Has anybody here got a magic wand? My dd tantraums the now are really getting me down, feel like im at my wits end !! She is 4 and half and i feel if she isnt getting her own way or is asked to anything she doesnt want to she's kicking off, from the minute she opens her eyes i feel like she is whinging & complaining and is will not back down when told no, i honestly dont think i will have the energy to deal with a newborn & her behaviour ... Im just so tired & exhausted and know im going to feel alot worse when this baby comes along.., sorry for the long post but any suggestions would be appreciated but i think i have tried every behaviour strategy ... I love her so much and constantly praise & reward when she does something nice or kind and in an appropriate way ??? Think my exhaustion has a big part to play but i know thats not going to

Bumpforme2014 · 22/07/2014 21:02

I did the same in the first trimester Fatpony, we googled as well and decided it was probably fine. When I asked midwife if I could take any brand of omega 3 fish oil she said yes. I really wouldn't worry too much I think loads of these 'do not take when pregnant' are to cover their own backs. If you are that worried can you call that new NHS direct number whatever it is now and ask them?

STIGZ · 22/07/2014 21:03
  • improve with a newborn .. If only my exhuastion will only get worse, im starting to get anxious on how i will cope when no 2 is here... :(
Kirstipops · 22/07/2014 21:18

Hey fatpony, I've been taking "Pregnacare plus Omega-3" supplements every day-ish, the omega 3 capsules are 600mg, so if you've only taken 15 x 1000mgs over the the space of a month that's prob about level with me! Omega 3 isn't taken from the liver of the fish, it's taken from the flesh so has higher concentrated levels of EPA and DHA (which my Pregnacare box informs me contributes to development of the eye and brain of the baby).
Maybe it's just the levels that the bottle is warning against rather than the ingredients themselves, but since you've not been taking it every day it's prob OK, plus if you think of little pregnant eskimo ladies eating lots of fish throughout their pregnancies I'm sure 15 little capsules will be fine Grin

fatpony · 22/07/2014 21:24

Thanks, my DH has been saying 'but what about Japanese ladies who eat tons of oily fish'....I'm feeling incredibly stupid and must pay attention to packets from now on...from a bit more research it seems it is the vitamin A/retinol in fish (liver) oil that is potentially negative but the bottle doesn't mention vit A at all so beginning to calm down a bit....

fatpony · 22/07/2014 21:27

hey stigz that doesn't sound easy at all. Does she understand consequences yet? I remember my sister when she had three boys under six having some success with enforcing quite tough consequences for poor behaviour. Sometimes tantrums and grumpiness can just be because they can't verbalise properly. MN has a section under 'being a parent' called behaviour/development where posters may have similar experiences....

ExcitedCJ · 22/07/2014 21:43

I'm sure you have tried this already but it works for me. STIGZ do you use naughty step? My 3 year 4 month old is the same, especially if not well enough rested. I ask 3 times, then tell her on the 3rd time that I have asked 3 times & if she does not do whatever it is by the time I count from 5 to 1 then it's naughty step. She has only been on naughty step twice ever. I am very consistent. 3 mins on naughty step & if she moves, it's back on & time starts again. Main thing is to remain very calm while saying it.

ohthegoats · 22/07/2014 21:55

To whoever it was saying that they are being kept awake by movements - me too. Maaaaan, I'm sitting here on the sofa right now with an incredible amount of shifting going on - it's like there are two of us sat here, one of us (clue - not me) with ants in their pants. My whole bump is shifting from side to side. Big pokes up under my ribs/into my bladder. That will go on all night, especially if I accidentally lie sleeping on my stomach.

ohthegoats · 22/07/2014 22:05

Actually feels like it's trying to get out - aliens style. Ouchy.

STIGZ · 22/07/2014 22:11

Thanks fatpony & cj - yeah she is aware of consequences and i do put her on time out but i feel just now i am putting her in time out for everything because she will just not listen or do as she is asked - i also have pgp so getting her to time out is difficult because im so sore & she wont voulantery go on it so i have to lift her to it - its getting impossible the bigger i get it and not to mention agony!! ... Im maybe thinking now i need a diffrent consequence ??

mum2kiss · 22/07/2014 22:19

Could you Dd be tired stigz? My Dd is Satan himself when she's tired! Her tantrums at age four were vile! I realised that I had started to.let a lot of boundaries slide over time. I got back firmly to routine and didn't let even the slightest whinge or rudeness go by. It took a few days but I brought her in line. She still has the occasional tantrum and she is so headstrong but once I check myself and think about where I've let her push boundaries I am able to snap her out of it!

mum2kiss · 22/07/2014 22:21

Oh and I brought bed time forward by 30 mins as I found she was just so exhausted when she came home from school. It started to feel like as soon as she saw me demon child would surface and I'd be at my wits end trying to deal with her!

fedupofrainydays · 22/07/2014 22:32

I second the demon child being brought on by tiredness. My son is just awful if tired. Manifests itself in tantrums and disobedience / defiance. And he's only 2.5!

