What's the ONS list pink (I first read it as Hons list and expected the Mitford sisters and their wonderful names to come up!)

Do any of your downloads come recommended? We too have a really common surname so a slightly different first name might be nice. My brother and I have really common first names, but a really, really unusual surname.

coastergirl · 06/10/2014 18:09

I think it's the Office of National Statistics? The list of most popular names given to babies in any given year. We are trying to avoid anything mega popular just so that he/she isn't one of six in the same class, but we're not fans of really unusual/whacky names either!

pinkandstripey · 06/10/2014 18:32

Yes sorry, office of national statistics :) I think the full list goes down to something like 3 babies per year with that name, so pretty comprehensive :)

The only book I've got left on my kindle is 'best baby names for 2013' by siobhan Thomas. Must have been alright cos it's still on there!! ;)

pinkandstripey · 06/10/2014 18:36

And if you wants the hons baby names, try announcements.thetimes.co.uk/celebration/timesonline-uk/celebrations-search.aspx?announcementtype=16&daterange=99999 for inspiration :)

Hi everyone. Loving the name chat!

Just wondered is anyone is having pains in stomach or lower back and stomach (especially stomach). I've read 'stretching' pains are ok but 'cramps' aren't but I just can't put my finger on the difference. I'm 16+4.

Wish it was 20 week scan. So tempted to go private but so worried they'll tell me there's something not quite right then I need to worry til my nhs scan. What to do; what to do???

pinkandstripey · 06/10/2014 18:47

If you go private and there was something amiss, I'd just go to a&e. I booked an early scan at a place which doesn't do early scans(not intentionally!) as they don't have the support in place if something is wrong, and that was my plan.

Hope you're ok x

fishfingerSarnies · 06/10/2014 18:57

M33r I've been having lots of pains the past few days, I'd describe some as stabbing pains some as more cramps aches also had back pain.
It's all quite normal I'm sure, if a pain is something to worry about I figure you'd "know" iyswim.
I remember finding this time really uncomfortable with my first pregnancy (and worrying loads about the pains.) Personaly I wouldn't bother with a private scan, 20 week will be here before you know it.

m33r · 06/10/2014 19:17

Thanks fish rationally I figured that too; if it's wrong, I'll know all about it at this stage Confused

pink DH just talked me out of scan. I'm trying to keep telling myself I can wait I can wait I can wait - 3 weeks on Wednesday... I can wait.???!!??

Thanks for reassurance. X

tannyLoo · 06/10/2014 19:23

I can second fish finger, I'm having lots of pains in my lower abdomen. They feel like mild period pains, and I take paracetamol if they get too bad. I've had a couple of Doppler listens as I had five MCs prior to this pg, and everything is fine. The panic is understandable, but it is fine unless pains become really intense or contraction-like. Hope that helps.

m33r · 06/10/2014 19:26

It helps loads tanny - thanks. Will take it as reassurance all is at it should be as tbh, since my ms went I've felt pretty normal and with no bump (unless you really look for four thousand hours in the mirror) and no weight gain, it starts to feel a bit unreal. I shall take myself off, make some tea, have a wagon wheel and listen to my hb recording! Smile

tannyLoo · 06/10/2014 19:47

I'd say if you have stretching pains, the bump won't be long appearing! Glad it helps, tea and wagon wheel sounds lush!

lotsoftoast · 06/10/2014 20:06

Lots of stretching pains and backache here and my bump has really popped out. On the hunt for a belly band now actually.....

m33r · 06/10/2014 20:27

Ok so now I'm obsessing - how long for my bump now of stretchy pains really got started today-ish? First baby so desperate to have my bump. Got tunics, leggings, the works!!!! Come on bump!!! Grin

coastergirl · 06/10/2014 20:48

I want a bump too! I still just have the fat belly I had before.

Does anyone know anything about vision changes during pregnancy? It's probably completely unrelated, but today I just cannot focus without my glasses. I'm long-sighted and have glasses for anything close-up that requires me to focus, but I'm a little hit-and-miss with them, I can usually manage without them. Not today though, my eyes are rubbish!

fishfingerSarnies · 06/10/2014 21:29

Pregnancy does affect eye sight something to do with the hormone that softens your ligaments, softens the ligaments in yoyr eyes too which can change the shape of your lens or something... Can't remember the science but it did change my proscription I wanted to 6 months post birth to get my eyes retested.

coastergirl · 06/10/2014 22:05

Thanks fishfinger, it's nice to have some sort of explanation.

fishfingerSarnies · 06/10/2014 22:31

Ha coaster, I could have made it up? it feels like a very vague, something I read about first time round. Lol

fishfingerSarnies · 07/10/2014 09:07

Boo, feeling really sick again today. My puppies has diarrhea so I've been up loads in the night cleaning liquid poo... No wonder I feel sick.
Dd has only been up an hour and I've had to resort to tv!

smokeandglitter · 07/10/2014 09:46

Ah bless you fishfinger, hope you feel better soon!

Junk, how are you doing? Are you seeing a MH specialist midwife? If not, it might be good to see if you could get an appointment with one. Mine is really good and helps me feel much better about everything. Also, maybe it would be worth looking into counselling? Sometimes I have found just talking things through with someone unrelated can make them easier. Don't ever be afraid to ask for help and support, and feel free to PM me if you'd like to chat.

I definitely have a bump now! (see picture) Feeling massive! Had a BMI of 16.1 pre pregnancy, am now at almost 19! But heard the heartbeat yesterday which really cheered me up! Grin I think I was still feeling so low and numb at the 12 week scan that I didn't get a chance to be properly excited or happy so am really looking forward to the 20 week scan.

Also, finally announced on facebook yesterday, crazy amount of likes - over 60 in less than a day! Crazy. I think it was because we got our cats to announce it! Grin

pinkandstripey · 07/10/2014 10:14

My bestie used to breed ragdolls, amazing cats! Her's don't even seem to know that they are cats :) love them!

smokeandglitter · 07/10/2014 10:32

kittenmamma · 07/10/2014 11:46

Smoke, how did you get them to do it? I may be announcing soon, 12 week scan today (I know I'm well behind you guys) ans I'd love the cats to announce it somehow!

smokeandglitter · 07/10/2014 11:49

KittenMamma, This will completely out me if anyone already knows me (but that's very unlikely as think I only know 1 other mumsnetter and she's not pregnant!), but I can't quite think how to explain it and reckon they'd work it out anyway from the description so here's the picture!
