My sister is giving us my nephew's cot with a new mattress and a changing station, so right now my main texcuse! to bag a chest of drawers (Ikea or EBay), a rocking chair (always wanted one, now I have an excuse!) and bedding and other roomy accessories I prob haven't thought of!
Mum2 your MIL sounds like a horror, glad you have your DH on side to give you support and back up! Jeez reading that really made my blood boil!

My main task* is to bag a chest of drawers etc even!

We gave our must haves: baby can face us until no longer needing a pushchair, must not be a three wheeler and would like a travel system. To be honest Dad know's more about having a baby than we do. We could go and get very involved in the pushchair thing and try to develop our prejudices about what we'd want but I'm so happy my Dad is as interested and involved that it feels no difficulty to trust him to make as wrong a decision as we would :-) He was taking about baby/child going there for holidays the other day. Really chuffed with that. I also think that its such a generous offer we'll choose to be happy with what we get Smile

mum2kiss · 08/05/2014 20:55

Annoyingly she's reasonably nice to my face. Then she sends dp text messages saying what she really thinks! It seems like since we announced I am.pregnant she thinks she has even more of a say!

CellyD · 08/05/2014 21:08

Mum your MIL sounds very trying, luckily she doesn't live round the corner from you.

Re furniture, we got a Mamas and Papas wardrobe and chest of drawers from eBay for £50. Nearly 4 years later, they are both still in great condition.

This time around I've got my eye on a rocking chair (not essential, but I've decided I really want one). It will be eBay all the way as there's no way my budget can justify £500 for a brand new one.

puppythedog · 08/05/2014 21:09

mum2kiss I'm horrified at what she said, very chuffed to hear your DP told her off. The more bad behaviour is condoned the more you can expect, how ever old the person with the terrible twos attitude is! If any of my family did that they would be told they were not welcome back unless the apologised.
Maybe we should all come to yours for Dinner and then text her after to say what we think of dinner and her attitude? Hmm

mum2kiss · 08/05/2014 21:15

Lol puppy its as if she thinks we were on an episode of come dine with me! They are from the Caribbean, as are my grandparents...because of this fact (despite both my mother and I being born and raised here) she says she expected full caribbean sunday dinner. I did a Caribbean soup (which required the purchase of specific west indian food!) And she says it disappointed her...she said soup is not what you have for sunday dinner...well guess what?! Ive told dp she wont be getting any of my dinner ever again!

puppythedog · 08/05/2014 21:20

mmm soup

STIGZ · 08/05/2014 21:32

Had my gender scan earlier and was really surprised when she told me what it was .,,, another girl for us!!

I was 90% sure it was a boy !! Parnter said girl!! DD said boy

We are chuffed to bits !! Got a wee peek in 3d she looked so cute on the screen, but pics look a bit freaky! DD said she looked like she was doing gangnam style then proceeded to show the sonogropher her version!!

Better start looking at girls names as only looked at boys so far!!

mum2kiss · 08/05/2014 21:35

Great news stigz :)

TroubleAndFyfe · 08/05/2014 21:40

Congratulations Stigz, how exciting!

ohthegoats · 08/05/2014 22:36

Ooh stigz, how interesting. We're so sure ours is a girl, I'm not even imagining life with a boy. Not that they'd be much difference, but you know. All visuals involve a girl. If it's a boy it'll be weird.

Bumpforme2014 · 08/05/2014 22:42

Oh congrats stigz! I am 90% mines a boy so like you will be shocked if it's girl and need to start preparing myself for possibility of it not being a boy but for some reason cannot get my head around having a daughter haha

ohthegoats · 08/05/2014 22:53

Holy crap, we've just done 5 minutes on boys names. This child needs to be a girl for its own safety.

porcito · 09/05/2014 00:13

Congrats Stigz!!

I've got my scan in an hour...eek. Waiting all day, with nothing to do in exam halls, has driven me crazy!

I'm the same bump, for some reason, my head has boy, but I have no idea why. We'll see. I think we might have to end up numbering our children if the names debate continues in our house...

binkybunny · 09/05/2014 06:50

mum your MIL sounds like a nightmare! At least DH didnt try and shrug it off.

ohthegoats we're having our scan at 21+4 as DH is away at 20 weeks. They offered an appointment at 22 weeks so I'm sure it will be fine to change it!

I wanted a really nice sleigh cotbed but have decided 450 is just too much. Had a look at one in Asda and I'm actually surprised at how nice it is for 130 and its the vanilla colour we want. There's a matching rocking chair for 130 too with a footstool. We already have a spare set of drawers, blanket box which will now be a toy box and the room has built in wardrobes. Cant wait to hang all our little baby clothes up. Ikeas have the cutest little wooden hangers!

binkybunny · 09/05/2014 06:54

On names and MIL we have chosen Isabella and have said we are going to use Izzy for short. MIL keeps saying Belle which is really peeing me off as shes doing it on purpose and told me its her grandchild she'll call her what she likes Angry

We have also said we dont really want newborn outfits that are top to toe blue or pink. Again I got told she wasnt interested and she'll buy and dress 'her little lamb' in what she wants.

Thank God they live 6000 miles away!

ohthegoats · 09/05/2014 07:06

Wow I'm so lucky with my mil. She's staying at the moment, but has come down with her sister to strip 4 layers of wallpaper from the landing! last night she took us out for dinner and insisted I had a glass of red. She even paid for me to have meat, despite being a vegan herself. No mention of prams, clothes, or until she was drunk, even my bring pregnant. She cried at the scan photo tho!

puppythedog · 09/05/2014 07:19

Nice ohthegoats my PILS are fantastic, they have their foibles but it's easy to ignore the irritating ones.

Binky I can't imagine any of my family feeling confident to talk like that to us, I think in part because they wouldn't get many opportunities to [not saying they would end up under the patio a la Beth Jordash]

Loulou888 · 09/05/2014 07:34

Goes without saying my mil is hard work and doing my head in. Good job they are too lazy to make the one hour drive over to us. They've been twice in 18 months. I will be putting my foot down to going over there very often kids are at school and have activities at the weekend

binkybunny · 09/05/2014 07:35

The first words my MIL said to me when I met her having spent 12 hours on an overnight flight were 'let me see the woman who has stolen my boy from me'. It wasnt said with a smile!

mrsb87 · 09/05/2014 07:55

Wow binky that's horrid!! My mil made t
our relationship a war zone until we got married and . It was like a switch flicked hin her head and everything was peachy perfect! We get no pushy behaviour at all now. Sil's husband is a bit weird though and they have a continuous problem with him and his attitude. He has a creepy air to him, the sort you don't want to be left alone in a room with . So I'm a bit of a golden girl compared!

Loulou888 · 09/05/2014 08:09

Binky my mil calls me the one who took her boy away.... We only live an hour away grrrr she's got her daughter on the doorstep

ohthegoats · 09/05/2014 08:29

Mine sometimes looks at me a bit oddly, almost sort of jealously, but my boyfriend is her only child and she had wanted more. He's pretty precious to her, they are quite close. But I know she likes me, we are similar in lots of ways - so that helps.

In the other direction, my SIL is strange. Hard to talk to, quite the opposite of my brother. My parents fine her hard work, so the fact that my boyfriend drinks wine and gets loud and (in his mind) hilarious, is a good thing for them. At the weekend my very understated dad said "Yeah, he grows on you..." I assume he didn't mean like mould.

Oklahoma · 09/05/2014 10:20

Mine PILs are fab too. MIL had 2 sons and I think really wanted a daughter so has just kind of cast me in that role. It's nice to feel welcome but it can be a bit overwhelming sometimes!
