Thought we'd better start a new thread, how many more will we get through before babies arrive??

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Kirstipops · 16/09/2014 20:58

Thanks for the comments about the scan pic, I was impressed too! it was a student scan tech I had and she managed to snap the pics during a rare moment when baby's hands were down from covering his/her face. The other pic I got was face-on and looks quite ghostly!!
Quite jealous of you homebirthers getting your pools installed!, If labour is straightforward for me this time I'd like to give homebirth a go next time if I get preggo again!

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 16/09/2014 21:08

Good luck Yellow! Can't believe all these babies are coming early!

Me23 · 16/09/2014 21:08

Best of luck yellow glad you are being well looked after.

mum2 you're right these October babies are very impatient indeed!

I'm going to finish packing my bag tomorrow, also have 36 week appt tomorrow.

ExcitedCJ · 16/09/2014 21:20

Yellow goodness, good luck. Wishing you the best. X

STIGZ · 16/09/2014 21:21

Wow yellow you might have a referendum baby after all Grin.
Look forward to your updates.

I really dont want to lose my plug right now .., last time i did my contractions came on so quickly !!

STIGZ · 16/09/2014 21:23

Oh i got a date for c/section today .., thursday 16th october ... Keeping my legs crossed until then.

fedupofrainydays · 16/09/2014 21:42

Aw thanks guys.
Had a bit of a strop at the doctor just now who wants me to give him a bottle. He's low blood sugar (they do this for all early babies) so has to feed a certain amont 3 hourly. We had a bit of a fight as I really want to bf and don't want to get him started on a bottle now as he just won't bother with the boob. Won in the end by agreeing to do cup. And the little star took it.
Apparently the NHS is too understaffed to help me express and promote bf. this makes me sad Sad

Anyway, totally knackered as had about 3 hours sleep since Saturday night. So better try and get some!

yellow hope all is ok and little one stays in for cooking a bit longer x

Everyone should pack their bag! I hadn't and now at hospital with lots of random and too hot stuff!!

Bumpforme2014 · 16/09/2014 21:44

Good luck yellow, so exciting. Kirstiepops I had my growth scan on Monday and there wasn't even a screen for me to see little miss let alone a photo! I thought that all scans were like that if they were extra scans I'm annoyed now.

Bumpforme2014 · 16/09/2014 21:44

Sorry also wanted to add your bubba looks so cute!

Grannyapple · 16/09/2014 21:49

Wow, busy updates!

Good luck yellow.. Ooh I lost a bit of mucus lady week but still have t packed any bags...tho I'm hoping for a home birth too...got my 36 wk appt combined with a home birth assessment. If all goes well, pool gets delivered shortly after...elk.

Went to my pregnancy yoga class tonight...found myself snoring at one point during the last relaxation part Blush...but I did gear someone else do the same!

Also heard tonight that one of the ladies had her baby this morning...in a 30 min labour Shock...gave birth on her hallway carpet before paramedics arrived...& then delivered placenta before mw arrived! Was her no 3 labour too...now panicking slightly..mainly because I had a new carpet fitted today for the stairs & landing today!!

Kirstipops · 16/09/2014 21:52

Aw Bump that's crap you didn't get a pic at least, not all of the ultrasound rooms in my hosp have the screen on the wall for mums to see, I didn't have one for my 12 week scan and practically had whiplash trying to see the scan tech's screen!

Grannyapple · 16/09/2014 21:52

Too busy watching debate by the young voters for the referendum on bbc news 24!

Lady=last, appt is Thursday...omitted that bit of info!

ohthegoats · 16/09/2014 21:57

Blimey, another one! Good luck yellow!

That's a great scan pic Kirstie - my 36 photo makes the baby look like Darth Vadar!

Fedup - good NHS wrangling, well done.

Weird day today, too many decisions to make, when really I don't give a toss about any of the outcomes - even though they are all quite important and related to personal stuff going on right now. Gah.

If consultants were suggesting you were induced due entirely to maternal age, yet you have no other risk factors, would you do it?

Grannyapple · 16/09/2014 22:12

Can I ask how old you are goats? Are they concerned about the placenta? I know quite a few mums over 40 who have had same decisions to make...done have fought it & went on to have perfectly fine deliveries & babies. You're fit & healthy, right?

ohthegoats · 16/09/2014 22:15

I'm 40.

I have another blood issue, but that hasn't affected my pregnancy, and won't affect birth. It's not a reason for induction.

