Thanks kirstiand mrsb. Lovely little squish Smile. Seeing lo frown is sweet, a reminder that it's a proper little person. I know my DP will be itching to work out the sex, he tried at 20weeks but no luck.

pinkfizzsparkles · 16/09/2014 17:07

lily it was me who saw the sex clearly but that was down to the position she was in. I'd found out at 20 wk scan so it just confirmed it. If you tell them you don't want to know they will avoid that bit!

Glad scan went well kirstie

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 16/09/2014 17:17

Congratulations fedup on the arrival of baby Rory! Hope you can enjoy this time with just you and baby without too much more prodding.

Not sure who asked about sweeps but i had one at 40+1 & had DS at 40+2. The midwife did say i was already 2cm dilated when she started so i think it only works if you are already ripe!

I have heard playing a crying baby sound can help dogs get used to a newborn in the house, i am sure you tube will help with that!

Lily31 · 16/09/2014 17:20

weeonion that must feel v real. Are you going for a water birth?

Thanks pink, at my last scan the student gynaes (there were 4 of them) announced 'we know what you're having!' - hoping for a bit more understanding this time.

FWIW our (very broken and anxious) rescue hound was absolutely fine with the arrival of a baby. However, now DS is mobile, he is far more worried and uncomfortable around him.
We manage the situation and hope that in the future it will settle down again (once both of them understand and recognise each other's boundaries).

Shirehobbit · 16/09/2014 17:41

(He has, however, totally loved the whole weaning process and we've had to halve his feeds fat dog alert)

Missus2ndwife · 16/09/2014 17:47

Rory is a lovely name Fedup Grin

Lily - I've been feeling I'll after eating too. Thought it was tied in with my heartburn but it could be that I'm eating too much too quickly. Either way, I'm not liking it!

Well, today I bought nappies, hospital bag toiletries and pj pants for hospital... looks like I am really having a baby Blush

FlipFantasia · 16/09/2014 18:11

Packed my hospital bag (well, with a list on top of things i still need to add last min like my pillow and phone charger and the like!).

I can't remember who mentioned what snacks, but I totally agree that dried fruit would be totally in appealing to me! Actually, having been through a couple of labours, I doubt I'll eat much but my partner will. So I've packed salted almonds (which I love!) and some protein/granola bars as well as some nice biscuits (for my post-birth tea!), some Altoid mints (I am addicted) and some jellies (like wine gums, except they don't exist in america) as well as a coconut water drink and some energy drinks. Now just have to make sure I don't eat them...

Sweeps, I had three with DS and was induced at 42 weeks (was my first). With dd, I had a sweep at 40 weeks and she was born at 40+2 (and the sweep definitely triggered it). I had been necking epo (orally and internally) and think it helped.

Found out yesterday I'm positive for group b strep (tested for routinely here). So that may impact on whether I get a sweep this time or not (or whether I want one). I'll be on antibiotics during labor too, but my midwife said I can still labour in water if I want.

Bought a like new skip hop nappy bag for $20 at a local consignment store this morning, along with some bits and bobs for Halloween (kids want to be Ben and Holly with baby as gaston the ladybird so I bought a newborn lady bird fleece onesie today!). Now need to make fairy wings, wand, elf hat etc. Doubt I'll be much use craft wise once baby is here!

Also having strong nesting instincts to turn our (creepy) basement into a useable play space for winter. This is Not A Good Thing as will involve painting and lugging stuff around...I need to fight this nesting urge!

weeonion · 16/09/2014 18:12

Lily - hopefully a waterbirth will be on the cards.

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 16/09/2014 18:42

I am planning a water birth too weeonion, should be getting my pool next week Grin Have you done a test run yet? Going to do one to see how long it takes to fill & then have a splash about with DS in it Smile

Missus2ndwife · 16/09/2014 18:47

For anyone interested - Tesco's doing good deals of Pampers nappies. I bought buy one get one free Pampers Sensitive Newborn (3-6kg) 48 for £10.99
The regular Pampers Newborn is £6.99 - buy one get one free

STIGZ · 16/09/2014 18:59

Omg kirstie ... What a wee gorgeous face Sad. Glad all is well, you will be meeting him/her very soon!! Shock

fedup loving the name rory .,, cant wait to see him!!

