Like these ones Rosie

Rosieblossom123 · 02/12/2015 11:41

Omg Hayley I love them :) such a good idea too! Gonna spend more money now, thanks haha I hope your DS feels better soon bless him, hopefully calpol can work it's magic on him Flowers

MyNameIsSuz · 02/12/2015 13:13

You should also check out Air Wrap bumpers Rosie, they're kind of mesh so totally breathable, and they Velcro on. Not as pretty but still add that little bit of padding against the bars and make the cot seem a bit more enclosed.

I had a panic this morning when I had a little bit of pink when I wiped. Nothing since, and it was after... ahem, straining a bit so I don't know if it was just that. Not sure whether to call the midwives or not!

QforCucumber · 02/12/2015 13:35

suz If you're worried give them a call, but may just be from the straining, pregnancy is so attractive Blush

Does anyone have a list of what should be in the hospital bag? I've seen so many different ones online and don't know where to even start!

Rosieblossom123 · 02/12/2015 13:44

suz I agree with Q, It might be from straining, I get it quiet a lot and it's not nice :( I just googled them, I see what you mean hun they're very light aren't they, they look good!

Q I've got the same problem, every website is different haha just want to know what to practically pack and when to start packing it!

MyNameIsSuz · 02/12/2015 13:46

Thanks q, I'm so undecided, I just had a big cherry coke to wake her up a bit and she's whomping around in there, so must be ok right?

I think with the hospital bag lists, it's so individual and of course depends on the time of year. Things I'll change this time:

  • more than 3 sleepsuits, as he threw up on all of them the first night
  • no dressing gown, just a thin one or a hoody. Maternity wards are warm.
  • no proper nursing bras, just soft sleep bras and nursing support vests
  • 2 different bags, one for me and one for the baby, easier to find stuff
  • don't pack a whole box of breast pads. Four or five pairs will be enough and if you're kept in someone can bring more
  • pack your own maternity pads, hospital ones are awful
  • I'm going to take either a top and tail bowl or wipes this time. Had to change nappies with a cardboard bedpan of water last time, not good. Wonder if I'll be judged for bringing wipes...

Hmmmm...

BeautifulLiar · 02/12/2015 13:58

Suz you could take Waterwipes? Quite expensive but I'm planning on using them for the first few weeks.

TheMshipIsBack · 02/12/2015 14:00

Q For DS I had two bags - one for me for labour and after, and one for the baby which was basically a stocked change bag with three changes of vest/sleepsuit/hat in both 0-1 and 0-3 sizes. In my bag were loose comfortable clothes, maternity pads, breast pads, small travel-size soap/shampoo, and some snacks/energy drinks. DH of course forgot the baby bag on the way to the hospital. The list from Which? is actually pretty good. It's quite likely your partner will go home on their own for a bit after the birth so don't worry about taking the car seat with you in the mad rush; they can always bring it later.

TheMshipIsBack · 02/12/2015 14:02

suz I took a pack of the Boots extra large cotton pads to use as wipes and a little mini spray bottle to wet them. We used that set-up at home for ages too as DS had a sensitive little bottom. He uses the spray bottle as a bath toy now Grin

Rosieblossom123 · 02/12/2015 14:03

When did you start packing the bag? is it at 35 weeks?

BeautifulLiar · 02/12/2015 14:11

Yeh I'll probably do mine around then Rosie. I've always packed a hospital bag even though I've had home births.

Nesting is getting silly now. I've got three decorators coming over today and tomorrow to give me a quote for painting the hall, stairs and landing. Its a rented house ffs! I want it to be all perfect for baby.

QforCucumber · 02/12/2015 14:15

Thanks all, Mship not too worried about DP going home etc, we live a 5 minute walk from the hospital anyway - so close we can see the mother and baby unit doors from our front garden, plan is when I'm in labour, for him to drop me off, take the car home and run over haha (saves paying hospital parking charges)

I'm off work for 2 weeks from 18th Dec to 4th Jan so plan to pack my bag in that time just as it's probably my only spare time until leave starts on the 12th feb.

