Indom as far as I know the latest your mat leave can start is the day your baby is born. So for most people, it has to be their due date at the latest, because you can't predict in advance whether you'll go over, and if your baby is early then mat leave as to start even if you've "booked" it as leave.

IndomitabIe · 03/12/2015 21:30

But I'll be off for the Easter holidays anyway, me. I won't actually be in work.

IndomitabIe · 03/12/2015 21:33

It'll automatically start the day after birth, whether that falls in the holidays or before. And I can go off sick in the 4 weeks before my due date and start the leave anyway.

MyNameIsSuz · 03/12/2015 21:42

indomitable, I have a feeling the latest it can start is the date given on your mat b1, so if that says the 23rd it'll have to be then. Definitely worth checking though!

IndomitabIe · 03/12/2015 21:50

I'll ask the midwife tomorrow. There's no mention of a latest date on the union guidance, except the day after birth.

I'm tempted to put it on my form anyway and discuss it with work tomorrow - you know, if you don't ask you don't get! I can always change it to my due date.

Actually, work had already agreed to me finishing the day after - last day of term.

Morning Xmas Grin

I filled out my mat leave forms last week and in a meeting yesterday it hit me that in real terms I haven't got that long left at work! On Sunday I will be 11 weeks away from induction.....

OP posts:
Me624 · 04/12/2015 08:17

It's really not long is it Paper! I'm 27 weeks today and planning to work to 38 so exactly 11 weeks of work left too! And Christmas in there too so even less time really. I must sort my forms with HR.

My bump has gone through a major growth spurt the last few weeks and I have not been holding back on the food, but was still a bit of a shock when I weighed myself this morning! I've now put on 8kg or about 1 stone 3 lb. I am worried that seems like a lot given I still have 13 weeks to go! NHS website says 12-15kg is normal though so maybe it's ok. I just don't want to be struggling to lose it afterwards.

IndomitabIe · 04/12/2015 08:39

I daren't weigh myself, me! I'm 24 weeks and got my MW appt this morning. Hope she doesn't weigh me either! I've been eating so, so much recently.

I am a bit concerned about losing it afterwards - I've got to go back to work in July (for 2 weeks)! But on the other hand, I'm aware that having some stores is probably a good thing for breastfeeding, and general health afterwards.

maybebabybee · 04/12/2015 08:54

I finish work on January 31 so it's only about 8 weeks for me Grin

I took all of February as annual leave as I'm already getting fed up with the commute at 26 weeks.

Me I really wouldn't worry, I have put on a good 2 stone....

Morning dumdiddly Not sure if I've seen your name on here or not so a warm welcome anyway Smile

I've gone from 10st 8lbs pre pregnancy to 11st 7lbs now, not too worried as know for my height I was already heavier than I should have been really and was on a mission to get back down to 9st 7 so had started running and stuff, stopped all that though.

I had a quick look into it and with Brie and goats cheese its the mould ripening which leaves the possibility of listeria due to the extra water in the cheeses, I found in Aldi though a rindless goats cheese so have stocked up on that Grin

I'm off work from 24th Dec to 4th Jan for our Xmas break, and officially break up for maternity leave 10 weeks today argh!!

Rosieblossom123 · 04/12/2015 09:14

maybe that's so soon, I'm so jealous!! haha My last day at work is the 12th Feb 2 weeks before my due date. Don't know how I'm going to last until then to be honest It takes me an hour to get to work and at 26+5 I'm so feb up with the commute :(

Rosieblossom123 · 04/12/2015 09:21

Q I'm off from 24th Dec to 4th Jan too can't wait and I've also got exactly 10 weeks left from today :) when is your due date hun?

maybebabybee · 04/12/2015 09:24

Q we're in about the same boat, I was 10st 5 pre pregnancy (am only 5ft 3 so this is heavier than I should be really) and had also been trying to get down to 9st - 9st7 (fat chance of that now!!!). Last time I weighed myself I was just under 12st!! :S

Battleshiphips2 · 04/12/2015 09:26

Not been on here for ages! Think last one I posted on was thread 4. Glad to see most of you are doing ok (hope you are all ok to missi). I've had a few problems as I have a placental haemorrhage that keeps bleeding. I've been given steroids and told he could come at any time! I'll be induced at 37 weeks if he stays in that long so only 11 weeks more.
Does anyone know if I should be concerned about only putting 6lbs on at this stage. I do need to lose some weight anyway but it doesn't really seem like a lot to put on for 26 weeks pg!

QforCucumber · 04/12/2015 09:59

rosie due 10th March, taking a week annual leave 15th-19th Feb then mat leave properly starts Monday 22nd Feb.

Can't wait for our little Xmas 10 days off, feel like I've not had any proper time off since we went on holiday back in May! Luckily my commute is a 15 minute drive from door to door so I really can't complain in that sense.

maybe I'm 5ft 4 so very similar, may try low carb bootcamp again when baby has arrived Smile

vroc81 · 04/12/2015 10:05

Battleships I've put about 1-3lb on depending on if you take my start weight or my booking in weight at 11 weeks when I had lost a few pounds due to nausea.. but I started larger, I was told that it is fine to do that as long as you are eating ok and getting plenty of nutrients in etc..

