either just to explain the context) and was genuinely thought pregnant women who work got a years full pay when they go on maternity! He was shocked when I told him that I would be getting £139 per week maternity allowance!

I bit my tongue and said I haven't thought about that yet as it's too early as he has already told me previously that mothers who work outside the home with pre-school children damage their children and are selfish and women who have a baby over 30 (like me) are selfish and the baby will have abnormalities!

Rant over - I'm taking a deep breath!

Thanks meg I swear by Vicks always have it's amazing stuff. I rub it on my back and chest and even feet (was told once that was good for colds!) I'll do the steam thing tomorrow as I've not done that yet but have in the past and it does work wonders.

Honey and lemon is helping and I think I'm going to try the Manuka honey tomorrow, thanks for the suggestion ndo

username your brother sound like a piece of work! Awful that he said those things to you! You did better than I would of at biting your tounge, I'd of told him to mind his own business and keep his opinions to himself! Unfortunately there are negative people in the world and sometimes they happen to be close family so it's not so easy to tell them where to go

User Just put him in his place now 'there's no right or wrong way to raise a child, every family makes the right decisions FOR THEM and it's no one else's business' I've also just started a new job and will probably be back FT to afford things. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Also, I like work! Pre children I thought I'd love to be a SAHP, now not a chance!!

And paracetamol is fine!

Temp has gone up to 100.2 thismorning so I will be taking paracetamol to bring it down.

Just went to get paracetamol and the pack of ibrobrufin was on the table which means that's what dh gave me last night instead of a paracetamol! Not too worried but I know it is dangerous after 30 weeks so have had a chat with dh about checking. I'll just make sure I get it myself in future. He was trying to be helpful though bless him!

Just catching up on the thread. School holidays taking it out of me. I don't understand how an almost 7 year old has ENDLESS endless (!!!!!) energy. I'm getting scared about the baby years again. I quite like the routine I have now (during term time) and whilst I absolutely love DS to the ends of the earth I can't keep up with him! He exhausts me. Have been arranging loads of play dates for the week so he has friends to entertain him #lazymum

Those of you with toddler DC and baby on the way, I salute you!!

@Disinterested definitely not round ligament pain. Was a full on contraction/cramp lasting about 30 seconds each time. So scary! But haven't had anything since that night.

@NovaArt3mis My hospital did the results on the same day with some funny algorithm they use right in front of you. But every hospital/trust is different. Does it give any indication on your dating scan letter?

@PolkaDotFlamingo Was this for your 16 week check up? It's so hit and miss! I was offered a heartbeat check with DS but I know not every MW does. Don't know if I'll be given the same opportunity this time around.

@Maybebaby2 I had a HORRENDOUS flu around Week 6. I had a fever, achy everywhere, slept for days, sweating, it was shit. But your baby is so well protected in the womb it will take a lot to dislodge or serious upset him/her. I took paracetamol every 4 hours to keep my fever down (didn't work), DH went to the pharmacy for lemsip but they said NO WAY because I'm pregnant. Anything that contains decongestant is a no-no 🚫 but paracetamol is absolutely fine!

@Usernamegone Omg your brother!! None of his bloody business. Maybe just reduce contact with him for a while... he obviously had no idea about real life and the shear amount of money it takes to run a household in modern Britain. I'll be going back to work, I don't have a choice or we won't be able to afford our mortgage, bills, holidays, food, clothes.. I could go on! And he also doesn't understand the pressure that comes with being the higher earner. Without your wage I suspect you'd be in a bit of a pickle!
DS goes to a private school which I'm thankful for but that's only because ExP pays the fees. Almost all of the women don't work and on the rare occasions I catch up with the school mums they judge me for working

Thanks for the replies all. Hopefully I'll be less of a ball of anxiety if I don't hear anything by the end of the week. I've managed to convince myself that my ultrasound shows no nasal bone and has too much fluid in the spine you know, 'cause I definitely trained as a sonographer for years.... at myself!

Scan went amazing!! Baby was wiggling about, even had there hand in the mouth!😂 would anyone like to take a guess at my babas gender?

I'm measuring 3 days ahead, so that puts me at 12+6 with a new due date of 23rd January! 😍

Having a very hormonal day today first an argument with my dh head teacher then one with the new girl in the office.

It comes in threes so let's see who's next lol xxx
