Morning! Another insomniac here.

Very emotional and consequently short handed with TH last night, plus I shouted at someone for jumping a queue yesterday Hmm

PeachIcedT · 19/03/2017 05:35

Oh dear, I pride myself on being an excellent sleeper but even I am awake now at 5:30 - this is not a familiar time to me! All good preparation I suppose... I didn't realise how much birdsong there is at this time.

RasperryInAMelon · 19/03/2017 06:19

What better time to be awake and catching up... especially when your bellys wriggling like a jelly... 🙄

@Brightsmoke HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! 🎂

@yellowismyfavourite 2 week countdown 🙏🏻roll on the 31st eh!

@MissMooMoo that's brill, I must ask the MW how to work out which end is which. I've not a clue 🤦🏼‍♀️ DH also tells me off for prodding!

@Badgerbird we've invited the PIL round for a curry tonight now. Does that count as birthday celebrations?

@SanitysSake 😂😂😂😂😂

@MrsJW15 I need to speak to my MW about the placenta delivery. I know there are two 'options' but at my birth prep class they said it may have to be done via injection if the MW who helps you deliver isn't comfortable with a natural delivery.

@1004Rise I slept without my pillow - ended up on my back a lot but no where near as hot and seemed to sleep for longer periods.

@Brightsmoke will save a copy of your lists for a proper look! Thanks

@yellowismyfavourite they say 30 mins max for newborns and then 2 hours max. Little stops here and there to get them out to readjust ☺

@stationaryace our MW team hold a session 11-3 in our local Mothercare every Thurs where you can drop in for help or baby weigh ins etc. Hoping that will prove useful!

@newbieho I too feel horrendously over emotional... cried myself to sleep last night because I'd had a nice day with DH 🙈

Yay!! Happy birthday raspberry and bright Cake Yes curry counts! :) Hang on..... will there be cake too??

So I've done the washing up and tidying now back in bed with a cuppa. DH still out (which is totally fine, last big night out for a looooong while bless him) so no need to worry about who I'm keeping awake.
My friend earlier told me off for being so hard on myself so I smiled when I opened up this herbal teabag to see this message....

Ps. I already told you all I'm a bit of a hippy ;)

Happy Sunday everyone and here's to having a nap later if we need/want one!! X

EsmesBees · 19/03/2017 06:59

Yes happy birthday bright and raspberry. Make the most of it and relax as much as possible.

Badger is that a Yogi tea bag? They always make me smile. It's really good advice for when the baby is here too. It's so easy to focus on what's not going well rather than what is, and loose sight of the amazing little person you've created. And I shall try to remember this at 2pm when my toddler will yet again refuse to have a nap and give me an hour's peace!

Rustler74 · 19/03/2017 07:27

Happy birthday @RasperryInAMelon And @Brightsmoke ! I wish you both a very special birthday and let the boys just spoil you rotten! We are missing a Mother's Day this year so they might as well make a big deal out of our birthday!

No insomnia here, currently on a track of feeling slightly more comfortable in bed, but my back still hurts when I'm in it for too long and OH is also complaining of his back so I'm thinking we may need to get a mattress topper or so?

@vanilla8 if they q jump in front of you, then you have every right to shout. Actually on Thursday I was walking the tills in Tesco near my work with my hands full of stuff (3-4 items) and everywhere was so full including the basket self till! I was so fed up and blowing ! A very kind lady came up behind me and offered to get my stuff on the till before her massive shop! See there are really kind people around ! I was moved to ... tears yes! Cashier started to asked if I was ok but I guess she has kids too as she stopped in the middle, prob guessing it's just the tiredness and hormones.

@MrsJW15 at pregnancy class we were told that the skin to skin contact mostly gets plenty oxytocin in our bodies so that the placenta delivery will start soon after birth. They also wait a little while to cut the cord until it starts getting lighter in colour so that baby gets everything before clamping. We can ask for a jab but they have generally let nature do its thing unless placenta is not there after 45 minutes.

Thinking of completing my birth plan but there are so many options, and I think that if they need to induce me, that I won't get the water birth I'm hoping for anyway. I'm hoping that baby will come before due date all by itself so we can avoid induction.

Also starting my hospital bag! Going to JL a week tomorrow to update the gift list and get last few bits I still need to buy with my £60 voucher.

Have a wonderful day all of you and don't omit the nap if you need one! My bestie is coming today and we are going out for lunch with our OH!

Tickyboovicki · 19/03/2017 07:33

Happy birthday raspberry & bright! Hope it both have amazing days and enjoy a bit of pampering.

