Congratulations @beanturnipandspud !😁🎉

crazyzooo · 08/06/2017 04:39

Congratulations @bean! @dream amazing amount to fit in a day!!

So question. Why do the nails on their fingers grow so much faster than their toe nails...? As I was clipping baby crazy's finger nails for the umtied time last night I panicked realising I had never done his toe nails. By the time I had managed to get his baby grow off I had convinced myself I would find a mess of bloodied, ingrowing nails... But nope, there're not even long.. Hmm

crazyzooo · 08/06/2017 04:40

Argh - They're!!

BouncingBlueberry · 08/06/2017 07:11

Congratulations @beanturnipandspud lovely need to have another safe arrival.
Question for those who have had a c section and are now blessed with wearing TEDS/surgical stockings. What's the advice you've been regarding them I,e when can you stop wearing them, how long can you have them off for each day etc. Two weeks in and I'm sick of them.

1004Rise · 08/06/2017 07:37

@dreamofhungarianlanterns boob pillow is amazing that's so sweet!!

@beanturnipandspud Congratulations! Welcome to the world spud!

@BouncingBlueberry I was allowed to take my beautiful stockings off once I'd stopped the fragmin injections, I think that was day 10.

@crazyzooo I think it's just that toenails take longer to grow generally for us as well as babies 🤔

Went for a walk with the pram on my own for the first time yesterday, felt a bit weird being in sole control!! Chose my route based on how high the kerbs were 😯

Another good sleeping night last night, 11 - 3 ish, 20 minute feed then back to sleep til 6.30.... waiting for it to break again (at least I'll have stocked up a bit)

HV today, for some unknown reason I agreed to a 9.30 appointment 😱😖

teainbed · 08/06/2017 07:38

Congratulations @beanturnipandspud !

mightymouse76 · 08/06/2017 09:13

Congrats @beanturnipandspud !!
@BouncingBlueberry I was told 40 days, however in the last week I have been taking them off when I go out walking as their job is to send the blood efficiently back out the legs when immobile- I figure when mobile the walking action is superior anyway. As my science obsessed dad has told me, we have an area in our feet, a blood 'bladder' for want of a better description, and the act of walking pumps this bladder to aid the blood flow back up the legs.

I put mine back on if I'm not going out the house at the mo, but I guess as i'm a bit older I maybe higher risk?

MrsJW15 · 08/06/2017 10:36

@BouncingBlueberry no one really said so I took them off after about 5 days when my feet went down! I did fragmin for 10 days. And the community midwives haven't mentioned it so I assumed that was ok.

1004Rise · 08/06/2017 10:54

@MrsJW15 @mightymouse76 @BouncingBlueberry I'm loving the randomness of the advice on the stockings! 40 days seems extreme @mightymouse76 I hope you got more than one pair if they expect you to wear them for that long.

HV been Baby Rise has put on a lb in a week, she's now 10lb 11 I'm going to have biceps like a body builder!!

Today feels like a right of passage I've been peed on and pood on, I was even in my normal jeans for about 5 minutes til she was sick on them so I didn't really have a chance to celebrate.... definitely running out of clothes today.... may be a pj afternoon!!

mightymouse76 · 08/06/2017 11:30

@1004Rise maybe they gave me a day for each year I've been alive Grin
Only one pair but they're so synthetic they dry in about 5 mins!
Unlike the sleepyhead...

All you fellow sleepyhead addicts- what do you do when they repeatedly pee and puke on it? Are you washing the mattress pad, and if so, how? I've hand washed it twice now as he wet it through (again yesterday) but it takes an age to dry, so baby is either on me on in the sling whilst that happens!
Sodding manufactures don't sell the mattress pads here and the shipping from Sweden is almost as much as the pad itself...c'mon John Lewis, help a sister out!!

mightymouse76 · 08/06/2017 11:33

@Badgerbird I'm glad the ikea debacle has had some value!! My sister said we'll look back and laugh one day- I'm thinking some time around his 30th birthday?? Wink

Sonnet18 · 08/06/2017 11:50

Thanks for the advice about the silent reflux- he is still very noisy and squirmy at night despite being elevated and using infacol. Hv coming on Monday so will ask her for some advice. 5 hours sleep with a newborn and toddler is starting to get to me...but it's not forever- just have to keep telling myself this!

Congrats new mums! We must surely all be done with pregnancy now?

