If you're due in November 2015, well here's your ante natal club! Come and talk about vomit inducing man-scents, cheese roasties you simply cannot do without/or stand, the picked ice cream you must have right now, and the bubbling desire to tell the world but checking dates to restrain yourself!

hi all!

I'm desperate to start buying things, DP and I somehow wound up in Baby Gap the other day and my heart was melting at the tiny fisherman jumpers!

To all those chatting hair dye, I don't suppose anyone bleaches their hair and carried on doing it throughout a previous pregnancy? Sad I have had bright white/pearly/grey bleached hair for the past few years which I love and I'm now having to face the prospect of growing it out, can't believe how expensive highlights are. It's really messing with my self esteem having my roots as bad as they stand right now, I'm dreading having to go back to brown Blush Shallow I know!

Hi all,

Has anyone been to their booking in appointments yet? Had mine on Tuesday and midwife mentioned the Whooping cough vaccine. Does anyone have any thoughts on it?

Also Anti D injection as I'm Brh- although my DP is Orh- so I dont think I need it but midwife seems to think I should 'just in case' just in case what...my DP isn't the father?! rh- and rh- can only produce a rh- baby?!

Well I dont want anything that I don't need so will be refusing them. I know who my baby's father is!

Focusfocus · 10/04/2015 12:13

I had my booking in appointment today with our absolutely lovely midwife. We really like our local hospital, it's four minutes from us, and they have an I house acupuncture team specialising in maternity, and available during labour! I loved the appointment, and we will anyway be going for both whooping cough and flu vaccines and the downs screening and all other screenings offered. So there was nothi much to decide really. Had a great chat, gave bloods and all set for a scan tomorrow at 10 weeks going on 11 (private, by choice) and the nhs scan on exactly the day I turn 12 weeks. Very happy with my local nhs trust and once again, I left praising the nhs :)

I hope everyone has a positive experience! And that you all have nice midwives!

TwoBees Lucozade has been my pregnancy saviour! Not only for low blood sugar but it also fends off the nausea so well.

Dottie, I had my booking in appointment a few week ago and I'm being offered the whooping cough vaccine. I'll probably be having it as the baby won't be protected for the first few months. It's a personal choice though.

I'm dyeing my hair this weekend (dark brown) when I'll be 12 weeks. I would have dyed it earlier but I've been too lazy. Again, it's a personal choice but I'm a researcher by trade and it always surprises me how much shoddy 'evidence' there is out there about pregnancy. I'm also drinking coffee and eating runny eggs Blush

Crumbelina · 10/04/2015 12:14

And no one's going to stop me having a glass of Prosecco on my birthday next month. Smile

annatha · 10/04/2015 12:42

A baby died from whooping cough a few years ago here in Cumbria so I think that's the reason for the jab getting more widely available.

nehagarg · 10/04/2015 12:45

Sorry to jump in … Just a quick question - Has anyone here only ever had their first scan at 12 weeks? Everyone on mumsnet seems to have had an early scan. :) … Since this is my first ever pregnancy and I am generally healthy, i haven't been asked to come in before the 12 weeks and I was wondering if I am missing something. Cheers :)

BleachedBarnet · 10/04/2015 12:46

I'm well aboard the runny-eggs-and-coffee train Crumb I've cut back to one coffee and day and I make sure my eggs have the lion mark - risks that I'm willing to take for my own sanity!

My GP mentioned the whooping cough vaccine at my very first app, and I imagine the midwife will mention it again at my booking in app on Tues. I am anticipating DP will need to have blood tests as my mother carries the gene for thalassemia so I have a chance of being a carrier too. He's white as can be though (ginger beard ahoy!) so the risk is smaller I think but I'm not clued up. Are you asked for a thorough medical history at booking in? My mum's estranged from her family so I have no idea on her side what could be lurking...

dottiemad · 10/04/2015 12:56

Nehagarg, First pregancy here also, no problems so also having my first scan at 12 weeks...only 2.5 weeks :-)

When is your scan? Have you had your booking in appoint yet?

x

Bleach They didnt ask extensive questions but perhaps you would just mention that you are unsure about mums side?

Crumbelina · 10/04/2015 13:00

Don'y worry Neha! Most of these early scans are private ones (that costs around £60-100). We're just impatient buggers. Smile I had a private one at 8 weeks as I didn't want to wait.

Smile Bleached. I'm the same. I savour my one Pret latte and look for the lion on eggs.

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 10/04/2015 13:01

Whooping cough is towards the end- 30 weeks or so I think. I had it at 35 weeks in my first pregnancy.
I only had 12 week scan with my first pregnancy. Had an early one this time because I had a missed miscarriage just before Christmas and was anxious about this one. Totally fine to only have the 12 week one though! Am early scan can't tell you anything that you can make a difference to. It just provides a bit of reassurance if you're anxious.

annatha · 10/04/2015 13:05

ladies craving crisps/shitey foods- have you tried walkers mix ups? I have a rapidly emptying bag of the spicy ones and they're amazing. Spicy wotsits where have you been all my life? DH isn't impressed.

dottiemad · 10/04/2015 13:11

Cheesy watsits for me :-)

nehagarg · 10/04/2015 13:12

Grand … Thanks everyone. I have been wanting to go for a private one too but DH keeps saying no! I suppose I have to agree with him. If I had an early scan, it would put my mind at ease for about 10 minutes before I'd be back to square 1 … :)

dottiemad - my scan is on the 25th. Booking in on the 23rd. Its only 2 weeks, but its the longest 2 weeks of my life. When is yours?

dottiemad · 10/04/2015 13:17

Scan 28th :-) Can't wait!

annatha · 10/04/2015 13:22

nehagarg I was tempted but it wouldn't stop me worrying either, if everything was fine I'd still be convinced something would go wrong after. If you are wanting to have a private scan maybe consider having a 3d one later on. My friend has her 3d scan picture and her dd's newborn picture in a double frame. The 3d one gave a really clear look at her face.

reb2g08 · 10/04/2015 13:22

Urghhh I just had my booking blood test and I don't think I had drunk enough. The phlebotomist had to do both arms and a vein in my hand finally as blood kept stopping coming out! It was torture!
Got to have another one with the scan Hmm

SnozzberryPie · 10/04/2015 13:29

Dottie I think I would refuse them in your position, as you are the one person who knows 100 percent who the dad is. I suppose it makes sense for them to say that everyone has to have them because then women who have reason to doubt the baby's paternity can just say that they are having them because that is what the midwife recommended. The midwife will.just want to ensure that everyone is protected without needing to admit they have been unfaithful.

I will be having the whooping cough vaccine when it is offered - it can be fatal for babies so worth it Imo.

Dp kindly made me sandwiches today, took one bite and realised they were blue cheese....

SnozzberryPie · 10/04/2015 13:30

Sorry, whooping cough can be fatal, not the vaccine Smile

nehagarg · 10/04/2015 13:37

Best of luck dottiemad .. I wont be convinced I am pregnant till I see this baby. Let us know how it goes :)

annatha I hear you. The worry is non-stop. A 3D one is a good idea. I should start feeding it to my DH from now on, so he doesn't think I am wanting a scan out of needless panic :)

BlueBananas · 10/04/2015 13:39

Just got my scan date Grin so excitinngggg
