Hope scan went well Zing. Am a bit intrigued about the 4d scans.... And welcome Lentil!

And yes MrsA he has a lot on his plate this summer. I just hope he does actually manage to do it as won't be too thrilled if he wants to try again!

Lovely sunny day out. Gave a riding lesson this morning to a lovely 12 year old then had my back done and now wondering whether it is too early to go to bed!!

Plateofcrumbs · 15/04/2014 18:27

What did you have done to your back incapinka? Mine has been agony again today and think I need some kind of intervention. I've ordered a ball to sit on in desperation as normal chairs are not my friend right now. Wondering if I'll be able to sneak it past the health and safety police in the office!

Incapinka · 15/04/2014 18:49

I have always had a dodgy back (grew too quickly and had a talent at falling off horses!) but after DC1 it went majorly so I try and look after it as that was horrific... I have a wonderful Mctimoney chiropractor who chips be back into place and have been seeing her every four weeks during this pregnancy and will do the same after DC2 arrives. She also gives me pressure points so I can attack myself... My pelvis is the main problem. Do try and find someone who is good. It entertains me each time I see her now that she has to get more pillows to accommodate the bump when I am lying on my stomach. Dread to think how many she will need in a couple of months!!!

fifi669 · 15/04/2014 19:55

Had midwife today, measuring 2 weeks ahead. If it gets anymore then it's onto a growth scan. Blood pressure is up a bit too Confused

Also booked in for GTT, whooping cough vaccine and waiting for a call from physio for spd.... I realised how bad it had got when I was overtaken when walking by an old man with a walking stick!

Has anyone heard from Ellie recently? I'm not really on any other threads on MN so if she's about I haven't seen her...

Welcome Lentil

mummytobejuly2014 · 15/04/2014 20:58

what is spd?
my left hip feels like my leg is guna fall off. the pain is very "bruised/muscular". its like I've been beaten in front of my hip bone to pubic bone/up through one half of hooha/through back of pelvis. sleeping on left & rolling onto right wakens me the pain is so bad, I have to sort of hold my butt cheek while I roll over. also makes me limp a bit if I sit in work too work or get up at an angle. if I get up on my right leg first it feels like im leaving the left behind & "stretching" it with the weight of my leg.
the pain can be so bad I think I'm going to wet myself. hoping some of you can help.
does anyone have any tips/is it pointless going to gp?

ismarah · 15/04/2014 21:46

Sorry mummy but that sounds like SPD. Physio referral from the GP might help.

icklekid · 16/04/2014 04:22

Hi mummy replied to your other thread but here is some more information www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/pelvic-pain-pregnant-spd.aspx def worth trip to doctors

icklekid · 16/04/2014 04:29

Fifi I get overtaken by old people all the time when my spd is at its worst. I paid for sitting in the park all afternoon/evening in agony Easter Sad dh had no sympathy as self inflicted!

plate think balls as chairs can bebon your risk assessment as reasonable adjustment if does help but probably dependent on where you work/what you do!

Arrhh hate 4am awakeness! Baby won't stop kicking!! Easter Envy

AuntieMaggie · 16/04/2014 08:20

mummy get yourself to gp for physio referral asap so that you can get some help and advice.

BlueC2 · 16/04/2014 08:25

Morning all! Sorry not posted in a whiLe though I have been reading!

zing how was your 4d scan? Hope you are feeling settled with the gender now that you have more certainty

DH and I had long chat about gender and whilst he'd got his head around having a girl last time he's really struggling this time-he only has brothers and wonders what he'd do/how to connect with a girl and doesn't fancy lots of emotions/hormones to deal with-I'm afraid I told him to man up and get his head around it as there's a 50:50 chance :)

Sorry to hear of the SPD-i know how my back revolts in an evening/at night when DS has insisted on being carried so can't imagine dealing with that the whole time.

Anyone else having weird dreams/nightmares? All mine centre around us leaving or forgetting DS1 somewhere or something happening to him and him getting hurt :( really difficult to shake them off in the night too!

28 wk MW app today (I'll be 28 weeks on sat) seems ages since I saw her so will be strange!

ZingSweetCoconut · 16/04/2014 08:34

blue

I woke up in a cold sweat from another nightmare.
there was an end of the world scenario and I didn't know what to do.
I found myself in a train, not knowing where my children were, which was horrible. yet for some reason I was stuffing my bag with knitting wool and tampons whilst looking for DS5's shoes.
Easter Confused

what the hell was that about?

fifi669 · 16/04/2014 08:36

I had a horrible dream where my unborn came to work with me in his car seat. I put him next to the radiator and forgot he was there. I checked him at the end of the day and although he was happy I was shocked he hadn't been fed/changed all that time. He had adult sick on one side of him crawling in maggots....

ZingSweetCoconut · 16/04/2014 08:47

oh and 4D scan was lovely!
seeing baby's gorgeous little face made me really happy!
and finding out for sure became fun again, I made my peace with whatever the gender before we got there - and I'm very grateful for that.

