Rubbing my belly? Really? Hmm

ChozzleopsTheThird · 21/09/2016 18:42

I've stopped using bras altogether and just wear crop tops. I'm a lot more modest up top than you lot so far though Grin

ChozzleopsTheThird · 21/09/2016 18:43

We are also getting the Chicco next to me, and we got the silver cross surf pram. It's lovely... pushes like a dream one handed etc.

Readyfortwo · 21/09/2016 18:55

Comprehensive list London, don't think I've got much to add- just a couple of recommendations:

Bottles (plan to express breast milk)- MAM are really good for combined feeding as the teats are made from silk so feel more like real nipples. You will also need some kind of breast milk storage container, Lanisoh do some good bottles for this.
Breast pump- Medela Swing is excellent
Breast pads- don't go overboard on these- I didn't actually need them in the end.
Nipple cream- Lanisoh
Maternity pads- at least 40!
Nursing bras from hot milk
Bibs- Tommee tippee do a really good one with a padded neck which is very handy for catching milk drool.
Swaddles- I used a 'miracle blanket' & found that really easy.
Muslin squares- Aiden & Anais are lovely & soft
Baby bath- we've got a tippitoes mini bath which is brill as it holds the baby in place & gives you your hands back!

I would add 'water wipes' for the first couple of weeks as ur not meant to use normal wet wipes on newborns.

You'll also need nappies, nappy bags, normal wipes, sudocrem or equivalent. I'd get some Infacol, pre-mix formula & MAM dummies too so that you're ready in case of any issues (though you could pop out for them later it's just easier to have them in the cupboard!).

Oh yes, and ibuprofen for you. My cupboards only had paracetamol but after the birth you will prob want ibuprofen to hand!

divadee · 21/09/2016 18:57

evergreen I have never heard such shite in my life!!!! Don't believe a word of it.

DottyA · 21/09/2016 18:58

Evergreen that article is insane....ignore it! Eating ice cream can cause miscarriage?! It's also appallingly badly written...

Ugh, M&S are notoriously bad for bra measuring. TERRIBLE. Bravissimo much better, or you could measure yourself going by the steps on boob or bust. They were slightly off for me and gave me a band size too small, but I only know that because I know how my bras should fit having been fitted many times in bravissimo and similar shops. For me my cup size didn't increase at all last pregnancy, but my rib cage expanded, meaning I had to go up a band size, but I got by just by using bra extenders. My boobs didn't actually get any bigger after the birth, but my milk didn't actually come in, so I'm sure it would have been different if it had. I'm normally an H cup, though, so God only knows what I'll be with milk-boobs Blush

kiki, we had only drawers and shelves for storage for DD until she was over a year old, at which point we switched the pohang chair out of her room and put in a stuva wardrobe. We are all about the cheap and cheerful IKEA stuff in our house, haha. I know find it necessary to have both, but only because there are dresses to hang. I think I'd have stuck with just drawers if I had a boy.

Readyfortwo · 21/09/2016 19:26

Sounds ridiculous evergreen

MarjorySunshineDust · 21/09/2016 20:13

I don't know if anyone is considering washable wipes, but we used Cheeky Wipes with DD and they were brilliant. So much more effective than wet wipes with explosive poos and really no extra hassle to wash as just chucked them in with the whites when DD was little. Will be using them again this time!

I never needed breast pads either.

Agree with Aden and Anais muslins, the giant bamboo ones are gorgeous, really soft and useful for swaddling, sunshade, playmat etc We still use them often and kept one in the bottom of the buggy all summer for when DD had cold knees.

We don't have a wardrobe in the nursery either, pretty much all of dds clothes folded nicely in drawers but will probably get her one when she moves into the bigger room.

Evergreen17 · 21/09/2016 20:38

Ohmmy!!!
Thanks diva and dotty! I thought it was mad too!!!
Oh dear so much to add to the list Confused

Shellbell0403 · 21/09/2016 20:40

Woohoo found you all.... thought it had went awful quiet!! Haha

ever what a load of bull!! Walking and eating cold food and drinks?! Makes u wonder who makes up all these things!!

I need to go and get measured also but keep putting if off!! Is it still OK to wear underwired bras just now??

