I'm feeling overwhelmed today. So many things to think about and even when you've got the list sorted the narrowing down of choices is so difficult.

Also mad how things seem to vary so much depending on where you live. I wont get to hear baby's heartbeat until 28 weeks as they don't allow it here (Manchester) so as not to worry people (NICE Guidelines apparently).

I'm thinking of hiring a doula too but not sure if it'll put DPs nose out of joint. Also not sure exactly what they do and how much they charge.

pebble82 · 07/05/2014 18:43

Oooh one good thing is that I'm working at the baby show NEC next week so will get to have a proper look round this time. Anyone else going?

LondonJen · 07/05/2014 19:18

Lovely to hear loulou

Good luck Porcito

Sorry Gun I hope you're out of pain soon

Gosh Pebble 28 weeks is a very long way in. That sucks.

Hello to new faces

I had no idea about the car seat thing! It's good news though as now I can back up my refusal to head to any grandparents houses at xmas with that fact! Can't stomach spending all those hours on the motorway with a tiny baby. Hate it at the best of times.

Me23 · 07/05/2014 19:41

excited what happened did you have a bleed or knock to stomach? Anti d usually isn't given routinely this early. Usually given for rhesus neg at 28 weeks the. After birth is baby is positive.

STIGZ · 07/05/2014 20:04

Im starting to now really think what life will be like with another baby!! .. Think because tomorrow we will find out what we are having.,, making it seem more real now!!

I keep looking at dd and wondering if i could ever love another child as much as i love her.. I know this is probably is a normal anxiety for most people but i keep thinking how much her wee routine is going to change!!

Im feeling so guilty when im watching her playing and i know that in a few months time i cant give her my 100% attention any more.

I could sleep for scotland.. Need 10 hours to function normally, and this time around there will be "no sleeping when baby sleeps" not that dd slept much anyway!!
How do u cope during night feed stage and deal with a 4 year olds energy!!

Guess i will find out soon enough!!! Lol

Fingers crossed this one wants to sleep for scotland like its mummy!!

mum2kiss · 07/05/2014 20:25

I just bought the natal hypnotherapy hospital birth prep book and cd on ebay...is that the right one thay you've all been talking about?! I hope so!

pebble I wanted to go to a baby show but realised this weekend how soon it is! The next one near me is not until october 26th so not sure if I will get to one. Loved it when I went preggers with dc1. I went for a second time when she was a few weeks old and ended up breast feeding her most of the day lol!

ExcitedCJ · 07/05/2014 20:49

Hi Gun & Me yup O neg. Had my 16 wk appointment today & told the midwife that my DD has slam dunked with knees onto my stomach last night & it felt a little sore and tender after & I was commanded to hospital for anti-d. I'm sure they were just being over cautious but I guess better safe!
Pebble I would love to go to the baby show but my DH has banned any thought of that as I would spend more than we can afford! :)

Kirstipops · 07/05/2014 21:07

Yep mum2 that's the CD I have, I don't have the book yet though.
What's a baby show?
I was at a "baby shower" on Sunday, that was an education!

mrsb87 · 07/05/2014 21:41

Ah the baby show! Wish I was going but I'm at centre parcs when it's on. I will probably go next year though.

Captainmcgraw · 07/05/2014 21:53

ohthegoats where are you based? My sister-in-law is a doula and although she lives in South Wales which I'm guessing isn't where you are she seems to be part of lots of national doula networks and would no doubt have connections. Let me know if you want me to find out more and I'll try and then private message you.

Captainmcgraw · 07/05/2014 21:58

stigz I know how you feel. Part of me also thinks that at first I probably won't love them as much - I mean you will have that immediate protective feeling but you won't actually know them and I found that with DD it certainly took a while to feel like I knew who she was and so could completely love her if that makes sense? Hope it doesn't make me sound like a terrible mother!

Does anyone expecting their second also find it really difficult to imagine having a baby that isn't their DC? I think I'm leaning towards boy with this one as find it easier to imagine a child of the opposite sex than another of the same. I'm pretty sure when I was pregnant the first time I couldn't really imagine having a baby full-stop though.

