Question - are hot baths really that bad? Was careful at the start but now its so much colder warm baths are not cutting it. We don't have any heating in the bathroom or the bedroom that the bathroom is off so warm turns to luke warm very quickly. I read somewhere today that as long as part of your belly is out of the water your ok - what do you guys think?

Redcliff · 04/01/2014 19:50

Question for you - are hot baths really that bad? The top of our house has no heating so warm baths don't really cut it this time of year . I read today that as long as part of your belly is out of the water then your ok - anyone else heard this?

GillyBillyWilly · 04/01/2014 19:55

I'm 18+5 today and think maybe ive started to feel some movements this week however they aren't 100% convincing and i can't say for definite that it isn't just digestion/general tummy movements!!!! Grin

MrsCharlieD · 04/01/2014 20:18

Hi redcliff I've been having hot showers in the hope that's a compromise. would love a bath, especially when Im really achey. i don't know how unsafe it really is though. I've also taken to kneeling in the bath until it cools a bit x x

BEEwitched · 04/01/2014 20:25

We don't have a working shower at the moment so I take nothing but baths, when my anxiety was really bad a few weeks ago it was the only way to calm my thoughts down, as well.

I did buy a baby bath thermometer and make sure it's never hotter than 39. Around 37-38 is definitely fine and most of the time that's ok for me.

Mitchell2 · 04/01/2014 20:28

I've been having hot baths. As long as I'm comfortable and not over heating then I don't think it's an issue. They say jacuzzi's should be avoided or used in short spells again I think that's due to over-heating as well.

a hot bath with some pregnancy essential oils has been the only thing keeping me going some days Smile

Bumblebeesmum · 04/01/2014 20:35

Hot showers are fine it's to do with raising your body temperature which is supposed to be not good (same as exercising too hard) so as little research done advice is for now avoid hot baths.

However - lots of countries don't have that advice & for example Sweden continue hot baths spas etc throughout pregnancy & have healthier maternal outcomes than we do (obv general lifestyle related not baths but still!) so I myself have hot baths but take in cold water and sip regularly but really depends how you feel about it

Bumblebeesmum · 04/01/2014 20:40

I had absolutely definite movements at I think 13 weeks-ish & again a few times since but still rarely & not much stronger. 16 weeks now. Whereas last time nothing till much later & then suddenly within a week or so of 1st kicks they were all the time & v noticeable so I think they just vary a lot & depends which way they're facing / what they're kicking!

SleepyNess · 04/01/2014 20:41

I don't like hot baths anyway so I have them warm and keep on topping up with hot water when needed.

BEEwitched · 04/01/2014 21:24

I've just written a check-list of questions for Monday - 13 questions, I just know I'll never get to ask them all because they rush through stuff. Pffft.

ohcluttergotme · 04/01/2014 22:29

I had hot baths with previous 2 pregnancies and continue with this one.
Like bumblebees I take in a glass of cold water to sip.
I read to avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs and jacuzzi's as increase core body temperature too much.
Sure the occasional hot bath is ok.

Redcliff · 04/01/2014 22:33

Thanks guy - will look out for a thermometer for the bath to reassure my self. It's interesting about other counties - one of the girls at work was asking me what I had to avoid food wise and I was explaining that different countries have different advice and she was really confused.

Good to read that there is some more movement - I have had a couple of flutterings today and it is all very reassuring. I didn't feel anything till about 22 weeks last time.

ohcluttergotme · 05/01/2014 08:19

Morning lovely mums to be Smile
I'm normally dreading starting back at work after all the Christmas/New Year festivities but this time I'm ok as just want to get to May and ML as quick as possible.
Each shift at work is one to check off.
Got my midwife appointment on Tuesday so hoping she'll listen for babies heartbeat. Feel in limbo just now as not feeling sick, just getting fatter and sometimes worry everything is doing as it should in there.
Then got 20 week scan at end of jan so looking forward to January for once! Smile

wispaxmas · 05/01/2014 09:21

Great outlook on January, clutter! I'm in the opposite work situation. I've been working flat out all week after getting back to e uk. Working again today, but then off for the rest of the month Blush I'm looking forward to tomorrow so much, as I'll finally have a chance to get to bluewater to exchange a couple double gifts we got for Christmas. And then sleep. Every day.

I know on Facebook I've seen one person already have the sex scan, mine is a week Tuesday, but I thought for sure we had some coming up this week, don't we?

Sussex31 · 05/01/2014 09:45

I had a private sex scan at 16+3 yesterday :) We saw a healthy and very active baby girl in there sucking her fingers!

Jessiebaba · 05/01/2014 09:51

Awww congratulations Sussex A girl! Smile Is this your first?

I'm having a private gender scan but not until 1st Feb... Can't wait to find out!

ohcluttergotme · 05/01/2014 09:58

That sounds a great way to beat the January Blues Wispa, just don't work for the month!
Great News Sussex, a gorgeous little girl, how exciting!

I wonder if I could join the Facebook Page. I was added then thought it would out me before I told people so I left and now the link won't work.

GillyBillyWilly · 05/01/2014 10:18

Congrats Sussex! Smile
We aren't going to find out but when I hear about people finding out I kind of want to as well! Ahhhh!

BEEwitched · 05/01/2014 10:20

I don't have mine until the 21st of January, my 20 week scan is tomorrow, though, and the thought makes me want to vom.

Does anyone know whether I need to take a urine sample? They didn't really tell my what will happen or what to do, just that I'll see a midwife after the scan.

Sussex31 · 05/01/2014 10:24

Yes, she will be our first :) We decided to find out because we both are too excited to wait.

SleepyNess · 05/01/2014 12:08

Hi all. Another migraine here. I'm losing my will to live... :(

CleverOl10 · 05/01/2014 12:12

Sleepy, you have my sympathy. I had a migraine over night but its 'calmed' to just headache now, still not fun and I'm still in bed. Having a slight nervous breakdown over how I'm going to cope with work tomorrow as haven't managed a full day up and with it in over a week. Need to go start planning lessons in a bit but head too sore. Desperately in need of a lottery win!

wispaxmas · 05/01/2014 12:15

BEE, I don't need to take a urine sample for mine. Just says to show up at x place at y time with a moderately full bladder. I suppose if they need a sample, the moderately full bladder will make that an easy job for after the scan Wink

summerbaby2014 · 05/01/2014 12:51

Sorry to hear about all the migraines :( have you tried those cooling gel pads? You put them in the fridge first and they provide some temporary relief. I had terrible migraines before getting pregnant but somehow I've escaped them since.

DH is out on his run (marathon training) and I'm painting the ceiling in the living room. Anyone else got a list as long as their arm of things to do before the baby arrives.? We haven't even started on baby stuff yet!

Vickyvix · 05/01/2014 13:23

Ah lovely news sussex, you must be so happy to find out you're expecting a girl. We find out at the beginning of Feb, can't wait.

Sorry to hear you're suffering with a migraine sleepy hope it has eased since this morning.

I need to take our Christmas decorations down today, keep on putting it off but quite looking forward to getting everything looking nice and tidy and normal again.
