Ha ha, glad you're not all anti McDonalds! Grin Yes, the very nice guy who cleaned my mess did bring me another drink!

ButterflyFree · 09/03/2017 11:48

Hi lovely ladies - my first post on MN! I've read through the thread and would love to join in.

DH and I are expecting our first baby (EDD 29/07/17) so I'm currently at 19 weeks. We've been feeling baby's movements for the past week or so but my bump is still not hugely visible.

I'm British but live in Dubai (DH is Emirati), so doing all my prenatal appointments here, but we're planning to fly back to London in May for the summer and give birth there.

Any recommendations for where to give birth? Luckily my UAE health insurance fully covers private overseas maternity expenses so we're currently looking into the Kensington Wing at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, as well as the Portland Hospital... does anyone have experience of either of those?

Also, is anyone else here suffering from hypothyroidism during pregnancy? I had a thyroidectomy in 2015 and have had to increase my dosage of Euthyrox since getting pregnant as my TSH jumped suddenly, and during pregnancy it must be kept below 2.5 to ensure healthy development of the baby. My TSH is back within range now but I'm still feeling all types of exhaustion associated with being hypo.

One last question for my first post - our 20 week scan is scheduled next Wednesday, and up until now we haven't been able to find out the gender (last scan was at 18 weeks - I think they scan much more regularly in the UAE than in the UK...) because baby always has his/her legs crossed when it comes to appointment time!! I've tried the tricks of drinking fruit juice and eating chocolate beforehand but somehow this little one just gets all camera-shy when it's time for the ultrasound Smile Any other hints or tips as to how I could make sure he/she is moving around next Wednesday?!

mcnics · 09/03/2017 12:25

butterflyfree Hi cus!!

ButterflyFree · 09/03/2017 12:42

mcnics I thought it might be you!! Hiii :)

DrewOB0 · 09/03/2017 13:16

Jump around? Mine did not turn at scan, I ended spending 2 hrs there trying to make him turn for heart scan. He still was lying downwards

glitterglitters · 09/03/2017 13:17

@mynameisntLinda that's so frustrating about the jabs. My health trust set up a jab clinic at the maternity part of the hospital. That meant I could have my 12 week scan and flu jab and had my whooping cough after my 20 week scan. It was brilliant and such a smart idea.

bluebird1235 · 09/03/2017 13:27

Welcome Butterfly! I had a gender scan done at 16 weeks and one of my bubbas wasn't very cooperative but the lady just bounced the scanner thing up and down on my belly (quite firmly!!) and he started doing somersaults! It was quite alarming but got the job done!

I have managed to resist the McDs so far but have been having rather peculiar lunch combinations. I work at home so tend to cook something now because I'm so darn hungry all the time! I find myself adding all sorts of weird things together but I think they're delicious! Just polished off an enormous bowl of mashed potato with avocado mashed in and chicken. Yum!!

bluebird1235 · 09/03/2017 13:29

Also, I take a weekly bump picture to watch myself getting enormous but I'm convinced the one from today is smaller than last week. Has anyone else had that? I can feel them moving around so pretty sure they're ok but was rather alarming!

glitterglitters · 09/03/2017 13:31

@bluebird1235 that sounds gooood haha! I work from home as well. I'm always surprised at how many cheese toasties I end up eating for lunch just because I can 😁

glitterglitters · 09/03/2017 13:32

@bluebird1235 also totally normal with the bump pic. You'll find the shape changes too. My dd #1 I had a pointy bump that poked to the left most of the time but she'd move and it would go flatter and I'd need he loo twice as much 😂

bluebird1235 · 09/03/2017 13:34

Maybe that's it! I have been going to the loo rather often!

DrewOB0 · 09/03/2017 14:59

Can anyone recommend a seaside hotel in U.K. with a pool and spa that does pregnancy massage / trestnents?

rhodes2015 · 09/03/2017 18:18

Welcome butterfly

Ooh also fan of McDonald's breakfast!!Grin we always say we will have one at the weekend but then we never make getting there in time!

i had my transvaginal scan to measure cervix and a fetal wellbeing scan today. Everything still fine but they still made me an appointment for 3 weeks today for same again? I really can't see this cervix thing being an issue.
Baby weighed 1lb 6oz (Im 23+2) and consultant, who is lovely, switched 4d on and we saw her chewing her fingers and pulling on the cord.

glitterglitters · 09/03/2017 18:47

@rhodes2015 awww I bet that was amazing to see!

