I'm struggling having to put off larger purchases until after the scan, which is also tomorrow. I'm trying not to be nervous but it's difficult!

peasandquiet · 02/01/2017 11:37

Suffering with a bit of scanxiety for 20w on Thursday I have to admit, I've got a hormone problem that was picked up on 12 wk bloods that can affect growth so panicking slightly that baby could be behind. I've not bought anything yet but as #2 we have most stuff anyway. I've made a Boots and a John Lewis wish list and will order things as I approach 30w I think. I've been saving some money for some luxuries i didn't have 1st time around like a sleepyhead and a pretty playmat so it's exciting shop!
You may all already know this but if you join the Boots parenting club you get 10 points per pound on baby stuff. I literally found this out this week and feel stupid for the amount I've bought over last 2 years there! I'm currently trying to fight the urge to by a discounted Maclaren to see me through till the baby comes, the big pushchair is becoming very cumbersome with a heavy toddler, hip pain and a mini! Will get nearly £20 of Boots points back tho !!

lucieloos · 02/01/2017 11:58

Lots of scans this week then! It's so nerve wracking. Just want to get it over with now. We have a John Lewis appt booked in on Saturday to go through pushchairs etc with them. What sort of decorating are you having done Raspberry?

teainbed · 02/01/2017 12:46

peas do Boots harass you if you sign up? Can you opt out of emails and data being sold on? I made the Bounty mistake with my first (long time ago!) and haven't subscribed to anything else since extracting myself from that. But I do shop there loads and have also built up lots of points which I am saving also for baby stuff so it sounds like it would be really good.

Teaspoon74 · 02/01/2017 12:51

So the sickness seems to be back. Plus banging headache and the craziest anxiety dreams. Which is fun!

I feel like we've stalled again in our shopping/planning. We were on a bit of a high after the 20w scan and did lots of shop wandering (not buying) but back at work tomorrow and I know life and work will take over and before you know if the sales will be done. Sorry - just a tad of the worries and the blues Sad

MrsJ & Rasperry have you guys got your pillows now? Wondering if that might help with the sleep. Which is best full body or side??

Stationary me too. Need to go back in a week to check heart brain and thorax.

Badger LOVE that you bought a camper van! Memories of family holidays (2 parents, 3 kids, 2 dogs, 2 grandparents) driving from Liverpool to Cornwall with a trailer tent attached at the back.

Welcome Acorn!

And good luck for tomorrow Lucie, Wednesday Jenny, and Thursday Peas and Rasperry. Busy week for scans!!

peasandquiet · 02/01/2017 12:56

Tea I only signed up yesterday and you do have to opt in for marketing or you can't join. I'll see how it goes but I'm not overly worried about hearing from Boots as will only be offers but they probably will sell my details. I can't remember if I signed up for bounty or not I don't get anything from them so I either didn't or opted out successfully! A friend of mine joined every brands baby club going for the freebies, I hate to think how much spam she must get!

1004Rise · 02/01/2017 13:12

Tea re Boots baby club, I signed up a couple of months ago, haven't been harassed at all... think it follows a similar line to their advantage card marketing and is about once a quarter Smile

RasperryInAMelon · 02/01/2017 13:21

Gosh we're a busy bunch today! One last day of relaxing for me before back to work tomorrow Sad

Lucie we've opted for greys and yellows, so we're having the walls papered and a new carpet going down. We've been in our house for two years and it was previously my dressing room - we never bothered having it decorated, always said we'd wait until we fell pregnant. DH has been great and moved most of the boxes out into the Kitchen so the decorators can get in.

If anyone's looking at carpets - Carpetright have a big sale on until tomorrow, you can order and they will hold it for upto 3 months for you if you're not ready to have it laid straight away.

In terms of pillows tea I had a V Pillow but didn't find it supportive enough. I purchased a dreamgenii yesterday and had the best nights sleep I've had in a while last night. My main issue though is my lower back. I've always had a big curvature as it is, but am really noticing it now Sad

I've signed upto the Emma's Diary, Boots and Bounty emails - don't find I get too much spam tbh. It's quite nice getting their weekly emails that tell you what's going on. There's also a bounty ap which lets you see how big baby's feet are Week by week which is lovely to see Smile

Badgerbird · 02/01/2017 14:21

tea when you say miniatures for your hospital bag I guess you mean body lotion and shower gel not baileys and gin Grin Your family holidays from when you were little sound fun!