Had our NHS antenatal class yesterday, was actually really good! 6 couples in total all similar ages (even the midwife said she was surprised by how well we all got on and chatted) and lots of non-judgemental information.
Think it made it all more ready for me, and explained some of the bits I've read. The other half doesn't really do reading so he said it was really good for him too!

Good old NHS!

yellowismyfavourite · 19/03/2017 07:49

Happy birthday @RaspberryInAMelon and @Brightsmoke. Hope you get spoiled!

After yesterday's wonderful nights sleep am back to normal today. I have lower back cramps so hoping a change of position will help... trying the sofa but if not will try the ball!

PeachIcedT · 19/03/2017 08:02

Very happy birthday to @RasperryInAMelon and @Brightsmoke ! I hope you both have a great day.

(Finally upgraded the app and it's so much easier to tag people now)

Today's mission is to research baby monitors. How necessary is video vs just audio for a baby monitor? Like everything else there's too much choice.

EsmesBees · 19/03/2017 08:18

I've always had a video one peach. I'd recommend it, it's nice to be able to check everything is ok without going in to the baby's room. You won't need one immediately until the baby moves to its own room.

newbieho · 19/03/2017 08:20

Happy birthday @RasperryInAMelon and @Brightsmoke! Have a lovely day

@Badgerbird good tea message, something I need to repeat myself more often!

newbieho · 19/03/2017 08:28

@PeachIcedT we have got small Motorola camera (streaming audio and video via wifi) that I am planning to use as a a baby monitor. Maybe that can be an option for you to explore?

Teaspoon74 · 19/03/2017 08:28

Happy birthdays Rasperry & Bright!!

And hope everyone enjoys their Sunday. Populating the shoffice (shed-office, geddit? ;) today so hoping the rest of the house will gradually become decrapped.

6 wks & counting...

Brightsmoke · 19/03/2017 08:31

Happy birthday, birthday twin Rasperry! Hope you have a fab day and enjoy the curry :). Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes.

It suddenly seems real doesn't it ticky! Or at least that's what we felt after our class yesterday.

I was up at my usual time of 4.45, I wish my body clock wouldn't work at the weekends! Lol

1004Rise · 19/03/2017 09:11

Happy birthday @RasperryInAMelon & @Brightsmoke

Sleeping all the way through on Friday night was a fluke still wasn't as hot last night but woke up 3 or 4 times... at least I had company when I was awake getting kicked left right and centre. All good practice I guess!

On the topic of placentas did they talk to you at your classes about a lotus birth? Where they don't cut the cord at all and you carry the placenta around with baby for about a week til the cord falls off? Each to their own, but I just can't get my head round the logistics of that one. The one advantage the midwife pointed out of having a managed placenta delivery is that once it's out then you get left in peace and you can have family time just the three of you, if you let it deliver on it's own then the midwife has to keep coming to check on you.

@Rustler74 I can't remember, why do they think they might need to induce you? If they do why would that prevent you from having a water birth? Something our midwife reminded us is that the hospital take your notes off you as soon as you go in so make sure you have a copy to keep on you.

@PeachIcedT We haven't bought a monitor yet, but decided against a video one, not particularly keen on using wifi for pictures (probably being totally paranoid by hey) and thought that we'd probably end up staring at the monitor all night rather than doing whatever it was were supposed to be doing!

jennymac31 · 19/03/2017 09:23

Morning ladies

Raspberryinmelon & brightsmoke - happy birthday!

Am still not feeling 100%. Stomach cramps and backache are intermittent and was sick again. Hoped that a cup of tea and a hot cross bun would help matters but still feel ropey. Might give midwife a call this morning.

Oh joy! 5 weeks to go!

Tickyboovicki · 19/03/2017 09:25

1004 they did mention the lotus birth to us! We're not too far from Brighton though and it's more common there, made for some interesting discussions. Definitely don't get the appeal of it myself

RasperryInAMelon · 19/03/2017 09:27

Thanks for the wishes everyone!

@PeachIcedT we went for an Angelcare monitor which has a sensor Mat, camera (not wifi) and audio for the cot. Like @EsmesBees Says, means you won't have to go into the nursery and disturb LO.

@1004Rise we didn't talk about a lotus birth but I've heard of it. Personal opinion... but 🤢 I just don't fancy the idea of carrying around a bag full of placenta for however long it takes to fall off smothering it with stuff to stop it smelling... not for me.

WishIWasSleeping · 19/03/2017 09:43

Happy birthday Raspberry & Bright!

