Vicky I have the Quinny Buzz 4 & on the whole I've really loved it. I'm tall & because it's Dutch it's higher than a lot & maxi cosi can go straight in and out of the car plus it can face either way. Oh and I had a Corsa with a small boot at the time so I was really restricted in prams that would fit. But - in 19 months I've had about 4 punctures which are very very irritating & it now squeaks a bit - but in fairness it was 2nd when I got it.

I'm considering doubles now - possibly icandy but I just don't know!!

MarlenaGru · 16/01/2014 08:18

redcliff I have found a few cvs for my boss and hope I will be asked to help interview but who knows. He is new so I don't know how he will deal with them. I hate the talk of maternity cover bizarrely. I am looking forward to being off but remember how frustrating it was last time when people treat you like you are stupid when you come back, or like you have somehow become incapable after 9 months off. Hoping this company being smaller will be better than my last one where there was so much office politics.

vicky I have a friend who had a buzz and she hated it. It was forever in the shop getting the wheels repaired and she had it from new. She also found it highly impractical as it was huge. She bought it to take it home for country walks etc except she never bothered trying to take it on a plane as it was so bulky and had a cheap pushchair from 6 months and then a Sola for her second baby. Obviously I haven't had one so no idea!

Vickyvix · 16/01/2014 09:03

Thanks bumble and marlena all info very helpful. The Quinny Buzz definitely seems to have very mixed reviews. My DH also really likes the M&P sola so I'm going to look at that in more detail as well.

Just done a new count, 71 working days left, that makes me feel better. I really don't like the way my work are referring to me as 'leaving' though, I am not leaving I am going on maternity leave! Argh....

Riblet · 16/01/2014 09:52

I don't know how those of you with other kids cope, you deserve a medal! Don't know how I'd manage with it all.

Re. dogs- I'm not a dog person at all so possibly biased but I agree with the others Bumble that you're perfectly within your rights to say something (tactfully as well by the sounds of it) when your home and child are involved. If that was the reaction then maybe they are embarrassed and you've touched a nerve?

Redcliffe- my boss asked me if if there was anyone I knew who might be interested in covering me but the couple of people I thought might be interested, weren't - not sure what it says about their opinion of my job but atm I'd be inclined to agree! They've now found someone (keeping it internal and this person will be just out of contract), but they need to get a move on as we need an overlap for training and I'm planning to go on mat leave at Easter (assuming nothing happens before). I know it's awful and I will seem totally uncommitted (erm Wink ) but I'm secretly hoping HR take ages and there's no time for overlap because, although she seems like a lovely girl, she has no real experience of what I do or of something else she'll be covering, and I really cannot be bothered going through all the training and nonsense that comes with it. Anyway, if I were you Redcliffe I'd want to be involved in the interviews if possible, after all, no-one knows you job like you do. In the end I got no say in mine but as said, I'm not really committed to it anyway.

Riblet · 16/01/2014 10:03

Vicky - I'm the opposite - work keep talking about 'when I go on leave' whereas I keep saying 'when I leave'! Definitely need to do the day countdown though!

Expecting twins - We had pretty much decided that if we got a pram (have been considering just trying carriers for the first few months then a 6m+ buggy) it would be the Obaby Zezu twin as even though it is massive, you get 2 convertible carrycot seats and is one of the few that have rear facing option. Did try out the Obaby Zoom the other day as is tandem but suitable for 2 newborns. Problem is that it's so long - even empty, trying to tip the front to get up a kerb is really difficult as the front is so far from the back wheels, so laden it must be impossible. After Bee put the link to the Easywalker yesterday I had a look at their Duo - it seems to be essentially the same as the Zezu but slimmer and more expensive, partly as needs separate carrycots and adaptors. Am keeping an eye on both on ebay at the moment though - if the Zezu we've seen near MILs stays at the price it's at I'm having it! Have you seen any you like?

Mitchell2 · 16/01/2014 10:22

Re maternity cover - as I am not taking much time off anyway, my boss decided that they can cope without me (to be fair my leave is at the quietest time in the year!). He is however based in the US and completely out of touch with reality of what happens in the UK sometimes...

My team are in a tizz as they don't think its possible, and I am manically trying to get organized so it all doesn't go tits up when I am off.

Biffle · 16/01/2014 10:40

I just have to say that my DP has just earned himself a medal!! He works away during the week and stays on base Mon - Fri so I am on my own with an 8 and 10 year old during the week. Yesterday I had a complete melt down and he drove home to spend the night with us and help Smile.

