Thread five for the chattiest bunch of preggers ladies you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. We're greeting the second trimester with excitement and apprehension, and lots of questions, humour, reassurance, empathy and advice.

Fourth thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2684139-february-2017-thread-4-are-we-the-chattiest-bunch-or-what

Good luck holly!

15 weeks here and feeling some definite movements. It's very reassuring to feel.

Sickness is back- being sick most days again. I'm still exhausted , when's this second trimester burst of energy meant to kick in??

I'm going to start buying things next month. After DC2 I got rid of everything as didn't think we would have any more so starting from scratch again.

tillyann2013 · 12/08/2016 08:58

Thanks for the welcomes, good luck today holly.

Def disposables here for us. :)

LondonGirl83 · 12/08/2016 09:13

Good luck Holly!

Shellbell0403 · 12/08/2016 09:13

cinderella i feel your pain... I was up during the night being sick and Iv never had that! Feeling horrid this morning

Got pains across my lower abdomen last night and today too..

Will be disposables for us also I think... don't really want to think about it just now haha...

I'm still on the do I breast feed or not at the moment...

FriendlyGhost · 12/08/2016 09:17

Good luck today Holly
Evergreen I am also an environmental professional! I thought long and hard about what to use and I made the decision that the added energy use from washing nappies doesn't make them hugely more beneficial than disposables. It's just a different impact. I did try the Eco friendly nappies but dd had a preference for explosive poos and they just couldn't cope. I ended up washing several outfits a day instead. The perils of breastmilk poo unfortunately! I will use disposables again for this one as I can't cope with the extra washing.

kikisdelivery · 12/08/2016 09:17

Morning all! Hope everyone's well today - welcome to the new faces and good luck today holly and anyone else who is being scanned Smile.

Ladies I have a slightly TMI question, sorry!

Has anyone else noticed an increase in discharge.... by any chance? It's not oddly coloured or smelling (so sorry about this info!!) but it's just suddenly there every now and then (not constantly).

Like others, I have also had what feel like heavy, stretchy feelings across my lower abdomen/uterus area now and again, not constantly. I'm wondering if with everything stretching to accommodate, my body is making more discharge to avoid any nasties/infection (I hear that's meant to be the job of discharge in pregnancy - to keep everything lubricated and clean).

topmammy · 12/08/2016 09:30

Definitely disposable nappies here. We'll have 2 in nappies when baby arrives as I don't think my DD will be ready to potty train but we'll see. Or i might have the joy of a newborn at the same time as potty training, ha! Breast milk poos are lovely in comparison to toddler poos though Grin. Anyone else breastfeeding their first child while pregnant? I reckon I'll be tandem feeding as my toddler is still an absolute boobie monster Grin.

kikis I have had some increased discharge. I got it last time too early on. It's probably the mucus plug that forms to stop anything getting through to baby. It constantly replenishes itself or something like that I believe.

LondonGirl83 · 12/08/2016 09:56

ever if you are interested in the environmental impact this report by Defra is the most thorough.
www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/291130/scho0808boir-e-e.pdf

It takes into account all impacts including production, washing, sewerage treatment etc. For the baseline scenario, disposable nappies and reusable nappies come out basically even regarding evironmental impact.

The report ran some sensitivity analysis on line drying, heat settings, and appliance efficiency as well as waste disposal systemsso you can see how certain options impact the overall results.

divadee · 12/08/2016 10:25

Morning ladies.

Back from a few days away. Good luck to all scans today. We must soon be at the end of the 12 week scans aren't we?

kiki I have had this as well. It seems totally normal. Although it still sometimes gets me running to the loo to check it isn't blood or anything. Gahhhh

steph0488 · 12/08/2016 10:26

Hi wondering if I could join too been following for a while. Had 12 week scan yesterday thought I was 12+2 measuring 12+6 but didn't change my original due date of 19th Feb. Very exciting Smile

LondonGirl83 · 12/08/2016 10:30

kiki I've also recently had an increase in discharge. It's very white - kind of like glue! I've heard it's normal

kikisdelivery · 12/08/2016 10:51

Thanks everyone! God this pregnancy thing is a minefield of "Is this normal?!?!?!" panics every five minutes it seems!

diva I know completely what you mean about the running to the loo thing! The amount of times I've gone to knicker-check (apologies again for the TMI!!) has been ridiculous!

Between that and the uterus stretching, I feel like I need locking in a dark room with no stimulus or Dr Google until February!

Ubercorn · 12/08/2016 10:51

Hi Steph, I have the same due date as you Grin

I'll be using disposables, unless I get DS2 potty trained by Christmas I'll have two in nappies. He's showing zero interest at the minute and I don't want to try it too close to the baby arriving so it's either before Christmas or after February.

