Me I just went to the shops bought a cold bottle of orange juice and had some oreo and asked my manager if I could take a 15 min break to relax for a bit and she's just started kicking again. Maybe ask your manager if you could have a break and put your feet up for a bit hun Flowers

TheMshipIsBack · 03/12/2015 12:24

Me This is my second very active baby and it's quite normal for me to have periods of 2-4 hours with feeling nothing all the way up to giving birth - usually they've just gone to sleep for a bit, and then the boxing match recommences.

I visited a friend and her almost 4 week old baby last night. I forgot how tiny newborns are! (Although this little one was only 6lb at birth and just now getting to 7lb - she'll be pushing 3 months by the time she weighs what DS did at birth!) I got some lovely baby snuggles when I was demonstrating the wraps and carriers I'd brought over to lend. She's a clingy little thing and only really happy when held. I got mum and baby settled with the one that seemed to suit them best, and baby went right to sleep. I left them to it and (TMI) on the way home found my boobs were sore and leaking Blush.

Feeling crappy today - sore hips, nausea, tiredness. Taking a pregnancy-related illness sick day. I normally work 4 days a week, but decided to go to 5 days this fall to get things done before I go off (no real maternity cover in academia!), with the bonus of maximize savings and mat leave pay. DH and his parents have been alternating taking care of DS on what is normally my day off, but with just two weeks left before the holidays, I am running on empty. So I am sitting at home with tea, running some new fabric through the laundry, planning our new kitchen, and feeling baby T do the bladder dance. Once the fabric is dry I'll be making DS a new pair of fleecy trousers for his Christmas pjs - will post a photo later.

Thanks for all the reassurance, I'm in an office so nowhere to really lie down but I am pleased to say I have had a few movements since I last posted! Definitely quieter than he normally is but there's movement there and I think he must have just tired himself out last night - he really was going crazy! I'm 27 weeks now so approaching the time when we need to monitor - pregnancy is just one worry after another really isn't it?! I'm not normally a particularly anxious person.

Baby me is normally very active after lunch so I'll go and get some now and see how he is this afternoon!

MoreChilliPlease · 03/12/2015 12:37

Sorry me, I missed your last post. Just wanted to say glad you've had a bit of movement now and that I hope baby is booting about this afternoon after your lunch! Smile

Rosieblossom123 · 03/12/2015 12:45

Me It's non stop worrying isn't it, at the beginning we worry about bleeding and hoping we reach the 12 week mark then we worry about the 20 week scan, then we worry about movements and birth, then it's non stop worrying until they're older and probably will never stop worrying for the rest of our lives!! seriously?? haha it'll be worth it though :)

Gingerlady123 · 03/12/2015 14:39

Back home. Just drunk this and saw it says this! It's unpasteurised.

Googled and found this

I googled last night and found this :"Orange juice labeled "fresh-squeezed" or "chilled" may be unpasteurized, which means it could carry bacteria that may cause food-borne illness. Pregnant women may be at a greater risk of infection from these bacteria. Food-borne illness can cause dehydration, premature labor, miscarriage, stillbirth or other pregnancy complications. To be safe, choose frozen concentrate, canned or cartons of juice that have "pasteurized" on the label."

What have I done? I have a cold at the moment to so my immunity won't be strong enough. Is their anyone I can phone?

Try not to worry about it ginger, I know that's easier said than done. The risk is so miniscule, and you'll know if you get ill - it won't hurt your baby without warning, so maybe if you get really sick from it I'd go to the doctor, but otherwise I'd assume if you're fine then the baby is too, if you see what I mean.

I know how worrying it is - Dh cooked steaks last week and mine was actually bloody in the middle, I left it but still ate the veg it had touched then worried myself silly all night.

If you're super worried maybe call the midwife. Have you spoken to them properly about your health anxiety? If so I'm sure they'll understand.

gemsparkle84 · 03/12/2015 15:33

Ginger...

I suffer from terrible health anxiety also. I have been drinking lots of orange juice like this probably unpasteurised as well. Please please do not worry about this. One trick I am learning at the moment is to think "there is a very very small risk" then accept the risk and move on. You can not drive yourself crazy thinking these things it is never ending.

Have you managed to speak to your midwife or other HP about your anxiety?

maybebabybee · 03/12/2015 15:41

ginger another one here who has really bad health anxiety and in the nicest possible way, you are panicking needlessly Flowers. I promise you it will be fine. In this pregnancy so far, I have eaten: rare steak, brie, goat's cheese, blue cheese and unwashed veg.

Think of it like this: there is a miniscule chance you would get food poisoning from drinking that juice. And if you got food poisoning the risk to your baby is also miniscule.

I think that speaking to someone about your anxiety would be far more productive than speaking to someone about drinking this orange juice. I know how it feels when you're in the grips of health anxiety and it feels like no one is taking you seriously, but I promise you I totally get it. Brew and Cake for you.

maybebabybee · 03/12/2015 15:41

Oh and I have had a glass of wine or two and have definitely drunk fresh squeezed juice.

I intend to have a steak on NYE too!

gemsparkle84 · 03/12/2015 15:44

I agree with Maybe.
Please speak to somebody about your health anxiety, nobody will judge you, they will help xxx

ffauxlivia · 03/12/2015 16:02

ginger just think of the thousands of women who drink M&S orange juice! I promise it will not be a problem!

As posters on your main thread pointed out - the advice was from a US website, which are mostly not regulated, so just stick to information from the NHS or official websites like the American Pregnancy Association or What to Expect etc. Also, as you know I live in the US and it is a bit overkill here. My practice told me not to eat any feta or mozzarella etc at all, even though I know it's 100% safe when it's pasteurised so ignored them!

