Luckily no flying squirrels, frogs, monkeys, fruit bats or parrots have moved in yet - but sure it won't be long as the undergrowth gets denser. Must make note in diary to get it chopped before labour starts!

Hi all, good to see the thread is back to the usual 100 posts a day .

Dd went into her cot in her own room at 12 weeks, we just couldn't get any sleep with her in the room with us. I co-slept for the first 5 or 6 weeks though. She slept through from the first night she was in her own room & I think we'll try to get a routine going earlier this time.

Good to hear I'm not the only one with an out of control libido . As soon as MIL has buggered off DH won't know what's hit him (evil cackle). She's off tomorrow - hooray!

Spent New Year at home with my even more pregnant sisters so my bump looked quite wee in comparison. Youngest sister is due in 3 weeks and middle sister in March. My mum is already panicking gently !

MIAM, so glad you got a good consultant who was happy to go along with your preference!

Oh BBCFK your ladyrainforest made me smile this cold miserable morning!
Thanks for the advice re the lollipop advisor, I am going to give them a ring this morning as the more I look the more confused I get...I also think DH would get more involved if someone came round to show us. I think he just thinks I've gone mad and really cannot grasp why I am so set on trying to be a bit greener.

Laith - one more day to go eh!!! How long before her next visit? (not meaning to depress you further)..

I feel shattered today - I have one very active bump as soon as I get into bed for about half an hour and then when I get up to go to the loo it wakes bump again (probably giving it more room to start dancing again) and so can't get back to sleep again. Back to work this afternoon, thought of it is not nice but I will be fine once I get there.

Well duty calls, really must give our bathroom a good scrub, been surviving over the festive period on a quick wipe round with Flash Wipes and a squirt of loo cleaner but it really needs a good do....oh the joys...
Hope we hear from CD soon, I'm sure she will be like I was and have lost her connection or something.
MIAM 24+5

MIABT - my DH (who is an environmental scientist !) has said exactly the same thing - that if we get reusables he is not changing the baby, so let me know if you follow up with this lollypop thing. I am happy to take my time to a certain extent, as I plan to use disposables for those first newborn 3 months (shall we let the first-timers in on the joys of bright yellow poos all the way up the babies' backs??) and then hopefully I will be able to move on to reusables.

As for babies in rooms - don't get me started!!! Do you remember we were decorating DS2's room before Christmas? It is still nowhere near finished ! Which means he is still in with us. I just pointed out to DH that I would like a couple of months without a child in our bedroom before LO comes along! He has a deadline of the middle of Jan or else.... After that we will try to have LO in with us for as long as possible, although DS2 calls her "my baby" and is insisting that she share with him .....

Hi GBBUJ!

Well...I've just been on the Lollipop Website that CFK suggested and it looks good to me. I've filled out the enquiry thingy for them to contact me and I will let you know how I get on.
I will always remember when I was small and my little brother was born my Uncle changing my brothers nappy and as soon as he removed it he was hit full on the front of hios jumper by exploding yellow poo! funny the things you remember!!!

Mothercare catalogue has just arrived with post so off for a mooch!
Catch you later

Happy New Year to you all. Nice to finally have some time to read the messages and catch up. Have had a lovely if hectic 'festive' period - we had all 4 kids (DP's and mine) and I am shattered!

Echoing others the bump has expanded! It does drive me mad when people comment on how big I am already and predict a whopper of a baby! Like others it depends on what I have eaten and time of day. Plus at 5ft2 and short waisted I have nowhere for baby to go but out!

Looking at the needs / want list - in my experience I found disposable knickers great for the first 2 days in hospital! I had an emergency c-section and I found them great to rip off rather than bend down to take them off!!!! Also (sorry for tmi) with both babies I bled quite heavily for at least the first 24 hrs and I prefered disposing of the knickers until it was more under control than having a bag of very bloody kickers! Add plastic bags to your list for your dirty washing for DP to take home

For baby I have also found swaddling cloths wonderful in the first few weeks. It makes it easier to breastfeed as they are more contained and mine seemed to like the security, as well it prevented them flailing around and scratching themselves more than they needed to (scratch mitts are also great!) then they moved into grobags by about 4 - 6 weeks.

As for being in your room - mine were both for at least 6 months both times as we had no choice - we were in the process of moving and it seems this will be the same! They are a bit noisy but I found with bf it was easy - I pretty much rolled in and out of bed, grabbed baby fed in bed and put back - perfected it so I hardly woke up

I think we are in our third trimester from 27 weeks - gulp! It is rushing past now isn't it and I have to admit that having some time off from work has given me some space to get quite excited about it! The next 3 months are going to be rather frantic - we are doing up our house to sell and move / as I am self employed I have a lot to sort out to have that side taken care of and we still have the 4 kids to care for! Arrrh and finally on my birthday a couple of weeks ago DP proposed which was / is wonderful so now we have a summer wedding to plan too!