We have a Motorola video baby camera. The sound quality of the nursery rhymes is awful!
We've never connected ours to wifi, I wanted one with an app for my phone but DH had read horror stories of people hacking in and stuff so he refused one. I think ours just works on short wave radio signals.
I did used to sit and watch it in the very early days... but now I have it 'on' with the sound down, and check the camera if she cries out. Def saved me getting out of bed or running up and down the stairs a few times! x

savagehk · 19/03/2017 09:55

Never used a monitor and don't intend to this time.

Re placenta delivery, there's a line of thought which suggests the injection can interfere with bonding hormones incl milk production. That said i ended up with it last time and had no issues bf at all. Will try to find the info...

MrsJW15 · 19/03/2017 09:57

Happy Birthday Raspberry and Bright*!

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 19/03/2017 11:09

Happy birthday Rasperry and Bright !

Vanilla and Teaspoon the hobby room is no more Shock DP used to use his (meticulously organised) half for making clocks, picture frames, bespoke tools to fix other things, general tinkering, etc. I used to pile my half full of things that 'would come in useful' and then annoy the hell out of DP by painting stuff, making partridge feather trimmed lamps, Christmas decorations etc on his lovely tidy half of the workspace!

Newbie I had my first cry today. Yesterday was a monster day of clearing out and rearranging to make above hobby room into the nursery. I have been so tired with the first two weeks of my maternity cover (she is fantastic but we've worn each other out every day!) and I was very clear with DP that I would work all day yesterday but needed a day off - checked out - nothing doing - today. He got up at 5.30am this morning and started all over again and then woke me up at 8am (after I'd got up and washed the dishes etc at 5am) to say he was stuck and could I get up and sit on a chair in hobby room to tell him what to do with all my unsorted hobby room crap precious salvaged items. You ladies are probably the only ones that will understand the tears of 50% tremendous guilt and 50% WTF I thought you understood today means NO !!

jennymac31 · 19/03/2017 13:26

Hope you're feeling better newbie!

Rang the midwife who assured me that she's not too concerned about my symptoms, it's just the pregnancy and baby boy getting ready for impending birth. She said I should take a week off but can't really afford to do that but if I still feel ropey by tomorrow morning then I might take that day off and take it from there.

ShiniBerry · 19/03/2017 14:02

Happy Birthday Bright and Raspberry

Thanks for the lists Bright i've saved them as well, haven't gotten around to packing my bag yet which I really need to get on (she says in a slightly panicked tone!!)

Hope you're feeling better Jenny, sounds like a rough weekend

Love that teabag message Badger, I think we all need to take it easy on ourselves

Cox love that your baby responds to your voice and touch! Mine seems to respond to DHs singing!

Newbie i'm way over tired/emotional/hormonal too. It's been a crazy past 4 weeks with moving and house stuff and buying all the baby stuff in one go. We needed a night off from our house and baby to-do list and went to see Beauty and the Beast last night and of course I was a blubbering mess to the embarrassment of poor DH!

Savage i've been told i need the injection to deliver the placenta as soon as baby's shoulders are out (i have a fibroid which could cause too much bleeding apparently), so am a bit alarmed to hear about the interference with hormones/milk production, though reassuring that you had no issues.

Is anyone having really achy and sore ribs? Even with my pregnancy pillow it's getting so painful to sleep on my LHS because of rib pain that i've resorted to a mostly sitting up/slightly turned to left/slightly on back position.

Interesting to hear all the car talk. We haven't got a car either as London public transport has just been easier. But now with bubs coming we've realised that we probably need to get one sooner than later, so the research has started!

How are everyone's NCT classes going? We were not going to book in for any as it was just too expensive in our area but MIL kindly offered to pay for our course. Ours start 1st April when ill be just over 35 weeks. I am a bit nervous about the whole making friends thing too, but hoping people will be nice and it gives DH a bit more confidence about what to expect and do pre and post birth (he's already said he's Ok with things getting gory during labour and birth but that he's not cutting any cords).

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday!

nursebickypegs · 19/03/2017 14:06

@RasperryInAMelon we got that monitor! It was given to us, and I'm still yet to try it out. Like @savagehk said, a few of my friends said that they have never used their monitor and TBH I can see us being the same.

Hello everyone. I will catch up with everyone tonight. I have not slept at all; my DH has epilepsy and suffers from night tremors/sleepwalking, which usually leads to a seizure. The last thing we need right now is him fitting. He had a bad night tremor, managed to settle him back in a deep sleep, and then I was too scared to sleep. I just sat and had my breakfast at 5am, and watched YouTube videos. He's okay now, but I'm so drained. I guess I have to get used to this! I'm planning to make fake Nando's for tea, and crash into bed for 7!!!
