Morning everyone - I am feeling really unsettled at the moment - no particular reason - just don't feel at ease - anyone else? Struggling to get to sleep as a result which is a real nightmare - I love my sleep!

We are staying in for new year - having some nice food and probably be fast asleep by midnight...zzzzzzzzz

My mum fell over yesterday and knocked herself out - my sister said she didn't know where she was/what was going on or who anyone was for about 1/2 hour - they called an ambulance and the paramedics stayed with her for 2 hours - they kept checking her, making sure she stayed awake etc. Really shook me up as she has been quite poorly over the last year - has had a stroke/angina/diabetes/depression etc so quite worrying. I spoke to her last night on the phone and she seemed fine - so will send some flowers on tuesday when everything opens again. She is 70 next year and lives down in Devon - think it is time they moved a bit closer to family again so we can be around if they need us and they get to see their grandsons more often.

Sexonreindeerlegs · 30/12/2006 10:11

Morning all. SSK, sorry to hear about your mum - how frightening for her - and you.

Hi Maveta, good to see you again.

All ok here, although dd was awake in the night with bloody ear ache - there is always something! So, all knackered today. And we have people coming tonight for the New Year. I just want to crash on the sofa!

Better go as dd is pestering me!

xx

muminaminimincepie · 30/12/2006 10:22

Hello ladies and bumps...(or mini mountains as mine seems to be after all the xmas festivities!!!)

SSFK - really sorry to hear about your Mum - what a worry, it's so gard when they are further away as well. Your description of your Xmas day sounded nearly identical to mine. We had a wonderfu day - DS was so excited - ripping all the prezzies open with gusto this year...not really caring what was in them! lol His favourite was a toy "Binano" or Piano and a microphone which he prompltly started using to sing along to his Lazytown CD - or xmas morning DVD is priceless - can't wait to bring it out on his 18th birthday ! he he he.

We were all totally spoiled, rellies popped round with more prezzies and DH made the scrummiest xmas meal for the two of us. It was relaxing yet exhausting! We did it all again on Boxing Day at MIL's where the amount of presents was OBSCENE but all the family and friends were there for a Buffet and it was so nice to see my best friend who had come up to visit us (she lives in Devon). I was very emotional as I miss her like mad and I am going to miss her wedding as it is on 14th April and I don't think I can take the chance of trekking down to Wales when I am due on 20th plus I think it highly likely that as I am having an elective c section I will be given a date of Friday 13th!!!

The rest of the week has been a bit lazy as DS developed a really bad cold which went onto his chest and so we ended up at the drs with him and he too is on antibiotics - my lovley Mum had him to stay last night so that DH and I coud get a bit of a rest so we went out for a pub meal and had a nice long lie this morning. I get him back at about 1pm.

Supposed to be spending New Year with some friends with their kids, I wa really up for it as normally we sit in and I don't really like New Year as I always feel everyon eis having more fun than me! But DH has decreed that it will be a late night for DS and may knock him back after being porrly so we can't go...fine I suppose but I am the one who has to ring my friend and let her down so not looking forward to doing that today!

Maveta - I was so sad to hear about your cat - don't give up hope love - cats are so independent, even house cats and I would not be at all surprised if he surprises you and just turns up - certainly hope thats the case.

Laith - you have made me laugh re your MIL, hope it is bearable today!

SOL - I would feel just like you regarding the picture thing - if they didn't have a nice pic of all three of you then they shouldn't bother or as my MIL did got one of DS and DH and one of me and DH together as they didn't have one with all three of us together (that was when we got married).

Baby is kicking alot now and wriggling - it is so reassuring. DH and I go to see the consultant on Tuesday morning to discuss"The Plan" so will let you all know how I get on.

Have a fantastic New Year girls - it's going to fly by till March now - just you watch!!!

Much Love
MIAM 24+1

muminaminimincepie · 30/12/2006 10:28

SORL

Oh no - it's a nightmare....my DS has driven me mad...

