I loved gas and air And could choose to have it either as a mask over nose and mouth or a mouth piece that you bite on and suck which is what I did, liked having something to bite down on!
I hated pethidine though, didnt agree with me at all but last time managed to get by on just gas and air so hoping to do the same this time.

And agree that its the mw you'll need to tell you whats happening, dp just needs to be moral support and maybe your voice to the mws to make sure they follow your birth plan as much as they can.
I know it sounds silly but with dd i really did need someone to remind to breathe as i was panting through contractions and then foretting to stop panting once they finished and ended up hyperventilating!

Runnyhabit - Thank you thats really kind of you but hopefully if i get to see physio soon (and friend at playschool told me she got to see someone within a wk when pg) then they will giv me one which will save you the cost of posting it. LOL at the thought of you posting crutches!

Pesha · 14/03/2007 13:02

Have to say i found woozy helped!! Well g&a woozy helped alot, pethidine woozy was too much for me and i felt really out of control but everyone reacts differently to it all so its one of those things I think you just have to see how it goes, and how desperate for pain relief you are
Dont have the option of a birth pool here (floors not strong enough apparently!) but both times ive had a bath at home before going into hospital and it does really help so would imagine if you can get a birth pool it'd be great.

Pesha · 14/03/2007 13:10

Sorry just read that back and hope it doesnt sound at all dismissive of your worries, its not meant to be. I remember how worried i was first time and im not exactly totally chilled this time. Whenever i try to talk to dp about birth he says I dont know what you're worried about you've done it twice before. Yeah once nearly 4 years ago and once 3 years before that, its not exactly a regular occurence in my life. If you'd only ever driven a car twice, years ago you wouldnt be applying for your test would you, you'd still be bricking it at thought of doing it again!!

maveta · 14/03/2007 14:01

Morning everyone..though really afternoon now I guess. Just had a big ham and cheese baguette and feel soooo sleepy..carb overload! Work has been busy again this morning, only 3 hours to go...

SOSPL - cat seems okay this morning, was eating fine and not making the gagging action and no more blood. Very mysterious. quite glad we didn't rush off to the vet in the end although of course if he was worse this morning I would have felt awful.

Just went to see the manager of a hotel we work with a lot and he has offered dh and I a night in one of their hotels on the other side of the island, this saturday! What a lovely surprise, I can't wait.. he told me to take my swimsuit but not sure it will actually fit and don't QUITE feel brave enough to put my bikini on

Got to get back to work. Octopussy LOL at your pastry-bump..

Sorry to post and run.. will check in properly later x

octopussyintummy · 14/03/2007 16:09

Quick hello

Have managed to cut out parrot shapes ready for sewing and the fish fingers are in the oven!

Can't remember anything have read!

Any news from dooby?

mammyjo · 14/03/2007 16:33

Hi all. Feeling in a better mood today thank goodness. Just had one of those days yesterday where everything I touched seemed to fall or break (you know what I mean). Definitely helped by having 5 hours of unbroken sleep - bliss.

I loved gas and air personally. Made my teeth go numb, bit like alcohol does! I found it really good and it gives you something else to concentrate on as you breathe rather than the pain itself. I was given pethidine in early labour which I didnt like that much but it did help me get a bit of sleep so not all bad but I think I will avoid it this time unless I really feel the need! Also had epidural for ventouse delivery in the end and can highly recommend that too! Went from hot, bothered and uncomfortable to sat up in bed chatting in a very short space of time!! Wouldnt opt to have epidural again unless necessary but in terms of pain relief it was wonderful.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 14/03/2007 16:54

Hi all, hope everyone is ok.

Octo, lol at the maple and pecan pastry stuck to your bump!

Maveta, glad your cat is seemingly better - a mystery indeed.

I have had a text from 1b3 to say she has been admitted to hospital - not to have the dt's, but she has to have her leg scanned as there is a possibility she has DVT. She will be in overnight and will be scanned tomorrow. Thought I would let you all know. She said she will text again tomorrow with an update.

Dooby and WO, hope you are both ok.

I am knackered again and the rib pain is back with a vengeance. Cannot get comfortable whatever I do.

