Don't ever buy an Ergo from anywhere other than an authorised seller! There are loads of fakes on the market which don't conform to safety standards. I didn't get on well with mine because I found it too warm and struggled to sell it because I lost the receipt (bought in John Lewis so was genuine). Most sling for sale groups on Facebook require proof of purchase to sell an Ergo.
It's not ideal to have a baby facing out as it can be overwhelming for them. They can see over your shoulder if you do a back carry instead.

I've said it before but I strongly recommend going to a sling library session to try out different options. I've gone through an Ergo 360, Lillebaby All Seasons and a Connecta (or 3...) because I didn't try them properly first.

LondonGirl83 · 28/09/2016 20:36

The only sling libraries I can find in London are all during the day at strange hours. I can't really take the time off of work so was planning just to chance it and get an Ergo or Baby Bjorn but now you are making me nervous Spin!

FriendlyGhost · 28/09/2016 20:45

London I don't know if the design has changed but I don't think Baby Bjorn slings are particularly good for the baby's hips. Their legs dangle whereas the ergo is designed to be more like a seat. If you want to try some out then you could go to John Lewis on Oxford street. They have a weighted doll and I tried on a close caboo using the doll before I bought it. I imagine you can try out the ergo too. I bought mine after a lot research when dd was about 4 months. I didn't try it out first but I love it.

ScottishSnowflake · 28/09/2016 20:54

Thanks all - I'll certainly pay out for the safety aspect and if John Lewis allow you to test with a weighted doll, I may go there and have a look at the ergo and other baby slings. Really appreciate the advice!

MarjorySunshineDust · 28/09/2016 21:07

Manduca is another good buckle carrier, we used ours constantly until DD was over 2. Agree that babybjorn carriers are best avoided.

Evergreen17 · 28/09/2016 21:39

Thank you London SmileI might need to wait for a bit to start the paperwork anyway, but the fear...
I have looked into childminders but not much in my are Sad
I worry about not going back to work after maternity leave and that affecting my career, but I have had enough of my current job anyway so maybe looking for something part time in the area...
Shell best of luck for your scan!!!!
Kikis I will let you know! I am so sure it is a boy!!
I got a sleepy head which I will put downstairs if baby is napping in the living room and that will go in a cot next to my bed, then the cot goes in the nursery. I dont want lots of bits either. London I think better to put sleepy head on the floor but maybe before they roll is ok on sofa?
Thanks friendly Smile
I might look into that 32 weeks scan too, since I am a worrier...
Slings... I bought a bobba sling for when the baby is small and to wear at home. Then we will buy a carrier but carry on our back. I dont thing baby at the front facing forwards is what I like, I have read some research that says that forces their backs and not good.
Night everyone. Smile

SpinALittleFaster · 28/09/2016 21:41

There are some online rental libraries too but I can't remember the names off hand. The woman who runs my local library does sessions but will also let you pick up a sling to hire from her at home.
Most structured carriers aren't great for tiny babies so random day time hours won't matter by the time you need one. The general recommendation for a newborn is a stretchy wrap although personally I hate wrapping and will hold off until I can use my baby connecta.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 28/09/2016 21:42

I used a carrier with dd2 from about 4 months. I always had her facing me though, didn't feel right or comfortable the other way. Im getting a sling for the early months this time x

wispaxmas · 28/09/2016 22:02

scottish, I've tried ergo baby, connecta, and Tula soft structured carriers. All were fine, but I much preferred the Tula of all of them. I also have a stretchy baby k'tan for the early day, which is perfect as it's really easy to use and comfy. London, you can rent slings from it's a sling thing online sling library!

LondonGirl83 · 28/09/2016 22:03

Friendly that's good to know. I haven't actually looked into slings yet. Its on the list to research in a few weeks. Glad I can try them on at John Lewis. I might take DH there on Sunday before my bump gets too big :) which means I'll need to do my research tomorrow evening after yoga. There aren't enough hours in the day!

Shellbell0403 · 29/09/2016 07:03

Well it's scan day... so nervous!! Hardly slept! Haha.... now only half a day of work to get through....

Good luck fenella

GinIsIn · 29/09/2016 07:09

Me too Shell - so nervous!! Whenever I did fall asleep I had dreams that the sonographer was telling me I was just fat not pregnant, and must have imagined the whole thing! Grin

Good luck for today!!!! I cannot wait to find out what we are having!