He has got wise to "sympathy" and all I have heard fro the past 3 dys is "Mummy I not very weeeeeelllll" in the most pathetic little voice. Of course at first it was sweet...but then it grates after a while! lol
He is so clingy when he ispoorly and all he has wanted to do is lie on me on the sofa. I find it quite claustrophobic after a few days and it really started to make me worry about what will happen if this happens when the baby comes etc? Also - what will it be like staying at home and not getting our break from each other when I go to work. I feel really bad for even thinking it but I can't help but worry a bit.

I love my time with DS because I also enjoy my time away from him, my mum has been brilliant as I told her how I was feeling and she has said she will still look after DS on the Thurs and Friday mornings like she does when I am at work so at least I wil get some time just on my own with new baby too...I will then have to have some just me and DS time!

Anyone else worried about this - those who are having number 3 - what was it like when No 2 came along? How did you cope!!! lol

BigBellyCornflakeKid · 30/12/2006 14:25

I am trying to change my name - see if it works!

Katy44 · 30/12/2006 14:41

Hi everyone,
SSK, sorry to hear about your mum's fall. Glad she sounded better when you talked on the phone.
We've just been out for a short walk and just as we were setting off to come back it started to absolutely pour down! I was soaked by the time we got home!!

runnyhabbitdashingthruthesnow · 30/12/2006 20:07

Hi everyone

Seasons Greetings to you all
We had a lovely Christmas and ds was thoroughly spoilt

Maveta - I'm sure your cat will turn up soon. We have 2, and one of them never seems to eat at home. Convinced that he has his meals elsewhere.

SSK - hope your mum is on the mend.

SOL - mil do not think! mine has got this string stuff across the her chimney breast, with little pegs holding photos on it. pictures of all her children, grandchildren, sons/daughter inlaws - apart from me! dh wound her up a bit and asked why she didn't like me (we get on really well)! next time we visited, there was a photo of me there, and she apologised!

We have been invited to friends for New Year, and they all have lo, so quite looking forward to it.

Ds now thinks he is very grown up, becuase we converted his cot to a bed. Tbh, I was struggling to get him in and out of the cot. He loves it! We have had to put a safety gate across his doorway, just to stop him from coming into our room in the morning!

Had a bit of a panic Saturday before Christmas. Was having very strong braxton hicks, every 20 mins or so for about 2 hours! Dh stressed out a bit, and wanted to call mw/ambulance/hospital. But I felt really really calm. The only way I can describe it was my body knew the baby wasn't really coming iykwim. Mum seems to think it was my bodys way of telling me to slow down. Took her advice, and I don't think I've lifted a finger around the house since

take care all

xx

maveta · 31/12/2006 10:23

Ooooowww..have woken up with a stinker of a cold sore on my lip. Searched the net to see if I can use Zovirax and the consensus seems to be 'only if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the baby' which I am taking to mean NO.
Can anyone suggest an alternative, I know it's just going to get bigger and more painful if I don't do anything...

maveta · 31/12/2006 10:41

the stats thread..ready to continue being updated..

Katy44 · 31/12/2006 11:06

Oh maveta that sounds painful. Is it worth ringing your mw and asking? It sounds as though there is treatment available - here

Hollyhormone · 31/12/2006 12:14

Maveta - sorry to hear about your cat .
For your cold sore have you tried a sterile wipe? The alcohol wipes (not the antispetic wipes) that nurses use to sterilise the skin before the do injections are meant to be very good for cold sores. Chemists stock them or some First aid kits if you have one in your house. They will help to dry it out more quickly, good luck!
SSK, hope that your mum is well on the mend now, what a fright you must have got you poor thing.
Runnyhabit, sounded like you did needed to slow down a bit, its hard with other LOs though especially at this time of year.

Well ladies wishing you all a very Happy Hogmanay and look forward to our exciting 2007 - CHEERS!

