Thought we'd better start a new thread, how many more will we get through before babies arrive??

What are yaktraks btw? I would love to walk dd to kindergarten in the mornings with the baby in a sling, but am worried about the steep downhill bits when it's snowy/icy.

clops2000 · 15/09/2014 13:57

Our hypnobirthing teacher recommended that we watch feel-good films in early stages of labour to get the oxytocin going....just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for films that make you laugh out loud throughout or make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside (without any sadness involved, dark humour, or complicated plot lines!) so we can add them to our list?

binkybunny · 15/09/2014 14:09

frau yaktraks are like snow chains for your feet. Did lots of hill walking in them year before last and are amazing!

clops we also got told that at our antenatal class. I'm watching Christmas movies, The Holiday and Muppets Christmas Carol and some chilled out snowboarding /surfing movies, depending how much time I have at home before going in!

fatpony · 15/09/2014 14:31

Interesting advice on post-birth weight loss.,...problem is I don't want to wait 9 months! I go back to work after just six and need to fit into my work wear I already have. As soon as I recover properly from my c-section I hope to be out walking the hills near my house as a gentle form of exercise. Fortunately I am still exercising, three times a week at the gym and one swim, so hopefully it will all be ok. The hardest bit for me will be being at home all day in winter and avoiding the sweets and biscuits!

mrsb87 · 15/09/2014 14:47

Elf is an awesome Christmas feel good film Smile 10 things I hate about you (if you like a bit of 90's American high school cheese)

gunwalloe · 15/09/2014 14:53

Thanks ladies thinking about it the seat is 10 years old as my 3rd child had it and it's been through a house move so probably bashed about.
I'm going to go to a different mother care as I'm sure the man I spoke to have me duff info. He told me you HAD to use isofix and none of there seats would fit into our car with a seat belt. If I have no luck there a friend said that halfords are quite good so will try there to.

madamweasel · 15/09/2014 15:08

I don't have isofix, I have one of these

www.amazon.co.uk/Maxi-Cosi-CabrioFix-Group-Infant-Carrier/dp/B007C3UOLS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410789958&sr=8-1&keywords=maxi+cosi+car+seat

And fit it into a Vauxhall Astra with a seatbelt and it's been great. Definitely recommended.

Me23 · 15/09/2014 15:08

gun for my 2nd we didn't have isofix so bought maxi cosi cabriofix with an easy base 2 the base is fixed to the car seat with seat belt the the seat can easily be clicked in and out so no need to belt up every time. The base was around £70 and maxi cosi £90 ish.

JustGotMyBabyOnBoardBadge · 15/09/2014 15:10

Gun you've been had!! He's talking nonsense as pretty much all car seatbelt friendly - the isofix base is literally to make the job of removing and putting the seat back into the car more simple - this really only applies if you feel like you will be using the car seat in this way.

The safety standards are the same whether you use a isofix base or not. However in their favor it does make it easy just to clip in and out the car seat (especially if it can be used as a buggy seat with your travel system too) without waking the baby. But a few practice goes with the car seat and the seat belt should have you happy you are doing it right.

I spent 45 minutes with the John Lewis ladies explaining the ins and outs of car seats to DP and I as we were bloody useless....feel like I should have got a diploma paper by the end of it!!

BadgerInBury · 15/09/2014 15:13

I love 30 Day Shred! If you don't want to buy it you can watch all three vids for free on YouTube...

Seriously starting to wish we'd never started supernesting now. Into week 3 of mat leave, I've been painting every day and DH joining me every evening and we still haven't finished painting everywhere. What's more, DH is getting more and more into it by the day and now he's talking about relaying the bathroom floor and suchlike. I just want a nice clean home to bring our baby into!!!

(stamps feet, makes multiple huffing noises, eats huge slab of cake for no reason)

Ok, self pitying moment over. Where did I leave that paintbrush? :)

binkybunny · 15/09/2014 15:13

gun he's definitely talking bs! Our Mothercare was great and took loads of time showing DH how to fit it. They also won't sell you a car seat without them checking it fits securely in your car as not all seats fit well in all cars.

JustGotMyBabyOnBoardBadge · 15/09/2014 15:14

I recommend John Lewis for all sorts of free baby education.....we thought the baby could last in a Moses basket for a good year or so, we knew nothing Blush

binkybunny · 15/09/2014 15:15

ooo just added Elf to my DVD stack mrsb. Now I'm tempted to watch it... is September too early?!

cabster · 15/09/2014 15:23

No binky! Get it watched!

