I've seen the group for May or June, but are there any other definite Junes yet?
Been getting faint positive lines for a few days but today have got a definite line, giving me a due date of around 6th June :)

Trying to stay cautiously optimistic at the moment as we had an MMC in May at 8 weeks.

So, who else is out there? :)

I've just looked at their twitter, it looks like it's still only available in the NW :(

Although they do say on their site to get in contact as they may have a midwife in your area.

Oh wow! Thankyou detective! Clearly you've jumped ever further up my list of lovely mw's! Grin I'm going to have a good read now.

I've had 2 home births so confident that suits me better than hosp environment, just need to be sure an mw is going to not fob me off and believe me when I say I go from 1-10cm in an hour! Ds's head was huge last time. First baby with new dh. I was pushing 20 mins at home alone before I had any assistance. His large head ruptured my lower bowel, chipped my tail bone, I had 4 reconstructive bowel surgeries last year. It took 2 years 3 months to get right following his birth. In the mean time I was bed bound and couldn't walk far. Driving was excruciating. It affected everything. I just can't let that happen again.

Blush Blush Blush

Awww, thank you!

No, absolutely not. I think you would find that they wouldn't leave again, given your history. Well, certainly we wouldn't. We'd hang around for an hour or two at least. Or until you told us to bugger off because it had stopped!

You definitely need to discuss the details further. I think an IM sounds a very good option if you find you can't get the reassurance you need elsewhere.

I wanted to be an IM when I qualified. Sadly, I couldn't because of finances and childcare, and being a single mother at the time!

Maybe it would Sunbathing Grin. Or maybe not Wink. I tried not to tell the midwife at booking last time, and I ended up making her really cross. So I told her! Blush. I always feel really bad though. I am just another mum having a baby who just so happens to know a little too much.

You'd think I'd be really anxious knowing all the things that can happen - but I'm not at all Shock. Totally chilled aside from the fecking hyperemesis. :)

You know in the NHS in England, we don't get the bank holidays when on maternity leave Shock even though the fecking law says we should! I'll just get my 29 days. They get around it because we get more AL than the law states Hmm. Nut NHS Scotland gave them to their staff last year. Angry

I'll be able to take 29 days (5 wks 4 days) plus 2 weeks of the new annual leave year so almost 8 weeks. Which means hopefully baby will be well over 10.5 months when I go back.

Envious all our rooms are the same in our hospital, apart from the one with the pool in. But we move the equipment around. All rooms have a patient line TV, radio/cd/docking station, bed, birth ball, and we have mats and beanbags available. You would probably be better just to state you want these things available to you should you require them.

Depending on hospital, and depending on risk factors, the pool may be an option for you. Well, I insisted, but that's by the by. Remember it is your birth, your body, your baby. There is no such thing as 'allowed'.

I think we need to start a FB group - if there isn't one already?!

Yes, I'm on the Nov 12 MN group and we have a private FB that can't be found by anyone. I'll sort it out now and figure out how to add people later Grin.

TheDetective · 16/10/2014 00:35

Okay, so I need people to PM me their name (if wanting to be added) and a description of their picture so I can find them!

MrsExtraOrdinary · 16/10/2014 00:37

Detective im really glad you don't think I'm a fruit loop for looking into independent midwives. The one I found does a package to include massage. She was my doulas independent mw for her 4th baby. I love the idea completely selfish of having anti natal visits at home too. And that she'd visit me up to 6 weeks after the birth. My womb never goes down very quickly and i bleed forever. 16 wks with dd. Also had a major bleed last time at 6wks because silly midwife yanked the placenta out on a physiological 3rd stage. I just want calm without the rush and panic. I was rushed into hosp by ambulance last time and made to feel a complete failure. And yet they were the ones who couldn't be bothered to show up.

TheDetective · 16/10/2014 00:40

No, I completely get it.

I can't say much online, but I really do understand.

I'd be lying if I said I knew Sunbathing. I do believe it is random. But I can't back that up with anything other than a vague recollection right now.

Early pregnancy isn't my field of expertise, as all early pregnancy complications are dealt with in the Gynaecology departments where I have ever worked.

Sunbathing, after i has my mmc I read up alot on mmc and future risks and it does appear that it is completely random and the likelihood of a subsequent mmc is not increased. Of course it can happen, i've a friend who had 2 mmc but then went on to have her 3rd successful pregnancy.
The gyne dept also told me that in most cases the mmc occurs due to chromosomal abnormalities that are not compatible with live, in a way i take comfort that nature does know best and that if the baby i lost was born it would of had sever problems. The first 12 weeks will b the most stressful, take everyday as it comes, today you are pregnant. I'm aiming for my nxt milestone of 9+3 now, thats the date i discovered the mmc but my baby was no where near that gestation.
Detective, i'll pm you, i'm on the May 15 fb page, so will join the June 15 aswell Grin

I'm going with one to one midwives. Only problem is that all that Gps in my area (West Yorkshire) have been told not to refer anyone to them. My GP said it's all politics, not their service. So I have to book in with my community midwife and then transfer my care once I'm booked in with the hospital.

Undecided on the birth. I may need another c section, which was a really positive experience for me as it was planned, it totally depends on a condition I have flaring up. Otherwise, a home birth really does appeal to me.

Last time I never saw the same midwife twice and struggled to contact anyone if I has concerns. I ended up switching hospitals too as I wasn't happy with my local infirmary.

cuphat · 16/10/2014 08:22

Last time, I saw one midwife throughout - it just seems to be standard in this area. If I'd had a home birth she would have been my midwife but I had an elective c-section (I didn't want a home birth anyway - was originally aiming for the midwife led unit). She also came to visit numerous times after the birth, to do my clexane injections and weigh baby etc. The continuation of care was great.

It sounds like I'm going to have the same midwife throughout again, as the pack mentioned having a named midwife, and she's called to introduce herself and arrange the booking appointment.

JennyOfOldstones · 16/10/2014 08:40

Morning ladies! Lots of interesting posts overnight, I feel very lucky to have so many clued up ladies to chat to! As this is my first I don't have any idea what would be best, I would love a home birth but not sure how I will cope with the pain. My local hospital has a new midwife-led unit so that seems like a good compromise. And yay to a Facebook group I am dying to see all your faces and if anyone is local!
