Thread five for the chattiest bunch of preggers ladies you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. We're greeting the second trimester with excitement and apprehension, and lots of questions, humour, reassurance, empathy and advice.

Evergreen join the Facebook group and then we can see your pics. That goes for the rest of you too. It would be lovely to see more faces Smile

Shellbell0403 · 12/08/2016 20:14

friendly I'm on there 😁 xx

Wonderlust123 · 12/08/2016 20:16

What's the name of the Facebook page?

gumbootsandjandals · 12/08/2016 20:27

Wonderlust nappy wraps go over nappies that don't have an integral waterproof outer. A wrap is a waterproof layer.

Evergreen I believe using washable nappies on one child, then disposing of them, has the same impact as using disposables. However, people don't tend to chuck cloth nappies as there's a thriving resell market or people simply pass them on. Many of my nappies are secondhand. They have been used on 2 further kids, will be used on another, then will be sold/passed on. Even if you just use them on one child then change your mind and sell on, you will still be reducing your environmental impact.

There's a Facebook page? How do I find it?

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 12/08/2016 20:37

I breastfed DS until he was 10 months and I loved it. I'll not lie, the first few weeks were very tough and he would not latch so he had to be bottle fed expressed milk. There was a slight bonus to that in that DH was able to share some of the feeds.

Over the week I slyly introduced the boob mid feed until he got it. After that it was a breeze.

I intend to st least try BF this one too!

gumbootsandjandals · 12/08/2016 20:37

As for method of feeding, I grew up surrounded by breastfeeders, so it was always normal to me. My youngest two brothers were mixed fed (and are arguably the brainiest of the lot!) and I remember making up bottles and feeding them. It was fun for a child, but a faff for my mum. I never considered formula feeding really, apart from when my hungry son was 3do and my nipples were feeling bruised. I liked how convenient it sounded, and cheap! My daughter was harder to get going than my son, who came out knowing what to do. I've saved £££s over two kids.

Bf is a lot of work in the beginning for more convenience once you're established. I'd say the first 6-8 weeks can be testing, and many women give up by 6 weeks because they can't see the end. Once feeding is established however, it's as easy as whopping a boob out whenever it's needed. No washing up required, brilliant for the slightly lazy amongst us, haha.

Readyfortwo · 12/08/2016 20:39

Just spent the last couple of hours trawling the Internet for maternity clothes. Didn't see anything I liked & now thoroughly depressed. I've got a few black basics but there's no way I'm dressing head to toe black for the next 5 months. Everything else is just boring or not my style at all. Help!

Shellbell0403 · 12/08/2016 20:39

Need to send wispa a wee pm and she will sort u on the fb group xx

PhoebeGeebee · 12/08/2016 20:52

kate55578 my monkey was also uncooperative when it came to the nuchal measurement so had my quad test at my 16wk appt yesterday (also heard the heartbeat - was lush). I'm now waiting for my results and shitting myself.

Re: breastfeeding - DH and I are doing shared parental leave so I'd like bubs to take a bottle quite early on. Anyone got any experience or advice for combination feeding or doing mainly expressed breast milk?

Wonderlust123 · 12/08/2016 20:57

Gumboots, thanks for the answer. That makes sense!

Ready for two, someone here mentioned the website IsabellaOliver, which I've now got bookmarked! It looks like there are a few nice pieces on there, and last time I looked there was still a sale on.

Holly1987 · 12/08/2016 20:58

Hey everyone

So the scan went really well. Before I could even begin looking for the heartbeat all o could see was my little pudding bouncing away Smile What a surreal feeling!