ButterflyFree · 09/03/2017 18:54

Drew0B0 - tried jumping around, turning onto my side... little one still wouldn't uncross those legs though! Maybe he/she wants to be a surprise Smile

Will give the extra-forceful prodding a go next time if necessary, thanks bluebird1235
*
rhodes2015* Thanks for the welcome, and how amazing to see your baby chewing her fingers with such clarity!

I can't wait to do a 4D scan but I think my 19 weeks is a little too early to get a good view. How early have any of you done the 4D scan thing, and was it successful or is it really worth waiting until much later?

rhodes2015 · 09/03/2017 21:00

Thanks glitters it was!
Butterfly this is our 4d scan at 16+4 private gender scan. Can't make out face but can see her curled up and foot is clear.
And then 23+2 today just her face and hands (nhs)
The pictures aren't amazingly clear as consultant was trying to get a picture without the cord in the way or her hand over her face but live was brilliant to watch and could see her opening and closing her mouth very clear.
I read on the private scanning centre website near us that 27 or 28 weeks gives the best view on 4d of face.

Hoping your little boy/girl is cooperative next Wednesday! Let us know how you get on!

Hello all! Do I need a GP or midwife appointment to get MAT B1 form? I need to get it next week, rather than wait until 24 weeks ( next appointments) , I wonder if GP reception can do it for me?

Notyetthere · 10/03/2017 08:49

Drew my midwife issued it to me at the 16wk appointment. Definitely get on it now. My gp surgery wouldn't have a copy of it but maybe worth asking them. Or ask your midwife?

OP posts:
thumbsupforthesixbillion · 10/03/2017 09:14

Drew My midwife wrote mine out and left it at the gp reception for me as I'm not going to see her until nearly 28 weeks (much to my annoyance!).

ButterflyFree · 10/03/2017 09:21

Rhodes2015 What beautiful scan images - thanks for sharing! I suppose it's better to wait until 28 weeks ish to book in for a 4D scan then, seeing as that's the popular recommendation online. DH in particular is so impatient to get a good view of baby's face though! Will have to calm him down for a couple more months Grin

I suppose if we are able to find out the gender next week, that will at least keep his curiosity satisfied for a little while...

LuciBee231015 · 10/03/2017 10:32

I had to ask for my MATB1 form at my last midwife appointment.

25 weeks today ladies! It's flying by!

Notyetthere · 10/03/2017 12:51

It sure is flying by. Currently at at gp surgery waiting to see midwife for 24wk appointment.

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 10/03/2017 13:02

We have had a very busy morning too. Dh went to gym, then dad popped round to help us cut the blinds to size for the nursery. Then dpd man delivered the cot bed; 2 massive boxes. Then dad put up the blinds and laid the carpet back down in the nursery. Then another delivery driver with the last bits for baby clothes from the asda sale. I think we now have enough mittens, 4 cotton hats and a few sleep suits and bodysuits. All in the wash now. Dh and dad have now had to rush through their lunches and off to start their afternoon shifts at work. I on the other hand, after midwife appointment, I will have to put in the hrs as I was much too excited to get any work done what with all the action around me. I will put the chest of drawers together tonight. Then dh and I will do the cotbed tomorrow. That will mark the main basis of the nursery complete. I will then spend the next few weeks putting the pretty on it, maybe some pics /prints.

OP posts:
mynameisntLinda · 10/03/2017 14:50

notthere wow a busy and exciting morning!

drew midwife usually does your MatB1 form at your appointment. They can't give them to you until 25 weeks usually because the pregnancy has to be "viable". Prob wouldn't waste a GP appointment for one, i feel bad i'm gonna have to get a GP note to say i'm fit to fly in April, i feel guilty having to waste an appointment but can't risk the airline denying me flying once i'm at the airport on my own with a 2 year old lol.
I should get my MatB1 for at my appointment in April when I think i'll be about 27 weeks (not really counting lol)

glitterglitters · 10/03/2017 14:57

My midwife gave me my matb1 form at my 23 week appointment but as it's my second pregnancy, and my first was textbook, I have less appointments. I need to get an additional form from the job centre though as I'm self employed.

I've started.... sort of.... thinking about unpacking the baby clothes and getting them all washed etc. But I can't be bothered just yet. Last time it was so exciting and this time, although still exciting, it just feels like chores 😂👌🏼
