5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

I'm in the la la can't hear you camp when it comes to hospital bags / washing bedding / getting the buggy out etc. I've got 7 weeks left at work (though I'm on leave for most of next week) - working up to 39.5 weeks.

ButterflyFree · 19/05/2017 16:40

Currently 60 mins into watching DH play in the President's Cup Final (in 35 Celsius heat 😰) and it's still 0-0 - this is the first time I can really feel that my pregnancy blood pressure is through the roof!!! Trying to implement all the prenatal pilates breathing techniques is easier said than done in these circumstances...

Just praying it doesn't go to penalties as I think the level of stress and tension might lead to Baby Butterfly making an early appearance 😅😩

TinklingTheIvories · 19/05/2017 17:52

I've washed everything I've got so far ... still need more bits

It's waterbirthing course tomorrow for me and DH, then baby show on Sunday. Hoping to pick up a bargain or two!

Received a letter from the health visitor today with appointment time - has anyone had a visit yet? I'm worried they'll scrutinise the house and say how it's not appropriate!

Kitsandkids · 19/05/2017 19:09

Yes, my HV came this week. I was a bit worried as the house was a tip as I'd been out all day the day before and hadn't had the time (or energy) to tidy the weekend's mess. She only came into the living room (which was relatively clean and tidy) and didn't look anywhere else.

She went through a ticklist of do you suffer depression, do you drink, do you smoke etc etc. All of my answers were true but I couldn't help thinking that if you did do anything 'wrong' surely you could just lie about it?!

She gave me a few leaflets - safe sleeping, local children's centre timetables etc and a little black and white book for the baby which I thought was cute. It was all quite easy and just a nice chat in general!

Algebraic · 19/05/2017 23:03

Oh that's interesting. I didn't realise HV's came before the birth. Is that true all over UK so you think?

I had an antenatal class today and that said that if all goes well they will discharge you from the midwife (and her visits) after about 10 days and then switch you to the HV.

The class was interesting but short, was entirely about breastfeeding. I do feel there's going to be lots more to it than what we touched on today!

bluebird1235 · 20/05/2017 02:39

I think HV is pretty standard across the U.K. But I think what they are like is very dependent on who you get! As for you, you get discharged from there midwife's care after 10 days. I was in hospital for less than 48 hours and then got discharged but went back for 3, 5 and 10 day check up. I think if my boys hadn't been in hospital still that these appointments would probably have been with my regular midwife rather than in the hospital. Then you have 6 week check up with gp (for you and bubba) but pretty sure everything else is about HV.

Can't remember when I last gave you an update.... the boys have moved back to the hospital near home now and they're doing well. Still waiting for their lungs to mature but everyone is really pleased with their progress!

Lallypopstick · 20/05/2017 04:04

Good news Bluebird - do you know how long they'll be in hospital?

I'm awake at 4am as I had a very realistic dream that I had the baby today. The birth was fine (read my hyponobirthing book in real life before bed) but afterwards I wasn't sure what to do, and I didn't want to tell anyone or cancel the plans I have this weekend. Strange!

rhodes2015 · 20/05/2017 05:13

Great news bluebird so glad your boys are doing so well!!
lally was also awake at 4! I've just given up trying to go back to sleep so come downstairs & had breakfast!
tinkling my HV came out a few weeks ago, she was really nice and visit was pretty much same as kits just a general chat.

I ordered some clothes for these last few weeks last night (after having a meltdown yesterday morning before work because nothing fits) and some stuff for hospital to be delivered today. It really cheered me up!

glitterglitters · 20/05/2017 08:08

That's awesome news @bluebird1235 I bet they're changing so quickly now ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I had a HV visit with my first but no mention with this one. My first HV was wonderful. She brought treats for my dog and a packet of biscuits for us, and even when she was moved to a different area she always remembered me by name at clinic. The HV that took over was really nice too. Actually, so far I've not met a bad midwife or HV. I've had the same (community) midwife for both pregnancies, despite being in a densely populated city? and she is fantastic.

We've us a huge amount of cuts to services in my area for what the deem "non risk" patients. So dd didn't have a one year check and I've not heard anything about her second year check either. I haven't had her weighed since she was 10 months old 🙊

mynameisntLinda · 20/05/2017 15:09

@notthereyet if it helps someone once told me not to worry about how bit the baby is because they all have big heads anyway Shock lmao. Mine came out with his arm wrapped over his head and I only ended up with third degree tearing and honestly it healed fine. (It was the constipation a couple of weeks after that destroyed me!!). I'm hoping this one will feel easier if she keeps her arms by her sides like she's supposed to lol

mynameisntLinda · 20/05/2017 15:22

bluebird that's lovely to hear!
algerbraic hv never visited before birth first time and haven't heard anything this time.(although saying that ds was 2 in April and still hasn't had in his 2 year review, when I called in April they said they're only up to January 2 year olds)
Dont forget Hvs are totally optional, so if you dont want them just say.
kits I totally agree. I remember being asked how I was when hv cane and I said yea fine and smiled..really What I wanted to say was I'm miserable, sad, want to cry, don't feel like I love my baby enough and I haven't got a clue what the fuck I'm doing half the time. But I didn't say any of that for fear of what might follow, I didn't even tell dh how I really felt and only admitted it a couple of months later when I finally felt a bit more normal that I hadn't felt ok in the beginning. I never bonded with a bump either so it's not really surprising I guess.
Not sure where ds red book is let alone when I last had him weighed...probabky 8 months old before I returned to work Grin

glitterglitters · 20/05/2017 17:18

Packed my bags! 🙌🏼

Spindelina · 20/05/2017 17:25

myname, snap. DDs hand was in front of her face when she came out. Ouch. Bit of sewing up required! I got away with second degree, but in an awkward place.

bluebird1235 · 20/05/2017 17:41

Thanks everyone. It's nice to see them making progress. It'll probably be a few more weeks before they can come home. Everyone says aim for your due date but that's AGES and I'm optimistic it might be sooner. Got one of the boys attempting to breastfeed this morning. I don't think he got much out but he made a good effort and they aren't supposed to get the whole suck/swallow/breathe combo going until 34 weeks and they're only 32+2!