The measurements have now made me 12+6 rather than 13+1, so my new due date is the 18th Feb x

CinderellaFant · 12/08/2016 21:00

I'm interested in combination feeding too. My other two were formula fed however as this is definitely last baby, breastfeeding something I would like to experience. I would like DH to be able to feed the baby too though

wispaxmas · 12/08/2016 21:02

Yep, sorry, I've been remiss with inviting anyone who wants to join the FB group- if you want in it is secret so won't be visible to anyone you're friends with. Just PM me your email address and I can invite you directly to the group, as otherwise you'll have to add me as a friend on their for me to add you in.

wispaxmas · 12/08/2016 21:12

On the subject of breastfeeding: I intended to breastfeed my DD, but told myself I would be fine giving it up if I found it difficult or stressful.. Due to the aftermath of her birth my milk was delayed coming in and I shed sooooooo many tears over it, I continued to try to latch her on even when after a few days she would scream if presented with a boob, as I can only assume she found it frustrating. In the end I have up at 10 days and my milk was probably just starting to come in as I could express some that was less yellow than the colostrum had been, but I just couldn't handle it anymore. This time I am seriously considering just bottle feeding from the start, but will still give breastfeeding a go in the beginning as even just a day or two of colostrum makes a difference, or so they say. I did find formula feeding freeing and easy, though, and don't actually think the hassle of making, washing, and sterilising is much hassle at all.

MimiDiddy · 12/08/2016 21:22

Evergreen I keep getting pains when I sneeze too if I'm laying flat in bed, I found curling up in a ball helps.

Yesterday I got discharged from consultant care (was referred due to RMC) and told I'm having a low risk pregnancy, yay! I also got a cheeky extra scan at 14+6, bubs was moving about and the consultant thought it might be a boy, but then quickly said but it's too early tell.

prettypinklady · 12/08/2016 21:24

Measured at 13+3, due 14th Feb.

Baby was been awkward and was upside down. (Turn upside down to see). Was wriggling like crazy. Grin

Fab scan pics!

I've sent you a PM wispa and just realised it's under my other username. It's the AOL email, not just some random person trying to join Facebook Blush

Shellbell0403 · 12/08/2016 21:42

So.... looking at prams.... seen an Aston Martin one at...... ready.... £3000!!!!! That's just the pram!!!! Lol... sent it to my mum and dad for a laugh xx

Dutchy88 · 12/08/2016 21:45

I tried desperately to breastfeed ds but he just wasn't having it. I don't know if it was the GA cs or his breathing problems and three day stay in neonatal or just would have always been the case. I exclusively express fed him for 5 months before giving in and switching to formula.

I want desperately to breastfeed this time (I keep trying to convince myself I'm not that bothered but I am). I know it's not for everyone and I would never judge anyone who doesn't but I so want to.

Ubercorn · 12/08/2016 21:46

I bloody love prams and pushchairs, my "fleet" of four is parked in the conservatory (in my defence, two of them are work buggies). DD starts full time school next month and DS2 is going to preschool one day a week, they've both got their first day on the same day. I pre-warned DH that I'll be sobbing in the school yard so he says if I can keep it together we can go buy a pram and have a nice lunch while we're child free :D

LondonGirl83 · 12/08/2016 21:49

gum and wonder. The analysis assumes reusable cloth nappies are used by 2 children not one. However, if you read the analysis laundering is a big factor so choices made around that can make a difference in the comparison. DEFRA ran 8 types of sensitivity analysis so you can see if any scenario is realistic for your lifestyle.

Readyfortwo · 12/08/2016 21:55

Pheobe, DH and I did shared parental last time & will again this time. The best advice I got was to introduce a bottle very early (a lot earlier than all the bf advice says), so DH started doing the 10pm feed from about day 5. It worked really well for us, I expressed in the morning when my milk was richest & would go to bed after the 7pm feed. DH did the 10pm and I got 6/7 hours solid sleep each night before the 2/3am feed. It also meant I didn't have to cluster feed in the eves (which I hated). We used MAM bottles as they're meant to be closest thing to nipple texture. Worked perfectly for us, I gradually introduced formula from about 3 months & solids from 4mths so by the time I went back to work at 6 mths it was a breeze for DH to take over.

Regardless of whether you want to bottle feed or not I recommend having a mini bottle of pre-mix formula in stock. My milk also didn't come in at 3 days and I would've been tearing my hair out, but we let him sup a little formula out of a bottle lid and that was enough for us all to get a bit of sleep. My milk was in the next day & we were good to go from there.

PhoebeGeebee · 12/08/2016 22:00

Thanks Ready, that's really helpful!

Re: tummy pains, I find that getting up from the sofa or turning over in bed my muscles kill, like I've done 100 sit ups or something. It also hurts when I sneeze...
