December 2016... Babies

1002 replies

Penguinepenguins · 21/03/2016 18:30

Doesn't seem to be a thread yet for babies due in December, possibly because I'm crazy and POAS really really early but a line is a line and today was my "double check" second day and a BFP it was again!

I sadly had a miscarriage in November found the July babies thread a huge help in my early days of pregnancy and the ladies were very supportive after the MC - I've just returned to mumsnet under a new name as I was finding it a bit painful at one point and went a bit cold turkey from it all!

So here is a bit about me

I'm 38
This will be baby number one for me
EDD 3rd December (know when I ovulated been using the monitor - the app ok many apps I've consulted this morning confirm this as the date

Very nervous after last time but want to enjoy every minute I can, I loved being pregnant before and want to do all the same things as before just keeping everything crossed for a sticky one.

Who is ready to join me Smile

tinysalmon im also 5 weeks and very little in the way of symptoms in fact I think I'm imagining the sore boobs. Maybe a little tired but I tire easily when I'm not pregnant so please don't worry I'm sure our turn will come later

KitKat1985 · 18/04/2016 20:02

Hiding I'm sorry for all you have been though. I have a friend who went through an ectopic and then a MC at 9 weeks last year, and she's said she's terrified of getting pregnant again because she knows she'll just spend the whole time waiting for something to happen. Do you have someone who could go to the GP with you? Flowers

As for the list, please feel free to add any extra info you want or find helpful. There's quite a lot of us so it's useful to have a basic list of everyone's usernames and general info I find, so I hope people are finding it helpful. Smile

rider1975 · 18/04/2016 20:20

Hi girls - I'm 6 weeks today with EDD of 12 December. This will be my first following a MMC in Oct 2014. I have every available finger and toe crossed to make the first trimester. Got pregnant after doing those ovulation tests for first time so was a nice surprise, esp given I'm 41. Had a high heart rate and some constant lower abdominal pain and my walk in centre sent me to an EPU for a trans-vaginal scan - everything looked good Smile. Got another scan next week to hopefully confirm the heartbeat. Apart from sore boobs just been really tired and seem to cope badly with stress - even tearful at times. Slight nausea - nothing major. Already feeling nervous for my scan next week as this was around the time I MC'd.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone a bit better SmileFlowers

StubbleTurnips · 18/04/2016 20:33

Anyone else got belly button pain??
I didn't have it with DD, and It's freaking me out!

DartmoorDoughnut · 18/04/2016 20:47

In terms of products I massively recommend the sleepyhead, admittedly no use for the first few weeks but after that it's brilliant!

BertieBotts · 18/04/2016 21:11

True KitKat :)

Dartmoor, what is a sleepyhead?

MrsJoJo · 18/04/2016 22:03

Wow just catching up!

See a few of you are overseas - my DS (now 8) was born in Bangkok! The care was amazing but there are no midwives in the country. The country has an appaling c-section rate (98% at the hospital I used) so my biggest fear was being forced into one... I ended up with pre-eclampsia and an emcs but the whole process taught me to be proactive and assertive! I had two second opinions before I consented to my section!

Now I'm back home the NHS is an unknown to me! I know it won't compare in many ways but staff who understand me will be good as I had a panic attack about 8 hrs after delivery and no-one knew what to do with me.

As for buying stuff, we're hoping to move and have a whole lot of work to do on our new home so will wait as long as possible before buying. eBay and local selling pages will be our choices but we will buy a new maxi-cosi car-seat & base and a new cot mattress! I'm also hoping to get my wrap sling back from my SIL plus an Ergo!

DartmoorDoughnut · 18/04/2016 22:05

It's basically a bed nest sort of thing www.johnlewis.com/sleepyhead-deluxe-portable-baby-pod-white/p231482924 you can make similar using blankets rolled up and shoved under the sheet but I like the fact that I know it's breathable and it's portable - used to put it on the kitchen table and stick DS in it whilst I did dinner! - helps them feel more secure in the crib, I now have the bigger version and DS is asleep in it in his cot. Also would def recommend a sling - used a Close Caboo for the first few months - means you have your hands free.

