Anyone else contemplating which pushchair to get? Have DS who is 5 so not part of the pushchair equation, DD who is 2.5 and who will start pre-school in September at just 3 and can't see her doing the school run twice a day. Don't want a buggy board or the like as had one last time and constantly kicking it as I walked totally did my head in!

Problem is only going to use it for 18 months max so don't want to spend loads

liatHoHoHo · 28/12/2006 08:00

WCL, I was going to go for the baby in sling, dd in buggy combo at first then maybe get a double stroller as they seem to be cheaper than double buggies. I used a sling a lot with dd but think I might treat myself to an ergo as she got a bit heavy for the baby bjorn.

Hopefully off to the zoo today, weather permitting. My mum is coming up to dilute the MIL effect. MIL lucky to be alive, I nearly garotted her 2 nights ago when she insulted my cooking on top of everything else. However she behaved yesterday so she's off the hook for now......6 days to go.

Maveta, fingers crossed your cat comes back. One of my sister's did a bunk a while ago and had gone for ages then just turned up again.

AndAKaty44InAPearTree · 28/12/2006 08:21

Morning everyone, glad everyone's had a good Christmas. Have to say, I quite like it when everything gets back to normal as well!!
Maveta, hope your cat comes back
Is it possible someone else has been feeding her sneakily and she'll come back when she gets sick of them?

maveta · 28/12/2006 09:32

Thanks for the kind words re. my cat girls.. it is very possible that someone is feeding him. I am not convinced as here in Spain people are not known for being animal lovers but the people we asked on our wanders around the village seemed nice enough about it and although there are tons of stray cats you do get people that feed them.
We haven´t seen him dead anywhere and if that had happened it almost definitely would have been by being run over so probably hard to miss and the police said they had not had to collect any dead cats recently so that´s kind of positive.
The thing is he doesn´t wear a collar as he was not an outdoor cat but I would imagine he looks like a kept cat. Maybe someone has just kept him, which is my favourite option to be honest, as long as they are nice to him.
About pushchairs, luckily we are being given a bugaboo cameleon by my SIL and this is our first so we are pretty set. Was quite a stroke of luck she offered it to us as they are damn expensive!

Sexonreindeerlegs · 28/12/2006 10:11

Morning all. We are wondering about pushchairs too. Dd is 3.6 so her one isn't old, but it was so heavy and really not practical, so dh has agreed we need something else this time around. Think am just going to go to Mothercare and have a play around and see. We don't want to spend a fortune either as this will be the last lo!
Liath, we are thinking of the zoo today too!

Hope everyone is well.

Love and hugs xx

HollyandMistletoeforever · 28/12/2006 11:56

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and that Maveta's cat comes back. We have "lost" many cats over the years and persistence really does pay off with regard to getting them back - it has taken us up to 2 months on one occasion!. Keep looking and asking!

Saw mw today for my MATB1. Baby appears to be fine but she is a little on the small side which is worrying for me as I have had one each of 9lbs and 10lbs but this is my first girl so maybe all bets are off? Also not the most active baby so I think I will be on here a lot airing my worries and looking for reassurance! At least mw appts are every 3 weeks now and then every 2.

Back soon for New Year's!

mistletoejo · 28/12/2006 13:21

Hi all. Havent been around for weeks but hope everyone is doing ok. Maveta, really hope your cat comes back soon.
Hope you all had a lovely christmas. mine was fab, ds had a wonderful time (forgot how knackering it all was though)!
May not pop back for a while, just seem to be so busy at the mo, especially with ds off school for the holidays.

Happy New Year to everyone. I have to say that after the new year comes it really isnt that many weeks til we are all due is it - scary thought!!

GoodKingWestCountryLass · 28/12/2006 14:24

I will also use a sling but with DS walking and DD in buggy and the baby I am not sure it is the safest option doing school run as lots of traffic etc. Also, I live at the top of a steep hill and doing that walk with baby in sling twice a day will be a killer what with pushing buggy as well (DD was 22lbs at 5 months!). But thanks for suggestions!

Think I might go for Graco twin pushchair as only £130 so won't break the bank, though not the most stylish of vehicles....