When I have anxiety I could read 50 websites which reassure me, and 1 that doesn't, and obsess over that 1! So I know what it's like, and am trying to avoid anxiety by only reading websites I trust, or staying off google and listening to seasoned mumsnetters instead :)

Really hope someone is taking your anxiety seriously and you are getting some help, you deserve some peace and relaxation in this pregnancy Flowers

IndomitabIe · 03/12/2015 19:04

Glad you've got a plan, Q!

gem I had trapped wind terribly in the first trimester but yes, it is starting to come back. I'm getting what feels like trapped wind but isn't shifting through as fast as usual. Boo.

Me I hope by the time I get to the end of the thread you've had lots more movement. Mine had a remarkably quiet day yesterday, just the odd nudge, but he's been back on form today (and stretching out, it feels like).

MoreChilli I'm finding it hard to see if I'm being more emotional, I'm pretty bad for it most of the time! Temper has shortened significantly this week!

Good to 'see' you Ginger. Glad all is good. I've never heard of someone getting food poisoning from juice, not even from the stalls in Marrakech! I'm sure you'll be fine.

Oh that sounds lovely, TheM, even the empathy-boobs! Glad to see you're resting, today; very wise.

Maybe you've had Brie? Oh, I've got such a hankering for brie and grape sandwiches at the moment (to the point where I'm considering briefing DH to bring me one to hospital ASAP after birth). I keep telling myself the risk is so minuscule it wouldn't hurt. It's only cheese...! I've had some sips of prosecco too! #worthit

I've been so uncomfortable this afternoon. It's too early to have that head-wedged-under-ribs feeling but that's what it feels like! At least, it did when I was driving!

Trinpy · 03/12/2015 19:06

Ginger I've just read your thread Flowers. As others have said, I hope you are getting some proper help for your anxiety? It must be so exhausting for you being under so much stress all the time and it would be great if you could get some coping strategies before the baby is here.

MyNameIsSuz · 03/12/2015 19:13

indomitable, you can get pasteurised brie, they sell it in Sainsbury's...

IndomitabIe · 03/12/2015 19:20

Really, Suz? I've seen Brie made with pasteurised milk in waitrose, but not sure if that's enough?

Me624 · 03/12/2015 19:24

Indom I've had more movement this afternoon, thanks for asking! He has been quiet today but I'm happy that it's just a quieter day and nothing to worry about.

Ginger I've never even checked orange juice to see if it's pasteurised or not - drunk loads of it, you will be fine! I have also eaten goats cheese (not the OK kind) on more than one occasion, runny eggs (abroad so not lion stamped) and more caffeine than is recommended on several occasions Blush

IndomitabIe · 03/12/2015 19:27

Oh, runny eggs! What's the point otherwise?!

QforCucumber · 03/12/2015 19:35

I thought with brie and goat cheese it wasnt because of the pasturisation but more because they're mould ripened (hasnt stopped me eating goats cheese)
Also had medium steak (usually eat it blue)

MyNameIsSuz · 03/12/2015 20:00

Oh I don't know Beautiful, what if you cut the rind off the brie??

maybebabybee · 03/12/2015 20:50

Advise anyone worrying about something they've eaten/drunk in pregnancy read this Zoe Williams article. It's from 2007 but it's very good, particularly the bit on listeria which is why you can't eat brie etc: www.theguardian.com/society/2007/may/29/health.medicineandhealth

Honestly, brie is fine. The risk of listeria is so low as to be negligible.

Flowers to all worriers, of which I am one.

Me624 · 03/12/2015 21:00

maybe thanks for that link, really interesting article! I've mainly been avoiding the things we're told to avoid, but haven't really worried when I have eaten goats cheese etc on the odd occasion. I had no idea that instances of listeria were that low! And given my caffeine habit (I have cut down considerably, but I'm still having at least 3 cups of tea a day plus chocolate almost every day and the odd Diet Coke too) it's reassuring to know about the Danish study.

BeautifulLiar · 03/12/2015 21:13

Suz I didn't say anything! Haha.

Indomitable - I've had a couple of brie and grape sandwiches from M and S. So good!

Ginger I really hope you're ok. Anxiety is really debilitating xxx

IndomitabIe · 03/12/2015 21:14

Thanks, I'll read that in a bit.

I'm just doing my written notification for work. Can I take your opinions, please?

I'm due 23rd March, the day before the last day of term.

I qualify for 4 weeks full pay, 2 at 90%, then 12 at 50%+SMP.

Do you think I could give my request to start leave as 2 weeks after my due date - so that it'll automatically kick in the day after I give birth. So up to then I'd be on normal full pay but off because it's the holidays, making my full-pay bit last longer.

"The union advises that you should choose a date on which to begin your maternity leave as close to the expected week of childbirth as it is medically safe to do so".

I'd need to give 28 days notice if I want to change it. Or it'll start automatically if I go sick in the 4 weeks before EWC, which is still 4 weeks before the end of term.

Does that make sense? Do you think I'd 'get away' with that? Maximising my higher paid bit like that?

MyNameIsSuz · 03/12/2015 21:19

Haha, oops, it was Q!

Interesting article maybe. I've had lots of feta and yarg as both are pasteurised, never thought about mould. Hopefully those are ok.

I'm definitely less relaxed this time around - drank lots of caffeine with ds, had the odd glass of wine... I think I'm naturally stricter this time after a miscarriage in between (which I can't help putting down to the shedload of cold and flu drugs I took before I knew I was pregnant, when I was sick over Christmas last year). I've had so little caffeine this time that now when I try to have it when I'm super tired it really doesn't agree with me! Maybe I'll be lifelong caffeine free!