Algebraic · 20/05/2017 18:30

Aww that's great blue. Only need a tiny little drop at that age anyway don't they :)

ButterflyFree · 21/05/2017 23:19

So the 30 week bump, DH and I made it to the UK today! Innohep injection as prescribed by my OB/GYN seemed to do the trick as I didn't feel any ill-effects of the long flight. Managed to get a solid 5 hours of sleep in the sky too.

I'm now utterly exhausted and aching from every single muscle and ligament after such a long and busy day though! Step counter on my iPhone says I've walked 12.1km in the past 24 hours (and some of that was with my share of the total 100kg luggage between the two of us...). About to soak in a nice bubble bath before heading to bed, but I'm just so happy and relieved to have made it to London in good time and in good health.

Seahawk80 · 22/05/2017 08:31

Welcome to London @ButterflyFree enjoy hitting the shops!

Lovely to hear from you @bluebird1235 glad all is going well.

Not much to report here, set up the buggy yesterday and still madly doing diy to get everything finished before baby! Should all be done in the next 2 weeks and then I can relax!

Twixes · 22/05/2017 09:43

You're all putting me to shame with your organisation skills! 32 weeks here and still no bag packed. Our back bedroom which has all our baby things in it is a tip! I can barely get in the door, we're having work done to our house so it's going to be like that for another two weeks at least! Starting to stress me out a bit now...

Had another growth scan a week and a half ago and baby's abdomen had jumped from 11th to 40th centile! Was delighted with that, have another on Friday. Hopefully she's tracking the same line.

DH gets paid tomorrow and I'm hitting the shops for some bits, don't think I'll be able to get them into my suitcase as it's buried in that room somewhere but at least I'll have the stuff bought if there's an emergency!

Starting to feel quite big now as well, back is very achey and my reflux has upped the ante. Oh the joys of the final weeks! Definitely not feeling as bad this time around as last time though :) I was enormous with DS cos I had polyhydraminos, how I didn't get stretch marks is a miracle!

Seahawk80 · 22/05/2017 12:03

@Twixes our spare room - which will be the baby's room is full of crap and very much a dumping ground!! I'm waiting for new furniture to arrive so we can put things away - I think it will solve all all our problems but it won't! You're not alone!

Spindelina · 22/05/2017 13:23

Twixes I'm with you in team PNSC before it's even been born Grin.

Getting half term over with before I even think about it.

glitterglitters · 22/05/2017 13:33

Baby's room is full of crap here too Grin

Just had my 34 week midwife appointment. Turns out my lovely lovely community midwife who I had with dd1 and half of this pregnancy was in a car accident and broke her shoulder. Absolutely gutted because she's so lovely but also, being such a physical job must be horrendous for getting back to normal.

Midwife who saw me today was proper old school but lovely. She asked how sure the sonographer was about gender (to which I replied she wasn't sure at all) and she reckons it might be a boy based on her "old wives nonsense" Wink

Baby is measuring big so might be referred for a growth scan (35.5cm) but I've not got gd. Hopefully it's nothing. Desperate to have as natural a birth as possible.

Put in some preliminary notes about birth plan. I said I'm pretty easy going but definitely want delayed cord clamping (she said it's as standard with my trust now), skin to skin straightaway and try and get a "golden hour feed" in. Asked for the injection for the afterbirth and for Dh to cut the cord.

Gas and air and water if possible, try and avoid any other pain relief but judge it on the day.

Got to go back in two weeks. All feeling very real now Shock

TinklingTheIvories · 22/05/2017 17:02

@glitterglitters that sounds like my birth plan.

Went to a waterbirth course and it's definitely what I'm interested in as plan A.

glitterglitters · 22/05/2017 17:05

@TinklingTheIvories I had it with dd and desperately want it again but trying not to get too fixated on it. There's literally two birthing pools in my city of over 1,000,000 Sad

Kitsandkids · 22/05/2017 19:29

I think there's only 1 birthing pool in my city hospital and apparently it takes 24 hours to sterilise and refill, so I'm guessing very few water births happen in this city!

I've been to 4 antenatal classes now. Today we were told that sometimes when your body's getting ready to start labour you empty your bowels more frequently and it's looser. I suspect I'm going to get a bit obsessed with my toilet habits over the next few weeks! Ha ha!

At the antenatal they told us not to bother with birth plans as so much can change - just to let them know if there is anything we really, really want to happen. I'm just going to go with the flow as much as possible I think.

I'm nearly 34 and a half weeks now and I still haven't packed my bag.

glitterglitters · 22/05/2017 19:47

@Kitsandkids yeah I didn't do a birth plan with number 1 and this was more things I would prefer. Everybody I know who had a to the letter birth plan ended up totally different which can end up being very difficult to process.