EmmymummyChristmasPudTummy · 28/12/2006 15:21

Yvie - re. bank holidays coinciding with mat leave, when I was on mat leave with dd I got all my bank holidays back and added them onto the end. I don't know if that is just my company's policy, but I don't see why we should 'miss' out on bank hols just cos we're on mat leave. I shall certainly be claiming all my bank hols back again this time .

Having a bad day today as dd is ill with an ear infection. She has been up in the night for the last 2 nights and is now laying on the sofa feeling sorry for herself. She's got some anti-biotics now so hopefully they will kick in soon. Am just a bit (selfishly I know) peeved as she was supposed to be going to her grandparents for the night tonight & tomorrow, giving me some much needed time to myself, and now she can't go. Long story but the run-up to Christmas and Christmas itself have been very stressful, so I was so looking forward to a child-free night and day. And to top things off, got my payslip this morning and my tax code has been changed so that I'm now paying more then £70 per month more tax. How the f**k has that happened?

Rudolphthereddasnosedreindeer · 28/12/2006 16:13

emmymummy, sorry to hear dd not well. Thought I might be able to help with the tax code thing, not being nosey just i'm an accountant. Even if it's right at least you'd know. Let me know if I can help

Sexonreindeerlegs · 28/12/2006 16:36

Hi Emmmymummy, sorry to hear your dd isn't well. Hope the anti biotics kick in soon. We have had a few disturbed nights with our dd too, and last night was the first night since the day before xmas eve that was a quiet one - in fact she slept until 7.45 a.m. - lovely.
Can your dd go to her grandparents another night?

Hope everyone else is well.

Gearing up again for more visitors, but they are not here until Sat night, so have plenty of time to prepare thank God. I am looking forward to getting back to normal I have to say!

Cannot believe what I am seeing on CBeebies. It is Come Outside and it is all about poo! I feel quite unwell!

doginsantasgrotto · 28/12/2006 18:10

Hi everyone
Have been home for Christmas since middle of last week and my Mum's internet was down so just popping in to say hello, hope you all had a happy Christmas and here's to an exciting and definitely 'eventful' 2007 for us all! Can you believe how far we have come and how close we are now?! Being one of the early April-ers, I am now in my 28th week I think! Yikes!

Anyway, enjoy the rest of the festivities and I look forward to us all getting back to our normal MN routine in the near future

SparklySnowflakeKid · 28/12/2006 18:44

Hello everyone - have been to Studland and Swanage today - long drive but really lovely - lots of sandcastles and holes dug - fish & chips for lunch and now vegging out with ice cream

I had a double nipper with ds1 and 2 - they were 22 months apart - quite big but really light. Great in the cuontryside and on beach. I have bought a mamas and papas 3 in 1 off ebay for £50 - so am sorted really - but think that the Maclaren Techno is a great smaller pushchair and pretty reasonable price too - lots of bargains around at the moment too. In terms of slings I have an ellaroo deluxe but am thinking of getting a kind of ring sling/huggababy thing for the school run so can just whip him out of carseat and into sling with no tying etc. There seem to be loads of slings around these days - I struggled with the baby bjorn after a couple of months too as ds2 was so heavy. The Ellaroo can be used on your back aswell and am hoping with a cloth sling can sit on hip when get a bit bigger.

Off for bath now - spd very sore after day out.

One baby item I would recommend is a lambskin for the pushcahir/carrycot etc - so soft and snuggly in summer and winter.

Has anyone tried nature babies stuffable nappies? Have been looking at getting them for size 2 as have all my small nappies. Also there seem to be two styles of nb stuffables - the older design with a gusset and new design without - any reason why???

Happy new year to everyone - quiet one here - unlikely to make it to midnight!

Sexonreindeerlegs · 29/12/2006 11:01

SSK, your day sounded lovely! I love Swanage.
How is everyone? I feel rough today, as if I am coming down with a cold - feel really cotton-wool headed and really tired, even though slept until 8.00! Dd didn't wake up until 8.30!

Just wanted to get your views on something if I may.

Dh's parents gave him a large framed photo of himself and dd for xmas. I thought it a bit strange that it was just the 2 of them. Am I being oversensitive???

HollyandMistletoeforever · 29/12/2006 13:04

Hi SORL - I think I would feel a bit odd too, IFYSWIM. I guess the key is, what is your usual relationship like with them? If its not as good as it could be, then probably yes, I would feel put out, and would have a go too (knowing me...) but if you get on pretty well as a whole, chances are they are secure enough in their relationship with you not to even have thought of that side of things when they did the photo and all is well.