So back from scan... Baby is head down, and not back to back, which is doubly great :)

However got a call from midwife an hour later saying there's more liquor than there should be, and will I come in tomorrow for a fasting blood sugar test.

Is too much liquor indicative of GD then? And at this late stage how much difference might it make to my pregnancy? (I'm 36+5)

gunwalloe · 15/09/2014 15:40

Thanks all he was a real arse! And I feel so out of the loop as it's such a gap between baby's that I just took his info as correct I've been worrying about it for two weeks

Cabster Polyhydramnios can be a sign of GD is the baby a normal size? I'm not sure what they would do if GD was diagnosed now it would depend on how high your blood sugars were running.

cabster · 15/09/2014 15:51

Yes gun all measurements were near the 50th centile line on the 3 little graphs so am hoping it's just baby giving me the runaround. His sister did!

PunkyBubba · 15/09/2014 15:54

That's Weird Cabster, I was just about to post about the same thing. I had a scan this morning to check low placenta. It had moved up which is great, but also told I have excess amniotic fluid. I've been booked in for GTT in the morning, and blood tests for toxoplasmosis, etc (I think.. I got a bit confused and they talked very quickly). I've also been booked for another scan next Friday with a consultant to check fluid amount. I made the mistake of googling, and now a bit stressed about it all. I think my nice midwife unit birth is out the window.

mum2kiss · 15/09/2014 16:22

I'd be too scared about falling over in snow but then I live down south so snow is a once a decade occurrence lol!

Casbster what is this about liquor?! Does it mean excess fluid?

I took a day off work today. I slept for a couple of hours this morning, went to the docs to sort my fire ass and then went to pick up Dd from school....I could get used to chilled out days like this but I really need to start nesting!

cabster · 15/09/2014 16:24

Yes sorry amniotic fluid! The mw on the phone pronounced it "lye-kor" which threw me somewhat, took me a minute to cotton on to what she was talking about Hmm

cabster and punky I wouldn't worry too much exactly the same thing happened to be with my second pregnancy! I had polyhydramnious and it turned out that I did have gd. I was transferred to consultant led care and followed a gd diet, my fluid levels came down to a bit more normal level.
I was offered an induction at 38 weeks which is standard in my area (manchester) I was happy to have it but I was never made to feel I had to.
Dd was fine when born weighed 7lb13 so a normal weight no issues with her sugars or mine after birth. I did soak the doctor when he broke my warts he hade to change his shoes Blush

punky I've just had the toxoplasmosis test, torch screening I think they called it I think it's just to rule out any infections that can cause excess fluid or in my case big baby.

Oh and also I've not had gd with my last pregnancy or with this one so even though have a higher chance of getting it again (if you do have it this time) it is not a definite.

Pregnantagain7 · 15/09/2014 16:33

Bloody hell warts?!! Waters that was meant to say Grin

MrsDinoRawr · 15/09/2014 16:33

Wow - I haven't read the thread for a while - It has taken me two days to catch up!! It seems to be getting going on the Oct thread!!

So exciting that there is another baby - Congratulations slide. Can't wait to see a picture.

How are you getting on fedup?

I spent most of Thursday and Friday in hospital as my blood pressure was high. The consultant said I have hypertension so will need to be monitored incase I need medication and he has booked me in to be induced on 27th Sept when I will be 38 weeks. I won't bore everyone on here with the details but if anyone wants to know I have written a blog post about it.
My blog post - swollen ankles and high blood pressure = a visit to hospital

fedupofrainydays · 15/09/2014 16:55

So am still in hospital. Think they are keeping me in now til I have it. Not trying to stop things but also not trying to speed it up. But dr this morn says if I haven't had it by tomorrow of I would be keen for induction - not sure how I feel about that. Suppose I just want it here now, and need to be back being a mummy for ds too. Although he's still sick so shouldn't be near a new born anyway.
Maybe tmi bit I've had the most ridiculous amount of mucus today - the plug is definitely gone. Way more than I had with ds.

On a ward with someone with bad BO and another who snores like a pig so it's delightful.

Still contracting but not that regularly but with me things usually get going at night

Hope all is well ladies