Lovely news that you're having a boy cinnamon!

Good luck with scans this week everyone, exciting and nerve-wracking time! We've got ours tomorrow and I'm still a bit nervous even though we had an early anomaly before Xmas! Just wish I could feel her moving, hopefully that will put my mind at rest when I do.

Nurse15 · 02/01/2017 14:50

Anyone else just not feeling any of this energy everyone talks about in the 2nd trimester? I can sleep 12 hours straight at night time and still be tired by 3pm. Wondering if my iron levels are low? Maybe book an appointment to get them checked!

MrsJW15 · 02/01/2017 14:51

Grin Badger those kind of miniatures sound essential!

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 02/01/2017 15:14

Hi everyone. And happy new year.
I thought I would share a nice story with you all. Yesterday my jeans were digging in a bit and the baby kept kicking against them (I really must get maternity jeans!). So when we went to bed I got my husband to push hard in the same place and he got a good thump. It was lovely to share the baby moving with him. A great start to the new year.

Can't wait for Wednesday's scan. X

yellowismyfavourite · 02/01/2017 15:29

Nurse, I have been waiting patiently for this energy boost... With only 3 weeks to go until the 3rd trimester and back to work tomorrow I am thinking it's not happening!!
We ordered our pushchair, carrycot and car seat yesterday... We went for the maxi cosi stella and cabriofix car seat... We got a good deal online so bought without trying it out first. Hope we actually like it when it gets here! We have also painted the nursery and ordered new carpet...
Good luck to everyone with scans this week

teainbed · 02/01/2017 15:53

Ha yes shampoo and shower gel but would be nice to sneak in something naughtier! Think it was teaspoon with the holidays I went to France lots. Grin

No energy here either. You should get bloods done at 28 weeks appointment.

Nurse15 · 02/01/2017 16:14

You mean someone who writes all this information was telling us lies?! You can't be serious!!! Glad I'm not the only one who isn't full of energy!!

Brightsmoke · 02/01/2017 16:24

I'm so jealous of you all decorating your nurseries already! Part of me is gutted I don't know the sex, it would be so much easier! Our nursery was my dressing room, but new carpets and painted magnolia just over a year ago, so have opted for wall stickers and will redecorate when the baby is a year or so old.

Lucie, what are your plans for the snuzpod? I've heard really good things about them, but already have a next to bed cot, cot for the nursery and Moses basket for downstairs so DH will probably kill me if I get another 'bed' 🙈

Tickyboovicki · 02/01/2017 16:50

Hi! Joining the conversation now as I only just found this group Confused due May 2nd with my first, very excited but currently a bit torn between what I can buy and what I should wait until after baby shower for? My sister and mum keep telling me not to buy anything else as they want me to wait and see, but feels a little presumptuous to not big things in the basis that others might buy them for me?! Anyone had a similar thought?

Barnes79 · 02/01/2017 17:11

Slightly freaking out (understatement of the day) - I just weighed myself and have put on half a stone in about 2 weeks! I already felt fat and now feel even fatter. I must admit I'm finding the weight and size changes one of the hardest things to deal with - is anyone else? I've even just tried on some of my sisters old maternity things and just felt like a fat frump - especially as some things were too small on my arse and thighs! I don't even have a defined bump as it's more like my entire torso has expanded (and my boobs, don't even get me started on my boobs).

At work there are two people who are about 4 and 8 weeks ahead of me and both were naturally thin before hand, but now I find myself comparing my fatness to their lack of fatness, especially as they're further along than me and worrying that people will just think I'm fat even for a pregnant lady.

I'm currently planning on having salads for lunch for the next couple of weeks and starting a running regime (I haven't run in about 8-10w due to back pain at night but it's eased a bit). Anyone got any suggestions on how to deal with this weight gain anxiety?

