pourquoi that's not great at all (and I'm so sorry about your mum Flowers) where we are, your first appointment is with a community midwife and thereafter you are under the care of the midwife at your local medical practice. So you do build up some continuity - eventually. I find scans very stressful too. I think it's natural. All the best for tomorrow.

Re baby movements, I felt my first at 16 weeks and my second at 11 weeks. But I swear I have felt movement this time from just under nine weeks. People can tell me it's impossible but a 9 week bean does move and I know when it's wind. No one believes me. I'm 10 weeks now and feel it every night!

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 21/05/2014 21:22

Good luck for your scan too Somerset. At least I'm not the only one nervous though, (although obviously ideally we'd never have any reason to be nervous at all). My dh is excited too, he doesn't understand why I'm so worried.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 21/05/2014 21:23

And thank you for the kind words Daddypig, it's appreciated. Smile

Sorry to hear about your loss treacle glad you're on the mend

pourquoi grieving is like no other feeling in the world but if you focus on the little baby growing inside you! hopefully it'll help with relieving the sadness a bit. My last period was on the day I lost my nan who was like a second mum to me- I just can't help thinking there's a connection. Maybe I'm just silly. I also lost my dad 9 years ago and I think about him everyday and he will live in my child one day. You will see your mum in your baby maybe.

Sorry have been offline. So I'm 11weeks but spend today in Eye emergency with iritis, which I used to get. Last week I had to have ECG for my heart rate being too fast- 120 when I'm resting. It's always been on the fast side but the pregnancy has pushed it up a bit. Scan on 2nd June so a bit of a wait still.

littlepickly · 21/05/2014 21:53

Thank you daddypig, I'm so sure I can feel it moving and it happens at the sort of intervals you'd expect. Must be another wild baby girl in there!

All the best to all those with scans soon - looking forward to hearing about your wriggly babies Smile

KateJ28 · 21/05/2014 22:07

Hi everyone - busy day on the old thread, just been catching up!

porquoi I'm really sorry to hear about your Mum and how you've been palmed around between the midwives Cake - maybe that is a reason to tell them how you've been feeling though, they might make it a priority to make sure you have the one to one service... maybe see how you feel when you meet her and find out how warm and approachable she is.

Can't believe people are already about to have 12 wks scans...exciting. Mine isn't until 20 June, so ages away, but I did have a reassurance scan today and all is well - baby measuring exactly as it should for 8 weeks and good strong hearbeat Smile. Went out for a curry to celebrate, which won't help the bloating or gas, but oh well!!

Emily has your bleeding stopped now? I hope you're okay - not long until the scan now!

Treacle, glad to hear you're on the mend, physically at least. I hope you're still getting lots of love and looking after from the people around you.

By the way, I've been looking into NCT antenatal classes and am trying to decide whether to sign up. Does anybody have any views/experiences??

I'm seeing the mw for my booking in appt next Weds so will ask her view & find out what's available on the NHS, but it'd be good to hear what others think. I like the idea of being properly prepared and reassured with my DH before the birth and it gives him chance to get more involved, plus it'd be nice to meet local mums in the same boat - and lots of people say the friends you meet is the best thing about it. However it's not cheap at £150-£300 depending on the course.

Treaclepie19 · 21/05/2014 22:16

Thank you kate xxx Today's struggle is preparing for my first day alone tomorrow.

littlepickly · 21/05/2014 22:38

Kate - I didn't do NCT with my first pregnancy as we were trying to save money but in hindsight I wished I had of done it for the network of friends it gives you doing through the same thing at the same time. Friends of mine who've done it have kept in touch with the people they met and it really seemed to work well for them.

I told myself I would just go to lots of mum & baby groups but the reality of doing that when baby is already here and then making new mum friends is harder I think.

NCT is expensive but if you can afford it I'd definitely do it Smile

ImBrian · 21/05/2014 22:43

pourquoi my scans tomorrow as well and I'm also shitting myself. I couldn't sleep last night and I think tomorrow's going to drag like mad.

I can feel the top of my uterus above my pubic bone by quite a bit now so I'm hoping that's a good sign. If my wombs growing hopefully there's a baby in it! A healthy one as well fingers crossed.