Had abit of a worry moment earlier.. suppose the joys of first time mum and can I do this or will I be a rubbish mum....

Evergreen17 · 21/09/2016 20:48

Pregnancy pillows anyone?
I dont want to pay lots but my back is a bit rubbish

twocatsandatoddler · 21/09/2016 20:56

We have hanging space for DS as his room happens to have a built in cupboard, but we don't really use it for hanging his clothes, it's just a place to stash nappies we've bought in bulk and other bits and pieces, and holding his bedding and towels.

We mainly use a chest of drawers for his clothes as I find it much easier to find what I need. I bought drawer dividers from IKEA which are brilliant - we have some in the top drawer with nappies, muslins, wipes, and calpol/nappy cream etc all separated out, and then more in the bottom two drawers so I can divide his clothes into pyjamas, vests, t-shirts etc (when he was smaller it was long sleeve vests, short sleeve vests, sleepsuits, tops, trousers). I highly recommend drawer dividers!

Readyfortwo · 21/09/2016 20:57

I'm with you on cheeky wipes marjory, we had the turquoise ones so I didn't have to look at any poo staines Wink. Found them much easier than wet wipes to use, and easy to wash etc. We use the microfibre ones now as face wipes, they're kept under the sink so DS just helps himself whenever he needs to clean his face & pops them straight in the machine Smile

Shellbell0403 · 21/09/2016 21:04

ever i got a V-shaped one from ikea but also seen one in Asda for £14 which I'd supposed to be really good too... think I will get that one also

GinIsIn · 21/09/2016 21:05

Oh nooooooo, twocats and marjory - say it isn't so!!!!! Shock Sad Shock

GinIsIn · 21/09/2016 21:06

I have a pregnancy pillow - it was about £25 on Amazon. I believe it's lovely but I don't get to use it much because the dog is still convinced it's hers! Hmm

twocatsandatoddler · 21/09/2016 21:10

marjory and ready I've been eyeing up Cheeky Wipes for a while so nice to hear a recommendation. I found cotton wool a bit fiddly and impractical when out and about, and I'm not keen on using wipes on newborns except Waterwipes, which are so expensive and are like a brick to carry around in the changing bag!

divadee · 21/09/2016 21:12

Is this new about not using wet wipes on newborns?

I used them with my daughter but just the extra sensitive ones. Hhmmmm now I'm all worried.

LondonGirl83 · 21/09/2016 21:26

Thanks for all the additional tips ladies!

Ever that webpage is rubbish and seems intentionally designed to freak on mums to be Angry

I should say the wardrobe I have isn't a proper wardrobe but a nursery one. Its got 2 large drawers on the bottom and the top has a hanging rail but also 3 shelves going all the way across. As baby clothes are so little and most things can be on shelves or in drawers, I thought it was really clever. When she's older, I'll take the shelves out so she has proper sized hanging space but I imagine I'll mostly use it for storing extra nappies, bedding etc as I think pretty much all her clothes can fit in one drawer at the moment and that hanging rail :)

Its this one from John Lewis- www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-lasko-wardrobe-white/p230927945

LondonGirl83 · 21/09/2016 21:29

Congrats cinderella

Wonderlust123 · 21/09/2016 22:27

London, from memory someone suggested a while back to just use a normal sheet over the sleepyhead rather than forking out for the cover.

wispaxmas · 21/09/2016 22:33

diva, the guidance was cotton wool and water when I had DD a couple years ago, so it can't be that new. I didn't bother with that, though and used water wipes for a while and then moved on to Johnson extra sensitive, which we still use. No one said a thing about the water wipes when we used them in hospital, so I don't think it matters that much unless you notice baby's bum getting irritated.

Wonderlust123 · 21/09/2016 22:37

Along a similar note of what's needed, I went into a shop earlier to figure out prices etc, and the sales person mentioned getting a car seat base for the car seat. Although, he also said it isn't necessary as it's possible to secure the car seat with a seat belt. (But not as safe according to him)
What are your opinions on this?

Wonderlust123 · 21/09/2016 22:38

Oh, and also said that the base costs about the same as the seat itself Shock !
