dancingunicorn im sorry to see you go Flowers

Ladies it's advice time again please!
At dinner with DPs family yesterday DPs mum said that she wants to pay for our bathroom renovation, which would be about £3000. She knows that we're pregnant and we've been arranging for our bathroom to be done for a while and whilst we have the money to do it, neither of us are flush and saving the money would be great.

DPs reaction was 'no I can't accept it/I won't let you do that/just buy us the bath but not the whole thing'. I said 'thank you' and she replied that I knew how to accept graciously.

On the walk home DP reiterated that he would not accept it and got frosty about it when I said that it's something his mum wants to do, can afford to do and may be upset it he doesn't accept. All to no avail. She also has paid for similar things for his siblings and they all accepted the help.

The thing is I think she's under the impression that he will accept it and will be waiting for the first invoice (that's how she told me she'd pay for it) and I said he has to let her know if he's not going to accept. I really think he should accept obviously but he's very stubborn and I have a feeling he won't move on this.

I know this is a bit off topic but I wondered if any of you had any sage advice?!

Corrinax · 01/04/2017 09:26

@gimble hi gimble, in the same as ur DP i find it very hard to accept anything off anyone tbh im very stubborn too n always look after myself even now the dad dosnt want to know so i will be a single mum but i dont mind tbh coz im very independent i think its just a pride thing with the DP!!

Let him have a think or why dont he suggest paying her back every month instead? Might make him feel a bit more comfortable accepting at the end of the day its not just about him its about u and the baby too and if u need a new bathroom then he should swallow some pride and be greatful.

My grandad has always said its rude not to accept when someone offers Smile maybe its the german in him x

GimbleInTheWabe · 01/04/2017 09:39

Thanks corrinax yes I agree that it's a pride thing. Him and his mum aren't very close, no big issues but just aren't a gushy, lovey kinda family so I think he finds it difficult to accept it.
Yes maybe I'll leave it a week and ask him how he feels later on after he's had some time to think about it.
It's a little annoying because I will be paying for half of the bathroom so it would be saving me £1500 as well as him. He did helpfully say that I could accept it though Hmm.

Thinking about it he was happy when I told him that my parents would pay for our pram (we're getting the bugaboo bee5) which will be about £750! So I think it's a family pride thing maybe.

doomkittycleo · 01/04/2017 10:02

Gimble that's the pram I want 🙂. It looks awesome and cus I drive a convertible it's probably one of the few prams that will fit in the boot. Still got to pick a car seat tho, that could be fun. My car does have back seats, but they are quite cramped.

Lottbarn · 01/04/2017 11:29

I'm sorry to hear it @DancingUnicorn Flowers

SophieGiroux · 01/04/2017 14:22

Anyone else suffering with really bad headaches at the moment? Feel like I'm constantly taking paracetamol which is doing nothing. Currently have a migraine cool strip on my head which helps. My migraines had stopped since becoming pg but now they're back with a vengeance

Corrinax · 01/04/2017 14:57

@sophie i hav hav head aches from day 1 and im now 12 weeks! Still hav them all daya as soon as i wake up head is pounding but i havnt even taken paracetamol i didnt want to risk anything even if its ok to take! Try having a nap n drink lots of water

donkey86 · 01/04/2017 15:08

Same here sophie They started around week 12 and kept getting worse. I'm about to get to week 15 and they seem to be easing up - I've only had a mild headache today, and yesterday was the first day without one. I hope yours go soon, and yours corrinax

10storeylovesong · 01/04/2017 15:37

I've been having bad headaches. I don't suffer from migraines in general, but the headaches have been so bad that I was googling whether pregnancy can trigger them, which of course it can as pregnancy can trigger everything!

colourmylife · 01/04/2017 16:11

For those who are consultant led when do you have your first appointment?

I assumed it would be before 12 week, especially when there's a possibility you could have a condition which could be dangerous. I haven't heard anything at almost 11 week.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 01/04/2017 16:23

Colour the norm would be to see the consultant at 16 weeks instead of your midwife appointment

colourmylife · 01/04/2017 16:34

Wow that's ages away. There's a chance I could have a hereditary blood clotting disorder which could mean a high risk of miscarriage but it is treatable. I can't believe I won't be tested sooner, quite scared now Confused

PingusMistress · 01/04/2017 16:38

Colour I have my first consultant appointment on the same day as my 12 week scan, so might be worth chasing up.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 01/04/2017 16:40

Colour in that case why haven't you already been tested?

colourmylife · 01/04/2017 16:55

Yes I think I'll ring them on Monday to check.
I have no idea why I haven't been tested, to be honest I had forgotten that my dad even had it until i started filling in my pregnancy notes. I had my booking in appointment early at 7 week for this very reason and assumed I would be tested straight away.

10storeylovesong · 01/04/2017 17:16

I saw my consultant at 9 weeks through clerical error and he said it was very unusual to see anyone before 16 weeks as they don't see people before the dating scan.

powerpuffer · 01/04/2017 17:23

I'm seeing my consultant at 15 weeks and midwife at 16 weeks. Even though I'm consultant led, I still will be having all the normal midwife appointments as they do a joint approach. In my area we also have a dedicated named midwife that we see for each and every appointment, which I like.

BAR91 · 01/04/2017 18:16

@10storeylovesong I was seen by a consultant at 7 and 13 weeks. Will be seen by consultant at 20 and 34 too as well as all the usual midwife appointments. I'm high risk due to an autoimmune disease so that could be why.

thepotatoesofdefiance · 01/04/2017 19:03

Anyone else still sick at almost 14 weeks? I have been sick every morning this week but thought it was easing a bit generally, but today have felt awful all day. On the up side I felt the baby move this morning! Was lying on my side in bed and felt it roll over Smile Such a weird feeling but unmistakable and took me straight back to my other pregnancies, although I don't remember feeling it this early before.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 01/04/2017 19:36

Colour if you know what needs testing I would phone your GP and see if they can do it there, likely to be a lot quicker than trying to see a consultant, most hospitals are really struggling at the moment for appointments across the board.

emmaluggs · 02/04/2017 08:17

@potatoesofdefiance I'm still sick in the mornings, rather than feeling sick all day almost at 14 weeks. I can also stay up past 8 o'clock which is great!

Lottbarn · 02/04/2017 08:38

I'm 14 +4 days (they moved my due date forward to end of Sep- but dates don't add up so I want to stay as October if that's ok?) has anyone brought any maternity clothes yet? I'm getting uncomfortable in my normal clothes but just don't feel big enough yet for maternity clothes! It's so awkward!

Kirsty8333 · 02/04/2017 08:39

I had my 12 week scan Friday and seeing the consultant tomorrow. Also seeing the midwife at 16 weeks
