December 2016... Babies

1002 replies

Penguinepenguins · 21/03/2016 18:30

Doesn't seem to be a thread yet for babies due in December, possibly because I'm crazy and POAS really really early but a line is a line and today was my "double check" second day and a BFP it was again!

I sadly had a miscarriage in November found the July babies thread a huge help in my early days of pregnancy and the ladies were very supportive after the MC - I've just returned to mumsnet under a new name as I was finding it a bit painful at one point and went a bit cold turkey from it all!

So here is a bit about me

I'm 38
This will be baby number one for me
EDD 3rd December (know when I ovulated been using the monitor - the app ok many apps I've consulted this morning confirm this as the date

Very nervous after last time but want to enjoy every minute I can, I loved being pregnant before and want to do all the same things as before just keeping everything crossed for a sticky one.

Who is ready to join me Smile

I'm playing it all very much by ear this time. We'll have an early scan if we feel like one but at the moment I'm not really feeling the need. Last time I really wanted one. This time not so much despite the fact that DC1's problems were infact apparent as early as 6 weeks just not recognised.

Infact what is everyone thinking about screening. I'm not sure what to go for this time. Pay for non invasive (Harmony etc) or not.

I am suddenly getting lots of symptoms, nausea, exhaustion, needing to pee all the time, sore boobs. Last pregnancy was so easy and at this stage symptom free. I'm only 4+5, not sure why all these symptoms, hopefully a good sign.

MrsJoJo · 07/04/2016 21:14

Congrats to all you newbies!

Life just gets crazier here: got my bfp on Good Friday, DP proposed on Easter Saturday with a beautiful ring he'd collected before he even had an inkling I might be expecting!

Our bathroom has been undergoing renovations for the past 3 weeks and we sold our house on Tuesday and had an offer accepted on one we didn't expect to get as their buyer dropped out. It's all fab news but a complete renovation job (we've budgeted for all this and will stay with my parents). Builder estimates 8-12 weeks before we can move in so let's hope the sale goes through ASAP!

Told my best friend all this yesterday and she is thrilled but thinks I'm crazy, just told my manager everything today who is also thrilled and utterly supportive! So, I might be crazy & mad but must be doing something right... Let's hope it means I'll have a positive albeit tiring & manic pregnancy!!

Azure83 · 07/04/2016 23:27

Wow jojo, looks like everything is happening at once! In a good way obviously!

We have decided to go for Harmony once the dating scan is done (31st of May!). Mostly because of DHs age but also for a piece of mind. A friend of mine had it done and apparently the scan is much more detailed as well.

Dunlin1987 · 07/04/2016 23:31

Did you all have to wait for your booking appointments to get your dating scans? I have had nothing yet. Not even my booking appointment!!

TipBoov · 08/04/2016 07:40

Yes my booking appt is mid-may when I'm 12 weeks, and they'll arrange my scan at the booking appt for 13-14 weeks. I'm worried that this is really late.

Feefeefs · 08/04/2016 08:00

I'm only to get an early scan DH is on board. I think it'll help it feel more real plus I may have to tell a couple of people just before the 12 week scan as going to a hen weekend! Obv can't drink and it will be easier if people guess that I've seen something I think. It's only £40 where we are and when I think of all the money I've spent on POAS it seems like nothing!

Dunlin1987 · 08/04/2016 08:14

£40 is a bargain! I can only seem to find places for £80 in my area. Will have to wait till pay day I think! Shocked I have not had an early scan though as I was on fertility drugs and I have been reading lots of articles on early scans that state they usually give them for fertility drug users too :(

SolomanDaisy · 08/04/2016 08:53

I'd definitely be interested in the Harmony test if I was in the UK, cos of my age. There's an equivalent test here, but it's being run as a national trial and you can only be referred if you get 1 in 200 or lower on the triple test. There's no option to pay privately.

Tip, if you want to have the nuchal test, I think 14 weeks would be too late. Do they not offer that in your area?

SouthDownsSunshine · 08/04/2016 09:26

Wow, triple congratulations jojo!