There have been so many times this pg when I would have dearly loved a glass of wine at the end of a particularly stressful week but instead I have to watch DP drink Envy Becks Blue or Alcohol Free wine just don't cut it I'm afraid.

MarlenaGru · 16/01/2014 10:51

Wow biffle that sounds hard with no support all week!
I am quite lucky in that DD is 5 as I know I couldn't have coped with a toddler and being pregnant. She still likes to push my buttons especially with homework! I am not very patient at the best of times Blush

carrie105 · 16/01/2014 11:08

Can I add to this morning's moan list?!! I've got my 20 week scan tomorrow and Ive woken up with a cold Sad
Anyone got any natural get well quick tips??

BEEwitched · 16/01/2014 11:08

Since we're talking maternity leave, can I ask a question about our HR maternity form? It asks whether I want to apply for additional leave and how long I plan to be off, and wants specific dates - now, I'll probably be off all year; since I do have the option to change my mind and tell them 8 weeks beforehand it would probably best just to put down the max and then amend it if necessary?

My GP gave me my MatB1 yesterday, so I want to get it all handed in before I lose it. Blush

LadyGoneGaga · 16/01/2014 11:23

I would put the max and then easier to say later you are coming back early than vice versa.

Vickyvix · 16/01/2014 11:27

Argh pregnancy hormones!!!! I just cried at work Blush

I had a really bad call with a client who was really rude and shouted at me like it was a child. I am usually pretty feisty and would just stand my ground but I had to tell him I was ending the call before I burst into tears.

Bet all my colleagues think I'm a nutter now Blush v v embarrassed

Biffle · 16/01/2014 11:28

marlena it certainly is a challenges, especially as one swims competitively and one dances competitively so their after school training is intense to say the least with one or both of them needing to be somewhere (completely different) every night. Still we always adapt and cope with whatever life throws at us and am sure that this poor little baby will be the most adaptable baby in the world (not sure it will appreciate the 5am swim training wake up though!!!) lol

mylittlel · 16/01/2014 11:30

carrie i have tried sugary sweets, not medicated; honey and lemon tea or gargle with salty water especially before bed, plus inhale steam to ease your congestion and drippy nose

carrie105 · 16/01/2014 11:47

thanks mylittlel, Ill try all those. Sod's law, my first cold all winter, it would be now wouldnt it!

Bumblebeesmum · 16/01/2014 11:48

Vicky don't worry your colleagues may think you're a nutter but they'll know it's pregnancy so you'll read more into it than them

I missed the link about zezi or whatever it was called I'll need to research that too! I sometimes think there is way too much choice with all this baby malarkey - it's stressful !

Jessiebaba · 16/01/2014 12:35

Yikes! Biffle that does sound like a crazy schedule! You must be very proud of your DC though Smile

Bumble as a dog owner, I totally agree with everything you said/did. Flexi-leads are my worst nightmare - if I see another dog walker coming towards me holding a flexi-lead, I do my best to avoid them! It's totally unacceptable for them to allow their dog to harrass other dogs (and children!) too. Not all people like dogs and not all dogs like other dogs - it's their responsibility to teach their dog to respect that. Like wispa does with Wispa, you only allow your dog to approach other people/dogs if you're sure the other person/dog is OK with it. Obviously sometimes it doesn't all go to plan but there's a way to deal with that i.e. apologise! Sorry for the rant but this type of irresponsible dog-ownership really gets my back up! Angry Anyway, I think you did exactly the right thing. As someone else said, I think you've possibly hit a nerve with your friend - hopefully she'll realise that you're trying to help Smile

Redcliff · 16/01/2014 12:44

Thanks for all the messages re cover - interesting that there are different approaches and Riblet - you really made me laugh. The more I think about it the more I hope my temp goes for it - she already covers for me when I am not there so wouldn't needs lots of training ect. I did mention it to my head of department today and although I said "we have lots of time" thinking about it we don't as we will need to find cover for who ever gets my job and what with advertising and so on it could all take a while.

Bezzabelle · 16/01/2014 14:08

Hi all, had 20 week scan this morning- all fine which was a relief after some very weird dreams last night and we are having another boy! Am very pleased as love the idea of ds having a little brother. Now have to sort through bags of baby clothes in the loft but barely have to buy anything new! Hope everyone ok.

mylittlel · 16/01/2014 14:26

MarlenaGru · 16/01/2014 14:43

Congrats bezzabelle, mrs Charlied and Wispa, glad all the scans have been positive, so are the boys outnumbering the girls at the mo?
