December 2016... Babies

1002 replies

Penguinepenguins · 21/03/2016 18:30

Doesn't seem to be a thread yet for babies due in December, possibly because I'm crazy and POAS really really early but a line is a line and today was my "double check" second day and a BFP it was again!

I sadly had a miscarriage in November found the July babies thread a huge help in my early days of pregnancy and the ladies were very supportive after the MC - I've just returned to mumsnet under a new name as I was finding it a bit painful at one point and went a bit cold turkey from it all!

So here is a bit about me

I'm 38
This will be baby number one for me
EDD 3rd December (know when I ovulated been using the monitor - the app ok many apps I've consulted this morning confirm this as the date

Very nervous after last time but want to enjoy every minute I can, I loved being pregnant before and want to do all the same things as before just keeping everything crossed for a sticky one.

Who is ready to join me Smile

Bertie I'm very impressed with your plan for big purchases, I wish I could be so organised. I may have to take a leaf from your book, my husband will love the plan! It also helps to overcome the shock of how expensive these things are! Shock

SolomanDaisy · 18/04/2016 16:23

I didn't buy anything until after my 20 week scan last time. We'll be reusing most stuff, but I won't get anything else until much later, probably 30 weeks. I was a bit surprised at the waiting time for our pushchair last time (Bugaboo Bee, I think we waited six weeks), so that's worth thinking about a bit earlier. But then we ended up buying two different ones second hand (a quinny zapp for flights and keeping in the car and a baby jogger city mini when he got big) and there's no waiting time for that! The quinny is pretty wrecked from many flights and rough walks, but the baby jogger is like a tank. If I was choosing again I'd probably only get a baby jogger, they're so tough and easy to fold.

ChoChang · 18/04/2016 16:44

Just curious, are there many here who are having their first baby? It's so useful to see all the discussions about what people are thinking about buying (and strategy!). Will definitely be looking at all the different products mentioned on here, but it's all so new I feel pretty clueless about what I'll even need! Hopefully we newbies can pick your brains over the next few months and get an idea of what's useful/practical.

underrugsswept · 18/04/2016 17:11

I think my mood swings have kicked in. My husband was just annoying the hell out of me and I actually screamed at him. Blush

Hope everyone else is less ragey today!

underrugsswept · 18/04/2016 17:13

On the pram buying that someone mentioned up thread, ours took a few weeks for all the bits to come into stock in the same colour last time so it's worth planning for delivery a few weeks ahead of your EDD.

I have an EDD now! 19th Dec (but DD was 6 days early so I'm hoping for not so close to XmasWink)

KitKat1985 · 18/04/2016 17:35

I'm 7 and a half weeks now and I'm so TIRED! I just want to sleep but I don't think my manager or the toddler seem in agreement! Grin I'm looking forward to finishing the first trimester as it just seems to go on forever and it's bloody awful feeling like crap for weeks. Plus there's all the anxiety of the first few weeks which I hate.

We shouldn't have to buy too much stuff this time around as we have most stuff we need from DD (and most of it - bar her clothes - are in a gender neutral colour). If DC2 turns out to be a boy he would have boy cousins who I think would give us lots of old clothes as well. However DD will only be 2 will DC2 arrives so am thinking we will need some kind of double buggy / travel system hybrid thing. Something like this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Dual-pushchair-carrycot-Newborn-convertible/dp/B00SRBCS9A?ie=UTF8&keywords=double%20buggy%20for%20toddler%20and%20newborn&qid=1460997150&ref_=sr_1_2&s=baby&sr=1-2

I need to be able to try them out really though so I know if it would fit in the boot of my little old Fiesta. I'm looking but won't buy until after the 20 week scan at the earliest.

n0ne · 18/04/2016 17:37

SolomanDaisy by Nijmegen? I used to work there.

Helbelle75 · 18/04/2016 17:38

My EDD is 8th December just after my wonderful daddy's birthday.
Like you kitkat I'm looking forward to this trimester being over, but I've wanted to be pregnant for so long , I'm trying to savour all of it!

TinySalmon · 18/04/2016 18:19

Ladies, help! I'm 5 weeks today and no typical pregnancy symptoms yet except sore boobs and some tiredness. Should I be worried or is it still too early?!

HidinginPlainS1ght · 18/04/2016 18:25

I'm quite envious of all this planning. I have a feeling I won't buy anything until 40 weeks! I would love to be so organised.

