Hello

Having had 5 mcs and 1 DD I am not feeling very hopeful (juest realistic) even though I am doing different things than before...

4w today and on cyclogest pessaries since CD21...

Maybe we could have a separate thread to the biiiig one so we don't scare the others with our (my) negativity...

Welcome

TinyTear, 40, 1 DD, 5mcs, due in April but don't want to know the exact day...

Please excuse me butting in ladies, I'm a nosy cow and have been following your thread after I had lots of bleeding and worries early in my pregnancy. I just had to post and say London that is completely outrageous! I have the exact same BMI as you, and I've had three NHS scans due to scares, and I've never once been made to feel bad about my weight, nor have I had issues with the scans. I had an internal scan at 5+4 but abdominal scans at 8+5 and 12 weeks and nothing was ever said about being too heavy, and I didn't even have a full bladder. Please don't feel bad, and I do think you should make a complaint because nobody should be allowed to make you feel like that. Hugs!

CareBearWithFangs · 02/10/2014 17:47

London that's awful! Scans are stressful enough without those sort of comments. Definitely complain! Negative comments about your weight just aren't acceptable. Hope your ok, big hugs.

Shetland · 02/10/2014 18:04

Complain london complain - that's disgraceful :(

TinyTear · 02/10/2014 18:21

London complain complain complain. My bmi is higher and she moaned but not much. Was it a Spanish woman? Mine was and I wasn't a big fan either but not to that extent. And my current bmi is actually 36!!!

OP posts:
TinyTear · 02/10/2014 18:23

Mine complained about having to go internal too but it honestly at 10w I never thought it would be external.

But your treatment is appalling

LIG1979 · 02/10/2014 19:02

london- that sounds like a horrible experience. You poor thing and that woman shouldn't be behaving like that and should be more respectful. I would also complain! how did the rest go?

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 02/10/2014 20:16

london thats awful please do complain.

LondonSuperTrooper · 02/10/2014 20:18

Thanks everyone for your kind words. You truly are a super bunch!

Tiny yes I think she was Spanish & looked v young.

I'm feeling ok now, i was v upset at the time though. Baby was playing and moving around and she marred this fab experience for me :( I even forgot to get a photo. She said she'll give me a photo if she can get through the fat! I'm assuming that she did as she did an internal scan. And to top it off no one asked me whether I wanted to know the gender of the baby. I forgot to ask :( I'm planning to ring them tomorrow morning & request this info.

Tiny, did they ask you whether you wanted to know the sex of the baby?

Also, I will most definitely complain but not sure whether I should do it now or wait until after my nuchal scan (2 weeks away). I know for certain that this doctor won't be doing the nuchal scan - I asked the receptionist twice & it's seems to be a different doctor.

LondonSuperTrooper · 02/10/2014 20:23

LIG, I think the doctor thought baby was on the small side & she was querying the measurements. She told me not to worry as it's because I'm so fat that she can't get decent measurements!

I guess I just have to wait till my NHS scan on Monday & see what they say.

For what it's worth, the NHS images were much sharper & clearer than the ones that I saw at the FMC scan...... And I still can't get over how busy the clinic was! I couldn't find a seat to sit down on!

lila35 · 02/10/2014 20:29

Oh London thats awful, how is it even productive to make you feel like that on your scan day that you were clearly so anxious about. I should complain and make a fuss, she shouldn't be allowed to behave in such a way, its far from professional. At least you have the nuchal scan in two weeks and you can get some pics then. although its little comfort right now.

14 weeks tomorrow!! Thats second trimester, I can't begin to believe it! I am def feeling very different in my lower stomach now, I guess its my cervix moving upwards, I am ready for a proper baby bump now and not this squidge that I currently have, its quite rounded at the bottom which I am happy with it just needs to progress a little more.

I have also just google mc risk at 14 weeks, and its small 0.5% heres hoping, nothing goes wrong otherwise.

Good luck tomorrow Lig and Tiny.

TinyTear · 02/10/2014 21:24

They also didn't ask about the sex and I forgot so probably won't tell me. I will see if they can tell me tomorrow...