Has anyone bought maternity clothes yet? I got some new look skinnies from asos and they are brilliant. Sizing comes up a bit big, I'm pushing a 12 normally and the 10 is slightly baggy but they are so comfy!

stripeymonster · 21/05/2014 23:19

Well 12 + 6 today and bit of a roller-coaster of emotions. After my scan yesterday I was feeling really positive until I got a phone call this evening from my midwife with my blood results. It turns out my blood now contains a rare antibody known as The 'Big E' - which is not great at all for pregnant women due to increased chance of still birth during the second half of the pregnancy. My case has been forwarded to the consultant and I just have to wait for an appointment. What annoys me most is this antibody must have been transferred to me when I needed a blood transfusion following the birth of my second daughter. Also due to the rarity of the blood type (2 % of the population) if I ever need an emergency blood transfusion again - it's going to be difficult to find the correct blood type. Brilliant! How can things go from being fine to rubbish in such a short amount of time? Sorry self indulgent rant over!

oohdaddypig · 22/05/2014 06:51

stripey that's annoying. I don't understand these antigens but I think you have to have lots of blood tests to check levels? I have had transfusions too - I don't understand why they don't match e antigens so this doesn't happen, or am I simplifying things too much? Great that your scan went well x

I did do NCT and found the course OK but met some really nice people who I'm still in touch with so for that reason alone I would recommend it. But my friend met some lovely people through her NHS antenatal class so I don't think there is only one option. I did find NCT irritating in terms if its home birth plug and complete lack of acknowledgement that breast feeding doesn't work for everyone....

imbrian what does the too if the womb feel like?! :)

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 22/05/2014 07:51

9 weeks today and I'm going home this evening, yaaaay!

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 22/05/2014 08:59

Migraine and a day of public transport, meetings, and arseness. Just want the next two days over with then am on a weeks holiday. Tempted to call in sick and live with the consequences.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 22/05/2014 09:00

Just feel so illConfused

porsmork · 22/05/2014 10:03

Hi Spider,

I'm off work with a horrible cold and have been since Tuesday. Not the first time I've taken this much time off in the 11 weeks so far either!

It's so hard not to feel guilty about work, but the best thing you can do is look after yourself and your new life. Screw work, in a few weeks time they won't even remember you had time off.

PunkyPod · 22/05/2014 11:30

I've just had my scan, all went really well I'm happy to say and my dates have stuck at 12+4, EDD 30th November.

EmilyPinkOrBlue · 22/05/2014 11:57

Porsmork I was off end of last week due to a cold as you say you need to be selfish and think of number one. Hope you feel better v soon!

EmilyPinkOrBlue · 22/05/2014 12:01

Kate thank you for asking after me :) no bleeding last night which feels like a triumph after 2 evenings of seeing red blood on the trot. Fingers crossed there isn't any tonight and I can put it behind me. It's just so worrying because people say that they found out they had a mc and had none or very little blood :( I just hope that isn't me. Will be devastated Saturday if so :( but need to think positive!!!!

ChineseFireball · 22/05/2014 12:15

Treacle I can't add anything to what others have said really. Thanks Thanks Thanks

Drew hope everything is ok. And good news that Emily 's bleeding has eased off.

I'm really jealous of all the lovely scans! I'm still in huge denial really, even though I'm hugely nauseous. Booking appointment all done including the CO test which was new to me.

We did NCT classes first time round. Learned very little of use (for us - DS' birth was a bit wham, bam) but met other couples, and the ladies still, 2+ years later, met up weekly. I'm the only one left without 2 children so it's also been really useful seeing what's been going on with 2nd babies. If you ask, there are certain circumstances when you can get a discount on the course fees too.

EmilyPinkOrBlue · 22/05/2014 12:17

Re NCT chat I will definitely be doing both the Nhs one and a private one because I I've never really been around babies and none of my local friends have children so am worried in going to feel really isolated when the baby is born so hope to meet some new people at the classes :) may also do pregnancy yoga when I go on maternity leave

Porquoi when is your scan today? We are date buddies aren't we? 3rd dec? Let us know how it goes :) also so sorry about your mum :( I'm sure you will see her reborn in your child :)
