I like my room cooler so have the windows on vent - baby is sleeping in vest and babygrow and swaddled in a knitted blanket. It's quite a holey design and swaddles well.
Nails cut short and hands are free, so not in the folded over sections of babygrow. And he sleeps in his Moses basket too. (Most of the time!)

1004Rise · 13/05/2017 17:52

I have a baby!! 😱😁😁

Baby girl born at 12.47 today, 8lb 6oz, went for a caesarean in the end after much deliberation which I'll tell you about later.

She's had one massive feed and is currently fast asleep.

We're completely in love it's all totally worth it! 💞💕💝

I need to do some major thread catch up but hope you're all well xx

EsmesBees · 13/05/2017 17:53

You are not the only one who doesn't feel ready badger! DH finally put the crib up today, but it's still in the spare room. More furniture moving needed to fit it next to to bed.

As for sleeping, we'll be going straight into GroSnugs/bags this time. With a long sleeve vest probably.

EsmesBees · 13/05/2017 17:54

Oh congratulations rise! Not that big a baby after all then. Glad all went well and she's feeding well already.

BouncingBlueberry · 13/05/2017 17:55

Congratulations Rise! Lovely Saturday afternoon news xx

CoxsOrangePippin · 13/05/2017 17:58

rise you wonderful lady! Congrats.

(And I really would value hearing about why you went for caesarean not induction, once you are feeling ready to share)

Brightsmoke · 13/05/2017 17:58

Congratulations Rise can we please have some baby spam pictures 😬

PeachIcedT · 13/05/2017 18:15

Congratulations rise that's lovely news!

Badger I also don't really feel ready, although I did get a great book out from the library yesterday, which shows all the 'simple' things like changing nappies, bathing baby, changing baby etc with step by step pictures. This was exactly the kind of thing I needed for reassurance! As for sleepwear, I'm planning to go by the chart which suggests clothing depending on the room temperature, but it'll be mainly short sleeve vest, sleepsuit and cellular blankets.

Enjoy the start of maternity leave esmes and vanilla and well done for making it through all those commutes.

I bought some last minute things I suddenly realised I needed today I.e barrier cream, nipple cream, a feeding cushion and baby nail clippers. Don't think baby wants to make an appearance very soon, that's not stopping DH making a curry though (he's even blended in a pineapple core into the sauce...). Part of this I'm sure is because he wants to miss his boring Monday morning meeting!

CoxsOrangePippin · 13/05/2017 18:24

peach what's the book called?

PeachIcedT · 13/05/2017 18:29

It's called Babycare - Everything you need to know by Ann Peters. Might be a few years out of date but all the information is stuff that I imagine doesn't really change much.

peasandquiet · 13/05/2017 18:46

Peach, I love the commitment of not only curry but pineapple blended in! I had a curry last night but alas no baby!! Just wolfed a dominos and am now wallowing in the bath.

I'm getting lots of downward pressure this evening but that's about it. Think it will be a while yet. I'm confident I'll end up past 39w which is when my son was born, I remember being all over the place emotionally in the days running up to labour last time but so far I'm pretty stable and not unexplainably crying!

We had our last family outing as a 3 today which was lovely, we just don't do outings enough so I'm making that my new baby resolution to get out more as a family!! Any other 2+timers have any new leaves to turnover as their family grows?

Good luck to all those in the throws of early labour, congrats to those who have had their babies in last 48hrs, rise well done for making the right choice for you.

teainbed · 13/05/2017 18:46

Congratulations @1004Rise !

