Not-so-little 9lb 2oz baby boy (name tbc) born at 12:30am this morning after a very long labour (I thought baby no3 was supposed to just fall out??)

Had the home birth I wanted but found it very hard going because my contractions were incredibly severe and no gap between them for the last 4 hours of the labour. But we got there in the end! No stitches so just a little battered and exhausted but he's a dream and I'm in love already!

Good luck ladies, will be thinking of you and checking in when I can to see the progress! xx

DizzyKipper · 18/09/2014 12:45

Just had my second sweep. Apparently there's been some progress but I'm still only 1-2cm dilated and 50% effaced. Third sweep booked in for Saturday. Apparently they won't do a home birth once I get to 42 weeks. Feeling very stressed.

slithytove · 18/09/2014 12:51

Just had second sweep, contractions have stopped but midwife thinks it will all get going again tonight so I'm resting as much as I can today.

Congrats LH!

Dizzy, don't give up hope, 24 hours is huge in terms of cervical change and a ve is really only a snapshot. Best thing you can do is de stress and rest up.

zanashar · 18/09/2014 14:31

3cm dilated @ 8am. Need to be 4 to get to birthing suite Hmm
Contractions have slowed right down too. Can't keep examining internally due to waters having broken ( 5 soaked pads and feeling v embarrassed in front of DH) and increased risk of infection.
So I'm stuck on antenatal ward for now. But apparently I'm coping well with the pain ( only because I want gas and air!! Which isn't available here)
Anyone else who's on the road to meeting your lil ones good luck and hope it goes as well as poss.

Topsyloulou · 18/09/2014 16:47

Congratulations LH.

Good luck to those ladies in labour, hopefully it will progress quickly now.

Had my last midwife appointment this morning, absolutely no change from last week and she doesn't think he is going to come any time soon. I'm booked in for induction on Wednesday as long as there is a free bed. Really hoping he comes of his own accord but not looking likely.

TeamEponine · 18/09/2014 20:01

Congrats to all of you with their babies now in their arms!

Baby Girl arrived Tuesday lunchtime. The ELCS went pretty well and was generally a really good experience. They had some issues getting the placenta out, although I had no idea until after. Baby Girl is beyond perfection. Recovery isn't too bad, and we just got home.

Can't stop grinning Grin

holls2000 · 18/09/2014 20:22

Barney arrived 2.40pm weigh 9lb 3. Feeding pretty well and sleeping! I am in love!!

HippyJess · 18/09/2014 22:51

Aww, huge congrats LH, team and holls! Thanks

Second sweep for me tomorrow at 41 weeks after losing my mucous plug this morning (sorry!) so time to get my hopes up once more Hmm

slithytove · 19/09/2014 02:24

She is here!

Olivia Annabel born at 8.12pm sept 18th, at home!

misog2000 · 19/09/2014 04:16

Congrats to all the new mummies

My insomnia seems to be back, I'm not particularly uncomfortable or anything I just can't doze off, it's very annoying!

No signs of labour here, but I'm only 39 weeks so fingers crossed something starts happening soon and I will at least have a reason for being up all night

Beccus · 19/09/2014 07:17

congtats to lh, team, holls and slithy. great story, slithy. I was v crampy last night, but it came to nothing. am a week over due today, seeing midwife today presumably for sweep and to book induction date.

DizzyKipper · 19/09/2014 07:22

Congratulations LH, Eponine, holls and slithy - and really glad you managed to have the home birth you wanted slithy.

velvet I think MWs try to avoid doing internal examinations too often due to infection risks and the possibility of accidentally breaking your waters. With DD they only ever checked for dilation when I was in active labour and this was because I kept asking them to as I was desperate to see that I was making progress. She might check if you ask though. I think policies for sweeps are usually that first time mums get offered at 40 weeks and mums with 1 or more children get offered at 41 weeks - though this can differ depending on area.

Well I'm 40+11 today. Trying not to be stressed but I can already feel it today. Might ask my mum to come round later today so she can see DD, though not sure I want to deal with the inevitable questions. DD would love to see her though and it would help get our day going.

polkadotdelight · 19/09/2014 12:17

Congratulations on all the new babies. Am 40+2 now and feeling down, everyone joked that he would come early because he and I am so big, am miserable now.

AlwaysandForever09 · 19/09/2014 13:51

Baby jake was born on 18th sept 22:07 PM 9lb 14 ounces! After a very long labour I eventually had to have an emergency csection as he was too big for me to push :( and was unable to get past 6cm! Congrats to all the other new mummies too!

Congrats to all the new babies Thanks.

