Just catching up and amazed and delighted to hear Flump/Zach has arrived safely. Congratulations Missi almost welling up at my desk, you sound to be doing so well. Zach sounds like a little fighter too, must get it from his mummy! Hope you get your first cuddle soon.

Results of my GTT came back clear last week so it looks like I could have a good chance at a VBAC this time.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 01/12/2015 14:14

congrats on your GTT coming back clear LCR. Assuming you had a c-section last time following induction? I had a friend who had GD both pregnancies and was induced with both - first time ended up with a c-section, second time she had a VBAC so even if you did end up developing GD and needed to be induced, doesn't necessarily mean you can't have a VBAC (if that was your concern!).

Plumber is here today doing the radiatiors, I can't wait to have a working radiator in our bathroom, it's been punishing getting out of the shower recently with no heating in the room!

love the idea of an advent truck Mship. I said to DP this morning that next year we should sort out an advent calendar for DD and he said he'd meant to this year but forgot. in fact he forgot to even mention anything to me at all! so we have both been a bi faily, but tbh I can't believe it's December already! They are turning on the christmas tree lights on the university campus this evening and since DDs nursery is on campus I am going to take her to see it after I pick her up. She's really excited about seeing the Christmas tree lights, and keeps going on about us putting up a tree Grin.

Went to a partners pregnancy yoga class with DP last night, was just us and one other couple so quite intimate. It was really nice. Ended up reflecting a lot on my first birth and things that I could have done differently etc. It made it a bit more real for DP I think - we've been so busy he/we haven't really had time to think about the whole birth/baby thing despite me obviously getting bigger and being massively pregnant! speaking of which - 26 weeks exactly today, so have hit the 6 months mark! Grin

TheMshipIsBack · 01/12/2015 14:40

pug a certain amount of steerage will be needed! DH has a particular small tool on his wish list so we are going to visit Screwfix and let DS pick from the appropriate catalogue pages.

LCR Congratulations on the GTT all clear! I'm rather dreading the possibility of doing it. Everyone says the drink is truly disgusting.

Happy 6 months/26 weeks to everyone getting there this week! Cake

hayleycookie · 01/12/2015 14:55

Congrats on your results LCR! My GTT is on December 21st and I'm also dreading the drink. I think it varies by practice though. I've read on some boards that it is literally a bottle of Lucozade, whereas others say it's a powder mix drink. I'm not a fan of original Lucozade anyway so not holding much hope. How did yours taste?

LCR77 · 01/12/2015 15:46

Yes I did have GD last time and ended up with EMCS. Was a bit of an ordeal actually and having a full debrief with consultant midwife on Monday to discuss. I didn't react very well to the induction pessary so will be doing everything to avoid one. Would prefer elective c than induction again. Although I have heard of many people successful going through induction. I don't want to put anyone off!

The drink was fine better than last time. Didn't even taste overly sugary. You've got 5 mins to drink it so can take your time. Good luck with your GTTs MShip and Hayley

vroc81 · 01/12/2015 16:37

Good news on the GTT LCR I had one after booking in with a "well youre fat so your probably already a but diabetic" comment! It really wasn't that bad to drink.. My results last time were the same before and after the drink but got to do it again in two weeks, might put a bit of a downer on the Christmas pudding if I fail!

BeautifulLiar · 01/12/2015 16:37

I'm going to cancel my GTT test but scared I'll get into trouble! There's no way I can go without food for that long, plus I need to be around for carpet fitters. They've only put me in for it because my dad was recently diagnosed! Ugh...

BeautifulLiar · 01/12/2015 16:39

Marmite I know how you feel re heating - my thermostat broke so have also been getting out of the shower and into the cold!!

Trinpy · 01/12/2015 17:10

Can you change your appointment for another day Beautiful? If you get an appointment first thing then you only have to last out until mid morning then you can have a massive brunch! Having a parent with diabetes does put you at a higher risk (I've got a diabetic dad too so I know its a pita!) but its up to you Smile.