Kajlo · 19/04/2016 06:46

Bertie - narrow chance - but we've got fraternal twins on my mother's side, and I'm 35 - going on 36, plus some pretty crazy pregnancy symptoms from really early on - so slightly hopeful!

becci that's fab! I've searced for early twin pregnancy signs and keep obsessing about it - so I might build it up to more than it really is, but it would be brilliant to have them. That said, a healthy baby is really what we hope for and we would be delighted with a wee singleton. :) It would also eliminate the risks associated with twin pregnancies and births. DH's colleague lost both their twins after they were born... so heartbreaking.

FlyingSpaghettiM0nster · 19/04/2016 06:50

Ladies, I have poas for the final time! As a chronic worrier, I've been taking tests every couple of days to make sure the line gets stronger and that I'm still pregnant. This resulted in me having a tizzy on Sunday with a Clear Blue digital that said 1-2 when I was 5 weeks (should have said 2-3 or 3+). I had 2 tests left this morning and I'm fed up of worrying so much so I just peed on them all. Yes the line was once again stronger and the CB now says 2-3. So now I'm zen.

My book arrived yesterday as well! The Pregnancy Day By Day, the author is Maggie something, it's a DK book. I could knock someone out with it it's that heavy. Had a quick look through and I'm quite impressed with it. Smile

ChoChang · 19/04/2016 07:10

Glad there are some other first timers out there, makes me a feel a little less lost! That sleepyhead looks ace Dartmoor it's gone on my list of products to check out.

flying at 6+3 yesterday I felt a really strong need to poas, which I haven't done since I got the 3+ weeks on the digital. I almost went and bought another digi but pulled myself together and poa internet cheapie that I already had. Think I'm feeling anxious about my early scan next week, am scared that there'll be nothing there so it made me feel a little better to see a dark line on the ic!

I'm going to buy a book after early scan if everything is ok.

barkingtreefrog · 19/04/2016 07:33

Hello, I'd like to tentatively join.... I've read through the whole thread and can see I'm in some good company. We've been ttc#1 since 2011 and have had three miscarriages following fertility treatment. This was our very last ivf before giving up and moving onto adoption so my anxiety levels are through the roof. We had a scan yesterday at 6+3 and saw a heartbeat so I'm trying to be positive, but way too scared to be booking a midwife appointment or anything yet. Due to my history we have another scan next Friday which seems a very long way away...
I can't imagine myself buying anything other than a car seat until the baby comes home from hospital. All DH will say so far is 'Let's not get our hopes up'.
I have sore boobs, insomnia and nausea but I've had them all since embryo transfer due to all the drugs I'm on to try and prevent another miscarriage, so they don't make me feel like I have pregnancy symptoms!

I haven't calculated my EDD as it's too painful to know the exact date if it goes wrong, so I'm only going to look if the scan next week is okay. I'm trying to avoid accidentally working it out by seeing who is the same time along as me!!!

SolomanDaisy · 19/04/2016 08:01

Hiding, it must be very difficult for you after your recent terrible experiences. I'm so sorry for your loss. Before DS I had been through a long period of infertility and had a miscarriage, and I found it very difficult to adjust to the idea of a baby that would stick around. Then a few days after he was born he got ill and ended up in NICU. Obviously you then see a lot of sick babies and get an idea of how many things can go wrong. That gave me just a glimpse of what you must be going through. So I'm not relaxing or telling DS or anything like that. We were lucky and had excellent care, both in the hospitals DS was in and from our own midwife team, it sounds like you've had really bad experiences with medical staff which must make everything worse. A friend of mine had been through something similar and was referred to a specialist mental health support midwife so she had extra support during pregnancy, perhaps that might be an option for you?