Lila, congratulations on making it to the 2nd trimester :) Thanks for sharing the miscarriage stars- it's good to know that it's that low.

Tiny & LIG, best of luck with your scan today.

Tiny, I hope you can hang till 4.30pm, it's going to be a long old wait. Hope that Harmony comes back with low risk for everything.

LIG, what time is your scan?

LondonSuperTrooper · 03/10/2014 02:45

Stars should read stats!

LondonSuperTrooper · 03/10/2014 03:42

I'm still wide awake :( I can't wait till I come off these medications!

TinyTear · 03/10/2014 06:32

London I'm Angry on your behalf. I would make a formal complaint and request you be refunded you shouldn't have to pay for such dreadful service.
My BMI is 34-35 I've had in 3 pregnancies 20+ scans my weight has never been mentioned and never been a problem I've only had one internal scan due to abdominal not being clear enough and that was at 7 weeks.
My consultant even managed to get a very clear scan using one of those really poor quality laptop scanners with my BMI.
Sounds like she couldn't see due to her own poor skills but decided to blame you to cover her embarrassment.

Shetland · 03/10/2014 07:23

Good luck LIG and tinytear

OneDayLikeThis2013 · 03/10/2014 08:50

Good luck today LIG and tiny thinking of you both

london absolutely complain, that is completely unacceptable behaviour. Absolutely disgusting, I'm really cross for you.

And hi coaster Welcome!

TinyTear · 03/10/2014 08:54

you know when i think of it we might have seen the same doctor - check your papers - is she called Rocio?

Thing is with me, I was so overwhelmed at seeing a live baby with a heart beat I wasnt paying much attention, but she did make a statement of moving my saggy belly out of the way to scan and there were also lots of comments about baby not cooperating...

I think you should complain while it is fresh in your mind, as at least she needs some blooming people training!

LIG1979 · 03/10/2014 09:07

Yes good luck tiny.

Woke up at 4.30am feeling sick and haven't gone back to sleep. Trying to "work from home" but I am a little distracted. Got a conference call at 11 which is going to be very tedious and not sure I am going to be able to keep my patience with one of the guys when my head is focusing on scans.

London sounds like this woman if it is the same one has really people issues which cannot be great in her line of work. The machine quality of ultrasounds can vary a lot in my experience (of having scans and working with them in a previous job) and if she has a rubbish machine then she will find it more difficult to get a good picture if there is more tissue to get through. But her annoyance should be with the machine rather than the patient. I would have expected the FMC to have a better machine to be honest. One of my scans with dd was at 7.5 weeks and abdominal and the picture quality was amazing - that was at the babybond clinic in Wimbledon incase you are interested in going to a great machine assuming it is still working well.

yes - hello coaster it is always nice when people lurking say hello. Please feel free to post again. Is everything working out well now after your early scares?

CareBearWithFangs · 03/10/2014 09:21

Good luck for today tiny and LIG.

LondonSuperTrooper · 03/10/2014 09:41

OK, I'll contact FMC today and complain.

Tiny, yes that is the same doctor that I saw. She moaned throughout the scan about baby being comfortable & not co-operating as well. she made such a fuss about it.

Little, I had a NHS scan at 7+4 and it was abdominal. The picture was quite clear.

Good luck with your scans LIG & Tiny, I will be thinking of you both :)

LondonSuperTrooper · 03/10/2014 09:58

Right, I've emailed the FMC and requested a contact name to address my complaint to.

Yikes, I hope that they are going to be nice to me when I have my nuchal!

TinyTear · 03/10/2014 10:10

Well done London
we are all behind you!

I hope I see someone different today!

OP posts:
LondonSuperTrooper · 03/10/2014 10:20

Tiny, you definitely well. From speaking to the nurse & receptionist I get the impression that our 'esteemed' only does the viability scans and not the nuchal.

Best of luck with your scan & harmony results. I sincerely hope that you will get good news :)

Oh and I rang the FMC today and requested to know the gender of the baby. I don't really want to find out but it'd be nice for my DS to know what he's getting, especially because all he wants is a baby brother.
