1004 nothing upsets me more than bad advice, do you own research and remember there is plenty of time till may and no need to rush into it.
Car seat wise here is my two pennies worth, I was of the understanding than an infant carrier is the safest style of car seat for an under 1, mainly due to the fact it has its very own inbuilt roll bar in the handle and the baby is very snugly surrounded in there protecting their delicate necks. I read a statistic that no baby in the uk in 2015 had died in an accident in a infant carrier car seat which I found reassuring.
Also whilst getting one birth to 4 years may save money, do you think you will have another child in the next 4 years? In which case you would be able to hand the infant carrier down as you would be needing a second seat anyways. Whatever you buy consider longevity for read facing, 15months is just a min recommendation my son is still going backwards and I'm not considering turning him till 2 at least. (We have a Maxi-Cosi 2way pearl it goes on the same isofix base the pebble infant carrier went on biggest hitch with #2 is now need to buy another base ! )

Joining this thread now, I've been reading since 5 weeks but finally joining after a positive 20w scan Smile

I used a Britax Dualfix (birth to 4) from birth with my first, I'll be doing the same this time round. It does have a rebound bar like the infant seats. I'm getting my DS a bigger ERF seat, much safer to rear face until at least 4.

I just got a cheap pram last time, thankfully as I barely used it.

WishIWasSleeping · 01/01/2017 06:54

I read the 'rules' on 2hrs in the car seat also. We go over that all the time and she is perfectly healthy. It can take me an hour to get home from work sometimes, and if she's asleep I don't hoist her out for the 2 hr rule! Have also taken her shopping in said car seat, and driven to a UK holiday, both at least an hour over the 2hr rule. She has no spinal or development problems as confirmed by our health visitor at her last check. She's in the car seat for at least 6/7 days too. (Sometimes for only 10 min journeys) I wouldn't set my clock by it.

WishIWasSleeping · 01/01/2017 06:57

Oh, and hope you all had a fab NYE. I fell asleep putting the little rascal to bed and climbed into my own about half 11.. considered trying to stay away, decided not too! I'd sent the hubby to the pub so got a couple of hours of restful sleep before the rascal awoke for a cuddle. Think that's the first time I've not been awake for midnight since I was a child! Grin

MrsJW15 · 01/01/2017 13:32

Managed to stay at our party until 2am... exhausted today! Happy New Year all.

Brightsmoke · 01/01/2017 13:49

We're having babies this year ladies!! So exciting! Here's to a life changing, but amazing year ahead! Wine

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 01/01/2017 14:41

Ahh bright yes we are!! How exciting!! Lots of 'cheersing' to that at midnight last night.

Think I am having maternal feelings for the first time in my life... Had a fab time at friends house last night and OH and I went to bed at around 2.30am. Listened to him (and friend in next room) barfing until 6am and was REALLY nice to him as clearly very, very ill. Even stayed awake to make sure he was breathing Shock Shock Shock

Badgerbird · 01/01/2017 15:06

Eeeek bright!! That's so exciting!!!

Welcome acorn Smile

We had a "taste of things to come" NYE. Stayed over at friends house with another couple, there was 1 toddler, 6 month old and 2 month old. It was great fun, lots of laughs and baby snuggles too :)

Nurse15 · 01/01/2017 16:32

Hi everyone! Happy new year :)

I'm nearly 21 weeks and still wearing my normal jeans with no problems, no bump whatsoever yet! So disappointing. My baby has been head down from about 6 weeks so wondering if this is why? Sad about it!

teainbed · 01/01/2017 17:20

This is going to be a good year! Not long until the magic 24 weeks for most of us too I imagine?

Nurse how do you know it's been head down? Would be unusual they're normally doing complete somersaults until about now.

Nurse15 · 01/01/2017 17:36

Tea every scan I have she has been head down and I have a uterine septum that means she probably can't turn! She's unlikely to turn now according to the consultant! Smile

jennymac31 · 01/01/2017 17:43

Afternoon all

Hope you had a lovely happy new year.

Feel absolutely knackered after having friends around for new years Eve celebrations. Went to bed at 1am this morning and just haven't been able to shake off the tiredness.

