Hi all. Hope everyone is well.
Had a lovely time in London thanks. Went to The Natural History Museum which was brill. V tiring trip though, and dd was really unsettled at bed time due to the b fireworks. Ended up having to give her some medised to help her sleep. We also shared a room with her and I don't know about you guys, but every time she moved I woke up! So, was glad to get home in a way, although the fireworks last night, were again a pain in the neck!
Not much to report really. Feeling as if turning a corner with the old nausea, and feeling quite upbeat today. I think it helped that dd slept in until 7.30 and was fab when she got up - really happy, no moaning, and was very helpful and compliant! Makes such a difference.
Anyway, have a happy Monday and catch up later on. xx

Runnyhabit is queen of the clothes suggestions - I am living in the black trousers she recommended (also from Dorothy Ps)!! Now I just need a sparkly top to go with them for DH's christmas do, ideally in gold...

Just remembered an "ahhhh" moment from my weekend (knew it wasn't all just tiring): we're making up a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child, where you fill it with toys and things and they send it off to developing countries. After initial resistance, DD (who's nearly 4) got really into it - imagining the little girl who didn't even have a toothbrush etc (one of the things we got), and agreed to part with several of her toys to go into it! Now I just have to hide it until next Sat, when we go to drop it off, in case she has a change of heart!!

Hi girls - go away for a weekend and have a lot to catch up on!!!

Help I am a complete cloth nappy virgin and need some advice as I got really confused... with all the advice given ( - I am simple) I did try terries with my first for about a week and couldn't get on with them at all!!!! So help...

Also any advice - that you can give on breastfeeding would be welcomed as couldn't do it with ds cos I had a blood transfusion and all my milk dried up - so only managed two days!!!!

I am looking forward to trying the bf and the cloth nappies to try and do my bit for the environment and my bank balance in the long run!!

OOOggs where abouts in Cornwall are you from? As I haven't lived here long and would love a friend????

dh has gone away now for 3 weeks I didn't think that I would be upset this time as I am so use to hime going away for long periods of time... but cried like a little baby!! Must be my hormones...

Sorry for the long post but had lots to catch up on...

Take care everyone!!!

Love the idea of the Xmas box, Bramshot - how do you go about it?

to hear your New Years plans went t*ts up, weeonion - sounded like such a nice idea, too. We haven't any plans as no idea yet if DH will be off or not. Don't know about Christmas yet, either which is a pain but usually the case as he rarely gets his Christmas rota before mid-November. I'm not a big fan of New Year TBH, I usually go to bed before midnight and pretend it isn't happening.

Well, I'd hesitate to use the word blooming but I am feeling much better these days - lots more energy & I keep forgetting I'm pg so it's racing by, can't believ I'm nearly 18 weeks already. Still get knackered in the evenings but that's more to do with dd being up at the crack of dawn I think.

CornflakeKid · 06/11/2006 14:26

I have had a sneaky look in a friends next directory and they have a maternity mink coloured dress for £30 and some nice low shoes to match - but think will pop into Dorothy Perkins to have a look for something before go for that. Have a blooming marv & jojo maman here - not very inspiring clothes though. Most of my christmas do's are going out for meals so don't need the full glam look - nice black maternity dress in La Redoute with a satin bow - but a bit ott for what I need this year.

I can just see my feet still

Have 1 hour left til school run - and ds2 fast asleep in car with cosy blanket wrapped round him! peace at last...!

muminamini · 06/11/2006 14:29

CFK -Thanks - got size 2 as trying out on DS at night before commit to big purchase for new baby

CornflakeKid · 06/11/2006 14:36

Good idea MIAM

hamburger related acronym

NORWICH

(k)Nickers Off Ready When I Come Home

Can you tell the sickness has worn off???!!!

muminamini · 06/11/2006 14:43

Hi everyone

I too am just enjoying the silence! DS is at nursery until I have to pick him up at about 4.30...loads of annoying housework irritating me but just don't feel like doing anything this afternoon. I seem to go from having loads of energy to none whatsoever and I definatley feel the latter this afternoon.

Had really irritating morning at work....everyone ill and no appointments - it's very stressful as it's difficult to try and prioritise who REALLY needs to be seen and who can wait a bit longer...managed to help a fellow PG lady tho - 37 weeks with v bad sickness and diarrohea and just feeling dreadful and the local maternity unit had refused to see her.......I was worried for her as thats how my labour started!

Anyway I'm sure you don't want to all hear about my work!

Been reading alot in mags etc about Group B Strep infection and when I asked our midwife she told me they don't test for it.. (I know it has to be done alot nearer giving birth). Just wondered if other areas got a routine screening...I think I wil demand it nearer the time as some of the articles I have read have been v scary, seems a bit silly not to screen for it if it could avoid a potential problem?

More worries eh!

Sorry to go random but....

Girls Aloud have recorded a cover of Tiffanys' I think we're alone now... they have just played it on radio 1.... its fantastic!!!!! Just been dancing around the office!!!!!

muminamini · 06/11/2006 15:18

LMAO!!!

Oh thats fantastic - my DH's best friend gets ribbed every time that record ever comes on as when he was younger he had a big crush on Tiffany...looks like he's in for more mickey taking to come then!

God don't you feel really old when they start doing cover versions of the songs from your youth........

liath · 06/11/2006 15:45

OMG - have only just figured out the hamburger comment . Am a bit slow today.