So hot tonight. Ugh.

DH just made me decide on new dishwasher and kitchen sink and taps in half an hour. Not even thought what I want before. Pissed off. I like to take time over these decisions. They are important, right? Spending a bloody fortune on this building work so i have for to like it!

fedupofrainydays · 22/07/2014 22:33

Oh and I also took fish oil. Just avoided ones that come from liver. Mine is tesco. But forget to take it now which is probably bad as can't stomach fish so not really getting any of the oily fish goodness we should consume.

porcito · 23/07/2014 00:57

I think the retinol thing is more of an issue in the first trimester anyway when everything's developing from scratch so even if you were to have a couple of mg mixed in with normal fish oil, I doubt it wouldn't make any difference. No one here has ever even heard of the avoiding liver etc. and they all seem to have normal babies by the truckload so don't worry!

Another one whose baby is some kind of alien vampire thing at night. It doesn't sleep, I'm sure. I've been waking up on my stomach and my back and it feels like she's about to throw herself out of my stomach!

fedupofrainydays · 23/07/2014 07:00

Woken up with a horrible cold. Now obsessed with thinking I've got listeria from the dodgy salad (as can manifest itself as cold / flu symptoms) and / or have the virus that my friends baby had who I saw on Monday (didn't know about virus until she came out in a rash when I was there) but she had a cold and been sick, had diarrhoea the day before (thanks for telling me hey).
Just burst into tears on my walk to the stari

fedupofrainydays · 23/07/2014 07:02

Stupid phone. ... On walk to station. Just get so worried about these things. Am I being ridiculous? Have I just got a cold?
Baby not moved yet today either, or haven't felt it.

Oh, October and having a healthy baby could not come sooner. I am such a nut job :(

I'm pretty sure I read the other day that stress can reduce fetal movement so all the worrying may be why you've not felt anything.

I'm afraid you'll have to get used to people failing to mention that their children are not well too! It is highly annoying but has happened to is SO many times!

binkybunny · 23/07/2014 07:53

Agree with mum stress does seem to reduce movement as stresed at work at the mo and baby doesnt move much until I get home and relax then goes crazy!

Deli platters are one thing I've been able to stomach throughout pregnancy and I've not worried as I'm sure all the hot sunny places like Italy dont stop eating them when pregnant! Also feta is one cheese I am eating tons of for protein. Have gone off meat and developed a lactose intolerance with pregnancy.

I had the best treat ever last night for my birthday. An ice cold glass of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. It was like heaven! Hoping the mw doesnt pick it up in my blood and urine tests this morning though Blush

Realised last night that I only have 8 weeks til classed as full term. Scary stuff Shock

Love the bump picks btw

Me23 · 23/07/2014 08:27

Don't worry binky we don't check your urine and bloods for alcohol! Sometimes check for drugs if known drug user and we have to ask permission first.

Feta cheese is fine and yummy!

fedup try not to worry I have a cold too it's going around have also had a few episodes or ahem loose stool, but that just part and parcel of th joys of the digestive system in pregnancy I go from both extremes of constipation to almost diarrhea.

I have just had my lucozade for my mini gtt what a lovely breakfast! Going to get my 28 week bloods done at clinic then off to gp surgery for whooping cough vaccine. Though id have a morning of needles then plannig on relaxing in coffee shop with some cake! (Not looking good for my mini gtt result) hopefully I'll be ok haven't had any signs of gd in previous pregnancies though I was never tested as was a different hospital and you only get tested if you have risk factors.

Anyone else got cats? I have 3. One if them decided to poo and lots of it in the spare room (leads out to garden) last night was so disgusting had to get OH to clean it up he wasn't happy! Luckily that carpet is going soon.

Sorry quite a poo heavy post for the morning! I forget sometimes I'm a bit too comfortable taking about bodily functions.

binkybunny · 23/07/2014 08:45

me wish I'd known that I'd have had a slightly larger glass as it was literally 3 mouthfuls!

Also I have found pregnancy has made me talk about poo and other bodily functions a lot more. I think its a bit tmi for poor dh sometimes. Grin

tak1ngchances · 23/07/2014 08:53

I am also having loose stools! Normally I eat breakfast, go to the loo and am done for the day.
But now I am having all kinds of extra surprises thrown in during the day & even night!

cabster · 23/07/2014 09:16

Opposite here. Iron tablets. dances the Black Bottom

Trying to entertain a 20 month old in this heat is no fun! Taking an emergency day off as my parents who normally have DD have been up all night with D&V :(

DD thinks an appropriate outfit for today is nappy and wellies. I'm not about to contradict her!

Found a nice button through leopard print nightie on amazon for BFing, got one eye on the hospital bag already!

cabster · 23/07/2014 10:02

me23 my cat has just left me the gift of hair balls, all over the bedroom carpet. So thoughtful.