What a long sentence !

Sexonreindeerlegs · 29/12/2006 13:44

Hiya, our relationship is ok, but not the best, so hence my feeling of being excluded. I just thought it strange and I know my parents would never give me a picture of just me and dd fully blown up and framed. It is A3 sized ffs!!

I can just hear the pil's saying look at our lovely son and granddaughter - they are very in to ownership - our son and our granddaughter which I hate!!! Oh dear I am off on a rant!!!

Better go before it gets messy! x

Rudolphthereddasnosedreindeer · 29/12/2006 15:03

SORL, i'd be a bit peeved if it was my dh and dd and not me, but on the otherhand maybe they didn't have one of all 3 of you?

Families, they can be great or just plain crappy. Probably the best option is to think that they just did not think before doing it? My step mother is so stuck up her own butt don't think she knows anyone else is about and is in no hurry to think about anyone but me me and me!! I mean, who but her would expect a 2 1/2 year old to eat at 6 an be in bed at 7. And serve bloody ham, salad, and some crappy looking crab paste shite??!!That's another story and one I could rant on about for ages

we1becomes3kings · 29/12/2006 16:16

Hi ladies just popping in quickly to say Hi happy belated xmas and hope you all have a great new year. I won't be around till after the new year as DH has cut through the cable that pipes in our broad band and ntl can't (more like won't) come fix it till after the new year GRRRRR, so have to use my mums computer.

LOL and hugs

ChillyTiliTinsel · 29/12/2006 17:09

hi everyone.
Hope you all had a wonderful christmas. Our christmas was great I just love watching dd's face as she opens everything its just priceless. To think next time I will have a little 8 month old boy is still a bit surreal at the moment.
Anyway better go and eat and I suppose dd will want something to she has become obsessed with crisp butties!!! dont know where shes got that from

If I dont get chance to post again Happy new year to you all.Heres to a happy healthy 2007 for all and our families xxx

SparklySnowflakeKid · 29/12/2006 19:09

SORL - we must have the same PILs - dh parents regularly send photos etc just of dh and boys - definitely about son/grandsons thing - to be honest I just don't care - they annoy me so much would rather not be included - they are coming tomorrow with photos. I don't think that they have ever even offered to take a photo of all four of us - maybe we could do that tomorrow (evil snort!) In fact I can't actually remember the last time they visited or stayed - they get the message from me loud and clear!

YvieEinaChristmasCracker · 29/12/2006 21:01

EmmyMummy thanks for the advice, i'm going to speak to my HR advisor when i go back next week as the policy is so crap. Sorry to hear about DD hopes she gets better soon.

SORL - when i read your post about the PILs i was peeved off for you, did you get a seperate present from them?

YvieEinaChristmasCracker · 29/12/2006 21:02

Ladies - have a wonderful new year and see you in 2007.

Sexonreindeerlegs · 29/12/2006 21:55

They did get me a separate present, and it was a good one, so I cannot complain. I just thought it odd that they give dh a picture of him and dd only iyswim. xx

liath · 30/12/2006 08:40

SOL we gave MIL a framed photo of just dd and dh! Although it was a nice snap and we didn't really have any good one of the three of us. Agree it's a bit off of your PILs.

What's everyone's plans for New Years? We're off to stay at my parent's house with a couple of friends & my sister & her Dh and we're each going to cook a course. Sadly no escaping MIL but there'll be plenty people to dilute her. I'm going to stay down an extra day as this'll be the last time I see my middle sister who's up from London before she has her baby. I'll come back on tuesday then MIL finally f*cks off on wednesday, hooray!

maveta · 30/12/2006 09:10

morning chicas, all getting down to New Year preparations now? What are the plans?
I think we are going to pop by a friends party to see the New Year in but can't imagine I will have the energy or desire to stay much later. Totally not bothered about it though, right now the place I am happiest is bang in the middle of my sofa!!
Starting to feel quite pregnant now, ifkwim, obviously I HAVE been for a few months now but I've been so lucky with not feeling any real symptoms as such. I still am very very lucky but starting to notice slight backache on one side, am sleeping more restlessly and getting the occasional braxton hicks. And of course the wee one is moving all the time which is fabulous.
How is everyone else getting on?