Q I am off to Aldi for some of that cheese!

I have a very sore muscle at the bottom of my bump, I think I overdid it stuffing horses haynet last weekend... of all the things I've done and that's what gets me.... but it now pulls even lifting very light things - is that it now or if I avoid lifting things might it settle back down?

TriJo · 04/12/2015 10:18

Off from the 18th to the 4th, back in Ireland from the 20th to the 29th. Looking forward to the break but not looking forward to Ryanair! Will be finishing up for maternity leave at 36+5 on February 26th - I have three weeks of annual leave to use before my scheduled leave starts pretty much right on 40 weeks.

Regarding weight gain... I'm up 7kg at 24+5. I started at 68, was 75 this morning - I'm 165cm or 5'5" old money. Worried about how big I'm going to get - but it really does feel like all boobs and bump gains. I do have an incentive to lose it after though, I am deferring a ballot spot for the London marathon into 2017 (it will be my 4th) so will be hoping to get back running as soon as I can after little man makes his entrance.

TheMshipIsBack · 04/12/2015 10:23

That Zoe Williams article is great, I remember reading that when I was pregnant with DS. The only dietary restrictions I have followed are the relatively sensible liver (vitamin A) and fish (mercury) recommendations. I miss pate but am still eating fish - you'd have to eat something like 8 tins of tuna a week to be causing any problems. Also not drinking alcohol but that's because it triggers heartburn; otherwise I'd happily be having a glass of wine a week by this point (27 weeks tomorrow), and I will certainly be having fizz and orange juice for Christmas! We've been having our annual pre-Christmas cheese tasting - get two new types every week and have them with Sunday dinner with the PILs, then decide which ones make the Christmas cheeseboard grade.

Feeling somewhat better today, still on the dizzy side of things and my energy is somewhere under my desk. I slept most of the last 24 hours. I wonder if I'm a bit anaemic. I only take vitamin D as anything with iron makes me really sick. I've got my 28 week bloods on the 15th so maybe I'll just wait till then. Could also be coming down with the latest virus. Both DH and DS were coughing and snorting this morning.

Rosieblossom123 · 04/12/2015 10:56

Q Oh I see, I have a week off to take too but don't know when to take it, don't want to take it a week before my mat leave because that means I'll be at home on my own for three weeks while dp is at work and if she doesn't turn up on her due date (6th) and I go a week over I be at home for 4 weeks in a row, that would drive me insane Shock

maybebabybee · 04/12/2015 11:03

ginger I hope you are feeling ok today? Flowers

MShip yeah that's pretty much what I've been doing re: diet! Hope you're not anaemic, it's so draining. Fx it's a one off!

QforCucumber · 04/12/2015 11:14

ah rosie 3 of my friends are on maternity leave, or coming towards the end of their leaves so hoping that my time will be spent catching up with them as we all seem to disappear from each other over xmas.

Otherwise I'll be sorting the house out and just basically having a chill (I bloody love getting the place to myself while DP is at work)
Our annual leave run Jan to December so the remaining 4 weeks of my leave are going to be December next year so I'll get full pay for Xmas again - then (if i return) back to work on the 7th Jan I think I put.

mship I'm with you, avoided high Vit A, and had maybe 1 tin tuna a week but other than that not been necessarily strict really. Not had a drink in almost 4 months though - I got a terrible migraine off a glass of wine at a wedding in August so just haven't bothered since, that 1st glass of wine after baby is going to be immense!

hayleycookie · 04/12/2015 11:34

I'm feeling like maybe I can relax on my pregnancy diet after reading through the past page or so. I've been so strict! No caffeine (no tea, no fizzy drinks just some chocolate on occasion), no eggs, no mayo, nothing that could risk it! I must say I'm starting to get so tired since the frequent bladder kicks in the night that I have missed my tea. Think I could get away with having a few caffeinated tea's during the day?

I work from home full time now, so I haven't given much though to maternity. I probably should start discussing that with work Xmas Hmm

Has anyone else had some mood swings? I got SO angry last night at something which was really no big deal. Then I got upset because I didn't know why I was so angry and had a little cry. Then went to bed sad and woke up in a mood again! I'm ok now, but just wondering if anyone else had had the mood swings?

Hope Missi and Ginger are ok today

Rosieblossom123 · 04/12/2015 11:39

All my friends work Q and the ones that have kids they're at the end of their leave which is annoying :( I suppose I'll be busy with all the washing, ironing and cleaning, and maybe napping throughout the day Blush

maybebabybee · 04/12/2015 11:41

hayley honestly you will be fine with tea, I'm pretty sure the heightened miscarriage risk from caffeine (which there is limited evidence to support anyway) is only in the first trimester anyway. And would only really apply if you were drinking like 8 cups of coffee a day plus cans of coke...