Dh has said he will be home soon - I'll believe it when I see it!

runnyhabbit · 14/03/2007 17:18

sospl - hope 1b3 is ok x

Just to let you know, I've had a 20% off voucher e-mailed to me from the Early Learning Centre, and it says that I can forward it on. So I've sent to everyone on the list that ellie sent around. Can be used online, phone or in store. Apologies in advance if no-one wanted it. I love a bargain, and love being able to share it

runnyhabbit · 14/03/2007 17:20

does anyone know if glitterkitty has changed her name? She's my text buddy and she hasn't been on here in a while?

Katy44 · 14/03/2007 17:29

Hi everyone,
very quick post as off to make a salad.
SOSPL, please let 1b3 know we're thinking about her, thanks for updating us.
runny - thanks for the voucher! I welcome any excuse to order stuff online!
Am really starting to get sick of work. I can't get comfortable any more, even though my boss knows I've only got a few days left he still asks me to do more and more stuff, and the work just doesn't seem important compared to my baby!! In some ways it's lovely, I can be stressed, but then he'll kick and it's like he's telling me there's not long to go! I then normally spend the next half hour grinning and prodding my bump! (or trying to clean my dinner off it, but that's another story)
What's all this about knitting parrots?

Katy44 · 14/03/2007 17:32

runny - I've had a look and the last thread I can see her on was the 28th of Feb Don't remember anything about a name change.

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 14/03/2007 17:37

Runny, thanks for the voucher - v handy as I have loads of bday presents to buy!

1b3 texted again - it is her birthday tomorrow of all days as well!

Katy44 · 14/03/2007 17:39

Wow - we're being inundated with vouchers!
I feel a virtual shopping spree coming on!
Sorry if I should know this, but Yvonne, who are you?

AngeG · 14/03/2007 17:43

Katy think it's Yvie!

Katy44 · 14/03/2007 17:46

That would make sense!

AngeG · 14/03/2007 17:49

Thanks for the update on 1becomes3 SOSPL - Please send her my love when you next text her. What a shame being in hospital on her birthday.

Thanks for the vouchers

Mammyjo - glad you're feeling a bit brighter.

Octo -PMSL at food on the bump.

Maveta - glad cat is better today.

Tried to put up blackout blind in Jake's room today...he has been getting up at 6:30 and never used to do that. Managed to overbalance the stool whilst doing it so ended up ringing my brother to come round and finish it for me. It really annoys me that I couldn't do it myself. Didn't really hurt myself, but twisted my pelvis so now my SPD which has generally been better is really painful teach me for trying to be independent.

EllieK · 14/03/2007 18:41

where are you all?
i have to go to the Beyton Village Association AGM tonight, exciting stuff eh?!
little bro is coming over to sit for matthew, now i just have to attempt getting him in bed before go, otherwise they'll hype each other up and he'll never go to bed

EllieK · 14/03/2007 18:42

in case you're feeling nosey, where i live

EllieK · 14/03/2007 18:47

AngeG · 14/03/2007 18:53

Fantastic joke Ellie PMSL.

Have a good time at the AGM tonight

EllieK · 14/03/2007 18:58

i can't wait
only good thing is that my back is killing me, so i have a good reason to come home rather than stay for the cheese and wine after!
not that i can have either of them anyway

Sexonslightlypuffylegs · 14/03/2007 21:02

Where is everyone???????

Katy44 · 14/03/2007 21:05

I'm lurking - reading in the middle of making sandwiches.

CaptainDippy · 14/03/2007 21:07

I'm here!!

CaptainDippy · 14/03/2007 21:09

Yes, I am back to civilisation! We got back in one piece about 10pm last night - hurrah - journey back was ok - apart from being stopped at the airport and told I'd have to get a drs letter to be able to fly - eeeeek!! So I flew out without one and now you're telling me I suddenly need one - I thought I had read all the literature re: flying while PG; but obviously not Anyway, called my v.lovely dr and he faxed one through straight away and we were off ...... DD's were soooo good on the way home, bless them and even though our flights and trains were all delayed we got back in a relatively non-stressful manner - Thank you Lord!

Back to "normal" now -

Mmmmmm.....

Few bits and bobs to do here; but am lurking ....