Mysterycat23 · 29/09/2016 07:31

Good luck for scans!

Shellbell0403 · 29/09/2016 07:40

Haha my dream was I needed to poop lol xx

GinIsIn · 29/09/2016 08:09

On my way to scan now - feeling so anxious!!

Please could you lovely ladies distract me? Has anyone chosen names yet?

kikisdelivery · 29/09/2016 08:35

Good luck both of you, you'll be back on here before you know it!

Fenella, we sort of have but aren't sharing (though the OH blabbed it to his mum, FFS!!) but I have heard a whole host of amusing suggestions from others - Wolfgang, Claude, Boris..... Grin

ScottishSnowflake · 29/09/2016 08:40

Hi Fenella. Nothing I can say will distract you, but hopefully your scan will be like mine where i didn't get a chance to worry as they called me in 10mins early.

We have a name although hubby keeps changing his mind on the spelling.

It may sound slightly wishful, but I think baby knows his name as he'll respond within a minute or so of me calling it constantly.

Good luck for all the scans today. I've got part 2 of my 20w tomorrow!

Evergreen17 · 29/09/2016 08:41

Good luck shell and fenella! Mine is finally tomorrow!!!!
One more day!
Fenella no names as I dont know what we are having yet!!!
I also think that if we choose a name soon I wont tell to anyone, not RL not here because in RL people are mean about it

twocatsandatoddler · 29/09/2016 08:55

Fenella we don't have a name yet as we're really struggling with boys' names we like, but he's called Barry the Baby for now!

kikisdelivery · 29/09/2016 09:18

It's my turn to have a flap today ladies Sad

I got myself really stressed in the night. I woke up and immediately started thinking about stuff I have to do in work today. Then I worried about whether we'll be good parents and if everything will be ok for the remainder of the pregnancy.... then I worried about travelling this weekend (we're off to Spain) - whether I'd enjoy it, whether the flight would be ok, whether I'd be comfortable enough.

I know this stuff is basically first world problems or What If's, that I can do nothing about, but I woke up feeling really tearful and generally yuk - I guess I'm just being silly about something happening abroad and me panicking about not being near services I know/understand. I should be looking forward to this, especially given the weather today!

I'm going to get a little travel guide over lunch to cheer myself up, and just take each day over there slowly and relax.

LondonGirl83 · 29/09/2016 10:49

kiki Spain has great health care so not worry and you'll have a great time!

fanella we haven't settled on a name yet but our top two choices are Audrey and Penelope though We are not 100 percent settled on either. We weren't planning to tell people but my friends pushed as did my MIL so we've started being more open. No one has been negative but in RL I'll still be cautious before sharing 😀

kikisdelivery · 29/09/2016 10:56

I haven't heard the name Audrey for a long time, London, I really like it. My fave aunty was called Audrey, which is probably for me why it has happy memories associated with it and is a nice name to recall Smile

Thanks, also! I think tiredness from waking up in the night with a racing mind just made everything seem total shit today. I am aware I'm basically panicking over nothing.... at least in work terms I'm getting on with what I need to finish up and keeping notes on anything needing to be done by the end of tomorrow, so that's now less stressful!

Ragdollmum1985 · 29/09/2016 11:38

Good luck for all those having scans!

london I love both those names especially Audrey. Before I knew we were having a boy I wanted Lola for a little girl.

I have told a few people our choices and had mixed reactions so have decided to just keep them to myself now. Once he's here I can just introduce him with the name I've chosen and no one can make me feel bad (or so I hope!)

Ragdollmum1985 · 29/09/2016 11:40

kiki I recently had a mini break to Spain and it was lovely. Such a good thing to do before the baby arrives.

kikisdelivery · 29/09/2016 11:41

Ragdoll I'm kind of the same as you! No one (except the OH's mum, now!!) knows our first choice name - not because I am being weird about it in any way, but because I've seen so many friends harassed - mostly by family - in the past about why they didn't choose Great Uncle blah-blah's name instead of whatever!

So although our top name so far is basically completely normal and not at all off the wall, we're keeping it quiet for now and are probably just going to announce him as his name (whether it's the fave or whether it changes) when he's here!