@PeachIcedT that sounds a very helpful book! Babies often come out with quite long nails. Sometimes though there is skin sort of over growing the nails so make sure when you cut its nail and not finger you're cutting winces at recalling butchering DS1

savagehk · 13/05/2017 18:54

We filed baby nails rather than using clippers. I did bite them at first too when they were still soft.

crazyzooo · 13/05/2017 19:11

@badgerbird and @brightsmoke - I bought some growbags before baby was born but as they can only be used from 8.8lb I got some grobag- gro snuggles and love them. I found I couldn't rest as well with a cellular blanket as was worried it would slip up and cover face as babycrazy is quite a lucky baby!

crazyzooo · 13/05/2017 19:18

Hmm... kicky not lucky obviously
Big congratulations @1004rise! 💐

savagehk · 13/05/2017 19:31

That's why I got this one www.merinokids.co.uk/newborn/newborn-sleep-bags/cream-cocooitm-sleep-bag

Badgerbird · 13/05/2017 19:31

Yay rise, congratulations!! Glad baby's safe and sound and feeding already Smile

Thanks for sleep info. I find it confusing as been told swaddling is now a sids issue and not to use gro/sleep bags before 3 months Confused

Ooh I'll have a look at that link savage...

Rustler74 · 13/05/2017 19:32

Argh monster post written then app crashes! Lost it all!

Badgerbird · 13/05/2017 19:38

That's so annoying rustler!!

Ok so it looks like you can get newborn sleep bags and it depends on size/weight of baby, head size, if they do up under armpits enough etc....

ShiniBerry · 13/05/2017 19:40

Hi ladies, I dropped off the chat for a couple of weeks after my little boys birth. Having a really difficult recovery (have just posted my birth story) and am just catching up now.

Congratulations to all the new mummies, good luck to everyone with imminent babies and hugs for all going through a tough time Flowers

teainbed · 13/05/2017 19:52

Sorry to hear that @ShiniBerry hope you're on the mend.

EsmesBees · 13/05/2017 19:54

I used to nibble dd's fingernails as I was feeding her. Much easier than clippers (which still cause a right fuss today).

Badger yes, and even more confusingly, different brands of newborn sleeping bag can be used from different weights. I know for sure the grosnug (which is basically a small bag) can be used from birth.

Sorry you are having a tough recovery Shini. Hope you are getting support with the little one.

Rustler74 · 13/05/2017 19:54

So annoying when you type up loads and then it gets lost so I needed some time to calm down !
First of all @1004Rise Wonderful news, congratulations and enjoy falling in love with your bub even more!

My last 'commitment' yesterday was a truly wonderful wedding of a beautiful lady I've worked closely with for 6 years, and she looked quite the piece, and it was a perfect day with fabulous staff at a venue where the staff couldn't do enough to help me with my pregnancy related dietary restrictions! Totally impressed! It was totally worth the pair of cankles I still seem to have now.

Today was filled with the finalisation of certain nesting processes:

  1. Putting the handles on the wardrobe and filling it up with baby stuff
  2. Putting together Moses basket stand
  3. Last amount of baby washing with OH getting a big lump in his throat and eyes watering whilst hanging it all up!
  4. Last but not least admiring baby photos of a friend who was due 1 June but surpassed me by giving birth to a wonderful little baby girl yesterday (not at all jealous, really!)
  5. Calculation of my mat leave pay. Any help from HR trained people would help tremendously!

I think this might be as close to nesting as I'll ever get...

OH is now relaxing after busy day with some PlayStation war game, yes I remember which one... I guess I'll have to give him some time playing as I made clear there will be none of it in the same room as myself and baby once sprout arrives... he may need to 'wait' until we are out of the room to chill and cuddle together until he gets jealous... I'm quietly hoping he won't feel the need to play for the first month or 3-4... or is that idle hope?

FoxMulder · 13/05/2017 19:58

Wow congratulations rise!!! That was a surprise! We had the same EDD but no baby here.

Brightsmoke · 13/05/2017 20:44

Ahhhh it's just dawned on me, this is all my 'lasts'! Last Saturday night not being a mum, last lazy Sunday morning not being a mum, scary stuff!!

Hope your silence means your baby is coming @dreamofhungarianlanterns !!

Hadn't even thought about cutting babies nails until now, DH says if I can do the dogs I can do babies, somehow it seems more scary for a baby!

Hope things pick up for you soon Shini