Rabbitykins55 · 08/06/2017 12:18

@mightymouse76 I washed mine for the first time yesterday. I took the mattress in the shower with me to save separate hand washing then I put it in the machine to spin but the thin cover got caught in the door and ripped. I'd put it in again but I'd put it in a pillow case to protect it. It dried pretty quickly.

mrspage1985 · 08/06/2017 13:52

Not quite Sonnet think there is 2 or 3 of us left! Induction for me tomorrow - praying for an ok induction and not too long of a stay in hospital away from home. Glad pregnancy coming to an end - my body temperature is so high lately I can't do anything or go anywhere without breaking into a sweat. Also sick to death of the 'any signs' messages!

teainbed · 08/06/2017 14:52

Good luck @mrspage1985 at least you know the end is very near! Are you having any BH or contractions?

mrspage1985 · 08/06/2017 14:57

Thanks tea, nope not a thing!!
Had sweep on Monday and was posterior, soft 2cm long cervix and around 1cm dialated. Hoping I'm a bit more ready down there for things tomorrow! But essentially I just want him out now! X

jennymac31 · 08/06/2017 16:05

Afternoon ladies

Baby group yesterday was quite good but it was a shame to find out that further cuts had been made to the local centres with more expected next year. Planning on going back next week and have signed up for baby massage class for September.

Managed to go to 'baby pictures' with nate and dh at the local cinema de lux to watch the latest pirates of the Caribbean movie. Dh hoped we would have the cinema to ourselves and was surprised to see quite a few mums with babies in tow. Hoping to watch wonder woman there in a couple of weeks but dh is gutted as he'll be back at work then and doesn't know when he'll be able to watch the movie in the cinema.

Have been impressed that I've managed to leave the house these last couple of days as nate has had difficulties getting to sleep at night time (mixture of blocked nose and possible wind). Dh has been very helpful with taking it in turns to look after nate during the night to let the other one sleep but not sure if this will continue when he goes back to work next week. Nate is currently asleep on my arm, as whenever I try to move him he just screams blue murder. Hoping this doesn't continue for the rest of the day.

Badgerbird · 08/06/2017 18:36

Welcome Babyspud!! Congratulations bean. Now your family is complete Smile

Rooting for you mrspage. Good luck fur tomorrow, exciting that you'll get to meet your little one very soon.

dream I love that baby uses your empty boob as a pillow. Genius! Can't wait to be able to feed laying down :)

Ok so we are loving our Sleepyhead!! Obvs the spare covers are expensive, even on eBay. Pillowcases don't fit as too tight.... what else can we use to protect cover to prevent what mighty talks about? I've put a muslin under cover/on top of mattress iyswim to try to protect foam bit.

BouncingBlueberry · 08/06/2017 18:37

So jealous of you ladies who have taken the dreaded stockings off. I had a week of Fragmin to inject when I got home and I'm supposed to wear these for 6 weeks post birth. I cannot cope with four more weeks of them. I've got two pairs so I wear a pair and the others are in the wash. My poor shins are getting so dry.

ClaireSunflower · 08/06/2017 18:39

I was really bad and took the stockings off after a day! My feet were huge and swollen and the stockings made them worse. I felt like my circulation was cut off so I just took them off. I had 9 days of clexane injections and kept an eye out for any signs of dvt

MrsJW15 · 08/06/2017 19:52

@mightymouse76 at the moment we are layering the sleepyhead with washable nappies, a sheet and sometimes a giant muslin cloth to protect it. @Badgerbird Putting something under the cover sounds good - maybe the washable nappy should go there.

Planning to get a new cover - not sure I knew you could get a mattress pad too.

When we did wash it @Rabbitykins55 we put it in a net laundry bag thing.

Baby cinema sounds fun @jennymac31!

Sonnet18 · 08/06/2017 20:38

mrspage good luck for tomorrow. I am sure it will all go well! Oh the "any signs" messages drove me mad...as if I would have a baby and then neglect to tell everyone! Once I hit 7 days overdue I stopped replying to any messages! I figured I had waited this long, others could wait a little longer too!

teainbed · 08/06/2017 20:41

I thought you weren't supposed to do that as it affected the breathability of the Sleepyhead?

MrsJW15 · 08/06/2017 21:09

Which bit @teainbed?

Looks like by the time you buy a new cover and mattress pad you almost might as well buy a second sleepyhead!

Rockyroad17 · 08/06/2017 21:35

Not sure if this would work for a sleepyhead or if it would impact breathability as @tea mentioned, but you could try pampers disposable changing mat under the cover? I use one over the mattress in the moses.