I'm going have basic testing, the nuchal fold and bloods. I don't think I'll have anything further unless it's needed.

I have a family history of twins. Hmm But it's definitely not something I'd be hoping for to be honest! I'm already panicking about coping with one newborn and a toddler. Trying to cope with two newborns and a toddler just seems impossible. Plus we only live in a two-bed semi so I'd have no idea where I'd put 3 children!

Re: trips abroad. I went to America when pregnant with DD (I think I was 14-16 weeks) and it was fine. Plus (surprisingly) it made no difference to my travel insurance premiums. I'd try and stick with any planned trips if possible, because it's so much harder to travel with babies / small children. If it clashes with scan dates etc maybe talk to the midwives to see if they can accommodate an earlier or later scan?

MrsJoJo that's a crazy busy few months you've got coming up! Congrats on the engagement and house!

I have considered an early scan, but a bit like what KippersandCurtains says I think I'd be reassured for about a day or two and then just get anxious again. It's a bit like with my obsessive POAS. I'm reassured straight after getting a positive then a day or two later I get anxious again and need to check the line is still there and getting stronger again.

We had the nuchal test last time and will do so again this time. We probably won't get any extra tests like the Harmony unless the nuchal test shows anything concerning.

Got a call yesterday morning and have my booking appointment for next Friday when I'll be 7 weeks. Grin It's at 8.15am though, and I'm work until 10pm the previous day, so knowing I'll have to get up at about 6am to get me and DD ready to leave the house is a bit rubbish. Have also got to try and keep DD entertained for an hour or two whilst there.

kippersandcurtains · 08/04/2016 10:16

I looked into the Harmony test but it is terribly expensive! For now I am opting for the usual NHS ones (nuchal fold and bloods). I have been lucky with two previous healthy pregnancies so I no experiences to heighten my nervousness, though I will be an 'elderly multigravida' or whatever the horrendous expression is! I am 37 - will be 38 when baby is due, though DH is 43 - azure is your DH a similar age?

Thanks for updating stats kitkat. My due date at present is 3/12.

Told my parents yesterday. They live alongside us so it was rather necessary. Happy response, if a little surprised! We had a short gap between our first two boys (16 months) and we are now in a relatively easy phase (boys play well together/sleep all night/potty trained/at preschool etc) - I think my folks thought we'd be adverse to starting all over again!

Theaks · 08/04/2016 10:26

Just got back from a early scan. So far so good. I appear to be 5.4 so a little behind what I thought. But saw a strong flicker of heartbeat. Going through to the GP now to book first midwife appointment. Set my mind at rest for now.

DartmoorDoughnut · 08/04/2016 10:34

Phones the midwives this morning so should have a booking in appt sorted in the next couple of weeks. Does anyone have any experience of getting an ELCS?

SouthDownsSunshine · 08/04/2016 11:27

Great news Theaks :)

Dartmoor - I'll be asking for an ELCS - had a difficult birth last time. The midwife assumed I'd be having one when I spoke to her for the booking in appoiuntment! I was expecting to have to put up a fight... I'm not 100% sure of my decision, and if this pregnancy continues ok I'll get some counselling to deal with my concerns, but I want to ask from the start so it's on the system and it's not another worry.

After awful sickness yesterday evening and last night, I went shopping this morning...popchips, salty crostini and green grapes! Not the healthy balanced diet I had wanted but I'm being that point.

Popskipiekin · 08/04/2016 11:45

Hello everyone, congratulations!! Can I join in too please - EDD (by my calculations) should be 12th Dec but I haven't had booking or anything yet. DC2, we had been trying for most of a year and thought to skip out this month to avoid Christmas maybe, but I thought what the heck, let's go for it, and here we are! So happy.

I had quite a few early scans in my last pregnancy due to bleeding compounded by total first time anxiety. Have already had some slight bleeding this time too but going to leave off for now.

Fx for us all having lovely healthy sticky beans.

