Hello

Having had 5 mcs and 1 DD I am not feeling very hopeful (juest realistic) even though I am doing different things than before...

4w today and on cyclogest pessaries since CD21...

Maybe we could have a separate thread to the biiiig one so we don't scare the others with our (my) negativity...

Welcome

TinyTear, 40, 1 DD, 5mcs, due in April but don't want to know the exact day...

Thanks Shetland. I know there's no reason to assume anything's wrong, especially as the morning sickness that was so absent at first has been making an appearance in the late afternoon and getting earlier every day. With the MMC I thought there weren't any signs before the 12-week scan but in hindsight I had bad pain at 8 weeks that I mistook for tummy trouble, followed by a steady lessening of symptoms.

I'll be 9+3 on Thursday Tiny. I'm trying to stay positive and succeeding I hope. If all goes well on Thursday I have booked lunch on Saturday for DH and I and I'll tell him then as he's away on business until late Friday night.

TinyTear · 23/09/2014 12:21

Fingers crossed! 9+3 you should see a lovely jelly baby!

Shetland I'm the same as you but it'd be lovely to have someone else there to share the excitement :)

Stuntman best of luck with the scan. I hope it all goes well so that you can finally tell your DH. I still can't believe that you managed to keep it secret for so long!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 23/09/2014 20:51

Good luck with your scan stuntman we really couldnt afford the private scan but im so glad I had it, the relief it gave me was worth every penny.

my tummy seems to have popped, I have a very round bump which seems to have appeared overnight, not sure how much longer ill be able to keep it a secret.

LondonSuperTrooper · 23/09/2014 23:04

Smiling how long were you hoping to keep your pregnancy quiet for? Are you keeping it secret from work or friends?

Tiny I've had the confirmation for my 2 scans at FMC. Interestingly, my email states that there is no need for a full bladder? How is the scan carried out then? I thought they needed a full bladder for the ultrasound images to come out clear?

London even though it was only 10w they did abdominal first... And saw baby and stuff... Maybe their machines are better than NHS ones

LondonSuperTrooper · 24/09/2014 08:44

Thanks Tori & Tiny

Tiny, that's really interesting. I always have a full bladder for the NHS scans and it can be very uncomfortable..... I feel like I have to do all that I can as I have a high BMI & they need clear images Blush

LittleBairn · 24/09/2014 09:00

I managed to keep my second pregnancy secret all the way to 19 weeks but family found out once I was hospitalised. I'm glad we did it was nice to have that time to ourselves.

This time around my family know because my cousin is pregnant and goes to the same maternity unit for appointments (its very busy with signs saying you may need to wait 2-3 hours) and didn't want to risk running into her without people knowing. But we won't tell inlaw unless we get to 24 weeks, they are much older and they have found my losses harder to deal with plus MIL actually said she wished she hadn't known.
Hopefully if it all goes well I will have great Christmas news for them.

scans its usually full bladder for abdominal and empty bladder for transvaginal.

lila35 · 24/09/2014 09:10

When I had my first mc at 8\9 weeks they tried an abdo scan first but couldn't see so had to empty my bladder and resort to an internal scan. With the 10's of internal scans I've had with multiple iui and an ivf attempt it was actually strange to have an abdo scan.

OneDayLikeThis2013 · 24/09/2014 09:28

London I've got a ten week scan on Saturday morning and it says to have a full bladder. My scan at 8 weeks was also an abdo scan (though she had to tilt me upsidedown on the table to get my gassy bowels out the way Blush I did read that at 12 weeks onwards a full bladder isn't necessary as everything is bigger and the bladder is not required to be full to push everything up.

Ladies, can I lean on you today? I'm 9+4 and this was the exact day (and a Wednesday too) that I started to have strange beige d/c and, following by a teeny bit of blood then bad news at a scan on Friday morning. Finding it very hard to think of anything else today (hence sneaking on to MN at work) 3 days til another scan which will reassure me for, oooh, maybe a few hours?!

Good luck to all with scans in the next few days xx

Have a good day today oneday
this time it will be different!

OP posts:
lila35 · 24/09/2014 14:20

Try not to worry unless you you have to oneday, if you are not having any symptoms to worry about try to put it out of your mind ( I know easier said than done) , you don't have to long to wait till your scan even though it probably feels like an eternity.

Shetland · 24/09/2014 14:38

Roll on Saturday oneday and maybe try and keep busy til then.