Katy44 · 31/12/2006 12:30

Don't know why this has popped into my head but the next AN thread to appear will be the September 2007 one - that's AUTUMN 2007
Makes you realise how close we really are!

BigBellyCornflakeKid · 31/12/2006 15:40

Hello - went into Bath to shops first thing and got some of the stuff left on my baby list - managed to get some new bras which was desperate for - the ones I had bought a couple of months ago almost cut me in half! They are nursing ones so should be fine for afterwards aswell. Also got

changing mat
bath seat
3 footless romper suits
a noonoo (luxury item )
skip hop changing bag (1/2 price in blooming marv)

Still need to get

sleepsuits
sheets
nappy bucket, mesh, waterproof bag, washable wipes
curtains or blind

Phew - may go to John Lewis on Thursday - don't think will be up to shopping for much longer - am completely knackered after just 2 hours this morning and that included a latte/chococalte twist stop in Costa! Could do online but like to feel what the stuff feels like Once have that stuff when have time to myself can just chill out, read books, watch tv etc.

Dh is supposed to have painted nursery while off over christmas.... No rush for that but time is starting to fly by...

BigBellyCornflakeKid · 31/12/2006 15:43

Cold sore sounds painful - never had them so can't offer any advice.

I have roast dinner down the front of my t-shirt - does anyone else seem prone to 'catching' food on bump?

mistletoejo · 31/12/2006 16:51

Sorry to sound thick, but what is a noonoo. The only one I know is the hoover off Teletubbies!!
Hope everyone is well. Quiet night in for me tonight with hubby and ds. I am making us a thai red curry with noodles for supper and will probably end up not making it to midnight!
My belly is enormous. It seems to have gone mad over the last few weeks. Ds was 8lb 11oz born so I am hoping to not have an even bigger one this time - dont think my nethers could cope!

Happy New Year everyone!!

Eddas · 31/12/2006 18:03

Happy new year everyone We're not bothering trying to go out tonight, just cannot face it. So we're staying in and cooking fajitas, mmmm

I've started a thread called' what can we call our bean????' If you don't mind sharing please pop in there and help us with the names It's all coming along a bit quickly and we have a list of about two names and i'm not overly keen on any of them. Thanks

weewishyouamerryonion · 31/12/2006 18:18

hey folks - happy new year!!
a little bit early but i hope you have a great one! we are heading out to a friends house for a quiet night, i might not even make it to midnight!

There is a full gale blowing up here so i feel sory for all those who were planning on being out on the streets of glasgow or edinburgh!!

here's to a fab 2007 for us all - an exciting few months ahead. The bump has gotten HUGE over the festive season....

Katy44 · 01/01/2007 10:05

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
:D :D :D :D

Here's to a happy and healthy 2007 for all of us and our families.
Speaking of which, why do I feel hungover? urgh
Weeonion - snap about the bump growing over Christmas and New Year - I've gone from being 'normal' with a bit of a tummy (which I had anyway!) to being definitely pregnant!

Katy44 · 01/01/2007 10:05

Any New Year's resolutions?

doginsantasgrotto · 01/01/2007 10:39

Happy new year everyone. BBCK - I know exactly what you mean about shopping ... I did a 2 hour stint yesterday (which is nothing compared to my usual standards!) and all of a sudden had to quickly find somewhere to sit down before I fell down. Had stupidly forgotten to take something to munch on my way round and was so engrossed in finding bargains (2x nursing bras, a grobag and a pair of mat. trousers) that I forgot about my limitations. I am lucky that I am not that big but as a result I sometimes forget that I must take it a bit easier from now on.

Is anyone else panicking about what there is still to buy and organise? I can't believe how much a LO needs!! I guess it is always worse for first timers as we are starting from scratch.

Have to say though am getting really excited now and just can't wait for her to arrive.

Maveta - sorry to hear about your cat. I know what a worry pets can be and how much they can mean to you/your family.

