emily you don't have to have a medicalised birth in a hospital. You can be in a midwife led unit. I appreciate there are many positive stories about home births but please think really carefully about it for your first baby as you have no idea how your own body will react. I did consider a home birth for my first, as was low risk and decided against it. I am not sure i would have pulled through had I delivered at home. I think they are great for second time but from mine and friends experiences I think its possibly ill advised first time round. Sorry if this offends anyone - it's something I feel strongly about.....

peace if you are hypothyroid, won't the midwife understand that is the cause of your weight gain? I hope you get an understanding midwife x

sasseh you poor thing. Did they admit you due to dehydration? Can you keep water down?

I am currently living off pork pies, crisps and chocolate. I feel like I'm an experiment in the effects of the most horrendous diet ever!

drewswife I'm sorry you were miserable on holiday. Maybe get one in for diary for second trimester when we shall all bloom!! (Yeah right Grin

whatsone I think it's amazing you have al these little ones in your house. Mind are 4 and 2 and are hard enough work as it is!

Hi ladies,

Just popping on to say I've had my 12 wk scan today and all is well Smile

Was very nervous after mmc in December but was very good to see a lovely little baby in there with heart beating away - the sonographer was great and pointed out loads of stuff to us - much different than with DD!

She's changed my dates slightly as I excepted so my new due date is 1st December (a week before my birthday - eek) and I am now 11+4

Feeling very happy now and slightly odd as I can't believe it's real!!

Happy Friday everyone Smile

p.s Emily - I have been thinking about a home birth too as my first was straight forward and I like the idea of being tucked up at home, my friend has had two wonderful home births, at the moment I'm undecided - there seems to be a lot of negative press about it at the moment too so I'm going to think on it a while yet.

Have been booked into the EPU for a scan on Monday as I've been getting some localised pain on one side with a slight bit of light pink spotting. MW has said she's sure its nothing to worry about but has booked me in for my piece of mind as I was quite upset when I called her. I'm not sure what to expect at the EPU...
It's going to be a long old weekend :S

LisaC2611 · 16/05/2014 15:15

peace don't worry about your weight affecting a scan. I am also overweight and when I had my scan a couple of weeks ago they saw my little bean straightaway and they never said anything about my weight.

I know exactly what you mean about being fat and fit. I lost 5.5 stone before I fell pregnant and I am fitter than some people who are half my size. I ran 5k-8k regularly (although this has gone to pot since I found out I was pg as I am now struggling to run) but I'm still doing as much as I can, I see my pt once a week and still lifting the same weight I did before my pregnancy.

I will still probably be classed as high risk as my BMI is over 30, but to be honest with you BMI is a load of crap! I could row for England with drs over this. I have a normal percentage of body fat but this is not taken into account at all because I have a high BMI. I am fitter than some of the stick insects out there that smoke, drink and don't do any form of exercise but that is also irrelevant grrrr.

As long as you stay as active as possible throughout your pg you will be fine and don't worry about what anyone says to you - you know the truth.

nickyjlees · 16/05/2014 15:45

ps congratulations on the good news littlepickly !

LittleSarah · 16/05/2014 15:58

Re home births. They are not for everyone but I think if you are keen and comfortable in a non medicalised environment they are great. I know many women who birthed at home, even with their first, including me, and all was well. Do read up though, there is plenty of evidence around risks and so on, both in hospital and at home and only you can judge what is best for you.

If you are interested in finding out more and if you have one in your area I would go to a home birth group, you get advice, stories and also good accurate info on what to expect, risks, etc. often midwives are there too so you get the professionals' view too.

Also, my cousin, who has her two at home is about a size twenty. She did have to fight for it though but she did it at home in a pool.

Emily - I won't go into too much detail on my births on here but I can PM you if you would like to know more.

KateJ28 · 16/05/2014 16:23

Happy Friday everyone and congrats on the scan littlepickly! Glad all's well. I can't believe people are already having their 12 wk scans and mine is still over a month to go!!

I'm definitely going into the midwife unit (next to the hospital in case of an emergency) as this is baby number 1. Hadn't even considered a home birth tbh and just don't want to take any risks as this is all new to me. I spoke to my friend who has one child the other day and she had him at home and though it all went okay, she did say never again! Her view was she's like to keep her bedroom somewhere for sleep and sex!

Perhaps I'll change my view when I speak to the mw and look around the unit, but that's where I am at the mo!

Feeling really tired and queasy today. Does anybody else have to keep eating to keep sickness at bay?! I feel about an hr after eating anything my stomach empties and I start to feel sick again! At this rate, gonna be the size of a moose by the time I have the baby!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/05/2014 16:44

Thank you all for the support and general kick up the arse I needed :) feeling a bit better now. I managed to do some housework so feel like I accomplished something, even if it doesn't look much different!

After all my talk about what a healthy eater I am, I have to admit that all I want in the world for dinner is sweetcorn soup from the Chinese, and by god, it's what I'm going to have.

Treaclepie19 · 16/05/2014 16:50

That's not going to hurt you! Think about me having a massive Indian tonight haha.
It is my birthday meal though.

