Thread five for the chattiest bunch of preggers ladies you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. We're greeting the second trimester with excitement and apprehension, and lots of questions, humour, reassurance, empathy and advice.

Fourth thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/2684139-february-2017-thread-4-are-we-the-chattiest-bunch-or-what

Thank you friendly and sweets, I really appreciate the honest feedback about the classes. I am toying with the idea of doing both, as would love to also have the support network and make new friends in the area.

2ManySweets · 04/08/2016 11:57

in my experience and mine only (others I know have had different, much different) my NCT classes were the biggest waste of money I've ever spent.

Especially as they were the second most expensive lot in London weeps

Dutchy88 · 04/08/2016 12:28

Sat in the waiting room with 20 minutes to go. I desperately need to pee. If they're running late I've no idea how I'm going to hold on!!

Congrats evergreen now think about your wedding x

SBSparkles · 04/08/2016 12:43

Dutchy go for a mini wee if you're desperate! I was waddling by the time my appointment came (was half an hour late!) they instantly told me my bladder was too full and I let loads out and was still fine. Good luck!!! Xx

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 04/08/2016 12:48

Little wriggler doing very well, measurements were all good! So relieved! Smile

Due date shifted again to 9th Feb, so I'm exactly 13 weeks today!

Sickness has reared its ugly head again, thought it was just nerves this morning but I've been sick since the scan too. In fact, I was gipping in the car on the way home!

ScottishSnowflake · 04/08/2016 12:49

Good luck Dutchy!

ScottishSnowflake · 04/08/2016 12:49

Congrats ifatfirst! Smile

Dutchy88 · 04/08/2016 12:52

Shellbell0403 · 04/08/2016 13:04

Holly1987 · 04/08/2016 13:37

Great scan pics ladies! So pleased they all went well for you Smile

I can't wait for mine next week. Feels so far away! But saying that, these last 12 weeks have flown by lol

PianoOnlyTheWhiteKeys · 04/08/2016 13:38

Hooray! So happy for all the happy scans Smile (Getting a bit teary in fact!)

ButtonTum · 04/08/2016 13:47

Nicecup what a lovely pic! You too Shell, Ash and Ifatfirst! And congrats ever what a relief and good luck for tomorrow!!

Can I ask what people are breakfasting on at the moment? Feeling like toast/bread products are the only thing cutting it at the moment in terms of ms and lining my stomach for the day but the resultant bloat is unbearable. This is me after a wee and not holding tummy in Blush (excuse the bogs)

Yay for all the happy scans, lovely news!!

mrschn · 04/08/2016 13:47

Lovely scan pics everyone so please for you after all the worrying!

hels we did both NCT and NHS. For us NCT was the best thing we could have done. Yes, it's biased towards natural birth. But we have made friends for life and NCT locally have been a massive support network for us generally when I had problems feeding in the early days, and through their baby group. Friends we made through NCT have been able to pick up my son from nursery when I've been delayed hole from work, we share babysitters, and still meet up 2 years later. We were new in our area so it was great. In contrast the NHS one was for me a little intimidating. Very medical and my lasting memory was the midwife waving around a massive pair of forceps that she brought as a prop. Totally unnecessary, scared the bejezzus out of me, and even if I needed a forceps delivery in not sure how seeing a pair waved at me like that was supposed to help me in the process!

wm3010 · 04/08/2016 13:50

I found NCT invaluable for the social side and the other mums were a lifeline in the very early days after DD was born. One or two have become very close friends over the last couple of years, others not so much but we are all still in contact and mostly all on our second baby/pg now. I went to some of the NHS classes, they were more basic I found and very little opportunity to make friends.

SBSparkles · 04/08/2016 13:54

Congrats everyone on today's scan pics!!! Ifatfirst my sickness came back on scan day too! Weird!? It's like thanks but I don't need the reassurance today!!!
Ditchy it's not the best and pretty hard to stop but does take some of the weight out of the situation! Lol!!

SBSparkles · 04/08/2016 13:58

Re the antenatal clubs etc....when do you have to go to them? Is the NCT for more than just one day? I'm living in a new area and don't have any friends really Sad (saddo I know!) so was hoping to make some buddies along the way. I don't drive so they are often hard to get to! Some of the things that the midwife has recommended are just one off 3 hour meetings? Is NCT ongoing? How many weeks do you start at? Thanks!

LaBergere · 04/08/2016 13:59

Hello! Had my scan today too. Measuring slightly ahead so now my EDD is 8th Feb and I'm 13 weeks. I've not slept for a week so I'm so relieved after today. I got delayed bring seen which was quite uncomfortable bladder wise, but we were entertained by a poor woman who gave birth in the car park!!

Figures all good considering I'm 39!!
I might treat myself to a chocolate eclair!!

PianoOnlyTheWhiteKeys · 04/08/2016 14:07

We're moving to a new area too so are signing up for the NCT one with 5 sessions as I figured shy DH and I might have got confident enough to talk to people by the 5th one Blush but I think you can do a minimum of 3 all day Sat ones? In my area anyway.

It doesn't seem to be just about the classes either, lots of other events and support on the website, I'm definitely doing NCT for the social side and don't mind paying if its supporting a charity.

I'm sure more experienced mummies can give better advice though

Evergreen17 · 04/08/2016 14:17

Ifatfirst what a cutie! SmileSmileSmile
Shell adorable!!
Ahhh aww SmileSmileFlowersFlowers
Sparkles I have no friends in my area either. Because I work in London but moved to a village where DP lives
LaBergere great news for you! Smile

What is this NCT business?
Midwife gave me info on some classes but havent looked yet. She said from 20weeks on

Ahhhhh
I have a moving bean Smile

Dutchy88 · 04/08/2016 14:19

Scan all good although baby was moving around like crazy and it took ages to get nt measurement. Now just the wait for results

sleepyMe12 · 04/08/2016 14:20

Hi ladies love all the scan pics, just a heads up quite a few of them have your full name on the top.

My scan is on Monday so still feels like ages away, I'm sure I've felt baby move a couple of times Confused
I also look about 5 months pregnant but I'm sure that's because DS is only 9 months.

hels18 · 04/08/2016 14:34

Thank you mrschn, that is useful to hear. I am tempted to sign up to both to expand our network of people in the same position as us, and maximise what we are able to learn. I am very undecided on birth plans so hearing all opinions will be of benefit I think (however, I'll have probably decided by the time the classes come around!)

Congratulations to all those with lovely scans!