And it was just such an amazing experience, helped me to get excited about holding baby in my arms as opposed to focusing on the negatives & symptoms of pg.
really glad we went!

and a little update on house - we should exchange next week and will hopefully move on 23rd May.
fx.

Yay for successful scan zing really good news. Easter Grin
I had awful nightmare that the car rolled over 3 times and I was so scared for bump. Woke up straight after luckily but was horrible!
I agree with rosalie exercise is best for my spd as makes muscles move and strengthens them- I'm almost pain free day after gym session!

BlueC2 · 16/04/2014 13:41

My dreams seem rather tame in comparison Blush but still unpleasant nonetheless!

So glad scan went well zing :)

Well had MW app this morning-she was due to come when DS was napping this afternoon but rang and changed to this morning. Was lovely that he got to hear the heartbeat too-even if he did want to help by prodding my bump with his toy while the MW was listening-not sure baby too impressed as apparently the HB kept jumping up everytime DS prodded!! I'm measuring a week behind but MW wasn't concerned as thought baby lying sideways at the moment. Have a feeling time going to start passing v quickly now!

Plateofcrumbs · 16/04/2014 15:45

Good news all round zing! Smile

I have dreams like that fifi where I am going about my day to day life and suddenly remember I have a child to look after that I've completely forgotten about and not fed/changed etc Blush

And a general question about seeing the midwife for people who know more about this whole pregnancy thing than me. At some stage do you start talking to midwife about practical birth and baby stuff? I've only seen midwife for booking-in, which was all very tick-box, form-filling. 16 week appointment was with GP and took 2 mins. All subsequent appointments have been with consultant and have been very clinically focused. When (if ever) do I get to speak to anyone about birth options, breastfeeding and all that kind of thing? I assumed at some stage I'd have that chat with a midwife but I'm not actually scheduled to see a midwife again as it stands. I'm confused!

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 16/04/2014 16:01

plate

read through your maternity notes and joy down any ideas, preferences and questions.
then at your next appointment ask your midwife about what you want to know.

there should be antenatal NCT classes available to you, which are very useful.
find out more here:

www.nct.org.uk/courses/antenatal

anything in particular you want to know now? ask away!

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 16/04/2014 16:01

jot down

Plateofcrumbs · 16/04/2014 16:20

Zing it's more a case of when I will actually have the opportunity to see a midwife - I've not seen one since booking-in.

I've got practical Qs I will want to ask at some point about the facilities at the MLU at the local hospital etc, but I don't actually know when I'm supposed to have the opportunity to discuss it? Do I talk to the consultant? Should I still be meeting with a midwife at some point?

Maybe it's my hospital but it's surprised me in general how much you're expected to do the running on booking appointments etc. I kind of assumed once you were 'in the system' you'd automatically just get summoned to the hospital for scans and appointments etc - whereas other than booking-in and the 12 week scan, everything else seems to have been down to me to put the request in. For instance if it wasn't for people on here talking about 16 week appointments I wouldn't have even known that was something I was supposed to have arranged!

ismarah · 16/04/2014 16:31

Plate I'd give your clinic a call and ask to see a midwife. Even though I'm seeing a consultant regularly, I'm also seeing the community midwives as per the list of appointments in the binder.

Today I saw two of them - one of which is a BF specialist although I was feeling hot and bothered so declined a conversation with her. So instead if I want to make an appointment with her, there's an email address in my folder where I can request a 20 min chat, just with her.

So defo call for appt and go in armed with notes and questions like Zing said.

My bean was fine, BP normal, size spot on, still breech, anti-d delivered, whooping cough vax ordered, blood taken. Although they managed one vial and then the blood just stopped and no more came out. They had another go but gave up in the end. So I'm a bit pin-cushiony and have a blood draw form to take to the hospital next week.

Oddly(?) I also got an apology because I've not seen the same midwife two appts in a row. I'd just assumed that's how it was these days but their apology made me wonder if I'd just been unlucky.

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 16/04/2014 16:35

since week 12? that's not on!

you should have seen one at 16 weeks and 24 weeks, for general check-ups, blood, pee samples etc!

yes, call hospital and get an appointment - you are due one at 28 weeks anyway!

Plateofcrumbs · 16/04/2014 17:11

I have peed in more pots than I care to recall as they do dipstick, BP etc at every consultant appointment of which there have been a number! Consultant does heartbeat check and bump measurement each time I see her and had bloods at 16 weeks with GP. So I definitely don't feel short of monitoring! Just wondering whether I'm missing out on something. As with everything else it sounds like if you don't ask you don't get so I probably just have to request a midwife appointment at some point.

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 16/04/2014 17:16

Breaking News - DS5 has got a place at our chosen infants school! YEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!
DH has just called, I can't tell you how happy I am! massive load off my shoulders, yay, yay, yay!

Cake for everyone and Brew and Wine if you are so inclined! YES!

Plate so do you think you have consultant appointments instead of MW ones?

I'm confused, I only see consultant at hospital if to discuss something out of the ordinary - otherwise it's the midwife or dr at outr GP's.

and yes, you have to ask. and insist!
