Gosh this thread moves fast! Sorry to hear some of you are staring with sickness already. I thought I had some the other day, but then DH had it too, and turned out to be food poisoning! I called the doctors surgery and the nurse said not to worry too much if it cleared up within 24 hours but to get back in touch ASAP if I felt dehydrated etc. Luckily we both seemed to get it out of our system very quickly and feeling right as rain again now.

Sorry to hear you're having such a worrying time berries. It's hard to relax isn't it. I hope your GP appointment goes well.

And finally, I've not rtft, but I saw a bit about bras further up, and wanted to mention that Bravissimo told me last time that as long as bras are properly fitted there's no problem with wearing underwired bras throughout pregnancy.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 03/12/2015 23:13

minibetty we can support each other then. I've had very therapy going and still can't shift it. Any tips?

berries I suffer from anxiety too because of my phobia and when I feel bad I put a TED talk or read a book to try and force myself to relax.

lily I'm sure she was just trying to be efficient and businesslike but has forgetten she is dealing with real people! I hope it hasn't unsettled you too much.

Minibetty · 04/12/2015 06:46

Alfietherailwaycat I will still pretty much run away if someone is being sick but I think having no choice but to look after a friend who was being ill on a night out, plus having a stomach bug and just having to deal with it helped a bit (forced me to realise it's not quite as scary as I used to think). I think I've pinpointed a few things that may have triggered it as a child too & have been addressing a very restricted diet as a result for the last ten years!

I find breathing techniques (learnt in yoga) helps keep me calm if I get worried. You can always talk to me if you want someone that will understand - most people don't! I was relieved to find out the phobia has a name too! How will you feel about your baby being sick?

Christinedonna · 04/12/2015 07:48

Morning! I've just taken my pregnacare tablet for the day. (4th one in, yay!) and noticed it says on the pack "to be taken on a full stomach. I've been taking them first thing before eating. Plus I haven't really been eating much in the mornings as I feel too sick. Is taking it on a full stomach recommended to reduce the risk of me bringing it back up or is there a real reason behind it?

BergamotMouse · 04/12/2015 07:54

I take mine midway through a meal Christine as find if I take them on their own / straight after they feel stuck in my throat. I think they can make you feel sick so that might be why it says on a full stomach or it could be that all the vitamins absorb better with food.

I usually take mine with breakfast but switching to evening today as I always feel sick mid morning so seeing if it's linked. I think it's more to do with hunger though so am also armed with a box of breakfast cereal to munch through at work. I'll be the size of a house by the end of the first trimester.

Flybynight1 · 04/12/2015 08:12

Christine I believe the idea with taking on a full stomach is to protect your stomach/gut (I used to take the skin/hair supplements and they were the same) and it should help you to stop feeling sick with them.

I take mine with dinner but so long as you're taking them full stop I think that should be the key :-) I'm taking the omega 3 capsules too, is anyone else?

PourMeSomethingStronger · 04/12/2015 08:13

Christine I found taking them on an empty stomach with DS2 made me feel sick, but not with food. I take mine at dinner time now rather than in the morning. Until I worked it out last time, I thought I had terrible morning sickness, but once I switched things around it vanished.

ToElleWithIt · 04/12/2015 09:07

Hi everyone

Just got my bfp here. I'm putting my due date at August 8th.

Stats: I'm 34 and this will be #2 for me. DS is nearly 20 months.

I'm so excited about the idea of a sibling for DS, but nervous because I had a miscarriage before DS. Because of that, last time I got a few early scans and with hindsight they gave me more anxiety than reassurance. We has the same experience of seeing sac, but no heartbeat and then I got really upset and had another week on tenterhooks etc etc. So this time I'm going to just try to relax and wait 'til I get one at my booking appointment. [I'm in Ireland (interloper) so the system is a bit different here and I won't be booked in for another few weeks and will get a scan when I see my consultant then.

Berries - how stressful for you. I think asking for a HCG test would be a good idea, but bear in mind they won't be able to tell you anything until they do a second one a day or two later because it's the rate the HCG is rising at and not the absolute level which will tell them.

If anyone is like me and prefers a more research driven approach to what you can eat / drink etc during pregnancy - then I really recommend the book "Expecting Better". It puts a lot of the risks into perspective with proper research and stats. I wasn't willing to give up coffee unless strictly necessary Grin

orangehair any thoughts on what kind of buggy I should look out for with a hopefully 2y 4 month old. Do you still reckon I'd need a double? If so will try to flog the travel system I bought and keep an eye out for a city mini double - love my city mini gt. Should have bought one in the first place.

Christinedonna · 04/12/2015 09:09

il do a bit of research, if it's purely for my benefit il continue to take them first thing in the morning as I just know that after eating and everything else il probably get too distracted and forget. Touch wood, they haven't seemed to have an connection won me feeling sick yet

FourForYouGlenCoco · 04/12/2015 09:26

berries how are you feeling today?? Better I hope! Brown bleeding is so so common in pregnancy, think asking for hcg test is a good idea, it'll help put your mind at rest.
Hello and congrats to everyone joining Smile nice to see you all!
Christine I take pg vits at night before bed, I forget at other times! So not on a full stomach but not a completely empty one either. I've not noticed any side effects but I do feel worst in the mornings so maybe linked? Still the best option for me though I think!
Speaking of mornings, what's everyone eating for breakfast? I'm finding that I'm waking up feeling yuk and everything I've tried (cereal, toast, fruit, yoghurt) seems to kickstart the sickness. I feel like if I could find the magic breakfast combo I'll be ok, so looking for some ideas!