I feel a little out of place here, the idea of a baby who lives longer term is not something I can yet get my head around. I can think positively for a moment but then I can't bear to get excited in any way. It doesn't help that two friends lost their babies yesterday and today. I live in a world where babies die. Sorry to be a downer, it's nice to see people positive and excited it's kind of encouraging but just wondered if anyone could relate. I'm worried negativity is not helpingme either 6+2 and I've not even made a GP appointment and don't really want to. I know if I leave it scan timing and stuff will be messed up but I can't seem to get the motivation to call. We had such terrible experiences with the medical profession last time.

On the plus side symptoms returned with a vengeance today.

duxb · 18/04/2016 18:42

Hi all and welcome/congratulations newbies. Hope all are well.

Had the tiniest bit of brown today upon wiping but with the missed miscarriage in January, minds have gone to the worst possible place. I'm due at the midwife on Thursday and am 8+3 today. Trying not to go "there" but it's impossible given our history. EPU won't see us without an actual bleed that is red so have paid for a private scan on Wednesday night. I know the EPU will disregard it even if it is bad news but it's all about us knowing one way or another - and that's prices less. Wanting more than anything for it to just be old blood and for it to be nothing to worry about but we shall see.

HidinginPlainS1ght · 18/04/2016 18:56

Duxb - hoping for good news for you. I had bleeding (brown then pink) in my last pregnancy. Was convinced I'd miscarried but all was fine. EPU happily saw us though. Difficult they won't see you especially with a history of miscarriage.

Kajlo · 18/04/2016 18:58

duxb - crossing all fingers and toes for you - I really hope the scan will be OK.

I'm so impressed by everyone's shopping strategies. This is our first baby (or babies if my 'twin feeling' holds true), and we're a bit scared it wont work out as we've tried for ages to get to this point, so I guess both DH and I are a bit hesistant at thinking about buying things. I bet that will change though as DH is a shop-o-holic!

BertieBotts · 18/04/2016 19:24

Hiding Flowers As far as I know, they won't see you until you're 8-10 weeks for booking anyway, so you definitely have time before you need to contact the GP.

I think for me being organised with shopping etc is just a way to stretch it out and help me not want to go full steam ahead. If I can plan it gives me something to do, and helps remind me there is lots to get through yet. I like knowing what different stages there are to something. It sort of gives me a safe place to jump ahead without attaching it too much to now. No idea if that makes sense. I'm a dreamer so I'm often imagining several possible futures at once.

Kajlo, I would love to have twins! What are the chances, though? :)

becciandbump · 18/04/2016 19:28

chochung im a newbie too so have also been intrigued by all the helpful advice over prams it's complicated but I'm sure I'll get the right one. I'm researching them now but not going to buy until much later on x

becciandbump · 18/04/2016 19:29

kajlo I also have a twin feeling there are some on my mothers side Id love it if we had twins but also be happy with one healthy one

BertieBotts · 18/04/2016 19:33

I didn't realise that, under - good to know. Last time I think I bought a display model so it didn't really occur to me that you might have to wait.

Thisisbonkers · 18/04/2016 19:36

cho this is my first!

And tiny enjoy it while it lasts! I was thinking I was symptom free... Threw up this afternoon!

BertieBotts · 18/04/2016 19:46

Should we add DC# to the list? Perhaps instead of gender for now and we can add the gender as an extra note as it comes? (People can also put country if they're outside the UK if they want then, too.)

Azure83 · 18/04/2016 19:49

chochung this will be DC1 for us as well. I have a couple of friends who had kids last year so am asking them A LOT of questions but it's wonderful to have this group!

I'm using Evernote to write down all different products I read about or people mention, that's my extend of being organised! SIL will be giving us a cot and a pram so I'm waiting to know what's what before I look into any new bits we might need, mattress, car seat etc.

hiding i can't imagine how worrying this time must be. I do sometimes wonder if I'm still pregnant and will get bad news at the first scan. I know it's not rational and probably unlikely but still...Everyone has different ways of coping with stress, reading stats and research about rates of mc works for me. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Babydreaming · 18/04/2016 19:53

My due date is 12th Dec! I think I'm currently 6weeks2days. I've been feeling a Little nauseated but mainly just tired with sore breasts and occasional dizziness (I honestly thought I was going to faint today!).

I organised for a private scan on Thursday but I'm now considering pushing it back til next week. My fiancée is worried I'll get really upset if there's no heartbeat and it might just be growing slowly. I'm not sure...I really want the scan for reassurance but I do see his point.

Do you think I'm likely to see the heart at 6w5days? Or should I postpone?

BertieBotts · 18/04/2016 19:55

You can see a heartbeat at 6w5d on a vaginal ultrasound.

BertieBotts · 18/04/2016 19:57

Oh..... with emphasis on the "can". As in it might not yet be possible, probably depending on position of embryo? Might be an idea to push it back a week if you're desperate to see something.