Sonnet18 · 02/01/2017 17:26

Throw your scales out. I didn't gain any weight last time until about 22 weeks and once I saw a rise in weight I just stopped weighing myself as I have weight anxiety. I know I've put weight on this time (was heavier when I got pregnant) so I don't plan to look at the scales until around 6 weeks postpartum (that's how long roughly it takes to lose say a stone or so with all the blood, fluid, placenta, baby etc) so I know what my weight loss needs to be. Try not to worry- you're pregnant and I bet you look lovely!

Tickyboovicki · 02/01/2017 17:26

I've been doing some prenatal workouts on YouTube which I have found really helpful with managing weight gain worries! I used to run (jog) before pregnancy but struggled with breathlessness really early on. Body fit by Amy is the videos i follow, there's a huge variety which helps!

Teaspoon74 · 02/01/2017 17:44

Good luck for tomorrow Badger.

& I agree MrsJW! Though I had a sneaky drop of baileys over crimbo and tbh I seem to have lost the taste for booze (which doesn't stop me missing the social bit of drinking!). In fact, OH is banned from some drinks as the specific booze breathe from, for example, sav blanc, makes me retch!

Nurse & Yellow - totally! I'm a first timer and still waiting for the much mentioned glow to kick in at nearly 21 weeks!

Yellow - where did you get your deal from? All about tips at the moment!*

Iamserious* what with sickness etc I've noticed I'm changing shape a bit but not so's I need to buy new clothes (which is both good (cheaper) and bad (no visible show of bubs and makes me anxious-y). Having said that, I've felt what I can only say is v localised bruise-type feelings that seem to come from inside v infrequently and leave no mark on the skin. No idea if that is bubs or me growing, though!

Bright - that's really helpful. I am confused about whether I need a snuzpod and a rocky crib thing and a cot and Moses basket and the bassinet carrycot thing for the pram. Do you think a carrycot would do the job of a Moses basket? And it feels like tripling up to get a snuzpod and a cot and rocky crib thing?

Tickyboo - jealous! Would love a baby shower, but closest mates are v dispersed (international) no sis and mum's not around so prob not the sort of thing I'd arrange for myself. I'd say if your baby shower is within the returns period, then maybe get the things you want in the colours you want and then you've hedged your bets... you may not be gifted things in the right colour/style anyway!

Barnes - don't beat yourself up and make sure you do what you need to do not only for your mental health, but for bump. I sympathise but can't empathise too much (I've always been big and was literally just chatting with OH about how anyone in casual work circles who doesn't know prob just assumes have put on even more weight!). Bottom line is our bodies are doing something wonderful and miraculous and that takes it's toll Confused

Teaspoon74 · 02/01/2017 17:46

And sorry about bold in last post Confused

FatOldBag · 02/01/2017 17:47

have put on half a stone in about 2 weeks Haha, so has everybody, it's Christmas!

Try not to compare to the other pg women you know. Every pregnancy is different, next time they might be the ones feeling chubby. I put on about 2.5st with dd, 5st with ds (yep, five whole stone)! This time at half way through I haven't put on any yet - but I notice I have a fair collection of new stretch marks on my thighs and arse, of all places!

Pregnancy is just unfair. I agree with PPs, just take whatever comes and try not to obsess. You can sort everything out afterwards (and if there's anything you can't sort, you won't care that much cos you'll be too busy admiring your lovely squishy baby than looking at yourself in the mirror, honest)! x

EsmesBees · 02/01/2017 17:55

We are still debating which room should be the nursery- we can either move dd into the bigger spare room or use that for the new one. Either way it needs to be cleared- it's still full of boxes from when we moved last summer.

teaspoon all you really need is something for the baby to sleep in as a new born upstairs and downstairs. So, for example, we had a bedside crib in our room and the pram downstairs. We didn't bother getting the cotbed until she grew out of the crib.

lucieloos · 02/01/2017 17:57

Bright, I got the snuzpod to make feeding etc in the night easier. We are going to try using the bassinet downstairs during the daytimes although if it's too heavy or too much of a hassle to lug it about we will probably get a cheap Moses basket later. Ideally I would like something on a stand rather than in the floor as well. I'm the same with the nursery as we are also having a surprise but we will probably wallpaper with something unisex and I've already bought a few bits to go in there but thinking maybe I will get things like curtains, cot bedding etc after the baby has been born unless I see something gender neutral I like in the meantime.
