Ok rant here. So I am on hols in Spain. My cousin had a baby 5 years ago.

She was 38 and she didnt know she was pregnant until she was 15 weeks.
She used to be borderline obese back then and she just didnt know.

She had an amniocentesis to check for stuff.

So now they were all saying how unsettling it is that they havent given me one when I am "my age" (I am 35)

I tried to explain that we are different and different circumstances. That they took into account my NT measurement, my age, my weight, my bloods.... And I got low risk so that is it.

But they kept making faces as with "my age" the risk of Downs is high anyway SadAngryEnvyEnvyEnvyEnvyEnvy

I am thinking shut the #^? Up

Am I right???!!!!!!!

Evergreen17 · 18/08/2016 16:36

I meant to explain that she is in Spain too and I know that they do the NT measurement here too but she was too late for that

GinIsIn · 18/08/2016 16:36

Evergreen - FFS- the only reason she will have had the amnio will be because she was too far gone for earlier testing. Tell them to wind their necks in, science has evolved since then and you DON'T NEED ONE.

Daisydaisy18 · 18/08/2016 16:38

Hi dottyA I feel your pain... I'm the same as today marks the last of the three days... My measurement was 2.5mm so I've been on the ceiling for the last three days .... Rationale brain says it's ok but the wee irrational anxiety monster creeps back and says 'do some more googling'. ... I've had to give myself a good talking to keep myself busy... Fingers crossed we will both be ok... X x

Sienna9522 · 18/08/2016 16:58

My NT measurement was 2.3, I've read online that it can be higher depending on gestation. I'm also awaiting a potential phone call from midwife and/or risk level in the post.

DottyA · 18/08/2016 17:11

Fingers crossed for all of us daisy and sienna. I've been pretty good at not worrying until today but the wait is hard!

Evergreen you'd be very much within your rights to tell her to shut the fuck up!

ScottyAl · 18/08/2016 17:18

Wrote a long reply to a number of individuals and it disappeared-gah!

I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was over 10 weeks and had a few big nights out before I found out. Mentioned to the MW and she told me not to worry and then went on to say a glass of wine every now and again isn't going to harm baby. I like her Smile I used to work with teenagers with FASD and really worried myself initially as I know the effects it can have. Once I'd got my rational head back on I reminded myself of my long held belief that the outcome post-birth is a lot to do with 'nurture' as well. All the kids I worked with had horrendous starts in life and very unstable home lives. I probably sound a lot more namby-pamby than I actually am now but having a loving home can overcome a hell of a lot in my experience.

On a different note; has anyone else noticed they get really bloated as the day goes on? I start in the morning looking slightly podgy but not obviously pregnant and end looking about 7 months gone! It's awful and I feel so sorry for my DP as I spend all evening moaning about being uncomfortable.

Evergreen tell her to shut the f*!k up and then blame it on the hormones 😉

Shellbell0403 · 18/08/2016 17:45

Can I ask... is anyone's bump/stomach/podgy sore? Like if touch it etc?

LondonGirl83 · 18/08/2016 17:57

ever not only are you right but it's time to firmly tell them they don't know what they are talking about in a rude enough way they know yo stop bringing it up. You've got so,aimed the science but with some people only mild hostility gets the message through

scotty I look way more pregnancy in the evening that in the morning but in the last two days my bump has really popped! I'm 14 weeks tomorrow. I'm still losing weight due to sickness. If it doesn't stop by my 16 week midwife appointment I'll see what they recommend.

shell I have round ligament pains from everything stretching

Good luck to all those waiting for screening results

topmammy · 18/08/2016 17:57

Scotty I am feeling so bloated by the end of the day too. I hate it!

I'm also waiting to find out my Downs risk results. Also went with tests for the other two- Edwards and I forget what the other one is called. My NT measurement was 1.6 mm. When my mum was pregnant with my younger brother she got a 1:3 result for Downs Shock The MW came round to the house to tell her those results. Luckily he didn't have Downs though.

Naschkatze · 18/08/2016 18:07

Definitely look more pregnant by the evening even though I know it's just bloat.

Another one waiting for screening results. Although my scan was on Monday I had to see the midwife for bloods so that was yesterday... I'm guessing I'm not in the clear until next Monday?! The measurement was 1.7 so I'm not too worried but it's still another thing to get anxious about.

Summerflake · 18/08/2016 18:21

shell am I right in saying you've been really sick in the first bit?

I was so so sick and my tummy is often sore to touch or if I'm walking fast! I think it must be to do with my poor muscles having to cope with all the retching I've been doing.