My gp's surgery makes you bring your own lucozade Hmm and I got into trouble last time because I didn't bring enough. Had to call dh out for an emergency lucozade run!

Crispylicious · 01/12/2015 17:59

Another one with the GTT due to a type 2 diabetic dad! And mines on 31 Dec! Wild NYE for me then.

ginger I was wondering if you may have cystitis? It involves lots of weeing, stinging wees and doesn't always show in a dip test. It's harmless to baby though and can be resolved with some over the counter sachets. Hope the red vom has cleared up.

We have a wooden advent calendar for dd, but I've been a bit crap with gifts for it and it's mostly either chocs or stickers!

BeautifulLiar · 01/12/2015 19:28

Trinpy it is first thing! And I need to get the kids to school too... I don't even talk to my dad (who is a diabetes consultant Hmm) and the midwife told me I wouldn't have diabetes so I don't see why I should do it?! I couldn't handle not having breakfast...!

maybebabybee · 01/12/2015 19:49

Are you not allowed to eat when you have the sugary drink test then?! Did not know that!

BeautifulLiar · 01/12/2015 20:02

No!! From 8pm the night before I can only have water. Then I'd have to sit in the hospital waiting room for two hours... not allowed to eat or walk!!

Today I didn't eat for about two hours if that and was shaky, light headed and nauseous. Definitely need to cancel!

MyNameIsSuz · 01/12/2015 20:43

Ooh, I feel for all you ladies having the GTT, sounds nasty.

New pregnancy effect for me: this afternoon DS played up when I went to collect him, and on our walk home (through a little wood) he got carried away and ran away from me and wouldn't listen when I shouted at him to stop. As he got to the path down the side of a stream I had to run after him, and my pelvic floor did not hold up well! With every step of my run a little splash more wee fell out, thank goodness for panty liners. Sigh. Have a cough too which is totally not helping.

Me624 · 01/12/2015 21:01

Oh no Suz! Very common though I think especially in second pregnancy. I'm a first timer and no pelvic floor issues yet but my usually iron clad bladder is definitely starting to feel the strain. I keep having to take an extra wee before I go to sleep at night (having had one maybe half an hour or an hour before when getting into bed) and during the day at work I sometimes feel desperate yet when I go not that much comes out! So think the baby is definitely putting pressure on that region at the moment!

The GTT test sounds grim, sorry to those who are having it. A good friend of mine had very bad GD, she was on very high doses of insulin despite being so careful about her diet. The only bonus was that she ended her pregnancy lighter than when she began it, due to the much improved diet!

MyNameIsSuz · 01/12/2015 21:22

It's ok, it was only little bits, not a whole wee! But definitely need to work on that pelvic floor a bit Grin

IndomitabIe · 01/12/2015 21:34

In the nicest way possible, maybe, I'm glad he gave a good thumping overnight!

Sorry to hear you're feeling rough, hayley. Hope you managed that nap.

ThePug I don't envy you that journey. You probably should take your notes - but I can see why you wouldn't!

Well done vroc, we've still bought hardly anything. I can't be bothered with the crowds at the shops, but I think I've left it a bit late for online. We'll have to try the indie shops in the smaller towns.

Hi Joanna, nice to 'see' you. Glad your little ninja is clearly doing well!

That sounds lovely, TheMship! DS (and I) just has a paper advent calendar (though DH has a chocolate one and is "sharing" the chocs with DS!). My GTT last time involved original lucozade (I had to bring myself). The taste was no problem compared to the fasting!

LCR glad the GTT is clear and you're all good to go!

Hope the radiators have gone in ok, marmite. The couples yoga sounds interesting.

Beautiful because you're slim they'll probably be ok with avoiding a GTT. The NHS are incredibly size-sensitive. You could always have one later if your urine dips show high glucose.

Oh no Suz! I'm only 24 weeks (tomorrow) but I've been increasingly conscious of my pelvic floor - done lots of deliberate sitting down today!