Looking fwd to getting back to normal from tomorrow onwards. Have antenatal class pre-meeting on Thursday so feel like it is all happening now!

Have a good New year's Day everyone.

BigBellyCornflakeKid · 01/01/2007 10:48

Happy New Year!

Was tucked up nice and early but got woken by fireworks at midnight so I could say I saw the new year in!

A noonoo is a snuggle blanket thing - they have their own website if you google it - saw one yonks ago and decided to put it on luxury list! I am a shopaholic and listaholic so getting things ready for baby come quite naturally! With my first I did feel a little overwhelmed as to how much stuff there was and if I needed it. There was apost somewhere on mn recently about baby essentials but everyone is so different.

Quiet day today - am going to take down decorations - have been up since 2 December!

I carry a snack around with me now as the dizziness can hit me so quickly!

No resolutions here - dh says we need targets instead - mine is to save money rather than spend it!

Sexonreindeerlegs · 01/01/2007 13:20

Hi all, and Happy New Year!

We had some friends staying (with a 2 and 6 year old) so it has been mad here. Ate out a lot so not much cooking thank God, but still pretty exhausting. They have now gone and we can get back to normal - hurrah! We do have our next door neighbours coming for a drink and nibbles at 6.00, but only for a little while.

So, everyone ok?

I am feeling huge. I am all belly, as if I have a large ball up my top. Anyone else finding it hard to get knickers and socks on??!! Will have to go commando!!
Anyway, had better head as need to tidy up.

Here's to a wonderful new year for all of us, our families and beans.

Lots of love

glitterkitty · 01/01/2007 15:44

Happy New Year all!

Bad News: back to work tommorow , measured last night and I am 43-43-43: a barrel. Continual backache, and feet ache if I stand for any length of time over 30 mins.

Good news: only 8 weeks of work left , have negotiated 1 1/2 days a week off to do ante-natal yoga/swimming, and best of all SCAN on Weds! I must be the last one here! Can't wait to find out if pink or blue...

Love to all XXXXXX

AngeGabriel · 01/01/2007 18:12

Hi all

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Hope you all had good christmas' and new years.

Been so busy that haven't had time to post but have tried to keep up.

Got another scan on Wednesday to check the bean is growing properly.

Hope everyone is ok.

Love to you all xx

nuttygirl · 01/01/2007 21:14

Happy New Year everyone!

Have had a pretty good xmas & new year. DH & I went to my parents up in the Lake District. I helped mum out a lot with xmas dinner cos she had 12 to cook for (the most she's ever had as my aunt and 2 cousins came this year - uncle died earllier in the year so mum didn't want them to feel lonely). Got lots of nice pressies v impressed with DH cos he got me a baby & toddler cook book (love cook books!).

We had planned to go to a lovely Indian restaurant for NYE but when we got to my parents discovered it was a set menu (5 courses) and £30 pp. Wouldn't hve minded but it wasn't very nice menu and I really really wanted the tikka masala!!! Anyway they weren't serving their normal menu at all so we went to a pizza place instead and mum came too. Went to a hotel bar afterwards for a drink then home by 10!!! Stayed up til after midnight tho. Managed not to have too much to drink - 2 glasses of wine.

Ooh someone mentioned shopping my fave word. DH always says that I don't have the energy to go for a nice walk in the countryside but that I could walk round the shops forever!!! Funny thing is...it's true! Today was the first day I hven't been to the sales . Have bought lots of baby clothes, some maternity clothes, some normal clothes, kitchen stuff, b'day pressie for DH, new phones for house (we've been wnting them for a while) and other bits and bobs!!! Haven't finished yet....mum & dad gave us money to buy cot with (from dad's xmas bonus) so will be getting that soon.

Out of curiosity, would like opinions on the following (as mum seems to have different ideas to me!):

  1. Where do you bath your LO - i.e. which room of the house, and why?
  2. What time do/did/will you put newborn in cot upstairs in bedroom - e.g. at say 7pm or when you go to bed?