Better get off mumsnet and start organising myself then I guess!

Zazas - Congratulations!!!!!

But you are going to have a wedding this summer?? In between moving house, minding the 4 kids, oh and having a baby???

Why aren't you running the country???!!

Congratulations zazas!

Well, DH is driving MIL to the train station - HOORAY!!!!

All I need to do now is a mound of washing, clean the house and get some food in! So nice to have the place to myself and not feel obliged to make conversation and run round doing all the cooking/cleaning etc while MIL sits on her bottom reading a book.

zazas · 03/01/2007 11:27

Yep it all feels a bit mad!!!! I have today off work with the kids then it is back into it tomorrow.... Honestly trying not to stress about it as in the end what will get done will and what won't wont It is mostly the work that is bothering me as DP and I have our own company that is growing a bit too fast and I am heavily relied on - I can see I will be delivering the baby and back into work within 24 hours if we don't figure something out! Taking a deep breath....

LOL at running the country - I have a rather relaxed style at times and a 'kiwi' attitude to life - would be interesting to say the least!

Liath - congrate on surviving the visit!! And Zazas - congrats on the wedding!! How exciting.

Nice to see we are back in full-on chat mode! I love some of these lists - I feel fairly clued up about what to get for the baby (and we have most of it anyway), but had totally forgotten that I'd also need things for me! Will definitely lay in supplies of lipsalve and a sippy water bottle - I remember the gas and air really drying me out last time.

Katy44 - most of your questions have been comprehensively answered, but I just wanted to say that last time we didn't have a stand for the moses basket - just put it on a sturdy cardboard box beside the bed. They can stay in the moses basket for about 3 months, but after that you'll probably want to move them to the cot, whether in your room or in theirs.

As DD was born prem at 33 weeks, I'll probably try and get most things organised before that point this time. I know what you mean about being superstitious, but I think there's a point around 28 weeks when you realise that it could actually be born at this point, and probably be okay. Given my history, I will probably pack a hospital bag at about 32 weeks, although it's amazing how much of the right stuff we managed to pack in 5 mins last time! The hospital will also help you out if you don't have stuff - maternity pads for example, and if your baby is early, they will have clothes and nappies for it as yours would be too small anyway. We had a massive list last time, and didn't end up getting half of it - then found out we didn't need it anyway!

I have Captain Dippy's email address so I'll send her a quick message to check she's okay, but would guess (remembering the chaos of moving, even without the added stress of Christmas!) that she's probably just offline for a while.

I'd second disposable knickers and lots of jumbo sanitary pads.

Oh, and lots and lots and lots of ibuprofen. I was popping them like smarties what with a slightly sore bottom and breast engorgement! I'm going to start cooking & freezing meals in a month or two.

Morning folks.

Liath - glad to hear the MIL is on her way home! Nearly PMSL when DH told me last night that PIL were no longer planning to visit this month and he hoped I wasn't dissapointed (was thinking of celebrating actually!)

Zazas - Congrats on the engagement and at how much you do!

at toys r us. Saw a cotbed (£80 reduced from £100) and dresser (£20 full price) called Tivoli on web but out of stock. So rang local store to see if they had any...they said it had changed its name to Lorenzo and that they had some of that in stock. Web shows price of Lorenzo cotbed as £100 reduced from £200 and dresser is £50. So although it's the same thing it would cost £50 more. . Anyway decided to get a nice cot and matching dresser from John Lewis (and matress). Since I was getting free delivery figured I might aswell get Moses Basket there also. Only £180 all together and I noticed last night someone has posted on MN saying they're really pleased with the cot so yay!

Hello everyone Happy New year to you all. Going to be an especially exciting one for us all isn't it!

Nuttygirl,
Didn't know where to reply to you as we know have a choice of three threads! Yes am in Leeds! Still undecided on where to pop. Wanted a homebirth but all doctor friends have given me the fear, so thought i might compromise and go to wakefield birth centre- having a look round next week.

I'm just a bit put off LGI as it's so dissmal and they're really short staffed (and i have silly hippy ideas about giving birth in lovely natural environment.)Was actually at LGI at midnight on new years eve as i got v. woried about baby being quiet for a whole day. (Is usually extremely bouncy) As soon as i got there it started doing cartwheels, then didn't stop for about 20hrs- typical! Was strangely wonderful being there and listening to small's heart beating away at stroke of midnight. Staff were absolutely lovely though and it made me think it might not be so bad. Also heard a baby being born just after clock struck 12. Was really amazing.- maybe first baby born this year! Made me feel dead excited - gosh it will be us soon!