Treaclepie19 · 16/05/2014 16:51

(Birthday monday not today haha)

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/05/2014 16:51

Happy birthday Treacle!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 16/05/2014 16:52

Oops x post!

Treaclepie19 · 16/05/2014 16:53

Hehe thank you in advance :)

ots · 16/05/2014 16:54

Good luck Monday Nicky How many weeks are you? I had a scan at the EPU on Wednesday at 7+2. It was an internal scan which was a bit undignified but no worse than a smear.
We saw baby on screen and got to see it's heart beating too which was amazing. Mine was also due to pain on one side and pink/brown spotting. All ok with baby, hope its the same for you x

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 16/05/2014 16:57

Peace, I was a size 18-20 before I concieved (had just lost a stone). Am just back from the shops having had to buy some clothes in a 22-24 :( I am only 5 foot 2 so I look like a ball with tits! The scan will be fine. I had one at 8 weeks and it showed up well. As yet no one has been horrible and if they do they are getting a gob full. Its their job to support a woman through her pregnancy, not to make her feel like shit. Do they think we don't know we're fat and its less than ideal when pregnant? "whoooa whaddaya mean I'm obese? Thought I was a size 8!!! Fuuuuuck! Thanks Doc! I'll go back in time and lose 4 stone before I get up the duff!!!"

Dont worry, you are healthy and any nurse or doc or midwife makes you feel bad, puke on their ugly utilitarian shoes.

nickyjlees · 16/05/2014 17:02

Hi ots, I'm 11+5. Thanks so much for sharing your experience, it's really great to have some reassurance from someone who has been in the same situation. Fingers crossed I will also have good news to tell on Monday! X

Somersetgirl1990 · 16/05/2014 17:28

Kate I feel like that, but I hardly ever do actually eat, I just put up with feeling sick without meaning to Hmm and I'm still putting on SO much weight! I don't understand Confused I was hoping feeling so crap and being off food would make me lose at least a little so that I didn't put on so much over the whole 9 months! I'm hoping once this first trimester is finally out of the way I may be able to think about eating slightly healthier food Grin

So exciting to hear about everyone's scans!! Mines a week today and I'm quite scared Blush I had a reassurance scan at 8 weeks and everything was fine, I haven't had any pain or blood, does that mean it's going to be ok? What are the chances of something going wrong and my body not picking up on it? God I've turned into an anxious wreck since being pregnant! So glad my dp isn't the same!

SassehMonsta · 16/05/2014 17:45

Discharged from hospital this afternoon after being able to keep the anti sickness needs down orally (yesterday had to have them by iv). Had 2 & a half bags of fluid pumped in and eventually got my ketones down to normal again and my blood pressure up slightly (high resting heartbeat, but hey, can't have everything). So glad to be able to eat something! Managed toast & dry frosties on the ward, then had chocolate covered raisins, toast and a sandwich since I got in, and would have had another but I've run out of jam and i really really want jam. Or maybe chicken and sweetcorn soup...! I've missed food so much.

Had scan in hospital, baby measuring at around 9 weeks, and very very wiggly!! No wonder it's needing lots of my energy, silly thing!! My mum was able to come in with me as she had popped in to see me (despite it not being visiting hours!) and she thought it was wonderful. She asked about the blog next to baby and discovered it was yolk sac, as she's usually the one lying down not looking at the moving images! No photo to take home as it was in the gynae wars emergency scanner room rather than in ultrasound department.

Very glad to be home, but wishing dh would wait on me more ;)

Glad you're on the mend Sasseh!

KateJ28 · 16/05/2014 21:39

Glad you're home sasseh!

And you should eat somerset! I've found it makes me feel so much better :-) just have to try and make sure I have lots of healthy snacks around so I don't just snack on crisps and cheese on toast!!!

PolytheneGirl · 16/05/2014 23:07

Completely forgot who asked for this link the other day, which I also forgot to post. I'm going to blame baby brain. link to Tshirt

Off to catch up on the thread now.... Hope everyone is ok!

Ladylel · 17/05/2014 04:37

Even though it's 430 I've already had a better sleep as I brought a double pack pregnancy pillow in Argos for £9.99. Comes with one v shape and a 'memory' foam back support. The curly one I wanted has to be ordered in and I wanted it now. Best thing ever. Recommend if you haven't already got one!

Rejjie · 17/05/2014 09:05

Congratulations on your scan littlepickly. How lovely. I'm getting very impatient for mine on June 10th.

nickyjlees Good luck with your scan. I know it's hard but try to stay calm. It seems from the posts on here that it's a pretty common occurrence.

Treaclepie19 Happy birthday for Monday. Its my birthday then too.

SassehMonsta Glad you are home and all is well.

Ladylel Is it item number 144/4713. Trying to find it in Argos from your description.

DrewsWife · 17/05/2014 10:42

Shanels · 17/05/2014 12:42

Hi girls
My scan date has come in for 5th June but I'll be 13+1 then. Isn't that a bit late? Should I be worried? Maybe I should book a private?

Glad you're out if hospital sasseh you poor thing