2 bags sounds like a good idea, I think I'm over thinking things really.
Keep realising we still have only bought a nursing chair, some sleep suits and been given moses basket and baby bath/top tail bowl. Should probably be putting a bit more urgency into things now.

TheMshipIsBack · 02/12/2015 14:16

rosie Think I'll do the baby bag while I'm off for the holidays so 31 weeks? Need to wash all the tiny things everyone's been passing on to us. At least one box smells a tiny bit of baby sick. My bags this time will hopefully be emergency-only as I'd like to try for a home birth if my midwife agrees at my next appointment and I stay low risk.

TheMshipIsBack · 02/12/2015 14:18

Q A few nappies and wipes and it sounds like you're sorted!

Rosieblossom123 · 02/12/2015 14:29

Beautiful nesting is also getting very silly here too haha we're currently decorating the nursery, my step son's room and the bathroom plus all I want to do is clean, I'm going mad!! Confused

Mship I might do it during the holidays too I'll be 30 weeks, but like you some of the clothes that have been passed over smell funny and I want to wash and iron them sooner than later!

Q same here not too worried about sending dp home, hospital is literally 10 mins away, we decided for dp to drop me off and he parks the car round the corner and walk back it's literally a 5 min walk if that, no way we're paying for parking!!! haha

I can't believe I've got 13 weeks and 4 days to go! Getting so nervous and excited Shock

marmiteandcheeseplease · 02/12/2015 14:44

Another nester here - after clearing the room for the replacement radiators me and DP have decided we want new carpet in our bedroom and to paint the walls. Both things we've wanted to do since we moved in two years ago. Problem is trying to get everything done before Xmas! We are gonna go to carpetright this weekend and get an offcut for our bedroom and hopefully get it installed asap.

I can't believe xmas is only three weeks away... Not even remotely ready. My family usually do secret Santa but haven't heard anything about it yet so can't buy until then!

hayleycookie · 02/12/2015 14:49

I'm so jealous of you lot living so close to the hospital! We've only lived in this area for a year, and are 45 mins away from our hospital on a good day with no traffic! Hubby works an hour in the opposite direction so if I go into labour while he's at work it's gonna be at least 2 hours til we're together in hospital. When I gave birth to DS we only lived 5 mins away and he was able to pop home when nothing was happening and catch some sleep (I was induced). He had to rush back at one point and I would hate for him to miss something this time, but also want him to be able to go home if he needs it. We do have the option of private rooms (£75 for 24 hours) but I think they're only available after you've given birth so not much help here!! Think he will just have to pack his own hospital back with an air bed or something haha

Rosieblossom123 · 02/12/2015 15:04

hayley I know it's good that I live so close to the hospital but dp's work is an hour and 45 mins away and that really scares me, I told him he better fly when he gets THE CALL haha

BeautifulLiar · 02/12/2015 15:58

Haha marmite carpet twins!

Oh god Rosie I know how you feel, DH keeps joking about how fast I labour but I'm like seriously, don't even THINK about working away near my due date!! Hayley - we're 45 minutes from the hospital too.

BeautifulLiar · 02/12/2015 16:00

Who else has realised that if you're currently 26 weeks+ it's the same time until D Day that has passed since our 12 week scans?! OMG.

TriJo · 02/12/2015 16:06

10 minutes walk to the hospital here. Our other choices were 10 minutes drive or 10 minutes on the tube away. Closest one had slightly better reviews.

Nowhere near ready for Christmas either - we're flying back to Ireland on the 20th and it seems crazy close. Have only one present sorted so far, that's a Benefit set that I ordered for my sister in a Black Friday sale and had delivered to my mum's house.

Rosieblossom123 · 02/12/2015 16:24

OMG Beautiful that's really scary Shock I've got a feeling it's going to fly by!! Ahhhh!!!
Well Dp keeps joking and saying you better keep her in there until I get to you! Seriously? Haha I will actually kill him if he's late! I'm hoping she here on a weekend my due date is the 6th it's a Sunday and Mother's Day so it's a perfect arrival day for her haha don't want to wait a whole year to celebrate Mother's Day.

I just got my xmas jumper and I'm sooo in love! Can't wait to wear soon Grin