Captainmcgraw · 07/05/2014 21:59

stigz even

tak1ngchances · 07/05/2014 22:17

Oh my lord I have eaten total crap today. Like tonnes of biscuits and crisps Blush.
I was throwing up every day until last week and couldn't stand the sight of most foods...now I have some appetite back and am mortified to say that I really went for it.
On a vair positive note, I managed to brush my teeth without retching tonight! Progress!!

gunwalloe · 07/05/2014 22:19

The great thing about love it is grows so quickly and without you even thinking about it. I loved all my 4 the minute I looked into there eyes and I know it will be the same with number 5 really don't worry about it :)

pebble82 · 07/05/2014 23:22

Mum2kiss, yeah the next major one is late October at Olympia, London. I don't think I'll be working that one (!) so this is my last before becoming a mummy.

Kirsti, the baby show is a big exhibition selling all things baby related. Lots you need and more you don't need! The best stand I've ever seen was a woman who for £10 would "read you" and tell you the ideal name for your unborn child. Nonsense!

binkybunny · 08/05/2014 06:58

Thanks everyone for the carseat advice. Pleased to hear we dont have to have a lay flat one and yes we will stop every 2 hours. We have to now anyway for ne to go to the loo! Really hoping my DH work move him down south next year so we'll be either half an hour from my family or 2 1/2 hours. Love Scotland but hate being so far away now there's a baby in the mix!

The baby show sounds great, wish we were going but I imagine I would buy lots of useless crap.

Kirstipops · 08/05/2014 07:56

Thanks pebble, I just Googled that there is one in September in Glasgow, tho like binky I reckon I'd prob just buy a lot of crap! Jeez there is a lot to buy though, would like to make a start buying bits and bobs but got so much on this month, I have 1 or 2 events per weekend throughout May at the moment, all of which require buying a gift, plus I badly have to buy some more maternity wear AND save for a driving course too, argghhh....

In other preggo related news, I've just noticed my left nipple is a bit bigger than the right, fun fun.

OP posts:
ohthegoats · 08/05/2014 09:04

My only preggo news is that my belly feels HUGE and almost as if it's causing issues with my balance. It's not, obviously, but if it feels big NOW, what state am I going to be in by September?

Oh, and boyfriend has noticed that his pop-up adverts on internet sites are all for prams and something he called (in a WTF sort of voice) 'rainbow coloured footmuff'. He is worried that when your chosen adverts are for child transportation devices, your life is essentially over. I think I need to get him used to spending time in parks and playgrounds pretty soon.

ohthegoats · 08/05/2014 09:04

Hahaha.. just thought, imagine what state he is going to be in once he experiences the germ ridden hell that is 'soft play'.

mrsb87 · 08/05/2014 10:07

ohthegoats dh has decided if we ever get (or even consider getting)a citroen Picasso or similar hos life is over and there is no point anymore! We have just changed our car for a more family friendly car, I will miss my Ford fiesta though.

ohthegoats · 08/05/2014 11:24

Oh I've got a Peugeot 107. According to boyfriend, I 'need' something bigger - I don't, and won't get anything else. I'd have to get a nappy waggon, and that aint happening. Haha.

I've just been told off by my boss for being 'more shouty than usual' - I just wanted to shout at him. Oops.

Me23 · 08/05/2014 11:37

What wrong with a Picasso? We bought one recently (5seater) as 3 kids in car seats wouldn't fit into our old tiny Renault Clio.

Also mrs you won't miss much by not going to the baby show I'd choose centre parcs every time!

I've got a constant low ache in my stomach today, thought I might be uti but dipstick is clear. Annoying!

Loulou888 · 08/05/2014 11:39

goats just make sure whatever pushchair you get can fit in your boot. My friend didn't want to but she upsized from a 107 not by a massive amount, but she just found it unpractical esp when she had shopping too.

ohthegoats · 08/05/2014 11:47

I'll just have one side of the back seat down I think. Then shopping is fine in the boot bit that's left. I can't afford to upgrade, so that's that really!

mrsb87 · 08/05/2014 12:06

If it was just the baby I had to worry about my fiesta would do just fine but I have 3 dogs to transport to my mums for visits too!
Yeah I'm so excited about centre parcs, nieces, nephews, brother and sister and their partners and my mum! It's going to be lovely to see everyone. I am having to buy a new swimsuit though as my current tankini would give everyone a bit of an eyeful!!