Speaking of which - I've been feeling a bit... swollen in the undercarriage region. Not all the time, but walking into work this morning I was very conscious of it. Combined with the heavy pelvic floor feeling (and I'm doing tons of exercises), it's a bit disconcerting. Anyone else?

I'm just back from yoga. I'm so weak, and now so tired! Had a super busy day too so haven't had tea yet (probably responsible for the pathetic yoging!). zzz...

No Ginger around today? Hope she got the pink-puke checked out and told work where to shove it and is resting up.

Hope Missi and Zach are well.

Rosieblossom123 · 02/12/2015 09:10

Beautiful my nan and dad are diabetic but midwife wasn't bothered to do the test because I'm skinny well Was!!

I'm really struggling with my sleep, pregnancy insomnia is horrible + leg cramps, I haven't had a decent night sleep since week 19 and I'm now 26+3 and feel like a zombie everyday at work :(

We just ordered our nursery set on Monday from Argos 6 Piece set was £599 down to £250 + you get the mattress half price so the total was £300. can't wait to set it up. We cleared the nursery now to start the painting!! Grin

Anyone knows where to get cheap cob bedding from, Mothercare's one is like £60!!! that's crazy!!

TheMshipIsBack · 02/12/2015 09:29

rosie Ikea does cotton cot bedding quite inexpensively. All you really need are fitted sheets if you'll be using swaddling or baby sleeping bags. The sleeping bags are often a really good deal used on eBay or gumtree.

Rosieblossom123 · 02/12/2015 09:41

Mship Thanks hun I'll have a look now :) I bought two sleeping bags so far, would you recommend getting a cot bumper I heard really negative reviews about them!

TriJo · 02/12/2015 09:46

So my pelvis has decided it wants to start griping at me. Very sore right across the front when walking, but oddly enough swimming at a decent pace doesn't hurt at all... Grr. Not as bad this morning as it was yesterday, but still a bit annoying.

TheMshipIsBack · 02/12/2015 10:28

rosie Cot bumpers are essentially banned in Canada, where I grew up. I use just a fitted sheet and whatever level of clothing (I include sleeping bags and swaddling in this) is appropriate for warmth. The bumper strings are strangulation hazards and the bumpers themselves (and any stuffed animals or other bedding) are suffocation hazards. The risk is low, it is true, but it's easily avoidable.

Rosieblossom123 · 02/12/2015 10:48

Mship yeah that's what I've been reading, so I want the cot to be as clear as possible so as the crib, I'll be putting the cocoona baby in the crib with a blanket that comes with is so there's no loose items around but definitely not buying a cot bumper now, wouldn't want to risk anything!

QforCucumber · 02/12/2015 11:01

Hello all,

been in hibernation a little the last few days - December is a busy month for us at work as it's a matter of preparing all the year end stuff and loads of admin work setting up for 2016.

I'm only back for about 6 weekish after Xmas too so having to remember to put things into a diary for the temp who's coming in my place, van services etc and its so annoying haha!

Hope you're all well, will try catch up fully over the next day or 2 Smile

hayleycookie · 02/12/2015 11:24

Thanks Indom. Didn't manage the nap but did get to have a bath once DH got home. Feeling much better today but poor DS is worse. He's got a rotten cough, it sounds so painful! Took him to the Dr this morning and they said it's just a viral infection so to keep him topped up with Calpol and cough medicine and watch his temperature. He was 38.5 this morning so gotta try get it down.

Also had a call from the pharmacy to let me know I had a prescription waiting to be picked up for a UTI! Nice of the midwives to let me know aye? Ashamed to say I always associated UTI's with uncleanliness (is that a word?) but have googled and it could be from the baby kicking my bladder, or squashing it so that urine stays in for longer and collects bacteria. Gross! Pregnancy is so glam!

Rosie I had bumpers on DS's crib and cot bed, and he is obviously fine, but I hadn't heard the horror stories back then. Might give them a miss this time just to have one less thing to worry about. You can get bumpers that wrap around the bars individually if you really want one. They're meant to be much safer.