Christinedonna · 04/12/2015 09:45

I can't really manage breakfast atm..I have a bit of lunch then on a rare occasion some dinner. It's a lot easier for me to snack atm (or it would be if we had any chocolate in the house) probably for the best. I have however been wanting tuna for days now so I've just polished off a tuna baguette. Now I feel a nap coming on

lilygirl81 · 04/12/2015 09:57

Morning

I felt so sick and tired this morning, but did manage to force down some cereal.

I got a pregnancy cook book, and one of the suggestions for breakfast was a toasted whole meal muffin with melted mozzarella and tomato. I asked DH to get the muffins as this sounds like something I might be able to deal with, he came home with blueberry American muffins Confused. Safe to say I've just eaten them as they are, without added cheese! The sweetheart did also buy things in case toast appealed, and a cereal he thought wouldn't turn my stomach and was high fibre.

I've been taking my vitamin before bed with all my other tablets, may change to with dinner now,

Flybynight1 · 04/12/2015 11:38

I've been having readybrek for breakfast with honey-DH wanted me to have 'proper' porridge but I prefer the texture of readybrek. We stood in the supermarket playing 'nutritional top trumps' with the different boxes and readybrek did seem to come out slightly better because it is fortified with some added vitamins including folic acid, so I got my way Smile.

Welcome Elle I have the same edd as you Smile sorry to hear about your mc, when did you have the early scan? I'm booked in for 7w3d for a 'feasibility' scan hoping that it will give us some confidence to tell family for Christmas... I'm seeing the midwife at 7w4d but that's because it'll be Xmas eve and otherwise they won't really be open until January. The midwife apparently doesn't want to see people before 8 weeks which I find a bit scary!! Are you having many symptoms?

lily bless your DH!! I think mine would have done something very similar (especially on account of him liking toasted cheese on cinnamon and raisin bagels!). Hope you get some rest over the weekend Smile

Christinedonna · 04/12/2015 12:25

Can I just ask how everyone knows dates they'll first see their midwife/have scans? I was literally told a midwife will contact me when they need to.

Christinedonna · 04/12/2015 12:33

I've just rang the liason office for midwives (the number I was given at the doctors) and told il hear from them in 3 or 4 weeks

Jw35 · 04/12/2015 12:52

Still not feeling sick yet at 5.2. I actually wish I did so I could feel more pregnant! I do have fatigue though. Can't get anything done!

I'm going to call the doctor next week when I'm 6 weeks and book a midwife appointment. The midwife will arrange your scan at the appointment.

ToElleWithIt · 04/12/2015 13:01

FlybyNight - last time it was at 5 weeks I think 5+ maybe.

No symptoms here yet, but I got off really lightly last time so fingers crossed.

I take fish oil liquid - utterly rancid!

lilygirl81 · 04/12/2015 13:04

I got the booklet where they put all your pregnancy notes at my appointment yesterday, the entries start from 8 weeks, so it does seem they really start everything then. Mine did say they like to get you booked in early though, but I'm really not sure the point. She would probably have been more positive if I'd not told her about the inconclusive early scan.

Christine I think those of us with scan dates either have previous histories of problems, so are being monitored a bit more, or have booked private early scans before Christmas to give us confidence to tell family etc.

I went to order the fortune cookies we are using to tell the family, then decided I'd better hold off until after my next scan, but now thinking it will be too near Christmas. I know it's not possible to jinx things, but I'm daft like that

FourForYouGlenCoco · 04/12/2015 13:05

Christine don't worry, I've not made any appts or anything yet. I'll probably ring in a week or two and get a booking in appt a couple of weeks after that. Likewise early scan, I'll be throwing myself on the mercy of the on-call GP, who'll need to refer me!
The first midwife appt is just an exercise in form-filling; provided you know your diet advice (ie folic acid, limit vit A, etc), then unless you have a known health issue it's really not urgent. Once you get past the 12 week scan into the 15+ week appts it gets much more interesting!

Christinedonna · 04/12/2015 13:18

I'm also interested to know anything everyone's taking vitamin wise. I'm only on pregnacare

Ihavetheorangehair · 04/12/2015 14:18

Elle, I think a side by side is the best tbh. Nobody likes the back seat! My youngest is 2 1/2 and if I want to get anything done quickly or efficiently, I have to put her in the buggy and she still gets tired walking around the shops so needs the buggy or I end up carrying her. A friend of mine got a perfect second hand one on done deal recently so it's worth looking (also in Ireland). That said it is wider and more cumbersome than a single so it depends on what you do everyday. I'd imagine my lo will be in a buggy another year. My five year old too if I'd let her!

BunchOfBobs · 04/12/2015 14:22

Hi all,
Can I join? Just got my bfp today. My first. Rather excited and nervous but trying to reign it in as online calculators only saying 4 weeks.

BergamotMouse · 04/12/2015 14:46

Congratulations bunch. I was on the TTC thread with you! How exciting for you - quick work!

BunchOfBobs · 04/12/2015 15:09

Hi Bergamot, thank you. How is pregnancy treating you? It's all so strange as I don't feel pregnant but the tests say I am. Not really sure what to do with myself at the minute.

BergamotMouse · 04/12/2015 16:35

It felt so strange to start with bunch so know how you feel, just like it wasn't really happening. I'm getting my head around it now and nausea has started recently. I've discovered that eating every 3 hours helps but dreading how much weight I'll put on.