I'm going to breastfeed. DS1 was formula fed, DD was mixed fed then formula fed, and DS2 was breastfed until a couple of months ago. I know its not a scientific study and it's only anecdotal evidence but, honestly, there is no difference between my children so try not to worry about choosing the "wrong" method. They've each got their pros and cons so it's just a matter of deciding which suits you best. What I would say though is if you're on the fence and can't decide either way then try breastfeeding, if it isn't for you then you can switch to formula whereas it's harder to start off with formula and then decide to breastfeed. Probably not wording that very well.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 12/08/2016 10:52

Topmammy, I had the joy of potty training with a newborn, was hard but luckily didn't take to long. My second dd was born 11 days before my first dd turned 2 and by her 2nd birthday she was ready and I didn't want to hold her back. This baby is due around 3 months after my youngest turns 2 so I'm hoping that she will be potty trained before baby comes, if she's not ready I'll just have to wait. X

Ubercorn · 12/08/2016 10:54

Just remember kiki that Dr Google has never been to medical school.

Did everyone get the Tommy's pregnancy book at their booking in appointment? I've been given it at every booking in I've had and I remember it being really useful first time around as it's split into stages and has question and answer bits about what's normal/not normal.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 12/08/2016 10:55

I've bottlefed both my children, they're happy and healthy and my eldest is advanced and youngest hittomg every milestone, sometimes early so I trust in formula. I an however going to try breastfeeding this time, simply because I will regret not trying. I had no regrets with the bottle with my first, she fed well and slept well from 6 weeks. My second was the complete opposite, fed well but was often sick and woke a minimum of three times in the night until 9 months, I took the bottle away at 12 months x

Wonderlust123 · 12/08/2016 11:02

Regarding nappies, is there any purpose to the wraps for cloth nappies?

Breastfeeding; I'd like to, and hopefully will at least for the first couple of months, but then I'm going back to work and my partner will be staying home with baby, so I'll give expressing a go, and see how it goes I suppose.

Witch91 · 12/08/2016 11:12

Thanks London, that Defra paper was really interesting. I'm quite keen to try washable, but not sure how I will get on as I am a bit rubbish at keeping on top of the washing - will have to get better when baby is here though.

Definitely thinking I will hire a pack from the local nappy library first to try it out.

FriendlyGhost · 12/08/2016 11:38

Thanks for sharing that London. I think I read it last time as part of my decision making process. Overall I think you really should do what is easiest for you and what you prefer. That goes for everything baby related really. It's hard enough getting through the mine field of a newborn so you just have to do what's right for you.
Top I'm still breastfeeding my 20 month old. Right now actually which is why I can type! I don't see her weaning either and I don't want to force it. I want her to choose to stop when she's ready. I fully expect to tandem feed. My only reservation is that she considers it her milk so I'm concerned she could be jealous of a new baby sharing it. I'm just going with the flow and will see what happens!

topmammy · 12/08/2016 11:58

I agree Friendly, there's so many choices out there it's quite overwhelming at times so definitely best to just go with whatever works for you. My toddler just turned 2 on Wednesday, I'm quite apprehensive also about what she'll make of someone else having 'her' milk! Shes no way ready to wean either. She sleeps in my bed too and boobs in the night; all attempts to get her sleeping in her own bed have failed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this next baby enjoys sleeping more than my DD ever has (she still hasn't slept through the night!). It'll be fun and games when baby arrives with the night feeds in particular Grin. I'm sure it'll work out somehow though.

Keeping that's encouraging that potty training didn't take too long. My DD is showing some signs she might be getting ready for it, like telling me she has needs or has done a wee or poo but when I say shall we get the potty she says a definite No! Grin She puts her teddies on the potty though.

Evergreen17 · 12/08/2016 12:32

Friendly thanks for that. This is why I need to get my head down and do my calculations on washing/energy/water/landfill impact of both before I decide! I am in for a treat GrinGrin

We are also both at same hospital, I wonder if we might be the same person Hmm

Evergreen17 · 12/08/2016 12:32

Kikis yes to discharge. Every day.

Evergreen17 · 12/08/2016 12:34

London thank you for that link!

Evergreen17 · 12/08/2016 12:35

Steph great news
Congratulations Smile

Evergreen17 · 12/08/2016 12:39

Completely innocent question here coming from ignorance and lack of experience with babies (help me god)

Why do some people choose formula over breastfeeding? Is it lack of milk or pain or time?

Thank you Smile