LondonSuperTrooper · 24/09/2014 15:06

Good luck for Saturday Oneday. I echo what others have already suggested- try and keep busy.

I'm having a bad day today :( I'm literally falling asleep at my desk at work! Plus I have severe bloating that my usual roomy trousers can't seem to cope with. I've tried the old trick if using an elastic band looped around the button but it doesn't seem to help.

BTW, how is everyone doing with their weight? I thought that I've been eating healthily but I have put on 5lbs! I'm thinking of joining Slimming World but I can't justify the costs.....

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 24/09/2014 15:27

Was hoping to keep it secret for a few more weeks, work know and so do my family and mil but we arent telling dsc till they are here for half term so didnt want anyone else to know incase it somehow gets back to them, ie sil telling niece who speaks to dsd daily.

Big hugs oneday x

I had to have a full bladder for my private scan at 10.5 weeks but not for my 12 week one which was NHS

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 24/09/2014 15:31

london I havent been weighing myself and cant even remember what it was at my last midwife appointment.

Ive been measuring my waist each week and had put on 3 inches in the first 14 weeks which took me to sunday, I measured again yesterday and since sunday so 2 days id gained another 3 inches.

LIG1979 · 24/09/2014 19:00

5 lb I would love to have only gained 5 lbEnvy Envy Envy . I stepped on the scales this morning and I am at 12 lb(10+4 weeks) It is also mostly on the tummy so my tummy is huge! Not sure I am doing a good job of hiding it although it took about 3 outfits to find something that didn't look too bad. Just sitting on an exercise bike and hoping that now I am exercising again it will slow down/stop for the next 10 weeks or so.

Stuntman will be thinking of you tomorrow. Does your dh work away alot? Very impressed at keeping it from dh for that long. Although I doubt dh would have missed my groaning and fat belly!

Similarly I hope it goes well tomorrow Shetland.

Oneday- hope you got through today. I am feeling alot more positive after passing the point of my mmc. The full bladder is for early abdominal scans. My sonographer couldn't see the baby with an empty bladder at 7 weeks but could at 9 weeks if she pressed hard. (She tried after I emptied my bladder in my 2 scans.) So at 12 weeks it should be ok without a full bladder.

Found out they lost the paperwork and my 12 week scan hasn't been booked. Now trying to contact the midwife as she needs to refer me. Glad I called to check. I hope dh can make it although I think he will take emergency leave to do it. He knows what a state I get in before scans and listens as I plan what we will do if it is bad news. Does anyone else have a plan about what to do if it is bad news at a scan?

jbee1979 · 24/09/2014 19:32

hi LIG i didn't have a plan on Monday - and it added to my anxiety! ! i went on my own as DH had to work. i rang him and said "we have a heartbeat and an 8wk old baby" then i started to bawl. it was just sheer relief. i would have had to break it on the phone. He'll be there for the booking scan because work will have to know (we work together) I'm so fat I'm sure my assistant manager knows already. he saw me sliding a sign about outside yesterday and ran out going "don't do that, you'll hurt yourself! !"

before BFP I'd put on 8lbs since MMC in March. i only put on 4lbs in first 12wks of that pregnancy - so i was 12 lbs overweight to start this one and i'm terrified at the thought of weighing myself - so i won't! ! i don't feel good about it - but at least I'm fat for a reason Smile

good luck with the scans tomorrow ladies xx

TinyTear · 24/09/2014 20:13

After my last two MCs I went on comfort eating spree so now trying to be better. I think I have lost 1kg in the last week but will see how it goes on other appointments...

Thanks all for your kind words. Thankfully I had a super busy day with lots of patients to see so it flew by. Didn't really have much time to think about things at all which was a god send. Fell asleep as soon as I got home though.

Good luck for tomorrow stuntman hopefully you can break the wonderful news to your DH at last

I too have definitely put on weight since the mmc in June! I drank far too much wine and indulged in all the foods I couldn't have after we found out he bad news. Had to be done! We deserve it!

Shetland · 25/09/2014 07:33

Good luck today stuntman

TinyTear · 25/09/2014 08:08

I'm waiting for my scan now, it's at 10:40. What time is yours Shetland? I'm thinking positive thoughts. DS3 is here with me so he'll get to see his baby brother or sister first even though he won't have a clue what's going on as he's not quite two.