mrsb your wee doggies are sooo cuteGrin. Im very lucky that my wee dog a lhasa apso has been great, even though she was wary of children before i had my dd, she is now alot less anxious around children in general, they didnt really bother with each other until dd was about 3 and now they adore each other, obviously you have to be very cautious at all times especially when at the toddler stage when they like to experiment with pulling tails or ears Shock but as long as you 100% observant at all times baby & dog should get along fine

STIGZ · 16/09/2014 19:02

Never meant to put the sad face in that msg kirstie meant to be Grin

weeonion · 16/09/2014 19:13

Jelly - we are test running pool at weekend too! DD thinks that'll be it up til birth so she can lounge and watch tele from it!!!

YellowWellies · 16/09/2014 20:18

Just a quickie I'm in maternity observation for the night as after losing my plug yesterday I'm now contracting every 5 minutes. Have had steroids and have to stay in tonight as they can mess up insulin uptake. Doc not sure if proper labour yet (I'm 34+3) if it is its so different from last time. Contractions feel less sore than period pains! I just thought my back was a bit sore but they spotted the contractions on my routine CTG today and found I'm 3cm dilated. Sadly baby is breech again so if I do progress it's a section. Shame as if this is labour it's so much more comfy. Lovely to hear the gorgeous newborn squeaks from the cots around me. Though have got ear plugs for later. So anyone who's lost their plug - pack yer bag! That was one less stress for me when they announced at a routine appointment I'd not be allowed home. Can't imagine what DH would have put in it!!!!

YellowWellies · 16/09/2014 20:20

Oh and congrats Fedup. Smile

FlipFantasia · 16/09/2014 20:25

Yellow wow! Sounds like things are hotting up and you'll meet your little squidge soon! Glad you're getting steroids and having good care. 34 weeks is early but still a good 'age' (especially compared to your neice!). I've had an emcs and, while freaky, it is absolutely fine (main thing is rest right up for several weeks after!). Thinking of you xx

Lulu298 · 16/09/2014 20:35

Congrats Fedup and hope all goes well yellowwellies

bumpbangbump · 16/09/2014 20:42

Congratulations fedup, I love the name. Really liked Rory for our first but with an r surname didn't like the combo.

Good luck yellow, sounds like you're in the right place and will be meeting the little one soon. Let us know how you get on.

As for bf, it really can be quite straight forward. All the mums I know who have had babies recently have had very little in the way of problems. A good approach is to strip your top half and have them in just a nappy, lay them on you with head between breasts and let them rest there for a while. They'll probably bob their head a bit and will naturally gravitate towards the nipple where you can. Give them some gentle direction towards the bullseye. Try being reclined as it's more comfortable for both.

mum2kiss · 16/09/2014 20:42

Gosh you gals are dropping like flies! Will there be any babies still in utero by October? !

porcito · 16/09/2014 20:43

Eek yellow, good luck! I'm definitely sorting my bag now! Hope you manage to get some rest tonight.

Congrats fedup! Rory's a fantastic name, love it. Hope you and baby are doing well.

How are you doing now, gun?

Great scan picture kirsti! So clear! My last scans have just been a jumble of limbs, can't see anything!

I'm having a day of marking before I leave on Friday. Today is Mexican Independence Day and hoped my little Mexican would take the hint and leave my uterus, but no. Still got horrible Braxton Hicks but nothing else.

I'm making a playlist and downloading everything on the Kindle ready for the birth. Under no illusion that I'll be with it enough to spend hours reading but the thought is nice! I think it was yellow reading The Goldfinch - I really liked it too. So hard to find English books here so the Kindle has been a lifesaver!

mum2kiss · 16/09/2014 20:44

Apart from sore nipple resulting from a poor latch breastfeeding went fine for us. I watched some you tube videos on what a proper latch should look like and it really did help

Kirstipops · 16/09/2014 20:53

Eeeeee Yellow I thought you'd been quiet today, excited for you! Looking forward to hearing how you get on :)

sazzlehopes · 16/09/2014 20:55

Eek yellow after my plug chat this morning I'm defo packing my bag! I have no other feelings, just a browny discharge that isn't very much. Sorry again for the TMI. Hope all is well yellow - excited for you too, but sorry the baby is breech.