I think Girls Aloud are fab! Really must go CD shopping, have bought 2 CDs since I had dd (not including flaming nursery rhyme CDs) which is pitiful. Have only been to the cinema once which is even more pitiful.

nuttygirl · 06/11/2006 17:28

Well...it's taken me ages to catch up on the news...

DH, me and his friend went to a bonfire on Fri. Got there just in time for fireworks that only lasted 15mins then everyone went home...so not really worth it and I didn't get a hot dog cos the queue was so long .

Went shopping on Sat, stocked the freezer up with stuff from the local market (much cheaper & fresher than supermarkets). Went to farmer's market on Sunday and bought some more stuff for freezer (it's overflowing!!!). Also got some yummy jam for my crumpets!!!

Later on Sun went to York for more shopping and got some knee length boots - told hubby they were for his xmas party so he didn't object to me spending his hard earned cash!!!! Then met up with some friends and went for chinese (all u can eat buffet) and stuffed my face .

Am def planning on b/f baby but a bit worried cos my mum & sister didn't manage it...still at least there's no pressure on me! Hoping there'll be more advice and stuff nowadays and I'll be able to.

I've bought planet wrecking nappies for when baby is first born ...not sure about struggling with other types in hospital and didn't want to worry about it. Thinking of using greener methods once back at home but v confused by all the types out there....i'm really stupid!!! Also a bit worried about DH managing with anything that doesn't come as a one piece....have lost count of the number of stupid things he's said since i got pg, but here's 2 examples:

On seeing cotton buds in supermarket (baby aisle) "are those for sticking up the baby's nose".

On seeing the (tiny!!!) sample of nappy cream received as a freebie "wow...we've got loads of nappy cream, we won't have to buy any!!!"

weeonion · 06/11/2006 17:31

LOL at girls aluod reference. wondering what will you all play to yr bump. dp and i have debates over it already and he has started work on my labour Dc ( i thought it was better to give him a job to do early!!)

LOL LOL LOL at the NORWICH ref. have to get a variant for when dp is due home!!
had a "long lie-in" on sunday - really lovely start to fireworks day. my muim asked if we were tired as she had been ringing all morning.... lol

CaptainDippy · 06/11/2006 19:37

Ooooh, that DP dress looks lovely - my boobies are waaaaay to big for straps like that though. Primark opened here last Thursday morning, so I'm planning my 1st little trip there tomorrow morning- Way hey!! I am a HUGE Primark fan!!!!

My brain is a bit addled this evening, so won't say much, but just popping in to say "hi!"

Feeling v. @ MIL & FIL right now ........ looooooooong story!!

runnyhabbit · 06/11/2006 21:28

Evening all

Glad to be of service re clothes

CD - If it makes you feel any better, I couldn't have worn the dress pre-pregnancy, cos I didn't have any boobs to fill it! Seriously, I have gone from A cup to C cup, and I now have a cleavage without having to resort to a Wonderbra (my own personal perk of pregnancy)
Primark have got some really good stuff, but the one in Cardiff seems a bit hit and miss iyswim.

btw - my friend had her 2nd ds on Saturday! waters broke at 3.30pm, gave birth at 5.15pm, and they were on their way home by 8pm. Talk about efficient all doing fine

EllieK · 06/11/2006 21:36

hi all

LMAO at your DH nutty

I too have lost the ability to see my toes, bump not boobs getting in the way, disappointingly

was going to ask what on earth the hamburger thing was all about but finally worked it out

ggf at your dh, acclimatise my backside!

MIAM group b strep test has only recently been introduced as standard here (suffolk), when i had ds 3 yrs ago it didn't exist, in the last few months they now offer it.

as for new year, no idea what i will do, i will have ds but may invite friends round to mine for party instead. I have a suuggestion for you weeonion, why not use that cottage you were planning to go to and take your fellow scots mumsnetters with you?!!!!

EllieK · 06/11/2006 21:41

rh i started out an a cup before ds and grew to a d cup, was still a c cp 3 yrs later! unfortunately that has meant i'm already a dd cup this time!

and weeonion i went clubbing lots while pg with ds and he hated lullaby tapes when born, would doze off to robbie williams in moments tho! and at 3 he can already count to 10, recognises numbers, reads some letters and small words and is generally too bright for his own good! so it's not just classical that has benefits x

EllieK · 06/11/2006 22:15

just stumbled across these threads and wondered if they would be of any interest to ladies on here?
Over 35 and pregnant? - "Mature" ladies walk this way...
calling all mature mums - pregnant at 43

Just5minspeace · 06/11/2006 22:17

My goodness this goes on forever. Think I started reading at 6o'clock! Was fine first trimester now feeling emotional, stressed out and wondering if I'll make it through to maternity leave. Thank God for 9mths off not 6!! As for breast size - my backside is growing just as fast... and it is not even helping cushion the backache!

weeonion · 07/11/2006 09:27

good morning folks! i agree - what a long long thread!
ellie k - v at yr pg clubbing! i dont feel glam enough to head to my usual haunts!

geordiemacminx · 07/11/2006 09:33

doghouse · 07/11/2006 09:55

Thanks everyone for useful info on bf-ing and nappies - great for us 1st timers.

Apparently my bottom is growing too - my DH enlightened me on that, thanks!

Haven't much to say, just bumbling along quite happily. Back to Somerset for the weekend to see my Mum which will be nice. Any news on the Somerset meet up by the way?
