Ah don't worry Stetsons, this is an ongoing battle! Every other appointment I see a horrid witch of a MW who tells me all sorts of horrible things and leaves me in a panic for two weeks, until I see the nice MW who reassures me! Last time she said I'd have to have blood-thinning injections because of my BMI and refused to listen to what I told her about haemorrhaging in the past and how my blood is actually fairly thin already.

Stetsons, I've had unexplained ketones in urine too but mw was completely up fussed. Two subsequent tests have come up with nothing.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 02/12/2014 21:50

Three jingle babies arrived today. I dont know their user names and I am busy feeding a veloceraptor. will get someone elsento update. Grin

StetsonsAreCool · 02/12/2014 22:23

PEace, sounds like a bit of a rollercoaster! Be good to have the baby just to see the back of them Wink Although hopefully you don't get the witch one for your home visits afterwards!

Monkey, my mw was completely unfaZed too. It's only after to got home and started overthinking it that it really registered!

Three more babies? Yikes! This feels like the last antenatal thread I was on - Dd was born late in the month Grin Good news is good though!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 02/12/2014 23:57

Oh my goodness are we up to six/seven now? It's only 2nd December! Do we have a post-natal thread yet?

Oh and I discovered the horrors of perineal massage tonight.
Me: "ConfusedConfusedConfused"
Him: "does that hurt? Why are you making that face?"
Me: "yes...no...I don't even know Confused"

Soon as I can get to my laptop I'l let you know who they were and do a proper update.

Hate to break it to you but I did the dread massage a lot, but still tore when baby came out a lot faster that she shoulda done! Saving grace is that even though my tear is pretty savage, it doesn't hurt that much. Except when I sneeze....Sad

Lucy90 · 03/12/2014 07:27

Whats a pereneal massage? Am i too late to start it now?

CallingAllEngels · 03/12/2014 08:51

Morning all!

DS at nursery and lots to do (need to get car seat and pram sorted) but have a rotten cold so feeling sorry for myself.

To update for new babies since BHLS is dealing with a nb!

02/12/14
Chipsandspuds baby girl
Polythenegirl baby girl

and another little girl, but I can't find mum's MN user name anywhere!

And 3 people (squidgebaby, missjasper and someone else whose MN name I can't find!) said their waters have broken in the last 12 hours so reckon they're going to keep on coming!

I have a feeling I'm going to end up overdue and lonely near the end as everyone has their babies - not due till 28th December!

36+3

CallingAllEngels · 03/12/2014 08:53

That's a lot of exclamation marks. Sorry.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 03/12/2014 09:40

Engels I'm not due until 27th and no signs of anything happening. Midwife even said they'd let me go to 42 weeks (10th January!!!) if nothing happened Shock

Lucy... Apparently internally massaging/stretching the perineum can help avoid tears in birth, but obviously it doesn't always work. I'm going to try it for as long as I can bear it! It doesn't really hurt, just feels very odd and I don't really want to be touched there ever.

OP posts:
espa · 03/12/2014 09:49

I'm too scared to try it Sad

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 03/12/2014 09:55

Espa it's a good way of practicing your breathing technique!!

Lucy90 · 03/12/2014 11:29

Ahh i may give it a go!

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 03/12/2014 17:32

actually yes. it was useful in the respect that although it didn't stop me tearing like I was already perforated, it did familirise me with the weirdness of the sensation of stretching therebwhich I think might have been quite scary else!

CallingAllEngels · 03/12/2014 17:35

10th of january peace ? ! I really hope not!

Update!

The person whose MN name I couldn't find was Presidentspreadable (little girl yesterday).

And stationaryace has just posted she had a little girl this morning.

LordJabuJabu also just posted that she had a girl this morning.

There's no stopping them now!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 03/12/2014 18:36

3/7 of my ante natal group are girls so far too. Hope it's the month for girls!Smile

espa · 03/12/2014 20:43

Just had a clary sage oil bath on the recommendation of my neighbour...let's see if this works!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 03/12/2014 21:36

One of my NCT group has had her baby by EMCS and another has been kept in tonight with contractions, so it's all getting exciting on MN and in real life! I just had to go for a bath because I had a banging headache and then dreadful cramps. DH is being marvellous and doing all the housework while I sit around in my dressing gown.

Chips1999 · 04/12/2014 03:32

Hello, just checking in before I go back to sleep, had a baby girl on 2nd Dec weighing 8lbs exactly!

My active labour was recorded as 1 hour 23 minutes Shock

Things started off at 11:00am, I had one contraction every 15 minutes until 12:00pm. Somehow on the second contraction I 'knew' it was the start of labour so I called DH at 11:30am to let him know. We agreed to wait until 12:00pm and make a decision whether he should come home from work or not.

At 12:00 I called DH and asked him to come home from work. I had 2 paracetemol, toast and got in the bath.

The contractions increased to once every 8 minutes whilst I was in the bath. From about 13:00pm the contractions were about 5 minutes apart.

DH got home at 13:15 and we agreed he would go and pick up DS from nursery, bring him home and leave DS with DM and then we would go straight to the hospital.

We left for the hospital at 14:00pm and arrived there at 14:20pm. There were no car parking spaces for DH to drop me off so I did 'the walk' again from the car park to the maternity building. Last time with DS, DM was convinced I was going to give birth in the car park Grin A lovely lady helped us for the last part of the walk and helped us into the lift as I had to keep stopping frequently for each contraction.

I was examined on arrival and 8cms dilated. I was asking for gas and air as the pain was very intense. I was only in the midwife led unit for about 15 minutes when my waters broke, and there was meconium in the waters. I was transferred straightaway upstairs to the normal labour ward and delivered a lovely baby girl at 15:23pm.

The birth felt very different to DS's, I think once my waters broke the pain was too intense, too quickly so I was struggling to breathe though the contractions. Also DS was born in a birthing pool and I made no noises and felt everything happening. This time I felt quite out of it and didn't feel in control. My midwife was excellent though and had a great voice, I could hear her voice and DH's through the pain and I tried to listen and do what they were telling me to do. I was pushing for 9 minutes apparently and DH and the midwife had a leg each to push open as I think I was trying to shut my legs!

As soon as baby was born I could feel myself coming back to planet earth! I had an injection to get the placenta out quickly and DH cut the cord. I had skin to skin straightaway which was brilliant.

I couldn't stop shaking afterwards, the midwife said this was just the adrenaline and it stopped after about 10 minutes.

I have a second degree tear (again), but that's fine, I will look after it and hopefully it will heal up fast!

I managed to breastfeed whilst we were kept in hospital overnight and for the first 24 hours. Once we got home I decided to move onto formula feeding as I thought I'd only do the first one or two breastfeeds. My nipples are cracked and sore, and although I know it can be overcome, I'm happy to formula feed as I feel much more confident and I am enjoying my baby.

DS has been brilliant! He just woke up a short while ago asking for rice cakes and wanted to sleep in bed with me so that's fine. I'm concentrating on giving him lots of cuddles too and lots of praise for him!

DH was absolutely amazing once again! Even though it was such a different birth experience to the first he was very calm and having his voice helped me through the worst of it.

Sorry it's a huge post, but nice to write it all down!

Roonerspism · 04/12/2014 03:45

chips lovely story - huge congratulations. You sounded very chilled about the car park walk :) think I would have worried about giving bitth outside!