Also feel quite irritable and anxious but I think it's a mixture of tiredness and fear for my 20 weeks scan, which is on Wednesday. Have felt the odd movement from bump but not sure if I should be feeling more. I didn't feel movements with dd until a bit further on in that pregnancy so am hoping that everything will be OK on Wednesday.

Barnes79 · 01/01/2017 18:07

Jenny - I've been feeling similar but my 20w scan isn't until a week tomorrow! I've completely lost interest in doing anything and think it's partly down to anxiety about it all. Fingers crossed that after our scans we feel a bit more relaxed... Confused

teainbed · 01/01/2017 19:53

Interesting Nurse! I had a patient once with similar.

teainbed · 01/01/2017 19:54

Good luck jenny and Barnes I'm sure you'll feel better after the scans but hope you can relax a bit before then.

Nurse15 · 01/01/2017 19:55

Ohhhh tea tell me more?!

1004Rise · 01/01/2017 20:56

For those of us in Scotland we may be a bit early to get one of these, but if we could get a list of what's in it it might help us work out that essential list http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-38470905 Smile

WishIWasSleeping · 01/01/2017 21:08

Nurse - I didn't have a bump until about 7m with my first, then it just popped.
I lost weight for the first 3-4 months, then gained a little steadily until the end. I felt it was really frustrating to start with, however I loved not having to wear maternity tents!

savagehk · 02/01/2017 05:41

Hi all. Another cloth nappy and wipes user here, they are fabulous. Re using Which for car seats, unless they've upped their game they were ridiculously biased against extended rear facing seats last time because they were difficult to fit or some nonsense. Safety should be top priority IMO and you only have to fit it once in most cars. Before you buy have a look at how long the seat will last, height and weight wise, and also how long it can stay rear facing which is far safer. Also, most high street retailers seem rather useless at providing quality advice.

teainbed · 02/01/2017 08:33

Nurse I think she did OK but it was obviously an anxious time.

My hips are killing me in bed. Sad

Bit early for hospital bag chat but I got some nice miniatures for Christmas that I think I'll put aside for it.

Nurse15 · 02/01/2017 08:53

Good to hear tea. I've basically been told that as long as she stays head down (which she should) then should be okay. Apparently risk is higher during first trimester for miscarriage etc!

Same about hip pain in bed - although fine at all the other times during the day I just wake up sore at nights.

CinnamonTwist · 02/01/2017 10:21

So, now that Christmas is over and we have told our families I can officially tell anyone who will listen/ shows any vague form of interest (GrinWink) that we are having a boy! (Obviously this is assuming the sonographer is correct!) We would have been happy either way so both just v excited to meet him this year! The big name debate has officially begun Confused
We also bought our car seat and pram travel set in the sales, we have gone for Cybex for both, but from different shops. Got approx 20% off the car seat in Mamas and Papas and the pram was an ex display at another shop we went into - so nearly half price, including carry cot and pram seat with rain covers etc. We also caved and bought a few cute reduced outfits and some sleep bags. Feels very real now Grin
Ours is a complete fidget! He has now been given this as his 'bump' nickname. That or Mr Fidget Wink

Happy new year everyone!

Barnes79 · 02/01/2017 10:43

For those with night time hip pain, try putting an extra duvet (or two) on top of your mattress, in addition to sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees and lower legs (not between your thighs).

lucieloos · 02/01/2017 10:47

Cinnamon, congratulations on a boy and well done with all your sale bargains! I have to admit we have bought loads now. We've got all the nursery furniture, cotbed mattress, snuzpod, video monitor, gro egg, a few bits of clothes, towels and a rocker! We got it all in the sale so it seemed silly to wait and pay full price for it all in a few weeks time!

We've got our 20w scan tomorrow (20w+2) and I'm feeling really nervous. What's the chances of something going wrong at this stage?? I've read a few borrow stories!

RasperryInAMelon · 02/01/2017 10:57

Lucie I'm with you. Got so excited buying stuff, the nursery is rammed with unopened boxes - pram, furniture, mattress, Moses basket etc and is booked in to have the decorators in over the next week and I'm off to buy a carpet today.

I have my 20 wk scan on Thursday and have started feeling anxious again... Confused
