peppercorn i am under the early pregnancy unit for complications (past and present). i have been twice now, and been scanned both times and they want to see me qgain in two weeks.

Lindalove · 28/08/2014 11:39

Peppercorn I think you can get an early scan before 12 weeks on the NHS if there is a reason they think you need it eg history of MCs, but otherwise you only get early scans if you pay for them. I paid £100 for mine in London which granted is a lot of cash but needed to know if everything was okay in there... at least last week it was! I hasten to say it still hasn't stopped me worrying whether everything will be okay at 12 weeks but at least I know there's just one in there, I did have an embryo, yolk sac and heartbeat etc and all the stats they recorded seemed good eg strong heartbeat and good size gestational sac which are good indicators towards not miscarrying (though at 38 my age increases that risk). As a result it has reassured me to some extent that everything is going as it should and no nasty shocks about twins or blighted ovums etc. I just hope blob keeps going in there...

Peppercorn I have an early scan tomorrow because I've had some bleeding.

I'm very jealous of all of you with booking appointments soon - mine's not til 11 weeks!

Cookiepants87 · 28/08/2014 12:39

I've been thinking about booking and early scan just before my holiday at the end of sept but will have to chat with DH about it!

Catren I got a the pack when I booked for my midwife appt mid sept, it had a few leaflets about diet and exercise, some local information about pregnancy yoga and pregnant swimming classes, also got a weeks supply of pregnacare vitamins and a really handy book with lots of detail about what's happening when! Also got a yellow booklet (start of my maternity notes I think!) eeeeeeek!!! Grin

Hope you are all having a good day and not feeling too rotten xx

Rhiannon85 · 28/08/2014 12:43

CatRen27 · 28/08/2014 13:08

I mean cookie! God what is wrong with me. I don't know why I'm getting you and cinnamon mixed up..

MrsS010814 · 28/08/2014 13:32

Hi Rhiannon, congratulations and welcome to the group. My first is also due on the 28th! It seems such a long way away

Siarie · 28/08/2014 14:06

Five weeks now and I'm feeling those tugging pulling sensations that I got back in the first week (implantation week). Anyone else experience this? I think I can just feel my body quite well, I've been able to feel everything from ovulation, implantation to just knowing something is going on down there.

Lindalove · 28/08/2014 14:36

Oh god just caved and bought a fetal doppler. Apparently you can pick up a HB from 9 weeks... if you can use it properly. The wait between now and my 12 week scan on Sept 22 is just TOO long. With a bit of luck I'll find a HB then before then, if not have promised myself I won't worry as blob is too small... yeah right! Sonoline B is the model I've got, which is supposed to be a good one.

emmam13 · 28/08/2014 14:48

Hi Everyone, my DD is 1st April so thought I'd join the group and see how everyone else is feeling? This will be my 1st baby and I'm 31.

Siarie · 28/08/2014 14:49

Lindalove let me know how you get on, I think I will be buying one of those soon but I didn't want to get it too early :D

mswibble · 28/08/2014 15:45

Completely getting carried away with myself, especially as several on here have had such sad news recently, but I allowed myself to make my first maternity purchase today. Primark maternity skinnies, on clearance for £3. And god they're comfy, I might just start wearing them now. Its like wearing denim pj bottoms!

Checked with my mum today, she didnt have morning sickness with me nor my brother, just extremely sore boobs so it seems im following her lead!

mswibble · 28/08/2014 15:47

Im so sorry to read your update mud. Flowers

Cookiepants87 · 28/08/2014 16:12

Haha catren, no worries it's probably pregnancy brain!!! Grin Yeah goodies are amazing! Ask at your doctors!!

Siarie I am 5 weeks too and have been having mild cramping everyday since 3 days before my period was due, it's a nice reminder that magical things are happening GrinGrinGrin what was your EDD? I'm 30th aprilaccording to nhs calculator xx

Siarie · 28/08/2014 16:25

I'm also the 30th of April, but I think based on ovulation I'm the 29th. But to be honest end of April is fine with me, no one really knows when their bean will make their grand escape do they :D. I'm either five weeks exactly or five weeks and one day today. But again just waiting for a scan to date it for sure, I think I'll go private at 8 weeks for that.

Cookiepants87 · 28/08/2014 16:26

Yeah siariethat sounds like a plan to me! I might do the same! Xx

Cookiepants87 · 28/08/2014 16:30

With booking private scans, how do you go about doing it? Through your GP or direct to the hospital? Xx

Siarie · 28/08/2014 16:32

You just need to find a private clinic that does early scans near you. Maybe get some recommendations, what city do you live in?

I've found a few in london for about £100 which seems fine to me. I would be reassured just to know everything's as it should be for that week.

Stuntman · 28/08/2014 16:38

I don't get the point of early scans. I had one last pregnancy but that was because I had symptoms suggesting an ectopic pregnancy. Why pay £100 just to 'see' something that the pregnancy test has already told you is there? If I'm going to pay for a scan I'd rather have one later on to find out the gender or to let my other kids see the baby. I'm genuinely curious why so many people are having them without a medical reason.

stuntman so the reason is because if you have them at around 8-9 weeks then you are likely to see a heartbeat which drops the chances of MC down. In other countries they have their first scan to date their pregnancy much earlier than the 12 week NHS scan, so the pros of having it are:

  1. To date your pregnancy, specially if you have come off birth control and didn't have a period before you got pregnant
  1. To see a heart beat and check development
  1. If you have had a history of MC then early checking can be reassuring.
  1. Because £100 is pocket money to some of us.
Siarie · 28/08/2014 16:46

Oh and one more, would be to find out if you are having twins or multiples Smile