I know the risks of higher maternal age and placentas etc, but how come some places let you go to 42 weeks, but mine has written 40/41 weeks in my notes? I'm inclined to say no thanks. If I was 8 months younger, it wouldn't be an issue and I'd be going up to almost 43 weeks (a 38 year old friend has just managed that at the same hospital).

Grannyapple · 16/09/2014 22:28

I actually agree with you goats..is an arbitrary cut off point & like you say depends on the health authority too.

Kirstipops · 16/09/2014 22:47

Nah Goats I'd fight it as well, you're probably fitter than folk younger than you are as well so for the sake of a few months I think I'd refuse the induction if it's only based on age.

ohthegoats · 16/09/2014 22:52

My doula suggested booking the induction if they were being really insistent, and then just not turning up. "There's no such thing as the maternity police you know..."

I have an appointment next Tuesday, and am just preparing my arguments now. I've also just not quite got around to booking appointments for sweeps at the midwife either. I really want to try and make this happen naturally - it's the only time I'm going to do it, I at least want to have a go. All this poking and prodding and injecting makes me feel quite uncomfortable (physically and mentally).

SlideIn · 17/09/2014 00:58

Congrats Fedup! Lovely name, was on my shortlist too.

Best of luck Yellow!

Rollercoaster here. Still in hospital; my BP has been unreliable (though settling now) and baby Alexander Grin couldn't maintain a temperature or a safe blood sugar level so after one night of cuddles was taken into the SCBU, where he's been since. My world has shrunk somewhat; am utterly uninterested in anything outside of these walls & obsessed with getting my milk in, so the formula will only be supplementing my milk when needed, the opposite of the current situation. Hmm think my boobs are getting bigger but at a 36H to start with it's actually difficult to tell; tomorrow is day 3 so fingers crossed...

Only just caught up, thanks for all good wishes Smile

Goats given I'm 35 and just endured a horrid 50hr induction, no, I would want to see more evidence of their reasoning.

fedupofrainydays · 17/09/2014 01:36

slide poor you. It's hard as I have them force feeding my baby formula and he just puked it everywhere - I'm sure it's too much! But it's their protocol for low blood sugar apparently. I'm trying to express too but no way it's possivle to express 25ml a feed of colostrum?! Hoping I've got more milk tomorrow too.

porcito · 17/09/2014 03:48

Alexander's another great name slide. Sorry he's having a hard time feeding, hope it gets easier and you get back to your snuggles soon!

SlideIn · 17/09/2014 04:23

Fedup The ladies running the show here seem very experienced; they have stopped short of full syringe feeds a couple of times saying 'he'll be sick if he has more - I can't tell he they know - but he's only been sick minuscule amounts. I'd be astonished and very jealous if you got that much colostrum! I get tiny tiny droplets, no more; he latches on and kind of licks them from the nipple. There's not meant to be a lot, it's hugely calorific. 25ml would feed the ward!

madamweasel · 17/09/2014 04:30

I'm awake! And I've got horribly negative thoughts running through my mind and can't settle back to sleep. What is it about being awake at this time of night, eh?

Congratulations on Alexander's arrival slide I hope everything goes smoothly from here on in.

I'm in such a limbo at the moment, I'm feeling like an overdue sow (37 weeks) and would like baby to arrive but I think DS may have chicken pox!!!!! So need to see GP tomorrow to confirm, in which case, baby needs to stay put till he's better.

binkybunny · 17/09/2014 04:58

Alexander is another lovely name slide it was on my boys name short list. Sorry to hear he's in SCBU, hope you manage to get some more cuddles soon and the feeding gets better for both you and fedup

pusscous · 17/09/2014 04:59

I have finally caught up with thread and it's activity over the last week.

Massive congratulations to slide and fedup, both lovely names. Wishing you luck with the feeding and hope you get some rest.

Thanks for the support early last week. Flip we have a VPN service which gives us a UK ip so we can access uk websites and tv catch up services it's ace! Also found a site delivery some uk cleaning products- it smells like home and stops the nausea. Was also in denial- have everything purchased/ washed but not decorated/ set up- a part of my mind kept dreaming if going home; being relocated again by company. Finally got my head together by end if Sunday, not necessarily helped by a crap birth lesson the day before. Nursery is now painted and furniture getting set up.

No gas + air, no water births and must have an IV. Either have an epidural or go without anything. No tips for an active birth. Everything if not managed is used to threaten my life and that of the baby. I have compromised on the IV and having a heparin lock, but not looking forward to tough decisions on pain relief! So goats can understand your thoughts about the induction, could you delay it by a week?