I keep trying to catch up here and on Facebook but by the time I finish work I'm exhausted!!!!

ScottyAl · 18/08/2016 18:23

london, fingers crossed your sickness goes soon and you start gaining weight ( I mean that in the nicest possible way!)

topmammy and Nasch, have you found anything that helps with the bloating? It's so uncomfortable Sad

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and had my whooping cough jag today. Now suffering with a very sore arm as well! Asked the nurse about the anti-d injections too as I've read they're really painful but she didn't know as it's the MW that administers it. Can anyone tell me it's not as bad as the stuff I've read online?!

Shellbell0403 · 18/08/2016 19:01

Nasche My measurement was 1.7 and result came back yesterday as low.

Summer Yes I have been, still having nausea etc... now good days and bad days. I'm struggling with bloating at night and during the night.. what's the anti-depressant?

Shellbell0403 · 18/08/2016 19:02

Sorry I ment anti-d injection and it came up with that 🙈

topmammy · 18/08/2016 19:02

Scotty not really no, I've tried eating a small meal like just soup but by mid afternoon I'm feeling the bloat! Peppermint is meant to be good to get rid of trapped wind though so maybe some Peppermint tea might help? I haven't tried it myself though as I can't stand the taste of mint.

Is anyone else able to add people into the Facebook group as I've not heard back from Wispa. She must be busy Smile

ScottyAl · 18/08/2016 19:22

topmammy, I'll definitely give the peppermint a try. Small meals would be a non-starter for me. I love my food too much and am constantly hungry!! Salt and vinegar discos are the best thing in the world at the moment. Closely followed by any kind of roast dinner with loads of mash.

Shell, the anti-d is an injection you're offered if you're a rhesus negative blood group. I think it's to protect baby from the anti-bodies in your blood should they be a positive group (I didn't really take it in that well and focused solely on the words 'injection' and 'pain') and to protect any future pregnancies.

FriendlyGhost · 18/08/2016 19:26

Really bloated by the end of the day here too and so gassy. My farts could knock down a grown man Blush
For those of you waiting to join the Fb group and for any others who want to I've let wispa know you're waiting and hopefully she'll sort soon Smile

wispaxmas · 18/08/2016 19:31

It's already almost 300 posts into a new thread??? Sorry ladies, I'm seriously behind and lost. Give me a moment to catch up!

wispaxmas · 18/08/2016 19:33

Before I do, though, I can say that I did send invitations to everyone who has recently asked - 2 of you last Saturday. The email may have been filtered into junk/spam mail? I've sent reminder invitations to a few of you. There are quite a few email addresses listed under 'invited' on the group, so I know they were sent!

Readyfortwo · 18/08/2016 19:33

Loving how feisty everyone is today!

I'm still having the odd drink or two each week. Mostly regret it after as it makes me feel sick for some reason :-( I'm also pretty sure that women drunk during pg for years before they banned it, and that the reason it's become more of a big deal is that we drink a lot heavier nowadays- so as long as I drink like a '50s housewive/lady from downtown then it'll be ok.

I thought we had to wait til after 20wks for whooping cough scotty?

Naschkatze · 18/08/2016 19:34

Thanks Shell, fingers crossed.

Scotty I've tried peppermint tea and would highly recommend it. It helps with my evening nausea too! I'm afraid I don't know about anti d injections. I'm a positive blood group (if I've remembered correctly!)
How bad is the whooping cough jab? I've a bit of a needle phobia and while I've become ok with blood tests, injections still scare me. Weird I know.. Blush

ScottyAl · 18/08/2016 19:40

Ready, they say from 16 weeks here. I think you get a different answer for everything depending where you are!

Wispa, how do I join the FB group? I'm much better at keeping up with FB!

Nasch, it was fine. She told me it's the same needle they give to the wee ones in primary and pretty much told me to man up! My arm started getting sore about an hour ago, it just feels really heavy (a bit like someone has given me a dead arm!) and hurts to lie on it. The injection itself is a doddle though so don't panic. Going to invest in peppermint tea tomorrow. Will have to hold my nose and gulp though as I hate herbal teas Hmm

Naschkatze · 18/08/2016 19:45

Scotty Ok! It's always more the thought of it than the actual thing! Hope the aching lessens soon. I'm not that keen on the taste of the tea either. I add some honey/sugar to make it sweeter and it does just smell minty so it's not as strong as some herbal teas!

Shellbell0403 · 18/08/2016 19:56

scotty think your near me... what do they do up here from the 16 week scan?