Nutty - I have ordered the Lorenzo one - was going to get the John Lewis one - the whistler set - but was drawn by the half price thing. I am waiting for delivery - will let you know when arrives! I ordered early because delivery from toys r us can be dodgy sometimes and if had long enough wouldn't get too cross!

If anyone wants Onelife nappies please let me know

Congratulations zazas - great news!

Am feeling a little rough today - lay on sofa for 3 hours while boys ran riot - have had some paracetamol and some lunch so may take them out this afternoon - for my own sanity!

WB - We're going to LGI because it's the easiest for us to get to really. Mind you I've found it pretty hard to find out any stats because they seem to join st James and LGI together (don't know how they expect people to pick between them!). Also saw that news article about the woman who'd been left after giving birth and she'd had to ring her mum to clean her at St James. Haven't really considered a homebirth as it's my first so feel a bit safer going to a hospital.

CFK - I would have got the toys r us one if they'd still had the Tivoli range...but I object to paying an extra £50 for a different name on the box. I've gone for the Winnepeg set at John Lewis. (It'll keep the in-laws happy too cos they're big JL fans!)

Have next midwife appt on Jan 11th and have noticed on the schedule that one of the things at this appointment is FBC - can anyone tell me does this mean full blood check?

Just a quicky to say that I have had an email back from Captain Dippy to say that all is fine, they have been offline, and are only just back on with dial-up. Her scan before Christmas was all good, and she's missing everyone and looking forward to being back properly online very soon !

Nutty - FBC is Full Blood Count (pretty much the same thing!). I'm getting one as well next appt - I think it's mainly to check for iron levels (anaemia).

Hey, congrats Zazas! Very VERY busy year for you then!
I forgot to tell you all, I had the strangest thing happen.. I had a dream that I found a glider chair in the street and bought it off a guy for ?50.00 (it has been one of my 'I WISH' items since hearing about them on MN, you see). Then THE VERY NEXT DAY I came out of my mum's house to see one sitting on the sidewalk outside her neighbour's house with a sign on it saying ?50.00!!! How freaky??!

Of course I snapped it up. It is so lovely, in good condition with the footstool and everything. Doesn't have cushions but that is very easily fixed.

Spoooooooky.

Good to hear CD is fine! Geordie is about as she's posted on the tartan thread. Haven't seen 1b3 - I do hope she's not been overdoing it (my God, I sound like my mum!!!).

Decided not to pounce on poor DH as he was on call for 24 hours and was on the go non-stop so have graciously let him go for a kip first ! He was so sweet, gave me a big hug and said thanks for putting up with his mum.

Is anyone else struggling with their appetites? I have an overwhelming urge to eat from the moment I get up and am waking up in the night starving. I'd promised myself I'd be more laid back this pregnancy about weight gain but am starting to get a bit panicky especially as I spent most of Christmas stuffing my face . Please someone reassure me I'm not the only neurot here.....

Liath - I've currently got a tin of Terrys choc orangge sensations on the coffee table and have been stuffing myself all day with them! When i've finished all the ones I like...I have a tin of Celebrations to move onto . And I could have murdered my nephew at xmas cos he opened mum's tin of Celebration and ate all the Maltesers (my fave) having already tried to eat all the cheesecake after xmas dinner.

hey ladies!!!

I'm here, dont worry about little old me.. had a nice xmas, although very sober, which was made worse by the fact it was birthday in between xmas and new year... still not to worry, it'll all be worth it!!!

Nothing at all exciting to report, very quiet xmas, lots of 11am lie ins!!!

Looking to start and get organised, bought lots of cute impractical baby outfits in the sales... need to start and buy boring stuff now!!!!

Report

Well liath I reckon that if you are hungry then you have to eat!!! Go with what your body is telling you. I am finding that I aren't eating very much as I have absolutely no room in my stomach - too much baby and not enough space - drives me mad. But when I can fit in food I eat well and enjoy it!

Thanks for all the good wishes by the way - it was a lovely suprise as we have both been married before and DP kept saying never again! It has been a crazy few years but all is so good now and the children are delighted. My 8yr DD has it all sorted out - she will carry the baby, her step sister the flowers and the 2 boys will wear smart clothes and OH yes they want new dresses!

I liked your dream maveta! Wow - tonight I am going to try to dream a few of the things on my list!!