Devgal · 08/04/2016 11:56

Hi everyone, sorry I have been awol lately! I have had a horrid chest infection this week so been feeling rather sorry for myself.
I am 5+6 today, but feeling like time is literally standing still!! I have my booking in appointment 19th April which is good as that doesn't seem too long away, but it is going to feel like AGES until the dating scan. I have been skimming through a few posts here and saw dunlins post about early scans on fertility meds. I have been on Metformin for PCOS (not sure if that counts), but are you doing to ask your MW or GP about it?

MrsJoJo · 08/04/2016 12:19

Thanks for the congrats ladies!

My booking appt is on 3 May, I'm waiting on my scan date. Feeling a bit better today after a few green days, although really tired so I am hoping for an early night!

Got to work tomorrow but my manager is insisting I take a whole day in liew which means I can do mortgage apps without worrying. Lucky to have such great employers!

DartmoorDoughnut · 08/04/2016 12:24

Ditto SouthDowns ended in an EMCS for me last time so keen to avoid the drama and go straight to the main event this time around! Will have to wait and see what they say at booking appt but hoping I won't have to fight for it!

underrugsswept · 08/04/2016 12:42

Hello! I've just had a BFP after 5 months of TTC#2. Very excited and hoping it stays in there Smile. EDD is 16th Dec as far as I know. I'm 4 weeks today... very, very early days yet.

December 2016... Babies
Nuttypops · 08/04/2016 12:46

Congratulations to all the new December additions! I wonder how many are going to be Christmas babies?

No booking in app or scan dates here yet, I have to see the nurse first for some reason which seems like a waste of time but that is this afternoon so hopefully I can get other dates sorted then. I am sure the wait didn't seem this long with my previous pregnancy, but I had an early scan at the EPU at 6+4 because of bleeding and was lucky enough to see the heartbeat then so the next scan didn't seem such a long wait. Friends who are a few months/weeks ahead of me here are having hassles getting appointments for scans within the dates for NT testing so if we have problems with that we will look at a private scan but otherwise unlikely to.

Dunlin1987 · 08/04/2016 12:48

Devgal where you on the PCOS thread? I recognise your name. Yes I am going to mention it to the midwife at my appointment. I never had any scans even whilst taken clomid. Have a strong feeling it is a multiple pregnancy!

Helbelle75 · 08/04/2016 13:03

Hi! Can I join you?! We've only been TTC since January and got a BFP on DH's birthday on Tuesday. We're late bloomers (40 and 42) - we only got married in September and this is the first pregnancy for both of us. To say we're excited is an understatement! Fingers crossed everything goes to plan. I'm not that worried about being older as I am extremely fit and healthy, but there are always a few doubts.
I'm seeing the doctor this afternoon and can't wait to get that bit out of the way.
Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Brisgirl · 08/04/2016 13:05

Hi everyone! Can I join you? Just got my BFP this morning when I realised that AF should have arrived a few days ago.
I'm 28 and this is DC2. DC1 has just turned 1 (eek!) and we were sort of thinking about trying for the next one when this happened. Had my implant out in February and no proper cycle so knew this could happen but didn't think it would so quickly so this is all a bit earlier than expected! I think my EDD is the 13th Dec.
We are delighted and still in shock and I am obviously starting to worry already about sharp twinges etc. and feel like I will be on constant knicker watch for the next few months. Never had any first tri symptoms with DS1 so not sure what this time round will hold! Will probably tell both sides of family next week or so as we're very close and would tell them/want support if anything went wrong. Told them straight away last time as well and it was lovely.
Congratulations to everyone else and here's hoping for nice, easy pregnancies for us all!!

SouthDownsSunshine · 08/04/2016 15:51

So many newbies! Congrats and welcome Grin

Devgal · 08/04/2016 15:55

Hi Dunlin - Yes I was briefly! Midwife suggested I continue taking Metformin for first 12 weeks (as she actually has the same dilemma herself) so I am wondering whether she may suggest an early scan anyway. I am torn as to whether I want one. I obviously do but I also think it would probably be better to wait if she is not concerned (ie not having a private one). Well that is the thing with Clomid!! When if your mw appointment?