Hope all those still waiting get to meet your little ones soon.

velvetlilithi · 19/09/2014 14:58

Welcome all new babies and congrats to new mummies. Nice to hear everyone is doing okay now and overcame complications.

dizzy At the end I even didn't ask for sweep or anything and mw didn't examine me so have no idea if something is happening down there. I just have to keep on waiting when baby's ready. At least baby is engaged 3/5, so little bit more than for last 4 weeks.

Continuing period cramps, bump going rock solid all the time, but that seems to be all for now.

HippyJess · 19/09/2014 16:20

So utterly fed up and in tears after today's sweep, no progress at all since Tuesday and I'm now 41 weeks. The midwife basically said that if I go to the hospital tomorrow because I'm worried about movements (which I am all the time even when he's fine) then they'll probably just induce me there and then (official induction booked for Wednesday) but I just don't know whether to do it or not. I can't cope like this, I'm getting more anxious and miserable every day and keep snapping at poor DH because of it :( I just want this baby out and safe! Ugh :(

DizzyKipper · 19/09/2014 20:35

Tis been a few more babies and progress for others so thought I'd update, hope it's not too soon since the last update (these really help me keep it straight in my head what's going on with who).

Beccus · 19/09/2014 21:27

I feel the same, hippy. 41 weeks today and mw unable to do sweep as cervix too posterior. ...how can I still be so not ready for labor? Sad am also having a lot of anxiety about movement and whether baby is ok. I think the problem is I spend one day lying on the sofa feeling a lot of movement (& wondering if that much movement is normal), and then spend the next day chasing dd1 around, have no time to think about baby and get stressed. yesterday was a quiet day and as I got up every hr to pee last night, I couldn't relax and go back to sleep until I'd felt baby move. no appointments from 38 weeks to 41 weeks didn't help either. but I need to chill out, there is no more risk at 40/41 weeks than there is at 39. I think u r within ur rights to request fetal monitoring check tomorrow, but decline induction until wed, if everything is fine.

lilone1234 · 19/09/2014 21:33

Hello all! Just popping in to say congratulations to all the other new mummies! Also, good luck to those still waiting - especially those overdue and uncomfortable!

I'm very much enjoying being mummy - I could just sit and look at and cuddle her forever! Labour was a bit of a saga. From going in at 5pm Saturday to be induced it took until 3am to be moved to delivery to start the drip. They wouldn't do gel or anything as I was already contracting anyway. So I was knackered and hungry before I even got going! Was put on the syntoconin drip which is turned up every half hour until a max of 60. By the time the midwife change at 8am I was at 50 and still contracting but irregular and mild. At examination at 9 it emerged that my waters had not completely broken, so this drip for the last 6 hours had been completely ineffective. Waters were broken then things got going - had about 7 massive contractions in a row because the machine was so high and fell in love with gas and air at this stage. Machine had to be started again at this point. Started to progress in terms of contractions and had epidural at about 6cm at about 6pm. From then things became a bit of a blur and I wasn't progressing in terms of dilation. Coupled with a drop in baby's heart rate and off I went for emergency c section. It was quite scary for some time but thankfully my perfect baby and I are doing very well now. All's well that ends well!

HippyJess · 19/09/2014 21:51

At least we're not alone beccus :( am very uncomfortable this evening and achey but I bet it all disappears when I go to bed - it always does!

polkadotdelight · 19/09/2014 22:02

hippyjess and beccus I know how you feel. I am only 2 days overdue but I'm feeling so sorry for myself. I've gained far too much weight, my bump is massive, stretch marks are increasing and Im so uncomfortable. It's sore to walk now yet I still can't breathe and I stress about movement every day. I'm frightened of forceps/tearing but I really want labour to start now. Sorry to be so down, huge congratulations to everyone who has had their baby x

misog2000 · 20/09/2014 05:18

Think I'm gonna have to go in in the morning to get checked as babies movements have definitely decreased over the last 24 hrs. Feel like I'm sabotaging my home birth plans but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter as long as they are ok. Fingers crossed everything is fine and they will just send me home but I'll be taking my bags just in case, letting DH get a few more hours sleep before I call, no sense in us both being up all night and I am still getting movement just not as much as normal.

Serotonin · 20/09/2014 06:50

Hope they attach you to the monitors and then send you home then, don't they say movement reduces as labour is more imminent?

I feel like I am the only person still pregnant! 2 friends of mine who were due long after me have already had their babies and I am still pregnant!

its not fair Sad

3rd stretch and sweep today at 10.30 and that's the last one we are going to have because they won't do more as there is too much risk of introducing infection. However we are going to sort a date for induction next week all being well so that's good Smile

I just want to get on the postnatal thread!