SouthDownsSunshine · 19/04/2016 08:45

Hi barking, and congrats. I'm also here after 3mc and very scared! Not on any medication as I'm still waiting for my appointment to the recurrent miscarriage clinic (I was referred in Jan!). Hoping and praying we both have healthy pregnancies this time Flowers

DartmoorDoughnut · 19/04/2016 09:06

Hi barking!! I'm a Berry grad and fricking over the moon to see you xxx

Thisisbonkers · 19/04/2016 10:43

I can confirm that Rice Krispies appear to be a safe food today. Going for a little an often approach. Sorry, colleagues!

They are so going to guess what's up. Especially if I wind up as green as I did yesterday (thankfully wfh post blood test!).

kippersandcurtains · 19/04/2016 10:44

Hello everyone!
barking congratulations - I have everything crossed for you. I have two nephews and one cousin born after multiple IVF treatments, much loved and worth every bit of the tough journey.
Thinking of you too hiding Flowers
kajlo and all the twin-hopers, I have always loved the idea of twins but this time I keeping everything crossed that there is only one healthy baby for me. I am not sure I could cope with going from 2 to 4 in one jump!

For those with older children - have you told them yet? I haven't, as I feel they'd be very upset if something went wrong and consider them too young to understand about the looooong wait (I can predict I would be asked 'how many sleeps', plus 'can it be a boy baby' and 'can we call him Eric'). However we'll need to explain it to them at some point and I haven't really considered how/when. I'd be interested in advice from those who have done so before?

kippersandcurtains · 19/04/2016 10:47

bonkers I am trying not to be smug that the morning sickness caught up with you in the end Wink

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 10:51

We have but DS is older and we have explained that baby is very little and sometimes little ones aren't strong enough to be born so we have to wait and see and hope that it is. I thought that he would want to be involved in the little fun things like finding out what kind of food it's the same size as today, which he is enjoying.

I remember hearing advice to mums with smaller age gaps not to say anything until you have a noticeable bump so that they can see. For very little ones not until you can feel movement from the outside and read a lot of books etc. Plus many children's programmes have episodes where mum/auntie goes into hospital to have a new baby and how the siblings feel. I remember as a child watching an episode of Playdays all about "the new baby" and being too nervous to touch my mum's tummy and feel my sister moving!

I think that also with the Christmas date that makes it slightly easier if you have DC who are old enough to know how long it is until Christmas.

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 10:53

I've got my first appointment this afternoon and am a bit (!!) nervous - I couldn't sleep at all last night and then this morning two magpies landed right in the tree directly outside my window. I'm not normally superstitious but I'm definitely taking that as a good luck charm/sign!

Thisisbonkers · 19/04/2016 11:02

kippers Grin it's a passing phase. It's going to do one by next week. It WILL. Please. I'm not good at feeling rough.

And many many good vibes for those who have previously had non-stickers. I hope this time round it goes swimmingly for you all.Flowers

kippersandcurtains · 19/04/2016 11:04

Thanks bertie, that's good advice. I think my two would enjoy the fruit/seed comparisons too (though youngest might get confused and think I was growing one!).
I think I'll wait until after the 12 week scan. I can guarantee a noticeable bump by then (waved goodbye to my stomach muscles years ago) and at least we will have had a chance to tell family/friends. Otherwise I fear DS1 would simply broadcast it around school and it'd be on FB within the day!
Good luck with your appt. I had my booking in appt yesterday - got to get into practise wee-ing into tiny pots again. Two magpies is definitely auspicious Smile

kippersandcurtains · 19/04/2016 11:04

bonkers yours can if mine does. Is that a deal?

Thisisbonkers · 19/04/2016 11:08

Done!

BertieBotts · 19/04/2016 11:12

Yep I think DS has already told one of his school friends whose mum had a baby last year Grin Oops. Oh well. Friend also has a big age gap with his sister so I can understand him wanting to share. Whether he'll relate that to his mum... who knows! I get the impression that she doesn't socialise much with the other parents so perhaps it will stay quiet.
